Trees and dolls in pajamas and more…

My weekend was packed with a menagerie of different things going on… and I never got Word Press called, nor Sarah to ask her what might be wrong. So I’ve tried to figure out a few things on my own… Not a total success, but I figured out how to retrieve a few pictures and wanted to share them.

Joy sent this picture of her grandkids doing a little chalk-work on the driveway as their teachers were passing by and waving to the kids…

Next up is a sample of what every nook and corner in my house looks like. We are going to start a make-ever in our daughter’s room and she is having to move everything out because we are redoing it from ceiling to floor! Today we will be ripping up her carpet…it’s been in there since we bought our house, 16 years ago…and no telling how long it was down before we moved in… It’s long over due of being “uninstalled!” I’ll keep you updated…

Jane sent me some pictures all the way from New Zealand of her Ginkgo tree…She said this was just a few pictures of the leaves and what the Ginkgo tree looks like. Right now in New Zealand they are having their Autumn shedding happening due to drought. She said the Ginkgo is slightly dehydrated, and only has the vague beginnings of yellowing. I had to laugh when she said they plant a few trees to pretend they get seasonal change, but mostly it’s green, green and more green all winter.

Joy also just finished a Sew-Along with Lori Gould and made this adorable pair of Pajamas for her Gigi, My Meadow doll… cute, aren’t they? She also made the “Peeps” you see in the basket!

Well, I’m sorry, but that’s going to have to be it for today…this is taking WAY too long to do my pictures this way… I’ll keep working on things or see if Rebecca will give me a 10 minute break today and call Word Press…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Some interesting and fun pictures today, Jeanne!

Joy, I’m sure your grandkids’ teachers appreciated the chalk work they did. I always thought it would be fun to use that sidewalk chalk sometime, but it didn’t come out until my son was too old for it (he’s 45 now), and of course concrete would just eat up a stick of regular chalk (used mainly for hopscotch and similar games).

My goodness, every corner of your home must be filled with Rebecca’s stuff now!! I hope there’s room for her to get in/out of bed!! And get to her clothes and things in the morning!!

I enjoyed seeing the pictures of the Gingko trees/leaves. I can understand about planting some trees just to get some fall color–we have to do the same thing in the Seattle area, as our color changes are not very vibrant, for the most part, unless you go up into the mountains–and anyone who knows me well, knows I do not “DO” mountains!! Ugh! (I drove to/from Leavenworth once–going up wasn’t so bad, but I thought I’d pass out before I got back down the mountain!! Way too high up and scary for me! White knuckles the entire trip!) Anyway, I’m thankful that there are some of those more brilliantly colored trees planted around our library, about a half mile from us, so I can go and get my “color fix” any fall day I wish!

Joy, I love Gigi’s new pjs, and the little felt Peeps are adorable!!!

We had a quiet Palm Sunday, mostly I read and worked on some more masks. Hope you all had a good day, too.

  2. How fun to see our grand kids. We do miss them so. They drew the message in the street in front of their house for their teachers to see as they car paraded by honking their horns and waving to students as they drove through the neighborhood. So nice of their teachers. The kids are doing the rest of the year online, but it was a thrill to see their teachers again even if it was from a distance.
I’ve always wanted a Ginkgo. There is a street lined with them in the Victorian home part of town here in northern CA. Always enjoy seeing the circles of yellow leaves on the ground in the fall.
Working on some masks. Found some old west theme fabric scraps and pieced together a mask for other person. I think he’ll like the bandito look. Have to add some humor somewhere. For anyone who doesn’t sew, I just watched a no sew video using a bandanna that was posted by Sissy. https://www.google.com/search?q=no+sew+face+mask+with+rubber+bands&rlz=1C1SQJL_enUS888US888&oq=no+sew+&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5j69i60j69i61.157759j1j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Not sure if this link will work, but if not, just Google no sew mask with rubber bands.
Looks like a sunny day. Definitely need to do more yard work.
Can’t wait to see Rebecca’s room make over. Hope you are taking lots of photos.

Dear Jeanne, thanks for posting the photos. It is always fun to see what folks are up to.

I am looking forward to seeing Rebecca’s finished room.

    1. Hi Dorothy, I hope you’re enjoying your Jane Austin watching marathon. I don’t know if you subscribe or subscribed in the past, but since I have some extra time, I am going through my old issues. I have a complete collection from the very first in 1987 to the most current. My mom thinks it’s nuts to keep them all. I find it so beautiful and relaxing. The point is, I was pulling out the April issues to enjoy and the first one is from 1990 and featured an article on Jane Austin. The old April issues always featured England, now England is the September one. I think last September had the jane Austin festival. I bet that would be fun to attend.

Dear Laura, alas, I have side tracked myself and have not yet begun my JA marathon.

To which magazine are you referring? I don’t think I have seen a JA magazine.

I agree with you. I would keep the magazines. I would want to re-visit them from time to time.

And yes, I would love to go to a Jane Austen festival. I really want to visit Bath!

Maybe we can send our dolls there on an imaginary vacation.

  4. Joy’s grandkids must have made their teachers feel very appreciated. Great job on the PJ’s and the Peeps are very cute.
Jane’s ginkgo tree is very nice and the autumn leaves are pretty.
Looking forward to seeing Rebecca’s room transformation.

    1. Thank you on the peeps and pjs. Oh, and grands too. 🙂 I saw a very sweet dress made from the same pattern, although I have a couple of other projects already.

  5. I’ve been away from the blog for a week, but I have been reading the posts and comments and there were a lot. I just didn’t comment. It was a rough week indeed. A little over a week ago hubby started feeling poorly. Then last Tuesday he said he was having trouble breathing so I took him to the doctor. He had viral pneumonia. The doctor in Sealy sent us to Bellville to have the COVID test done and then it was decided to send him to the hospital in Katy as a precautionary measure since COVID can escalate quickly. I waited until 10 p.m. that night and still the ambulance hadn’t come to transport him. The nurse said because I was masked, I could go in and talk to him a few minutes so that I could go home. I hadn’t had anything to eat or drink since noon that day. They did another test in Katy but none of them were the quick test so it would be two or three days before we got the results. The doctor in Bellville told me it was strange but it looked like he was fighting the disease himself because it was actually diminishing by the time he saw it. When David called me the next morning he said the doctor was amazed at his progress and, aside from the medication they gave him, no further treatment was deemed necessary. When he called me the next day he said the doctor was over the moon with his numbers and he would most likely be releasing him the next day. They just wanted to make sure there were no more fever spikes. After a week of not sleeping well and not eating much, it was a blessing to hear he was doing so well. And his first test was in and the results were negative. That meant seven days of quarantine or, if the second test was negative, no quarantine. The second was negative also. Evidently there is a pneumonia out there right now that looks like COVID but is not, but you don’t know until you’re tested. Aside from needing to build up his strength, David is doing well and I’m trying to get back to normal, whatever that is these days.

Joy, what a sweet thing for your grandkids to do for their teachers and how wonderful that the teachers would do a car parade for the children. My grandkids are handling things amazingly well but they are 8 and 9, so, unlike high schoolers, they haven’t lost a lot. They do their lessons in the morning through a program called K-12. It was set up for home schoolers as part of public education. I’m not sure how other places are doing it but I talked to my sister the other day and her granddaughters have different programs they are following. One of their mothers is a college professor who is not working right now so she is teaching her daughter. I’m just not sure how they are going to figure things out for next school year. In addition, my grandkids will be going to a Harmony School for the first time. Wouldn’t want to have to sort all this out.

Jeanne, while I can’t remember all I’ve read and seen over the past week, I can tell you I love what you and George did to the fountain. It really looks nice. Also the doll hats are cuter than cute. Looks to me like you have making them down to a science. And I can’t wait to see the progress on Rebecca’s room. As for “Fall” colors, I think it’s hopeless around here. If we get a cold snap in late fall we might get some color, but our oaks are mostly Live Oaks and they don’t change color.

Charlotte, you need to go up Mt. Evans in Colorado. I think its 14,000 ft. My daughter and son-in-law took us up and I felt like I absolutely could not breathe. And I never could have driven it but my daughter had no trouble. Hubby doesn’t either. I just keep my eyes closed most of the time.

I’m going to start making some family masks today. I haven’t decided what method I’m going to use though. My friend sent me a video of one done with a kerchief and pony tail holders. Pretty easy but I want to make some cute ones of my grandkids and some nice ones for the rest of the family and I don’t see them wanting to mess with folding and refolding. No problem finding the fabric for sure.

    1. Dear Barbara, Praise God that your hubby is on the mend. I pray he continues to be better each day. The new normal is difficult, I agree. I haven’t been anywhere other than the yard since March 16th when I went to Kroger.

      1. Thanks so much Dorothy. I just have to make sure he doesn’t overdo it. He hates sitting around.

    2. Seems odd to say, thank goodness it was only pneumonia, but then these are the times. Hope he recovers quickly. So scary. And please remember to take care of yourself too. So much stress.

      1. Got the stress under control. I got on Happily Ever After today and bought a Boneka doll named Charlotte. She is too cute. Gotta love stress. Another good reason to buy a doll.

    3. Charlotte Trayer

Barbara, so thankful your husband is doing so much better, and it was “just” pneumonia!!

Uh, I think I’ll pass on Mt. Evans. I’ve gone thru MacDonald Pass (“only” 6300 feet high) in Montana a couple of times (once as a teenager, once with my husband, and no I was Not driving!) and I about had the screaming meemies that second time, before we got thru it I sat with my head down, trying to read a book in my lap. It was not a happy time for me, to put it mildly. As we drove thru it, I realized, this is why I hate mountains! lol (That, and there’s no horizon if there are mountains in the distance, and I am a midwest girl, and like my horizon!!)

I don’t like getting up on ladders, either! 😉

  6. I got interrupted for lunch and forgot to tell Joy how cute Gigi’s pjs are. And the peeps look good enough to eat!
