Problem solved…the tiniest doll bonnet I’ve ever made…

Molly’s dress and coat set, shown at the right side bar, ends (tonight) Saturday evening… I lowered the price and hope someone would like to see it on their doll. I know I’m running out of time and I want to make sure it sells for Easter. You can see it by clicking on the picture or you can click HERE.

I also lowered the price of the dress being modeled by Eden. I never got those new pictures taken of it, so I did the next best thing… I lowed its price $10.00 and hope some dolly sees it and wants it for Easter! :o) You can see it by clicking on the picture at the right side bar or click HERE.

I was determined to solve all the “bumps” (as Ingrid called them) with Ten Ping’s outfit from the list I mentioned yesterday…

~ I decided on a straw bonnet…

~ I found TWO paper roses in my stash that were the right color and worked when I added a few other flowers with them.

~ I dug every piece of my wool felt out of the drawer and on the bottom I found a piece of off white that will work for a jacket!!

~ I might try to make her a tiny pair of cream boots…if not, shoes will do.

You’ll probably notice I changed the wig Ten Ping was wearing… this sweet little bob was much more manageable and I think looked awfully sweet on her.

Okay…now the story on how I figured out the bonnet. Unless you have a doll hat mold that fits your doll head, like this… (The blue bonnet pictures are from the one I made recently for my Little Darling Emmie.)

…you’ll have to find something that is the right circumference of your dolls head for the crown… I searched my whole house for a bottle cap or a cup or a trinket that would fit over back of Ten Ping’s head. It has to be something too, that the straw won’t stick to… something like glass or metal or resin or plastic…

I looked everywhere and finally decided on this glass measuring cup from Anchor. I liked the bottom end of it because it was slightly rounded and wasn’t a sharp edge. You have to be able to get the straw from the flat part wrapping it up the sides to easing over the edge of the glass and going flat on the top of the hat.

I’m going to actually try another one using this 1/4 cup measuring cup… I like the way it flares out instead of just going straight up…

I decided to make the bonnet in two sections… the crown and then the brim section. (My pictures below show doing it all in one piece). I used my sticky tape and had my crown start about an inch down on the glass…wrapping round and round until I got up over the top. It kind of looked like a straw cake sitting on Ten Ping’s head. I didn’t take any pictures of it while I was doing it, but this is what I mean…

When I got the crown section finished… I used a skinny bladed knife to loosen it from the glass… the glue sometimes holds it to the mold you are using… It took a little bit of tugging but I got it off… Then I used the mold I had for the Little Darlings and just made the brim smaller.

This is the best picture of what I mean…

I removed it and had to figure out exactly where to glue it inside the crown. Oh, how I wish I had taken pictures now… but I think I got it… here are some pictures.

Do you like it? I used the 2 blue paper roses I found and added some cream and tan glittery ones. I had one length of 3/8″ ivory silk ribbon for the ties.

Then I was thrilled to find a piece of wool felt in the bottom of my drawer. I cut out a jacket but haven’t done anything to it yet…

Looking pretty Eastery, isn’t she?

Have a great weekend… I’ll see you Monday,
I’m not sure what my weekend holds, but if I get it finished, I’ll post it at the right side bar on here…
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Jeanne, that hat just turned out darling!! It is so cute, and works so well on Ten Ping’s little head! The shorter hairdo is better, too, at least in this instance!!

And now a jacket!! Gigi is bouncing around here, thinking that this outfit should be Hers!! We shall see, we shall see.

  2. Oh gosh, Jeanne, that is a perfectly ADORABLE Easter hat!! It looks so much better on Ten Ping with her shorter hair-do! The flowers are just perfect in the way they accent her dress!
Everything is coming up roses today!

The jacket will be just the thing, since like now, one day is very chilly, and then like yesterday when it got up to almost 80, like quite another! You never know around here!

I think before long, you will be known as the “Hat Lady”, the one who makes adorable hats to go along with her amazing outfits! That is something I don’t really see when checking out Ebay or even Etsy! You are a class in itself!!

    1. Thanks Linda,
Yes, the little bob wig is much cuter…and not so overpowering!
I enjoy making these doll hats…I’m glad yo like it…I find myself looking at little flowers for them all the time. Fortunately I found those 2 blue ones for a base to build on…
      Thanks and enjoy your Saturday!

  3. Good morning Jeanne,
You figured it out! I knew you would. You’ve made a one of a kind Jeanne Marie Original and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I like the short wig you’ve chosen too, very becoming. The jacket already looks lux and it’s not finished yet.
Well I’m off, have a great day.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Thank you Ingrid!
I appreciate your kind comments…and “I’m ” off to have a great day too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Measuring cups and spoons. Who would have thought? So creative. This hat appears to fit Ten Ping well. The other seemed to just perch on top of her head. Maybe it was the wig. Love the pretty flowers and matching ribbon. And the felt jacket is a fashion statement. Now she is ready for spring and the probably non existent Easter parade.
Still working on and off on my recycling project. Why do these things end up taking more time and turn out differently than anticipated? So many things I could be doing, like cleaning. Ha ha.
Looking forward to Ten Pings fashion show.

    1. Hi Joy,
I was thrilled when I got the crown of the hat off the glass cup and could try it against the back of Ten Ping’s head… and SO glad it seemed to work.
I guess this will have to be an “imaginary Easter parade” this year.
I hope you get your craft project finished soon. We all can’t wait to see it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi Jeanne.

You have outdone yourself with Ten Ping’s outfit – it’s adorable! The wig change was a good choice as the hat fits her perfectly! Will you embellish the jacket a little? I’m not quite sure how; maybe tiny flower shaped buttons or some rick rack? Just a thought, if time permits.

    1. Thank you, Claudia,
I’m glad I switched the wigs too…a little less hair on such a tiny girl made all the difference in the look.
Oh, the jacket will get embellished some how…just not sure yet…
      Thank you so much.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The hat definitely does complete the outfit. And the jacket is a great idea. When I grew up in Pennsylvania we always had spring coats or suits for Easter because you never knew what the weather would bring. One year my mother made me and two of my sisters matching floral dresses for Easter. Every time we wore those dresses we would at least have a rain shower. Mom said the guessed the Lord thought the flowers on the dress needed watering.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the jacket. I’m not sure it needs much. And it matches the hat perfectly.

    1. Thank you Barbara,
We used to have Spring coats much of the time with our Easter dresses too. Thst was cute what your mom said about the flowers on your fabric needing watering! :o)

I’ll have to figure out what to do for the jacket… I think something simple.
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, she is adorable. The hat frames her face so nicely. I just want to give her a hug so give her one for me, please.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I WILL give Ten Ping a hug from you!
Thank you for your kind words!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. What a very sweet bonnet. The whole set looks so fresh and springlike. You are certainly having to get creative with sewing with what you have in your stash. I don’t know who you would use, but, if you still had Kit, you could make a “Making Do” outfit.
My QT Mary doll and horse arrived, so I’m off to check her out

    1. HI Laura,
I guess my “inventory” is paying off right now… I’m glad I have what I do!
Congratulations on receiving your new doll and horse. I know what YOU”LL be playing with tonight… Have lots of fun!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Ten ping’s outfit is sooooo sweet! Yes the new wig is better, the dress fits so well, the bonnet is the cutest little thing, the Flower trim sets it off and the jacket will be darling for sure!
    Have a good weekend.
I’m going to find all the spring dresses for the girls and change them into Spring.

    1. Hi Kathie,
Thank you for your kind comments on Ten Ping’s set. It is tiny but it is cute! She is so stinking cute, sometimes I can’t stand it! I just want to sew for her all the time…
Have fun changing all your girls dresses! Sounds like fun!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Genius idea for wig forms! The whole ensemble is so cute. Love the wig change. She looks like she’s wearing the wig instead of the wig wearing her. I have two Ten Ping dolls and would like to know where you found the wig and what size it is. Adorable little doll. Have you considered selling the hats on your site or are they too time consuming? Maybe boring to make lots of them?

    1. Hi Susette,
I’m glad you like the bonnet and my “make shift” hat molds…
I just looked at the wig on Ten Ping and it’s s size 5″-6″ and I think it’s probably a “Doris” style.. probably got it from Monique, but not positive.
Actually I have been thinking of making some hats for dolls. …
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne
