Should I change the color from pink to red?

It’s a bit of a mystery to me…the dress that Lian last modeled. I think it is the first dress this whole year that hasn’t sold when I listed it. It’s my first EVER Effner dress that hasn’t sold. I lowered the price $10 and it still hasn’t sold…hmmmm….

So my hubby and I were talking about it on the way home from Paducah. KY. (Yes, we went again yesterday, this time with Rebecca.)

Ok, so back to the talk between my hubby and me…he said, “do you have your post written for tomorrow yet?”
I told him I didn’t.

Then he said he had something I could write about. He said to ask “my ladies” if “he” had made a mistake by picking the pink ribbon bow.

I told him several ladies had mentioned they thought I would have chosen red to accent the dress. To which he replied, “That’s okay… I’ll be the “fall guy” for picking the wrong color ribbon.”

So I guess I’m asking for opinions…

~ Should I change the ribbon, the buttons and the floss to red? I don’t think it would take that long. I’d have to find her a new “accessory” but red would be pretty easy to find..

~ Should I leave it as is and lower the price another $10.

In case you were wondering what the dress might look like with a red ribbon… here is another one I made for Lian that was accented in red…maybe this will help you decide…

I just thought I’d get some opinions from you all…

Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I know it’ll be a little extra work for you, but, yes, I vote for the red in this case. Although I like the soft look of the pink, perhaps it just didn’t show up quite enough? Or add quite enough “sparkle”?!

You could also try other bright or even dark colors–bright pink, bright yellow, black, burgundy, maybe even orange! It’s such a cute outfit, maybe it just “needs” that little extra bit of color to be more noticed.

In the meantime, save that little pink purse for another outfit–I’m sure eventually it will add just the right touch elsewhere.

(You could also remind George that several of us here also agreed we liked the pink–and we did–but maybe this just wasn’t the right time/place for it!)

  2. Jeanne, I do like the pink, but if it isn’t selling, I guess you had better change it up. Maybe the pink was more for spring, and at this time of the year we are wearing more of the primary colors. It is an adorable dress and it is bound to find it’s buyer, so I guess if you changed the pink to red, it might catch someone’s eye more than the pink did.

  3. Yes to red, but I wouldn’t lower the price. The red looks great, especially with the plaid purse with the braid strap. You can always lower the price later if this doesn’t work, but I’d bet it will sell and even bring bids. This will be an interesting experiment. Good luck!

  4. Jeanne,
I think the pink is beautiful! I have been watching Etsy and many dresses have not been selling and the sellers are ones whose dresses fly. out of their shop. Not sure what is going on right now, but people do not seem to be buying. I would either add a tulle slip with a pink bow and keep the price or keep the listing as it is and slightly lower the price.

  5. Jeanne, I think the dress is adorable with the pink accents. When you put the red accents and purse in the second picture, it was equally adorable. For me, I’d have to play “ Door Number 1 or Door Number 2 “ and I would be happy either way.
Guess I’m no help. Now I’m going to read the other comments and see what the others think.

  6. Well, I think Laureen is on to something about dresses not selling right now. Of course, there has also been a big convention in San Antonio going on which may also have contributed to lackluster sales. Everyone saving up to pay for the convention extras and new dolls of course.
I’m a fan of the red. Seeing the dress with the checked bow and cute purse, wow. Definitely more of a fall back to school look although I prefer the hair bow to the hat. Most of my dollies like shorter length dresses too. But, that is just the choice around here. Maybe relisting after the convention will bring in more buyers who purchased a new LD at the show and need some fashion wear.
Sorry it didn’t sell, but I’m sure it will next listing whatever you decide. And I don’t think George made a wrong color choice. Just a seasonal issue.

  7. I also have noticed dolls and doll clothes not selling right now. However I like the way you finished around the hem on the original dress. The ruffle and lace on this one drew my eye and I don’t know why but it didn’t appeal to me. Maybe too country looking or something? Maybe pink is too light, perhaps a deeper pink or rose? Of course the little beret is always so cute on the girls. I was curious about why you didn’t make a matching hair bow like the bow you made on the dress, or even put a small matching pink bow on the hair bow?
You may be sorry you asked for opinions, but I love learning from the responses from everyone. Good luck with a decision!! It’ll be great as usual, can’t wait to see.

Dear Jeanne, I like the pink, especially with the lace on top. I think I would add another prop like a dog to walk or a teddy bear.

I am really sorry this didn’t move. I think it’s been kind of quiet in the Little Darling community. It’s definitely been kind of quiet on our ning site.

It’s difficult to know what drives ebay buyers. I tend to like offers rather than outright bidding.

I agree with Joy, maybe relisting it now that the convention is over will grab the attention of potential buyers.

  9. Without seeing the red accents I would say, “No! Keep the pink!” But then I saw it with red and that changed my mind. The decorative stitching at the hem is what did it for me. Perhaps adding pink accented stitching would do the trick for selling it?

  10. Well ladies,
I woke up this morning to a ping on my phone and someone decided they wanted the dress just as it is! YAY! So I guess my post was just an opinion getter… It really might have worked better and quicker, but I’m glad it happened the way it did. The lady is thrilled who bought it.
I am busy boxing it and Madleine up and running to the Post Office.
    So thanks for advice.
I hadn’t noticed dresses NOT selling on Ebay because I’ve been too busy to just browse there lately. I think it’s time for a few Fall dresses and then on to Christmas… NO PINK needed there! :o)
    Thanks everyone,
    Blessings, Jeanne

  11. I was going to say I liked the red…but no worries now😉🤗
Glad it sold the way it was which is darling.
    Have a good weekend!

  12. Very late to comment, but I’m glad it sold. I was going to have a completely different opinion and say accent it in light blue. I do think things in general are not selling right now. I, for one, haven’t bought something vaguely doll related in a few months,
