It’s someone else’s turn today…

Today it’s going to be “Questions and Comments by YOU!!!”

I am so tired…I can hardly think straight… sorry, too many chores and things to do when I got home… I had to go back to get my hubby’s medicines…(the pharmacist was at dinner when we stopped by on our way home), unload the car, walk Reuben before midnight, close up the bird’s doors and windows, wash out my hubby’s overnight drain bag, get his medicine times all figured out, answer about 15 emails, and more I won’t bore you with…

Anyway, I just can’t put anything together tonight…so hopefully someone can think of something to get a little chatter going.

I hate to leave you without anything fun to look at, so here are 2 pictures Rebecca sent me while we were gone…

Simon is still around…and I think this picture of him looking out his “bedroom window” is so cute….

I think you know this guy…Reuben says, “Hi!”

I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I hope by now you are enjoying a nice, long, restful sleep!! Don’t worry–I’m sure we can entertain each other while you are sleeping!! I’m glad to hear George is doing well.

That’s a wonderful picture of Simon; might make the nice front of a greeting card, or at least a note card.

It was good to see a picture of Reuben, too–he is sure one adorable pup!!

Let’s see, what question can we start with? How about this:

What childhood dream did you have that actually was fulfilled, at least in some way?

When I was a child, in the mid-50s, we had a missionary to what is now Tanzania staying at our home (my dad was a pastor). He talked to our Vacation Bible School kids, as I recall, and there was something about his stories of missionary work in Africa that just caught my imagination. I decided I wanted to be a missionary to Africa when I grew up! (I think I was about 9 at the time.)

In 1999, the church we attended was getting together a short-term mission trip–to Africa! In this case, Swaziland. I told my husband, I have to at least go to the informational meeting and see what this is about. He wasn’t interested in going to Africa, but he did go to the meeting with me. There was a long questionnaire to fill out as to what skills you possessed–everything from the most basic “paint a wall” to very highly technical things to welding to medical/dental….One thing on the list was “Library skills”. My minor was Library Science! So, yes, I went–I headed up the part of the team that helped to set up a subject file for the home school library in the Trans World Radio headquarters in Manzini, Swaziland. All in all, almost three dozen of us went, and the tasks accomplished (the fulltime missionaries there had given our leader a “wish list”) ranged from tearing apart the oldest transmitter to make room for a new one to welding, painting, technical computer skills, etc. There were medical and dental teams, too. We were in Swaziland a full week, and accomplished a lot for the missionaries! Afterwards, we had a weekend debriefing at the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, then spent a week touring the “Garden Route”, eventually arriving in Capetown. We were gone a total of 2-1/2 weeks, and I truly loved every minute of it!! (And, yes, I managed to find both dolls and fabric while I was there!)

    Okay, your turn!!

  2. Jeanne, I’m so happy everything is now over for you, as to the surgery. Just rest today and in the coming days. We do understand!

Such cute pictures of Simon and Reuben! I think they are BOTH glad you are back home!!

Charlotte, who knew? Africa, wow! Nothing, nothing like that for me, for sure! The only thing I can think of right now at this early hour, is that I remember going downtown in St. Louis, to visit Famous-Barr, a large department store, sometime before Christmas with my mother, and we wanted to look at dolls that I might want to have Santa bring me for Christmas. Well, back then, the dolls were behind glass, on shelves, very nicely displayed. My eyes caught a doll up on the top shelf, the very first one. I can still remember her to this day! She was dressed in a cute little pleated skirt, sweater, and wore braids! Of course, I had no idea of price, Santa was bringing her, remember? Well, my mother kept having the saleswoman show me different dolls, but no, nothing compared to that little doll with braids and a trunk with a collection of clothes! I found out much later, she cost $75.00, which was pretty expensive in 1946! Of course, I didn’t get her for Christmas that year, but got a beautiful Nancy Ann bride doll.

Fast forward to 2007. By that time I had two granddaughters and Christmas was coming! American Girl dolls were big, and they each wanted one! So Kit and Samantha came here to be given as Christmas gifts. Michael, my husband, thought I should get one for me so I could play with them! He sure didn’t know what he was getting into at that time, but I decided to get my cute doll with braids….Molly!

Oh, my, Linda, I’ll bet that doll you wanted in 1946 was a Madame Alexander, for that price! But I’m glad you finally got a cute doll with braids! I have Molly, too–she was my first American Girl (I have 5), and I’ve had more fun sewing for her over the years!

  3. So, it sounds like George wasn’t released from the hospital until late and then a long drive home on top of that. Was it dark during your drive? I hate to drive at night. I’m sure Reuben was happy to see you both. Hopefully you got some sleep, although, not so sure about George. How long is his expected recovery from the surgery?
What a great photo Rebecca sent. I think a small one framed would be such a cute accent in any room. And speaking of rooms, did that flooring ever show up? I think I’d cancel the order and get the flooring to match the rest of the house and have it ready to start on once George is feeling better. Who cares about cost anyway. 🙂 He can sit and watch you lay the floor and paint the kitchen cabinets. 🙂 🙂 Joking of course.
Around here, the dishwasher has stopped leaking after my fix, but a drip was discovered of which the source has been located. The soap dispenser in the door. Apparently, after consulting Mr./Mrs. Google, the majority of dishwasher leaks occur there. It is an easy fix to install a new dispenser, but I will have to see if ordering a new one is worth it or not. Since we have to install new flooring anyway, it might be better to go ahead and get a new model since we would have to pull out the old one to do so. Always something.
It was 94 yesterday and today will also be hot. Can’t wait until the cool off. All I could do outside was water. No blackberry/ivy pulling in that heat.
Hope George is doing well today and you too.

  4. Hope you got some good sleep..but maybe that won’t happen for awhile.🤪 Glad you got to in the hospital room with George. Those rules changed just in time. !
Reuben is so photogenic. He looks so comfy in his little bed.
The Simon picture is adorable…way to go Rebecca! Whether or not you keep him that picture needs to get enlarged and framed. He is a cute little stinker!
The only dream I can remember as a child was one I had over and over…there was a railroad track a block or so away from the house and it was high and there was a big bridge over a busy street. The bridge was made of huge long black logs and was 40 ft high…for some reason our family all loaded In our car were qdriving on the tracks and fell off onto the street. Nothing after that…no one hurt…just that part of the dream..over and over. And luckily nothing like it ever happened.

  5. I hope that your husband is feeling better today and recovery goes quickly and smoothly.

Not so much a childhood dream but a teenager dream. I love music and always knew I wanted to be a DJ for a radio station. This was back then when they had some amazing DJ’s that talked about the albums, the artist or band. Well my very proper mother was having no part of that. She very nicely, while pointed her finger at me and a extra long cigarette in her mouth that “no you will not be a DJ once you graduate as that is a profession for men.” End of conversation. I also was very interested in NASCAR and wanted to be a driver. No! That is for men. Fast forward to 2005 and though neither of those dreams came true I decided to manager and promote bands. I love it and it was a fantastic experience. I can hear my mother from her grave screaming softly….”No!”

  6. I don’t mind what you write. I just look forward to your posts. You certainly have had a lot to contend with lately!
