PLEASE NOTE: The blue and pink Easter dresses, shown at the right side bar, are ending this evening on Ebay. Please click on the pictures or click HERE and HERE to see them…and bid if you like! :o)
I struggled with what title to call today’s post. Since Kenny Rogers just died, I debated about calling this “I know when it’s time to fold…” and almost picked, “I was wrong; Joy was right.”
Anyone know what happened since we last met?
You’ll see in a minute…
I got comments from Joy saying she just didn’t see the green in the coat fabric and that it looked more tan to her. Well, for as long as I’ve had that pretty corduroy, I’ve always considered those little flecks in the coral and pink print, a pale lime or even apple green…
So this morning, I was searching for the fabric in my cabinet to make the hat and when I pulled it out, I opened it up in bright light and laid a piece of the pink and green grosgrain ribbon on top…”sure, it’s green…” and then it happened…my eye caught the edge of the selvage and I saw it…those little dots that show all the colors used to make the fabric…
It WAS beige or tan or khaki…so I ate crow and realized Joy was right. It wasn’t green after all…I “personally” think the green is a complimentary color and it “could” have worked, but I discovered something else wrong last night…one of the pleats was off by about 1/4 of an inch in the front and it threw everything else off.
Not only the pleats going around, but there was no way I was going to get this back to work…it was pretty messed up looking, so I had to take it all apart…
I guess by now you’re realizing I must have done something drastic…yes, I did!
So I took care with getting the pleats straight and perfectly even this time.
So now it looks like this… My pictures are a bit drab right now. I didn’t do any editing on the colors as I was trying to get this post finished at a decent hour! HA! Anyway, it’s brighter than my pictures show…I’ll try to get it right for the next pictures.
I had one little piece of cluny lace in the exact same color (Joy will be thrilled!) :o) but it wasn’t long enough to go around the whole waist, so I had to stop it and cover the ends with a tie that can cinch up the dress to fit your doll perfectly!
Here it is with the coat and hat I decided on…
So there you have it, a totally revamped dress to go with a coat that didn’t sell year, but hopefully will this time!!
Oh and a few ladies asked about the pattern… here it is..
Hope you like it!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What an improvement, Jeanne! Not that the first one was bad, but I do like the newer dress better with the coat! It makes a nice set, and I love the new waist flower arrangement better than the bow. Yes, you certainly are a perfectionist! I think if it was me, I would have just put the whole thing away for another time to finish!
I never was a Kenny Rogers fan, in fact, I am not a country music fan either! But it is sad to see so many of the people we grew up listening to pass away.
We are stuck inside now in St. Louis, but I have plenty to do, and hopefully, we can get out in the yard soon! In spite of the many things now starting to bloom, we had the prettiest snowfall yesterday for a couple of hours or so. I’m more than ready for spring!
Hi Linda,
I’m glad to have your approval on the newest look for the dress Molly’s wearing. When I saw that backside of the dress, I TOO was almost ready to shove this to the back burner and work on something else.
I’ve been doing a few things each day too… today I cleaned out my spice and tea cabinet. Long over due…
We didn’t have snowfall yesterday, but we sure had cold weather… It was sunny today and a bit better temp wise.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Maybe it’s my monitor, but that dot looked more like a pale olive green to me than a tan. I guess “khaki” (as a color) does have a greenish tone, though.
I do know exactly what you mean, Jeanne, and I would have done the exact same thing–take the dress apart and redo the pleats, I mean!! Bravo, for being a perfectionist! I like the new belt/sash to go with the dress, too, and it just ties the whole outfit together!! I think you have a winner here!!
HI Charlotte,
Oh no… now we have a new color in the mix… Olive green! Oh well, I just got it scheduled to go on Ebay and didn’t mention much except the main color of the coat. Forget the flecks in it.
I only wish I hadn’t cut off the ends of my fabric where the pleats were added on. I didn’t think I’d need that fabric at the back and I really could have used it after I decided the gathers would work better. Oh well.. we live and we learn.
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a difference a day makes, 24 hours. ๐ I really did not intend for all of the hullabaloo, but now the pink dress with it’s bright matching pink button ties in perfectly with the coat. And the matching tam is lovely. Guess I can put off that cataract surgery for awhile longer. ๐ I like the neutral cluny lace belt and flower accent too, and the lovely beige shoes are a perfect pair to hop down the bunny trail. I can just picture Mr. Bunny wearing his N95 mask and carrying a basket of eggs to deliver to all of the home bound kids everywhere. Probably should not have said that as the situation is so serious, but somehow I have to have a laugh.
How’s everyone doing? I needed some pale blue embroidery thread to match a dress I want to make. Lots of blues here, but of course, not the right one. So, with no stores anywhere nearby open that might carry floss, I folded and ordered some from Joann’s. Could only get a pack of which it appeared that one color might work. Shipping was $7.00 for light weight floss. Oh well, these are desperate times. We’ll see how long it takes to receive it. Hope everyone is well and staying home.
HI Joy,
I almost said something about the cataracts conversation between you and me and Susette, but decided to lay it to rest. I’m glad you like how it looks now. Cindy sent me those shoes and they make the prettiest dressiest Easter shoes, don’t you think?
George wanted me to make a nurse set since all this has happened.. I thought I should pass..
I probably had the color of floss you needed… you should have asked.
Thanks Joy,
I’m staying in… but wondering if our post office will be open for me to mail the dresses that sell tonight… hmmmm.
Blessings, Jeanne
I know this is not a contest, but I think I’ve found the color among the greens in the color options for print on Facebook. If you click on the little dropper in the field next to the underlined U in the options for appearance of your print, there it is. Someone who has cataracts won’t distinguish this color very well. Funny that the sash matches the color of the little dots (leaves) in the pictures. I can just imagine someone who is in the military showing up in a uniform made of that color of “tan.” I wouldn’t normally get into this fray, but why not have some fun.
The outfit is darling, everything about it. Glad you find things in the pictures that don’t necessarily show up “in the flesh.” Hope it sells quickly for Easter.
Ok, gotta help the old lady. Where do I find the color options for print on facebook? I looked, but didn’t see anything like that.
And today when looking at the close up of the fabric next to the color samples, it looks green! Ha ha. I don’t think I will ever be able to use up the Army green stash of thread that belonged to my aunt who would sew rank emblems on my uncle’s uniforms a long time ago. ๐
Iโm guilty. The color chart is on the header of the blank email screen, not Facebook. Sorry! There are little icons you can click on to change the size of the print, color, etc. The little eyedropper icon has the color chart. The tiny pen poised above a pad of paper changes the background. So sorry about my misdirection.
HI Susette,
I’m sorry, but I didn’t know what in the world either you or Joy are discussing… a techy person I AM NOT! So I’ll just let you guys keep having fun on your own! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
The way the felt flowers peek out when the coat is open is so appealing. Canโt say Iโm a fan of the belt though…like the ribbon one better. Your pleats are just perfect now and that dress fits so well under the coat. What oh what is the hat going to look like?๐
I took part of a quilt top apart yesterday too. All the sashings didnโt match up very well and I saw some u tube videos on how to โquilt as you goโ which would solve the problem and I could quilt it myself….hummm that will take some thought.
Enjoy your Monday!
Hi Kathie,
If my tan trim had been longer, I wouldn’t have had to use the tie belt in the back… but because my trim stopped about 2″ from the end of each edge, I had to do something. maybe I should have just made a tab with snaps at the end instead of trying it in a knot…
You’ll have to tell me about the quilting as you go… but I “think” I know how it’s done… by sewing the top pieces to the bottom as you go along? You have your whole bottom piece, or the backing, as some call it. Then you put the batting down and you start in the middle and place your first piece… the next piece is stitched over the edge of the first one. You just keep stitching on pieces covering the piece before. It’s kind of like some little blocks I made that way… let me know if I’m right…
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Lap quilting was “invented” by a lady named Georgia Bonesteel, who used to have a TV show, Lap Quilting with Georgia Bonesteel, for many years. She is semi-retired now and in her 80s, but still has a web site, and I would imagine that some of her books are still available.
To me the dot looks sort of khaki but the color in the fabric pattern still looks green. But I do love your changes. Now the belt really ties in with the coat and definitely looks like an outfit.
I finished the cutest dress for my Corolle Les Cheries, Chloe. She used to live with you, Jeanne, and she asks me often how you are doing. The pattern was by Les Cheries de Vaniline. It’s all in French and that was fun because things did not directly translate, but I’ve sewn enough to be able to figure out things even if I could not read them. I will be doing a photo shoot around Easter so you can see it then. Picking fabric for this pattern was great fun. Now I want to make more. The pattern also fits Little Darlings and Minouche dolls. I believe Joy may have a Sylvia Natterer Minouche doll. If you do Joy, this pattern looks adorable on her. Those dolls are pure attitude and so cute.
Got some house cleaning to do this morning and then I plan on starting a couple new Easter dresses this afternoon. Betsy and Taylor Jane are up next. Their dresses are alike in fabric but Betsy chose the warm pink and Taylor Jane chose the blue. Simple dresses but with the fabric and sashes they should turn out really cute.
Vaniline makes lovely things and has wonderful patterns. Can’t wait to see your dress. And yes, I do have some Minouche and other Natterer dolls as well as some Little Darlings. The dollies keep telling me to add on a room just for them. ๐
Joy, I made the sleeveless dress with the scalloped overskirt. I also have the blouse and wrap skirt pattern too. Can’t wait to do that one.
HI Barbara,
Congrats to you on getting some sewing done. I didn’t get much sewing done today, but I did get my spice cabinet cleaned out and organized! :o) Does that count?
Tell Chloe I’m just fine and so happy she’s in a good home with a mommy that sews for her!
I’ve got a bazillion patterns but I found myself looking at them a few days ago… just what I need… more!
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Well since this isnโt about a pink fabric with hints of green, maybe Iโll have to do something pink and green. It is still my favorite color combo. The outfit is so pretty even if the green turned into tan. Are you going to list it all together as one set? I should think it will sell easily that way. ๐ธ๐๐ธ
Hi Julia,
If the back hadn’t been such a hot mess, I probably would have just straightened up the pleats and not worried about the green/tan color… but it’s done now and even listed on Ebay…together… a 2 for 1 listing! Let’s hope it sells this time.
I still love green and pink together…and I also love pink and brown together too, but don’t think I’ve ever done pink and tan… this was a first. Oh well…
Thanks Julia,
Blessings, Jeanne
I also love the little flowers showing when the coat is open. Colors can be tricky and I guess that’s why the selvage is there to verify the colors used. I thought the dress you made for Samantha was lovely, but the coat really does seem to go for a later era IMO. I think you have a winning combination now.
I ran to the store this morning for a few last items before tonight. We will still be allowed to go to the store, pharmacy, vet care, care for a neighbor, family member etc. We have had this in place for about a week now, but tonight it’s official. The store was very nice and orderly, but instead of chatting with neighbors and others in my town, people were focused on getting things and getting out. No TP, sanitizer left, but there were napkins. Lots of convience foods- pizza, pre-made gone, but plenty of fresh items. No one was grabbing and everyone helped elderly get something they needed. We’re known as a “friendly town” and that was evident today. The only odd thing was driving the three amin blocks of town and all the little shops are closed!
Hi Laura,
My hubby was out helping someone whose furnace quit last night… he had to go to the parts store…but he had to call his order in first, pay for it with a credit card, then he went there, called them to tell them who he was and what he was picking up, they opened the door and gave it to him. It was kind of weird, he said.
My dresses sold tonight on Ebay and I’m just guessing the Post Office will be open tomorrow… let’s hope so!
It’s strange to see things closed around here too. I’m so glad I work from home.
Blessings, Jeanne
As always, you have a beautiful and pleasant set!
Thank you so much for your very kind words, Oksana!
Blessings, Jeanne
Lost my comment again! I hate when my pc eats my comments… where do they go? I’m pretty sure when I accidently rest my hand on the left side of my lap top while typing I’m hitting a key and making it disappear. It’s magic !
Jeanne, I think the skirt looks lovely but I know you have to be happy with it. I understand the redo. I’m with Linda though, I’d lay it aside for another day too. Explains why I have a few half finished projects hanging around.
The set looks adorable whether the colors are pink and green or pink and tan. It’s a winner!
No toilet paper here either … no tissues, paper towels, napkins, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes of any kind. Here in New York everything is shut down. The Governor ordered the shutdown of all nonessential businesses. It didn’t really register until hubby and I went for a nice drive Sunday. It made me think of the days when all stores closed up for the day at 5pm and nothing was open on sunday. Really strange … stay safe everyone
Hugs
Ingrid
HI Ingrid,
YOU STAY SAFE… you are in the center of it all. Stay inside… and stay on your couch… this will be over soon, hopefully! If you get cabin fever, just get in the car and drive around… but stay inside. Oh wait. You probably aren’t even supposed to be OUT…even in your car, are you? Well, scrap that idea… stay home and cook or clean or read or watch TV or surf the internet and find something interesting! :o)
Bye and again, stay safe!
Blessings, Jeanne
