It should have been a regular Sunday for me, but it wasn’t. I was heading out the door to get in the car…my hubby had backed it out of the garage and was waiting on me. I made it down the 3 front steps and somehow my left shoe slid on a rubber mat on the bricks and “down she went!”
I knew instantly I had hurt my left ankle and foot and my right wrist and thumb. I was laying on the bricks crying and yelling for help, but my hubby didn’t see me fall because his truck was in the way. Fortunately, Reuben could hear me and he was barking up a storm…which prompted Rebecca to come and see what was the problem. Fortunately she hadn’t gone to work yet. She waved for my hubby to come and long story short, they got me in the car and off we went to the ER.
They took lots of xrays and thank the Lord, no big bones are broken, but my ankle and foot were too swollen to see if the smaller bones were fractured. I’m praying they aren’t. I have to go back for more xrays when the swelling goes down. My ankle and foot are very painful even when I just barely move my toes.
They tried fitting me with one of those boots, but I can’t put my foot flat at a 90 degree angle so my heel won’t go back in the boot. So they tried another brace that just held my ankle from twisting sideways, but it wasn’t enough support to keep my foot from moving. They finally just fit me with a support shoe that holds my foot steady and keeps it from moving.
I sprained my right wrist and thumb so I have a brace on it too…I am typing this on my phone with one finger…
I can’t use crutches because I can’t use my right hand. My hubby has been wheeling me to and from the bathroom in his office chair. It looks a little ridiculous but it works. When I texted Cindy and Deb what had happened, Deb said, “Make sure George waits on you hand and foot.”
:o)
So I’m going to be taking a few days off to rest and heal. I can’t do much with only my pointer finger anyway…
Now for the winner of the Vintage Velvet dress…thanks to everyone who participated…I am blessed to have such kind readers.
The high bid for the dress was $175.00! Thank you dear bidder.
The donations that everyone gave totaled $140.00!!!
Thank you ALL SO MUCH.
See you soon,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, my goodness, girl!! When you do it, you DO it!! I mean, *I* fall fairly often, but usually it’s just down on my knees on flat level floor. Nothing quite so spectacular–so far, anyway!
However, I have had broken toes (right pinky) and small bones in my foot (left 3rd metatarsal–both this year, but in separate falls) and can tell you that, yes, it does take a while for any fractures in those little bones to show up on x-rays. On my 3rd metatarsal, it was almost two months before I knew I had broken something–the first set of x-rays (taken a Month afterwards, when it didn’t seem to be getting better) didn’t show anything. It took a second set and another doctor to spot a tiny little crack in the end of that bone. Who knew such a tiny crack could hurt so much?!
I, too, had a surgical shoe similar to what you have. I tried a “boot”, but found it compromised my balance (which is sketchy at best), and I could only imagine what would happen when I tried going down our steps with it on!! <<>>
So, you sit back, take it easy, maybe rent a wheelchair for a few weeks (so you can propel yourself into the bathroom!), and I will add you to my prayer list. Be sure to use ice on that foot, especially–it really will help!!
I’m so glad to hear the auction went well, and Marilyn will be able to throw quite a nice party for her caregivers!! That is exciting news!
BTW, I got to see our great-nephew Rurik today, and have some pictures to share in the near future!!
Oh NO, Jeanne! Not now, not right before Christmas with all that you have to do yet! Well, if it makes you feel better, you have a really good excuse for not being able to do much! I feel for you, and hope things get better FAST, but you can’t hurry an injury like that.
Oh the other hand, oh my goodness, what a wonderful bunch of ladies you have to give all that money to go for such a good cause! Marilyn will feel very loved, for sure! It is such a pretty outfit and will be a wonderful treasure to whoever the lucky person who bought it.
Feel better, Jeanne, just sit and rest with a cup of hot tea or chocolate, turn on a Christmas program and relax! Maybe it is God’s way of saying you are tackling too much and need some down time, although you might not feel that way right now!
Congrats on the fundraising Jeanne! I’m sure Marilyn will appreciate your efforts on her behalf, and her caregivers will thank you too👏.
My worst fears are of falling and breaking an ankle or wrist. I know a few people who have had that misfortune. Hope your recovery will be quick ☺️. The hardest part may be resting and letting others take over your “jobs”.
Take care and get lots of rest. I hope you feel better soon. Nothing worse than getting an injury at the busiest time of the year. I’m sure George will take good care of you though.
Congrats on the fundraising for Marilyn! That was such a wonderful thing to do.
Ouch, ouchie, OW! Did you get some heavy duty pain meds? Take care, rest up, and delegate!
I planned to go in to town and have lunch with my aunt today, but it’s snowing a little and blowing hard! I would have already canceled but I need to pick up our dog’s medication. It’s a dilemma.
I bet the auction winner has some very happy dolls. “Girls, don’t fight over it. You can take turns and share!”
Hurray for Reuben the rescue dog! How fortunate that everyone was home to find you quickly. We have 13 brick steps to get to our front door. My father used to count them carefully every time he climbed them. Guess we should all slow down a bit eh? I’m sure you will be very sore today so hopefully, you can zone out and watch some old movies. Do you have one of those walkers with a seat around somewhere? They work great for quick transportation trips. Hoping that there are no breaks and so sorry this had to happen to you. Rest and get well soon.
As to the auction, whoopee! So happy that Marilyn will be able to throw a successful party. A big thank you to the winner, to those who were able to make a donation, and to everyone else for their good thoughts and wishes for Marilyn. 🙂
Oh nooo Jeanne!
I’m so very sorry. I hope nothing is broken. Sending prayers your way. It looks like a good time to catch up on reading, perhaps watching some Hallmark Christmas movies. I wish I lived closer, I’d drop off a meal for you and your family.
Wonderful news on the fund raiser for Marilyn.
Hugs
Ingrid
Oh Jeanne… OW !!! You poor child!! So glad Reuben barked and got Rebecca’s attention. Your foot looks so sore. Please take care and rest up. Like most accidents, you feel the pain immensely later on. Hope you have something to help the pain when it gets intolerable. Bless you, dear.
Wonderful auction for Marilyn!
Dear Jeanne, oh my goodness. I am adding you to my prayer list. Reuben is truly your “Rin Tin Tin” wonder dog.
It looks like you are going to have to sit things out for a while so rest, rest, rest.
No worries about us, we will be sitting right here on the sofa with you. Let one of us know if you need to have your pillows adjusted or would like more tea.
Oh rats…I’m so sorry that happened. They say a sprain can be worse…but you probably don’t need to hear that. Be careful if down the road they want you in a boot because it throws your back off kilter. My friend just was in a boot and now going to the Chiropractor. Ugh! Maybe you could use one of those scooters that you kneel on?
Great outcome for Marilyns fund raiser!
That will be one awesome party. Prayers for quick healing!
Ouch!!!! I will definitely add you to my prayer list. Hopefully you will be up and around and back to your usual self soon. Fortunately you have family to cater to your every need. Relax and enjoy it and don’t try to do too much too soon. And if your family needs a rest, you can always move in with Dorothy in PA and the World. Sounds like she would take great care of you.
One of the women in my Chorale fell and broke both her wrists at the start of rehearsal season. She was actually in a hospital visiting someone when it happened. When she was ready to come back someone drove her back and forth and we set up a music stand for her and someone helped turn pages. We knew it would be good for her recovery if she stayed involved. By concert time she was good to go.
How great that so much was contributed to thank Marilyn’s caregivers. There is no question how much Marilyn is cared about and appreciated.
Dear Jeanne, oh yes, Barbara is correct, “you’ve got a friend in PA” and a sister. That used to be the slogan or our license plates.
Oh, I am so sorry that that happened, Jeanne. Right before Christmas is a terrible time to get injured. Prayers that nothing is broken. You can always count on pets to alert others to something wrong. Such a good boy Reuben is. The one good thing is that you will be able to rest and watch all the Christmas movies you want. I have some I like to watch each year and I haven’t gotten to one yet. First up is always “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
That is a great amount raised for Marilyn. Congratulations to the winner of the dress.
Hi Jeanne.
So sorry to hear that you fell and hurt yourself. I agree with Linda D. – take a much deserved rest. ( I was in your shoes two years ago when I fell and broke my leg. That was someone telling me to take a rest. I was fortunate to have recuperated at my sister’s house.)
I can’t believe that after cataract surgery in both eyes, you sewed on and kept up with your blog. I think you are an amazing seamstress!! No detail is left undone. I love seeing the outfits that you’ve created. I especially enjoy hearing what your dolls have to say.
I’ll cross my fingers and hope that you didn’t break any bones.
Have a very Merry Christmas!
So sorry this happened. Kathie is certainly right about wearing a boot. I figured out years ago when seeing people on crutches or wearing a boot that their backs would be thrown out because their unaffected limb was up to 1-1/2 to 2 inches shorter than the one with the boot. Find some shoe for the other foot that will match up your leg lengths on both sides or you may end up with back problems for the rest of your life. If your back was a machine, it would clutch up and not work at all, but we are not machines. The adaptation leaves one with possibly permanent problems that can be avoided. Take the shoe to a shoemaker or have George figure something out to even up your leg lengths. Why don’t orthopedists recommend this approach?
Also try to use as little medication as possible as you need to be as aware as possible to protect from having another fall. Again, so sorry this happened. Glad George and Rebecca are there to help out. A friend who had this happen went to a rehab hospital for a month when her husband was not yet retired and had to travel for his job and had wonderful care and physical therapy, a very important part of the treatment. She did the exercises religiously when home again and is fine but didn’t take the suggestion about evening up the body and does have back problems. We’ll all be thinking of you and hoping for a steady recovery, knowing it will take a lot of time.
Hope you rest well and heal quick! Not a good time to have it happen but no time is good.
We all have to many things we want to do but your health comes first. If all the good thoughts and prayers coming your way you would be all well today.
Take Care,
Sylvia Jennings
Hi everyone,
My one finger i can type on my phone with wants to thank all of you for your kind well wishes.
This is going way slower than I had hoped.. I still cant stand on my foot or even take one step.
I think the married couples Christmas party is just going to be a night of visiting with each other. A few people have texted me about things so maybe something will happen.
My hubby is taking good care of me..
Well, my finger is pooped out.
Blessings, Jeanne
