Another Couple’s Christmas Party is in the books..

Thank you, everyone, for all your kind comments and prayers! It’s so wonderful to be cared for.

I’ve started writing this post on our way home from the party. My hubby asked me if he could make one quick stop…no, it wasn’t to get some dessert or anything like that. He had a roll of red shiny ribbon and stopped at the church. They have been working on a plumbing project in the basement and one of the vertical pipes runs by the desks of a few of the girls who work there. Actually it’s a sewer pipe but no one can tell that’s what it is. My hubby thought they needed a little Christmas cheer down there, so he took his ribbon and wrapped it around that pole Candy Cane style. Normally I would have been right behind him taking pictures to share, but all I have are my words. I hope the girls like their new North Pole pipe!

Our party turned out very nice. My dear friend, Leann, came out to my house earlier in the afternoon and brought a child size wheelchair with no arm rests for me to try. It works great and is easier for my hubby to push me around in. My hubby wheeled me out of the house and to the party in It.

Leann also picked up some prizes for me, and met us before the party started to do a quick bit of decorating. My hubby had gone upstairs and found the box of stuff I usually use for the party…some garland, a few strings of battery operated lighs, and some candles in little containers. Leann also picked up some candy to sprinkle on the tables and added a few centerpieces.

I came up with a simple paper game to play at the tables and we gave a couple of prizes for the couple who had shared the most Christmases together and the couple who had shared the fewest.

We had really nice fellowship with each other and ended with our Pastor sharing.

See you soon,
Blessings, Jeanne

I wondered if we would hear from you tonight, Jeanne, but here you are!!

How thoughtful of Leann to bring that smaller wheelchair for you to use. Makes life easier, having the right tools! We actually have my husband’s mother’s wheelchair in our basement; she was a petite lady, and it’s a smaller-sized one. Ron thought that, since I’m even smaller than she was it might come in handy for me. She’s been gone 18+ years now, and I have yet to need it!!

The table for your couples’ party looks beautiful!! I see you went to the same Asian restaurant again this year.

I finished the dress for the swap, and will do a petticoat (a la Jeanne!); then it will be ready to wrap and mail with the other goodies to be included.

Hope you get a couple of days of feet up, ice packs, etc., and that the news from the doctor (whenever you get x-rays) will be good!

  2. Oh how happy I was to see that you wrote this morning, and had your party! Looking at the pictures, one would never know anything was amiss, and you look wonderful! (better than the pictures from the last few days!)

The table looks so nice and yes, I do recognize it from last year1 It is wonderful that others have been able to jump in and help out. It certainly look like you had a full house there, and I bet the food was wonderful!

It was so nice of George to “decorate” the pipe to add Christmas cheer to the ladies! Things like that are what Christmas is all about, not the tinsel and sparkles!

I am getting there as far as Christmas decorations go, but we had our furnace go out on use two days ago! Finally got it fixed, but that sure was a downer at this time of the year!

  3. How nice that the show went on without a miscue. Everything looked great. Can’t wait to hear what the workers had to say about the decorated sewer pipe. Pretty funny.
Glad to hear that Linda’s furnace is now fixed. It was almost exactly a year ago that our furnace met it’s demise, and we had to have a new one installed. Why this month is so popular I don’t know.
Last couple of kid gifts showed up from Amazon yesterday so looks like we’re all set. Hoping to finish off the Christmas cards today and then someone has to wrap the presents. Probably won’t be done until the last minute as usual. 🙂
I think you must be getting better as I don’t think you would have made it to that dinner a few days ago. When is your xray appointment? Hoping you are healing well and the pain is receding.

Dear Jeanne, well, you certainly are an example of the adage “you can’t keep a good woman down!” How wonderful that you still got to celebrate and continue with that tradition.

The table looks quite festive and the party attendees look very happy.

Please try to get rest, when you can. Prayers continue.

  5. Okay, whose turn is it next year for the heater to go out in December? I was two years ago, Joy was last year and Linda was this year. Any takers?? Nah. What was really funny is that ours went out on a day when we had snow. A rare event here. And it was out for about four days. It was fixed in time for our next warm spell.

So glad you made it to your party, Jeanne. Missing all the camaraderie would have made you unhappy I’m sure. They say healing is increased when you’re in a positive environment so you should be up and out of your wheelchair in no time now.

I finally finished Gracie’s dress. I’m so not used to sewing for a bigger doll. Her dress is lovely though, especially accentuated by the pretty red petticoat that peeks from under the two rows of green velour ruffles. I think I’ve accomplished all the Christmas/holiday dresses I can manage for this year so I will be sending some pictures off next week. Now I must go and make four huge stockings for my son and his family. I did these for my kids when they were young. Always being in the choir at church, we were late getting home Christmas Eve. While we sang, the children were in the church nursery, so after church we got everyone home and ready for bed and hubby and I sat and drank eggnog till we were sure everyone was asleep. Then Santa could come. Needless to say we didn’t get to bed until early Christmas morning. When the kids were old enough to get up on their own, the deal was they didn’t touch the wrapped gifts under the tree until we were up but they could empty their stockings. That was good for some extra sleep for us because we put coloring books and crayons and other toys to keep them entertained for awhile. As they got older the things in the stockings got bigger and they outgrew the stockings so I made these huge stockings. You couldn’t hang them. They had to sit on the sofa. Eventually any small gift got wrapped and put in the stocking. Now my son said he needs them for his family. Now I have my embroidery machine so I’m going to embroider all their names on them and designs on the stockings. I hope to have them ready to give to them Sunday. I took a break from picking out designs to check in with the blog.

Hope you are feeling better and more able to get around every day. What wonderful family and friends you have.
