I did find some time this weekend to work on a few more things for Ten Ping’s Easter set.
She now has a cute pair of Ultrasuede shoes, a pair of white thigh highs and a new creamy white wool felt jacket…
I changed the thigh highs from the one in the picture above to the ones you see on her legs. I made those above and snagged a hole in one of them, so decided a better fabric might be better. They are only about as big as my little finger! :o)
I kept the jacket pretty simple; just using an applique stitch around the edges and adding 3 tiny wooden beads for buttons. Without adding any blue on the jacket, it can be worn more easily with other things.
Several months ago I bought a pair of white shoes on Ebay thinking they would work for Easter dresses…unfortunately, they were pretty crummy looking where the glue showed in places and that snap was WAY too big!
I put my creative hat on Sunday afternoon and pryed the shoes apart thinking I might be able to make a pattern from them. I traced the sole on the inside of the shoes onto a piece of chipboard and used a piece of adhesive black felt for the outside shoe sole.
I didn’t have any cream colored Ultrasuede in the heavier weight needed for this style shoe, so I used a piece that sort of matched the wooden colored buttons on the jacket and bonnet.
After a few tries, this is what I managed to come up with…they actually have little slits in the straps that allow the buttons on the shoes to slip through.
You can also see the thigh highs I made from a white knit. The have elastic at the top edge and easily slide up your dolls legs.
I hope you like it so far… I think I’m just about finished… I have to adjust one snap on the back of the dress and see what kind of accessory Ten Ping wants to go with her dress! :o)
I’ll have to look at my pictures and see what needs adjusting…color wise! This is ONE BEAUTIFUL set in person.. I certainly don’t want any ugly pictures in the listing on Ebay!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Ten Ping’s outfit is just adorable, Jeanne! I love her little jacket, especially. You’re right–it could go with anything!
How clever of you to take one of those shoes apart and use it for a pattern! I could see that the snap was, indeed, way too big for the size of the shoe (a perfect example that one size does Not fit all!), and your solution was much more elegant and effective. Perfect color for spring, too–and won’t show the dirt like white shoes would!! (Some of our girls do get a bit rambunctious at times!)
Gigi keeps whispering in my ear that she would look fabulous in blue, as well as pink!! LOL (And the white jacket would go with her other clothes, too!)
Hi Gigi, (I mean Charlotte),
It was nice to use the shoe for a pattern… they fit pretty well on Ten Ping…after a few tries. I still would like to tweak them the next time… but I was happy with this first pair.
(Keep hounding your mom for this set, Gigi!)
Blessings, Jeanne
So perfect. Not easy to get everything co-ordinated and to scale.
Pretty little Ten Ping! She wants to keep everything you know.
What is everyone doing to combat cabin fever?
Here in New Zealand there is a lot of home baking and bread making happening.
I have lots of porcelain dolls to finish.
Stay safe all.
HI Jane,
Thanks so much for your kind words about Ten Ping’s new dress set.
I hope you are doing well… I am staying very busy…not all in the sewing room either. But I am getting things accomplished…that NEEDED to be accomplished!
Have fun working on your dolls…
Stay safe down under! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
This is really a darling little outfit, Jeanne! I love the way you laid it out to show all the pieces, like you did previously with another outfit! I too, like that there is no dull gray background!
Ten Ping was always a cutie, but I think she is even cuter with that darling wig! I actually see her in a new light!
The jacket is a true “Jeanne Marie original” that you are well-known for, and goes perfectly with the other pieces, and yes, can be used with other outfits too! Is that edging hand sewn, or on the machine?
The shoes, well, I cannot even imagine making such tiny anything, but you outdo yourself every time! I do have an 8 inch Betsy McCall, that is not the one I usually have in my pictures, but good grief, I could not imagine making shoes for her! I can hardly get anything on or off of her very well at all! She just stays in her pretty pink outfit and stands on a shelf!
Time to get working outside, here. Hubby cut the grass for the first time, and things are getting greener every day. The trees are blooming, but we can’t really go anywhere except a drive in the parks or out in the country. This will be a spring we will never forget for all the wrong reasons. Hang in there everybody! At least we have our dolls!
Hi Linda,
It’s nice enough outside today, I might sneak in some outside pictures. I hope so.
I think Ten Ping looks pretty cute in this bob wig too… and the color is perfect for showing off her features. I’m glad you like the set. So does Ten Ping and she DOES think it’s hers to keep. Oops!
My hubby is working on getting our mower ready for grass cutting too…it’s a little overdue, I think…
We are planting a few things in our yard too. He bought me a pretty blue Hydrangea and I can’t wait to see it bloom. I love them, but have never had one…in blue.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Little Ten looks very happy. Great dress and accessories. Was the old shoe you have originally for Ginny dolls? I remember well those snaps. All of the shoes had large snaps which I suppose were to make it easier for little fingers. Also, I don’t believe smaller shoe snaps were even available. Even being extremely careful as a child of five, some of the snaps detached from the shoes I owned. Those snaps were notorious for that. I looked up shoes for Ten Ping, and some are not too pricey. Might save a lot of time. They are so tiny. However, your shoes match the set perfectly. Will Ten be dancing in the sun in her springy outfit??
I’m going to try and get photos of my recycle project today, if the sprinkles we have been having cooperate. Now, I’m on to a sew along. Not lacking for projects around here. 🙂
Hi Joy,
I’m not sure what doll the shoes I bought were for. They were just listed as tiny white shoes and I took a chance on them… I think I paid $7.00 total for them, so that’s about what a pattern would probably cost, so I’m okay with that.
I have to almost make a pair to see what needed to be tweaked on them… I wish there was some way to make them “rounded” over the toe area… they just come down across the toes and go under the foot. Now leather can be molded, but not this Ultrasuede… I made a little shoe mold out of clay and let it dry, but I still can’t get the Ultrasuede to curve over the toes. Oh well…. keep trying Jeanne!
I haven’t decided what Ten Ping will be doing in this dress yet. I’m hoping to get outside and get some inspiration for a story line.
Are you doing the Sew A Long with Lori on Meadow Fan Club? I saw that she was making a night gown I think….
Thanks Joy, Have fun!
Blessings, Jeanne
Yes, the Meadow Lori sew a long. Haven’t gotten far as I had to put a couple of pieces of trim on my recycle project. No sun yet today for any photos.
Awe so cute! You’ve done it again Jeanne, another beautiful outfit. I adore that hat! Wondering if my heartstring could fit into it. I’ve done some looking but can’t find much about Ten Pings measurement. Is the 5/6 wig she’s wearing loose? Tight?
Does anyone here have both dolls?
Spring has sprung here in Western New York! Thanks to a pretty mild winter, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario never froze so everything is popping up! It’s so nice getting outdoors. Yesterday it was sun shining and 70, today its rather dreary and drizzling, it may snow. Lol … oh well it’s still early spring.
Hope everyone is well and staying safe.
Hugs
Ingrid
HI Ingrid,
Let me tell you about the hat… I made another bonnet just a hair bigger than the one Ten Ping has on and I tried it on Elin, (Iplehouse BID) and Patsy Tonner, and Ellowyne and Noel (Boneka) and it looked adorable on all of them… I’ll have to show a post of it…
Ten Ping’s wig is a 5/6″… it’s pretty easy to get on to me… I just make sure I don’t use my finger tips, but the long part of my fingers to put the wig on. I first set it on their head and use the inside part of my thumb to hold it in place, even with the bangs way down in her eyes… then I use my fingers to gently pull the back down by her neck… and then use the palm of my hand placed on top of her head to shift the wig back to show off her pretty eyes. I need to see if I can do a video of how I do it.
I don’t have a Heartstring doll, or I’d show you…
Stay safe there in NY…
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne.. you’re so sweet. Thank you for the pointers on placing a wig. I asked how the wig fit because I’m trying to figure out if the hat will fit my heartstring. I think the dress will work but wondered if the hat would be way to big. I’m still not sure… doll measurements are difficult to find for some reason.
That whole ensemble is so wonderful! Everything from the color, the print, the pantaloons, the dress, the shoes, the jacket, and the crowning glory…that hat! It makes some impressive pictures too! Good luck with it!
The warmer weather is bring out little green things…and from what I see most of them are WEEDS! So back at it today ..darn Creeping Charlie!
HI Kathie,
We have that Creeping Charlie too… it seems to be taking over everything around here! I guess it is in Omaha too?
Thanks so much for your sweet comments. I really like this one and hope my pictures can do it justice. I just LOVE pretty LITTLE things! Especially little dolls in dresses!
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, Ten Ping looks adorable. You have made such a sweet outfit.
I spent last week “attending” the Virtual Doll Convention. My favorite seminar was on Izannah Walker and the dolls she created. I also got to “meet” Helen Kish and see some of her beautiful dolls. Pure doll bliss!
I have also been reading through old Doll News magazines. There are so many dolls and so much to learn. But what joy.
HI Dorothy,
I’m so happy you enjoyed the Virtual Doll Convention…it sounds like it was a lot of fun! Sorry, I missed it… I have a book, given to me by one of my earlier doll customers, and Helen Kish signed it too, for me! I love looking at her past dolls. She is quite talented…as are hundreds of other doll artists.
I bought a stack of old doll magazines and still have them. I like looking through them ..and learning too!
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
The Ten Ping outfit is a 10 on the cute and pretty scale!
We have sun, temps in the 50s and no wind. I will be riding all over on my bike.
I have lots of projects to keep me busy. When I can’t get out to ride my bike, then I start to get cabin fever. Otherwise I have been training for social distancing most of my life.😊
Thank you Julia,
I think it’s a 10 too, and I don’t always say that! This one is extra cute because it’s extra little!
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing it come together.
We just hit 60 degrees here and the sun is trying so come out… a bit cloudy right now… I better get out there and get those pictures taken.
Have fun riding that bike of yours!
Blessings, Jeanne
Such a lovely little outfit. The bonnet is just precious and the dress and pantalettes are lovely.
The jacket is perfect un-embellished so that it goes with more items. I love the pointelle tights. I found a couple of pairs of AG size thigh highs in pointells when I first started collecting and love them. The shoes are great and I really like the way they “button through”.
Been spending time reading, playing with my kitties, and sorting things. I can’t do any doll craft projects due to the fact I either don’t have the supplies and the fact that my mom’s sewing machine isn’t stitching properly. The tension is off and causes the thread to loop. Starting to really have cabin fever, but it’s been raining or gray most days. We’re only allowed to be driving if you’re going to the store, pharmacy, or going to care for someone else who can’t do things themselves.
I did enjoy playing with my new Mary the other night. It’s really fun to win a doll out of the blue. I think you won Isabelle.
Hi Laura,
If you search on u tube there probably are several videos on how to adjust the tension…even if it isn’t your exact machine it will give you the basics
Thank you, Kathie. I’ll give that a try. I guess you came probably find most how to videos on you tube.
Hi Laura,
I hope you aren’t tired of your new Mary doll yet. I saw that set advertised in a sewing magazine here while back. I need to find that picture again so I can show everyone.
I’ve been sorting too… I’ve done my junk drawer in my kitchen, my spice cabinets, my utensils drawer, and tomorrow, I’m going to do my pots and pans. Eventually it will all be nice and neat and thinned out! Yay!
I hope you can find a video to help you out with your sewing machine tension. There is nothing (well “almost” nothing more frustrating than a sewing machine that isn’t sewing properly!) But the tension on a machine is almost one of those “gray” areas where it’s trial and error to get things right… turn it this way a little bit, a little bit that way, higher number, lower number, lots and lots of rows of stitching till you get it right. I hope you get it figured out.
Thanks Laura,
Have fun snuggling with your kitties,
Blessings, Jeanne
