Well, sort of. Several of you have commented our yard looked like a park at times when you’ve seen pictures of my dolls outside.
A few days before my hubby had his knee surgery, he strapped on the brace he was given and gave our yard one last “trim” because he knew it would be more than a few weeks before he could get to it again. It took him most of the day as he had to do it in small increments, resting between jobs, and I’m pretty sure it had never looked better so I went outside and snapped some pictures.
I was thinking about what to write for my post for Thursday and decided to just show some pictures of his hard work.
We had a friend come over today…a friend whom we hadn’t seen in almost 30 years. (Rebecca was a baby when she saw her last.) She lives up by the Wisconsin border and doesn’t get down this way… We had a 3 hour long visit and it was nice. I’m not sure if we are caught up on “everything” but we might be close.
After she left, I had a bazillion things to do…
Feed the Old German Owls and water them, fill up the bird feeder, hook up the hose and water the tomato plants, the hibiscus, the Maple tree, the Gingko tree, my new Hydrangea bush I got for Mother’s day, the petunias, pull up and cut off the roots of the lettuce plants, make some dinner, take out the trash, and now it’s time to go close up the birds…and walk Reuben one last time (I just went out there in the dark and heard coyotes howling in our neighbors yard… so both Reuben and I hightailed it back in the house.) This list didn’t include all the things I had to do with my hubby, for my hubby and to my hubby! His knee is really swollen and he’s in a lot of pain. He really can’t do much for himself, so I had to help him with everything.
My day was pretty full even before Margene got here, so there was no time to even think about starting something. One of these days you’re going to be surprised to see a sewing or a doll post…but until then… I give you my yard…
This huge tree is what I see when I’m standing at my kitchen window doing dishes! The birds LOVE this tree!
Yes, my hubby stores the mower(s) on the back porch! :o( That’s my sewing room you see there with the “almost” flat roof!
I hope this was enough “green” for you! It really was pretty the day he did all this!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Your yard looks just beautiful, Jeanne. How is the hydrangea doing? At one time I think you were wondering if maybe it needed more shade or something.
I’m sure your day was very busy–the first few post-op days at home generally are, no matter what the surgery. I’ll be praying for George’s complete recovery–and for strength and good health for you while you care for him!
I’m so glad you got a chance for a visit with your friend. Isn’t that the best, to see friends you haven’t seen for many years?!
Ye, Jeanne, you certainly do have a beautiful park right there in your own backyard! It is just beautiful! George certainly does have a full time job just keeping the yard so pretty! The tomatoes are doing wonderfully in the raised beds! I can smell them already!
I can see your house isn’t just one rectangle, is it? I wonder if it has been added onto throughout the years, before you got to it, of course!
It is very green here too, and now more rain coming ! I always loved the color green, and think God must have too, since there is so much around us!
Prayers that George recovers soon, and gets back to what he loves doing best….and you too!
Dear Jeanne, you really do live in a lovely park. You and your husband do an amazing job maintaining it, with Reuben as supervisor of course (laugh).
I am glad that your husband is at home recuperating under your exquisite care .
It was wonderful that you could connect with your friend. I love when I get to speak with a friend from my childhood or college years. Great memories always come right back.
We are all still here, no matter what your blog post topic is. We will just move from the sofa to the picnic bench outside so fire up the grill. We have each brought a dish to share. Well, I brought a cake from Giant, as I am the non-cook. We will have a lovely meal together. Can someone pass the lemonade, please?
I love that, Dororthy! I think a picnic is a great idea.
At this point, I’d probably have to bring something purchased, too, as I still can’t stand for very long at a time.
I’d like some iced tea, please–just plain, lots of ice!
Paradise! So lush. All of that green is so pleasing to the eyes. Here in northern CA, we would have to water the turf or it would be brown in a couple of days. Not something most can afford either. The water that is. You are very lucky to have rain during the summer. We hit 96 yesterday, but will probably be 10 degrees cooler today and fog tomorrow.
Love seeing those wonderful newly planted trees. And those tomatoes must be the envy of the neighborhood. What a wonderful place you live.
I noticed the garage in the background. Wouldn’t that be a great place to store those mowers? 🙂 Because I also saw that wonderful old door to the sewing room. The porch would be such a lovely place for a couple of chairs and a small table or an old sewing machine base with a top to display some small shade plants. I picture tea and cookies there served on mismatched vintage china. 🙂
Does George have one of those ice machines for his knee? I know they are supposed to really help with the swelling. I hope the knee heals quickly as I’d love to see some photos of his birds doing their birdie things. They are quite remarkable.
Now Jeanne, it sounds like you are doing way too much right now and always. Take care of yourself too. How about some take out so you don’t have to cook? That would be first on my list. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing the green. Made my day.
“Green green, it’s green they say on the far side the hill.
Green green, I’m going away to where the grass is greener still!“ That place must be your yard, Jeanne!
I second that porch idea, Joy! I can see hanging planters full of flowers, or even pretty ferns! What a nice diversion that would be to take a break from sewing now and then, and have a glass of frosty cold lemonade in the summer !
Your yard looks so lovely and green. Things are growing like a weed here as well, now that summer has arrived in full force. We lived on an acre and a half when I was a teen and a loved the many trees in the backyard. My absolute favorite thing was the little walkway that went between the out out building and the house and led to the back patio and yard.. It had an iron gate and lily of the valley on either side. That’s my birth flower, so it was just gorgeous.
Glad that George is home safe and well, but I’m sure you are very busy now.
My goodness, I would definitely claim that back porch as a relaxing place with a wrought iron table and chair set and pitcher of lemonade or iced tea and petit fours. You could sit out there and do any hand sewing of the dresses with easy access if you use your sewing room door. I love outdoors and always find a way to do anything I can on the porch or open every window in the sunroom to let the fresh air in.
Oh yes, the park is so green…never too much green☺️ It’s just lovely! The Hydrangea looks nice and healthy too.
We have had a cool May and everything is very green here too. This week went from 60s to 90’s though. My poor pansies didn’t not take the heat or the wind very well…hope they recover for maybe another month..then they are ‘done’
Sorry George is having so much pain. Hope the swelling will go down soon…lots of ice is his friend. I know you can take all your chores and busy times in stride…knowing things should settle down soon. You are an amazing lady…just taking care of whatever needs to be done!
Hope the kids can help with the yard work for awhile🤗😉
What a beautiful yard and view in every direction. It is absolutely lovely and peaceful looking.
I picture all the girls from your blog to have tea out in the yard near the cupola!
I hope Simon is safe from the coyotes.
I hope George mends well and feels better as the days go on. He’s in safe hands though.
OH OH, I am so much in favor/agreement for Joy’s porch idea. Yes a tall frosty glass of lemonade and some beautiful ceramic pots with flowers, chairs and floral cushions and that would be a little heaven on earth.
Thankful that George’s surgery is behind him and that he is home. I pray for a quick recovery and for him to be back on both feet soon. As for you, please pace yourself, The caregiver has so much responsibility. I told myself, self if I do not take care of you, then I cannot care for my husband. God only gives us one day at a time, so live just for the day you are in.
Just had another wonderful thougtht with all of that private and beautiful yard and lovely nature around your home, I could see you in the very early morning sitting on that beautiful porch having coffee or tea and reading your Bible, getting your spiritual food to fuel you for the day. God says we have not because we ask not,. Time to pray as you listen to the birds sing.
Praying for both of you.
You have such a beautiful yard and gardens. Thanks so much for at long last and many years sharing the whole yard with us. We’ve seen bits and pieces but never the whole wonderful yard with all the trees and features. You are so fortunate to live in such a lovely place, and you return that luck by taking such good care of it.
However, about the back porch, and unless it was screened or glassed in, I would have to decline the invitation to sit out there with my lemonade unless, unlike anywhere else I’ve ever lived, there are no mosquitoes! While visiting family in WV it was a mystery why there were no mosquitoes in Morgantown and it was the only place I could sit out in the evening, or the daytime for that matter.
So glad you are safely home and taking such good care of your patient. You are very fortunate to have each other.
Your yard is so beautiful and serene looking. It looks so well groomed and peaceful. Our house is on a corner with one of the main roads into town on one side and a short street on another. The rest of our property, which includes David’s shop, sits in the middle of the block with houses surrounding it. There is no way to make it look “peaceful”. I wish. I tried finding locations for outdoor shots for my dolls but none of them worked. If I’m going to take outdoor pictures I’m going to have to pick a spot and specifically groom it for that, which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t get hot here so fast that gardening and hanging out outside is not enjoyable.
I’m sorry George is in a lot of pain. Hopefully that will end soon. But I’m so pleased you got to spend time with him at the hospital. Be sure to take care of yourself too. Everything but you and your hubby can probably wait till tomorrow.
I got a new phone and my SIM card was the wrong size so we went to an AT&T store in a small down west of us to get a new one – to avoid having to wait outside or in our car for admittance. We did have to sign in but got in pretty quickly. There is a restaurant we love in that town so we arrived at lunch time. They have menus but we usually eat their buffet but we figured that was a no-go at the moment. These people always find a way to make difficult things work. They’re amazing. They put plexiglass in front of the buffet and if you wanted to order from the buffet you had a list of the items and you circled what you wanted, gave it to the server and they brought it to you. The salt and pepper were in small plastic containers, which is sure easier than those paper packages. Rather than closing off tables, they took them out, which was great because sometimes they were actually too close. It was a very pleasurable day and we didn’t feel inconvenienced at all by the new way of things. Our Phase 3 starts around June 12 I think. Restaurants will be at 75% and I’m not sure what else happens, probably bars at 50%. Hopefully our pool will open. Our church is still shooting for June14 for opening but that could change.
