Thanksgiving, Walkers and Articulation… WHAT???

Elizabeth is still standing on the cutting table in her “one sleeved” velvet dress. I had no time yesterday and today seemed to be even busier. It’s now 20 minutes till 10:00 and I’m thinking I’ll just let her stand “ONE” more day! :o) Sorry to those of you who were expecting her dress to be finished.

We had a nice time at our Thanksgiving meal… and it may go down in history as my easiest Thanksgiving dinner ever! I bought a turkey breast that was fully cooked, and just needed to be warmed up. That went in the crock pot and turned out super juicy! We also had an Applewood bacon wrapped pork tenderloin that was cooked and just needed to be heated up for about 50 minutes. I put that in my small Savory pan and it turned out juicy and delicious too.

I had already made my Sweet Potato Souffle and Corn Casserole yesterday… so they just needed to be heated up. I got up this morning and did my potatoes and put them in my smallest crockpot. They were ALL yummy!

Kristoffer brought over cheesy hash brown potatoes, and a filet mignon steak and Rebecca made green beans with bacon. I made some deviled eggs, and got out some grapes. I figured we had plenty to eat. I has a nice salad I was going to make, but with that Romaine alert, I decided to pass!

Here is a picture of my table… not fancy at ALL, but it was nice…and the food was GOOD!

I bought Kristoffer and my hubby one of those Edward’s pies… a chocolate one and I got Rebecca and my mom and I some Halo Top ice cream.

We had a really nice visit and got caught up on everything going on in each other’s lives. Since I was a bit tied up in the kitchen, my hubby went and picked up my mom and brought her over to our house and I think she enjoyed the home cooked meal. She’s pretty frail right now and we have to follow her around to make sure she doesn’t fall… When my brother came down last week, he brought some Christmas lights that run off a battery and I got her walker down from the attic. (she broke her knee cap a few years ago) We decorated it! She’s got the snazziest blinking walker in the whole place! We’re hoping she takes a liking to it and will use it more…

If you still want to see more… how about a few “body” pictures of the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls… Kathie sent me some pictures of Bella “almost” in the nude so I could see her joints and where she was articulated. This was Kathie’s email…

“Her elbows and knees bend without looking so mechanical… it’s a smoother look. Joints not too tight, not too loose. Each hand is a bit different and the way her thumbs are molded she should be able to hold items. Her wig is a combination of shades so the color has lots of depth. Her legs fit into her trunk a bit higher and bend out a bit.. maybe not far enough to ride a horse but close.
Check out her toes…she could maybe even wear flip flops…”

Kathie also sent me pictures of a “sewing project” she did for her Little Darlings but said she might make it for Bella too… I’m going to share it tomorrow… You won’t believe how cute it turned out and it only cost her ONE DOLLAR!! *sigh*

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Your food all looks and sounds delicious, Jeanne!

What a great idea, to add those Christmas lights to your mom’s walker! I’ll bet others will wish they’d thought of something like that! (Or maybe copy the idea…)

Good to see Kathie’s Bella up close, all the joints, etc. I got her the other day, and have been too busy (or tired…) to get her out of the box yet! Bad me!! I had gotten Leneda (from the Leeann doll line) the day after Bella came, and opened her box right away, because I’d been waiting over a month for her!! (She came from Canada, and it usually doesn’t take that long, but this time it did.) So maybe tomorrow I’ll get Bella out and take a look at her.

I’m wondering, Kathie, if your LD “sewing project” is for the swap over on ning? I’m in that swap, and perhaps other blog followers are, too. Maybe it would give something away to show it tomorrow? Or maybe not….

Speaking of which, I went thru fabrics tonight and found three fabulous ones that would work for the swap theme, but that’s all I’m going to say about it!! LOL I now have to decide which one I want to use; I already know sort of what I’m making!

We had a very quiet Thanksgiving; we went out for noon dinner, then out to the cemetery to put flowers on my parents’ graves, and then came home and took naps! I read, and later I sewed. Our son called–they had just gotten to his girlfriend’s parents’ house for dinner when I talked to him. I think he has his two younger boys this weekend, so we are hoping to get together with them. It’s been a long time since we last saw them.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you had a nice Thanksgiving too. Ours was very nice…
I hope Bella has made it out of her box by now. It seems like she is the most popular of the dolls. I like her slightly darker toned skin.

Kathie didnt say anything about the swap so I think it might be ok to show…

It’s fun going through our fabric stashes, isn’t it?
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Hi Charlotte and Jeanne,
Sorry to be so late responding! Yes , Charlotte…I’m sewing for the Swap but what Jeanne is talking about is not the “Actual Swap Theme” Tee Hee :0)
Love doing that swap…I don’t have you this year but I do have fond memories of New Years Theme a couple years ago and you made my Little Darling the sweetest nightie and told the cutest story and included all kinds of accessories.

I had kind of forgotten exactly what it was I’d made that year–thanks for the reminder, Kathie! It was a fun swap.

I found some wonderful “star” fabrics in ye stash, so will be using one of those for this year’s swap, I think. Still deciding….

  2. Oh, your table full of food looks so good, Jeanne! Mine was full too, but not with more than one main meat dish, the turkey, of course! We too, had a turkey breast which makes things so much easier on the cook! I can’t remember how many early mornings I have had trying to get everything out of the turkey cavity without freezing my fingers off, and just trying to hold onto the turkey! That preparation part is the worst! I had my candied sweet potatoes, of course, it’s the only time I make those, way too fattening otherwise!! Brussel sprouts were also on the menu, dressing, spiced apple slices, (can’t have Thanksgiving without those), rolls, salad, and pumpkin pie! Our daughter had us over for more dessert, which then consisted of pecan pie, chocolate cake, and more pumpkin pie! I’m stuffed!

My niece and her son, who is going to Loyola came by, and it was a nice visit with everyone. We crashed when we got home, and now I am Willie-izing the doll room, since he is coming today for a visit while his mother takes his sister to get 4 wisdom teeth removed. Have to get the doll things put away, or at least anything I don’t want missing or broken!

Love the lights on the walker! Your mom will certainly be a beam of light around the nursing home and the talk of the place!

I see that Kathie’s doll looks so much better than most BJD’s do. Those cute little feet!!

    1. Hi Linda,
Our turkey breast was so juicy and tender that I may not ever cook a turkey on Thanksgiving again!! It was easy and delicious!!

I cut the sugar in half on my sweet potato souffle…used 1/2 cup sugar instead of 1 cup. It was still plenty sweet and I might even try cutting the sugar down to 1/4 cup…sweet potatoes are already sweet by themselves.

Yes, aren’t Bella’s toes just the cutest?
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Looks like you will have plenty to eat way into the weekend. Everything looks yummy. I believe it is a turkey sandwich kind of day around here. Our daughter had two entrees. Brined turkey and spiral ham. The turkey was the best I’ve ever eaten so next time we have turkey here, I’m trying Whole Foods brining mix, as it makes the turkey moist and delicious.

How fun to decorate your mom’s walker. I can just picture a decorated walker parade at her place of residence. With prizes for everyone. 🙂

Can’t wait to see Kathie’s dollar sewing project. First time I’ve seen Bella’s two tone wig. Very nice.

Well, no cooking today for you. Black Friday shopping either in person or online and maybe a little sewing if time permits. Have fun.

    1. Hi Joy,
I just enjoyed some leftovers for lunch… saved enough for dinner tonight.
She not super keen on using that Walker and I’m not real sure how often she’s using it when I’m not around… she said they are for Old people!! :o)

I liked seeing Bella’s wig close up too…do you REALLY like these dolls?

      Probably no shopping for me…you???
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I didn’t check out the blog yesterday so instead of wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving I’ll just say I hope everyone had a great one. Looks like yours was pretty amazing. I love the idea of the lights on your mom’s walker. She should have a lot of fun with that. As for when you complete the dress, I think we’re all enjoying the wait. It’s like waiting for Christmas to come. Not to worry. It will happen in time.

We had a really fun day yesterday. We joined our daughter-in-law’s family for Thanksgiving. We usually just have it with our son and his family but they decided this year to go to her grandpa’s because he is having some heart problems and she wants to spend more time with him. She had a difficult childhood with a mother who took off when she was two months old and a father who was absentee most of the time. Her grandpa was always there for her so he is pretty special to her. His second wife, Joyce, just had knee replacement so she didn’t want to go anywhere. We had no problem with them doing that and were prepared to do our own thing but we were invited also. We know all the family well from birthday parties and they are fun, but we didn’t want to invite ourselves. Dionne has a brother who has a son and daughter not much older than Skyy and Jaiden so it was a fun day for everyone. The cousins love hanging out together. And oh do we have cooks in the family. Our son made his special creamed corn, our DIL made her wonderful sweet potato casserole, we made the fruit salad which is a family must, her brother made a turkey covered in bacon, her grandparents cooked a ham and Joyce’s daughter made scrumptious dressing and green bean cassarole. There were pecan and pumpkin pies and a cherry-berry pie that I wish I’d had room for. The really nice thing is that the young couples did the clean-up while we older folks sat and chatted. We were home by five and much against my will I ended up taking a nap so definitely no sewing was done yesterday.

Yes the Fashion Friends do have some of the nicest joints of articulated dolls and with tights, leggings or pants their legs look so natural. But I can’t seem to get Bella’s left arm to hang right. Her right arm is fine. I’m afraid of messing with it too much for fear of breaking her but it tends to look like she has her shoulder thrown back.

The only bad thing about going somewhere for Thanksgiving is that there are no leftovers. So tomorrow David is going to smoke a turkey in his pellet grill. We are looking forward to turkey sandwiches. Can’t wait.

    1. Hi Barbara,
I think it’s safe to say we all had a nice Thsnksgiving….I wonder who is out shopping today?
Rebecca did my dishes afterwards and that was a real blessing… I’m glad you had a nice time visiting with family…
My Ten Ping has one arm joint that doesn’t work right. I didn’t notice it for a while but I’m like you, I don’t want to force it so I leave it alone. However you might want to check with the company. You really didn’t pay for a defective doll so you might call.
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Such wonderful good food ! Would like to taste it !
    Have a nice Thanksgiving !
Great to see the two colored wig of Bella. My doll will be there next Thursday and I wonder if she will fit LD dresses , so I can’t wait to see Kathie ´ s project.

    1. Hi Sophie,
Congratulations on getting one of the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls too. I hope she arrives right on time and is just what you were hoping for!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh your Thanksgiving table looks wonderful and the food very yummy ! Those special cookers you used did the trick and prevented you from some work. I’m glad you enjoyed your family too. Everyone’s efforts with dishes added is so helpful.
We were alone because of being separated from the kids. They sent us pictures all day of the fun they had with their cousins. Despite being alone, I feel thankful for so many things- family despite the distance and living in the best country in the world. I’m so blessed in so many ways.

    1. Hi Paula,
I am so blessed as you are!! We have so much to be grateful for! I love getting together with family and just spending time together. I’m glad you were able to visit with you kids even if it was with pictures and videos.
      Thank you,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Your dinner looks wonderful and tasty. My grandsons did the main dishes for the us for the first time this year: Pork tenderloin with cranberry and walnut stuffing, bacon 🥓 wrapped with a wonderful sauce. Their mother went on about how she didn’t like Brussels sprouts but found she really liked them baked at 450 degrees, also with an unusual sauce. Then it was traditional ambrosia that wasn’t going to fly, but made with oranges 🍊 picked from the tree in the backyard, she thought that was great too. She is Chinese and thinks everything has to be fresh but canned pineapple 🍍 also made the grade.

We certainly do all have reasons to be grateful this year. Glad everyone had memorable days for one reason or another. The Christmas rush is officially on! Thanks for the great pictures of Bella, Kathie. I’m going to take her out of the box-cum-bed when I get home. She looked so pretty there. Momma looks cute too with her walker.

    1. Your Thanksgiving looked so yummy! It doesn’t have to be fancy…I could just tell how good everything must have been. My sweet DIL outdid herself on the table and we all brought sides and all of us from youngest to oldest played BINGO. I hadn’t played it for a hundred years and forgot how fun it is.
Loved the lights on your Mom’s walker…what a hoot!
Glad you all liked the pics of Bella. She is dressed in the ” Tree Costume” that was actually supposed to be a Wine bottle cover since she is lacking any Christmas dresses. I have to get the other dolls in their Christmas dresses . Our Christmas Doll Club Party is here on Tuesday and they must be ready!

      1. HI Kathie,
It sounds like you are running as much behind as I am… I am having company come on the 7th, but I sure don’t act like they are! I have the Married Couples party on the 12th and am just getting the email to them tonight. Then the Staff dinner on the 4th… I have to bake a carrot cake and make some teriyaki wings and help set up…I’m not too stressed out about that.
I have no ideas for my party this year… MAYBE we’ll play BINGO! :o) I wish it could be that simple. I talked with Cindy the other night and I AM going to make it something simple this year… We all enjoy each other’s company so why not just visit with each other?
I have looked at all the pictures of Bella and Sara and Hanna more times than I care to admit. They are very cute dolls.
I just checked FAO Schwarz and they must be out of the dolls… I don’t see them on there anymore. I saw a new Sara doll on Ebay for $113 but waited too long and now she is gone.
        Thanks Kathie!
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Susette,
Congrats on saving the day with all your food items… Your tenderloin sounds as wonderful as ours was. Ours didn’t have any sauce, just juices, but was wrapped in Applewood Smoked bacon. I heated up a few leftovers tonight and that smell is now all in my house! I love it!
It was nice that your grandsons did the cooking and came up with clever ways to serve your dishes!
You’ll have to tell me what you think of Bella. I’m trying to get lots of opinions. I just looked on FAO Schwarz and don’t see any dolls. I bet they are all sold out…
Thanks for your sweet comments Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I found this blog while looking for more info about the Fashion Friends. Everyone seems to have Bella, but I ordered Hanna. Can’t wait for her to arrive and see what her size is compared to other dolls I have. Great blog!

    1. HI Melinda,
I hope you’ll join right in with your comments about the dolls!! It does seem like everyone has Bella, but the lady on here who told us all about the Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls, bought Hanna first and then got Sara. When you get your Hanna, please send me a picture of your girl so everyone can see her.
      Nice to have you here!
      Blessings, Jeanne
