I was holding out on you…I have another doll from the Goodwill that “I” found. She is a cutie so I thought I’d share a few pictures of her today. We’ll get back to Kirsten and those clothes I was mentioning soon.
My hubby is having the 30 staples removed from his knee and I found myself coming and going getting ready for this trip again. So I didn’t get any pictures of the doll clothes laid out or tried on any dolls
I truly think I have a “thing” for brown eyed dolls…especially brown eyed brunettes. I saw her laying on that shelf, flipped her over and said, “Hey, I know who YOU are!”
She is an 18″ Madam Alexander vinyl doll and she was a bit of a wreck when I first saw her. Her hair was all over the place, but it wasn’t too tangled.
I used my wire doll wig brush and easily brushed any tangles out. Her hair is VERY soft to the touch and almost like a little kitty. I’m not sure how her hair was supposed to be styled, so I pulled it back on top and added a little braid. I have some smaller hair bands, but I have “no idea” where they are…somewhere in the tubs in my living room. I’ve also lost my reading glasses somewhere out there too!!!
I took her outside so you could see her true colors better. She has a very pretty face and seems to have been nicely taken care of…although she does have what looks like an ink mark on her right hand. I haven’t tried anything on it yet.
Today is just kind of like a preview…I haven’t even stripped her down to her birthday suit yet.
I plan on selling her soon if anyone is interested in her…perhaps for a granddaughter or maybe for YOU!!
I saw the name “Natalie” on the tag attached to her vest, but thought maybe that was the name of the outfit…
…but I checked out Ebay, typing in “Natalie” and discovered that is her name.
Here are 2 different auctions on Ebay with pictures you can check out too. I just noticed they are from the same seller but one listing has more pictures than the other.
Ebay Auction of 2nd Natalie doll
Well, I’ve got to get up early, so I have to call this quits for now.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a fantastic find! Natalie is certainly very cute!! And she had at least part of her original outfit, too! You could probably make her a skirt or something to go with the pieces you have.
Her hair turned out well under your hands! Some people just are so good with hair! (I am not one of them!!)
Thank you all for the prayers and concern for me. I had a CT scan today, in addition to the x-rays yesterday–in both cases, no fractures of any kind showed up! So, that’s good news. It’s probably, as Laura suggested once, just “a really bad bone bruise”, and those can take some weeks to heal.
Ron’s elbow is doing fine; he did complain of the bandage feeling “tight” and indeed it had become so on his upper arm, so tonight I took the wrap off completely, and just covered the incision wiht a fresh gauze pad, which I taped in place. It can come off tomorrow, anyway, unless he wants it covered to prevent the stitches from snagging.
He found our our dryer’s problem–the belt broke. This dryer is original to our house (1968–yes, it’s 52 years old!!), but he found he has another belt amongst the parts scavenged off discarded appliances years ago, where he used to work. So, tomorrow he’s going to try to get that done. He’s 87, and getting weak, so it’s a challenge, but he is happiest when he can tinker, so I’ll let him. If that doesn’t work, we can always get a new dryer–I don’t think we can complain after 52 years of service!! (He also kept our original furnace running until a few years ago, when we decided to replace it Before it died. His occupation was customer service for the natural gas company, and he was very good at what he did!)
What a cute little doll, with such a sweet face, Jeanne! Her brown eyes and hair really do compliment each other! I can’t imagine her with blue eyes at all!
She certainly does have a good head of hair! It really looks thick, and would probably give those who are hair challenged a good time! She looks to be a modern girl, especially with her outfit.
I was thinking she would be a cute little sister to AG Samantha, it then I read she is also 18 inches tall! Well, maybe a sister or cousin closer to Samantha’s age!
Glad to hear you have no broken bones, Charlotte! You certainly have had luck With your appliances lasting a good long while.
I just had to jump up and chase a squirrel who was digging outl some flowers I had in a planter! So far, they have managed to dig up and kill about 12 of my annuals that I planted !l. This seems to happen every year, and then last year the deer got to my lilies, so we had few flowers. I can’t believe you don’t have deer, Jeanne!
Another fun find at Goodwill. Natalie will be lovely when you’re finished.
The thrift stores around here are just starting to open up again and are very picky about what they will take. Seems like most everyone with time on their hands, bundled stuff to drop off when things opened up. Because there is so much out there, Goodwill is making those donating do the work. Everything must be separated, like clothing, household, etc. and placed in the proper bin. Not sure how the other places are handling it. My favorite Hospice thrift store has become a camp ground for homeless tents. Not sure if they will even open up again since they are run by all volunteers most of whom are in the scary age bracket for virus contraction.
So excited as my new Dumpling Meadow Sylvia Scarlet arrived yesterday. Very fast plane flight from Kentucky to CA. She’s very sweet.
Hope George’s staple removal goes well and you have time to stop for lunch somewhere. Drive safe.
Dear Jeanne, what a wonderful find. As you know, I am partial to Alexanders. The Alexander Doll Club convention was supposed to be later this month but, of course, was moved to next year.
I have one 18 inch Alexander with a similar face. My doll is simply called “Mixed Prints.” I just did a quick Google search to see if I could learn more about Natalie. It seems that she was originally sold by Avon. There was also a Gracie with blond hair and an Erica who is African American in the series. It seems like you have rescued a real gem.
I want to wish you a happy World Doll Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow. I know that there won’t be any actual celebrations but we can certainly hug all of our dolls.
Thanks for the reminder about World Doll Day. I belong to the Madam Alexander Doll Club. Do you ever go to the Convention?
Dear Barbara, hello. Yes, I do attend and generally offer a seminar. I was looking forward to the one this year but will have to be content to wait until next year.
I am glad you are a member. That is something else we have in common. Now if I can just get you to come to PA (laugh). The convention was here a few years back but that was before I was a member of the club (or any doll club for that matter) so I didn’t know about it.
My 18″ doll is a MA named Gracie. She has a similar face and has blonde hair and blue eyes. One thing I like about the MA 18″ dolls is that their upper body is not cloth, so when you make clothes with narrow straps or strapless, there is no fabric showing. You didn’t mention that about your doll but I’m assuming they were all the same. My “rescue” dolls have the cloth body from neck to legs and it shows with summer clothes. They said it doesn’t bother them because they’re sure the clothes get all the attention anyway.
Charlotte, I’m so glad you have nothing broken. Bone bruises are the worst. When my daughter was little I woke up in the night to take care of her and my bedroom door was not all the way open. I ran into the edge of the door and it hit me above my right eye. It took forever for the pain to go away. It was there long after the black and blue was gone. My mother had a washer and dryer set she bought back in 1965 that she used for years, then she moved to an apartment and gave it to my cousin and she used it for years. My mother moved back into a house again and my cousin gave it back to her and my mother used it for a few years more. I think all told they were used about 30 years. In 40 years I’ve had five washer and dryer sets. They’d go for awhile without needing repair and then when they did, it was always something that couldn’t be fixed.
Jeanne, it sounds like George is doing better every day. I’m glad both of you are doing better. Can’t wait to see all the clothes you got. I love to get things that are surprise bundles. Opening them is always a fun adventure. We have a Goodwill in my town but I have never been except to drop things off. My stepson gets his work clothes there. I keep saying I’m going to go because you always find such marvelous things there, but then I never seem to get around to it. I’m gathering things to take there now that they are open for donations again so maybe instead of just dropping things off I’ll stay awhile and look around.
Dear Barbara, your Gracie is probably the sister Avon doll to Natalie. You can do a Google search and see if you like.
I have to agree that brown hair and brown eyes look awfully cute together as Natalie proves and my two daughters and 7 granddaughters who all have brown hair will agree. Of course now some are old enough to make their hair any color they like :0)
Your Goodwill stores are amazing…always something fun pops out of those stores! We have one here where you buy things by the pound….it is a big warehouse and there are big carts on wheels that they line up in rows…and every hour or so they ring a bell and tell you what aisle will be replaced..then you have to step back while that aisle’s bins are rolled away and new ones come out. It is literally a zoo…everyone trying to see what is on the new carts. The day we first stopped by we must have looked uncomfortable because a lady came up to us and told us how it all worked. She said you need to wear leather gloves because things are dumped in the bins and glasses and dishes get broken. The more you buy the cheaper it gets by the pound. Quite the sales tactic. The grandkids loved going there!
Jeanne, I have a dozen or so MAs, but none as lovely as brown-eyed Natalie! What a find! Good luck to George on his staple removal, and glad you are feeling up to entertaining us! Charlotte, glad you don’t have any fractures. I have a broken toe that is taking forEVER to heal.
Ladies, check with your local Goodwills to make sure you visit on discount days. Around here, On Mondays, teachers and students get 25% off, and on Tuesdays, anyone over 55 gets 25% off! Since I am both, I try to only go on those days—it can add up to quite the discount! Happy shopping!
