I listened and went with different doll shoes…

Now, don’t call me fickle, but this morning when I woke up I looked at those burgundy shoes and the color was just “off” enough to make me think twice about them.

However my day didn’t include much sewing… at least earlier today… as we had to go out of town to a doctor’s appointment for my hubby. This time it was for his knees. Remember he had both of his knees replaced at the same time… it was back in 2012. Oh goodness, that was even before I had started my blog (in 2014) but I know I’ve mentioned it before. Anyway, he had a ligament stretch on the outside of his right knee and he’s been limping and hurting for quite a while. Good news on it though. He does have to have surgery, but there really wasn’t an option. He could keep limping along for the rest of his life, and it would only get worse. He could be fitted for a brace; but they are hot, they don’t stay in place, and they don’t fix the problem; they just make it tolerable while you have the brace on. The last choice was to have surgery and fix the ligament, by actually adding a piece to his titanium knees. It’s supposed to straighten out his knee and make that leg as straight as his left leg. He told the doctor, “Well, that’s a no-brainer!” It will probably happen sometime in March!

Okay, so we were in the car a big part of the day today, but he called it a “Date-Day!” and we had fun. We went to the Goodwill, right next to the doctor’s office! Yay! I only found one thing… but he found a few “treasures.” I’ll show you mine in a minute.

We went to lunch and hit a few other stores and then we just listened to “oldies” on the radio as we drove back home….and talked. It’s been a while since we had time to just sit and have each other’s undivided attention! It was nice!

We saw a big eagle’s nest in a tree along the interstate on our way up there and then we started looking for it again on the way home. It was huge, but we didn’t see any “activity” in it. :o(

We got home about 6:30 and then we had to put things away. I was wanting to get in my sewing room and see what I could get finished on Eden’s Valentine dress. (I’m desperately hoping I can get this finished in time for Valentine’s Day!) Surely I can!!! :o)

I read all of your comments and decided to use white shoes (thank you Shara and Joy) and I made new socks… some a little bit fancy with a ruffled top and a bit shorter. (thank you Joy) I hope you like the look. The shoes weren’t going to be included anyway, but I like to make the finished dress and accessories (like shoes) look like it will on your doll so you can envision it. I figured everyone had a pair of white shoes… It also makes the dress look pretty Eastery too! :o) (just in case something comes up and I’m still sewing on this dress in March!) :o(

Okay so lets see some pictures…

Here are the new shoes and white socks… there’s just a hint of shimmer in the ruffle!

I finished the belt tonight and have the flowers sewn on this time. I think it looks really cute now.

I have the back ready for the snaps, but they will have to wait another day…

I’m pretty sure this dress needs a slip…and it will most likely be a white one, since the bodice is lined in white cotton, I don’t want the skirt to have a different shade underneath.

I’m still working on what to do with her hair, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.

Okay, so here is my find from the Goodwill this morning… I saw this little tea set…

…and as tiny as it is…

I thought of sweet Navi. I laid the box on my cutting table and guess who jumped off the shelf and said, “For me? Yes please!”

Guess who’ll be up next???

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I was just reading everyone’s comments on yesterday’s post, and saw the suggestion of white shoes, which I thought was a good one. I also thought about black patent, but, seeing Eden with white shoes, I do think I like them better than I would black patent (although my Molly’s favorite dressy shoes Are black patent!).

Anyway, the dress is just lovely, and I do agree about a white petticoat. I like her new socks, also.

Lucky Navi, to have a tea set just her size!! And she will be next! I wonder what color she will choose????

I’m glad you and your hubby had a chance to spend some time together. After all you’ve dealt with lately, that is especially appreciated, I’m sure.

My hubby turned 87 today! He had a quiet day–he went to Arby’s for his favorite fish sandwich for lunch (I had Bible study and lunch this morning), then I made taco soup for our supper–it’s one of his favorites. I also gave him a Milky Way (which I imagine he ate for breakfast after I left for Bible study!! LOL), and tonight he requested popcorn. He’s happy.

  2. Oh, yes, I think the new socks and white shoes are just the thing for this dress, Jeanne! I actually did think maybe white shoes would be best but I just concentrated on what you had there to show us. I always wanted white patent leather shoes when small, but all I ever got was black, and wanted white boots, and white sandals, but always got red! You can be sure my dolls all have white patent leather shoes, boots, and sandals now!!

I don’t recall having lace on my socks in the 40″s, but I think my younger sisters did in the 50’s. They are just perfect for that dress, giving it a delicate, breezy look, if you can call it that!

Oh, George, who I am now going to call “Fearless George”! I can’t even imagine getting both knees replaced at the same time, after having just one done last year! And now another surgery! Well, it does look to be the best option, and after the amount of surgeries he has had, what’s another one?

That is a darling little tea set for Navi! If you went out looking for one, you would never find one, so you have to get it when you see it! Now maybe we can see what she will be wearing at her next tea party!

  3. White shoes look great! With the white slip underneath it will be perfect. It is still is one of my favorites. I love bright prints.
That tiny tea set is just waiting to have a picture taken with Navi ( hint hint)
Even though your trip had to be to the Dr office it sounded like fun! Poor George..hope it isn’t as long a recovery as the replacement .
It is a stay at home day today,,ice and rain on top of ice and rain, UGH!

  4. This dress and shoes are beautiful Jeanne
I have been reading, just no time for comments all the time
I love your latest creations. All of them are treasures and we love our little dollies.

  5. Glad George’s fix will make for many more years of comfort. Good choice.
We often enjoy Breakfast with the Beatles on the radio when driving down to see the grands. Love those oldies. 🙂
Even just seeing an eagle’s nest would be such a highlight for me. Fun. 🙂
Absolutely love the white shoes and fancy socks. Just reeks of parties and fun. (Linda, I always had black patent too.) And the little buttons added to the decorative flowers are the perfect touch. Such a sweet outfit.
Navi’s little tea set is so cute. Love the pink and white dots. Why is tea set two words and teapot one? Baffles me. 🙂 Made me think of Marilyn as she would probably know. How is she? Did she ever have that party?
Hope you are able to finish the dress and get it listed. Because it looks like Navi will not let you forget her any time soon. 🙂

Dear Jeanne, the dress is lovely. I think the shoes look nice.

Well, of course Navi should have a tea party, every dolly should (laugh).

    Prayers continue for your family.

  7. The white shoes are absolutely perfect and I love the sweet little lacy socks. Where do you get the felt (I think they are) flowers you add to things? Need to find some of those. The dress is so pretty and with a white slip and whatever accessories you add for the hair, etc., someone will surely snatch this outfit up quickly.

The polka dot tea set is so cute. I have a little tea set for my dolls. It sits on a “garden party” type table with chairs. I’ll have to do a spring photo shoot and include that sometime. I think my winter snow photo shoot may have to wait until next year. I’m thinking I’d better get on to Valentine’s and Spring.

Some mentioned having mostly black patent leather shoes as children. I remember the fashion “rules” for white shoes. Not until after Memorial Day and never after Labor Day. So we often got black shoes for Easter so we could wear them into the fall if necessary. You didn’t usually get shoes unless you needed them except for Easter and back-to-school. I remember as I got older I either got black, red, navy or bone shoes for Easter because it was before Memorial Day. The only exception was when we were little and we sometimes got white shoes for Easter because no one cared what little kids wore. I’m really glad they dumped some of those rules, but they were so ingrained I do give them a thought now and then. Being born and raised in the northeast, the rules worked because after Labor Day it was starting to cool off and you were wearing fall clothes. But in Texas where it feels like summer well into the fall and we are still wearing summer clothes until Thanksgiving sometimes, we wear white shoes when it suits. No one gives it a thought.

My hubby is going to need to have his knees replaced sometime probably this year. Is George’s current problem something that can be foreseen and maybe taken care of at the same time, or will it show up over time no matter what? Sounds like after his surgery he should be good to go for a long time.

David and I just had our 40th anniversary this past Sunday. We still enjoy chatting when we are driving or eating, etc. We spend a lot of time in the car when we are driving to and from Colorado each year and it seems we never run out of things to say – although I must admit some stories are repeats at times.

Happy 87th to Charlotte’s hubby. And many, many more.

Looking forward to seeing what you have planned for Navi. She always looks so cute not matter what she’s wearing.
