4th of July dresses to share… and something else…

I always love to see what everyone is up to in the way of making dresses or just posing your girls in dresses for the holidays. The Fourth of July is Thursday and I wanted to get in some of your pictures.

Linda is always in “creative” mode when it comes to the props she uses for her girls. These pictures she sent are just the cutest! I’m happy to share them… Her 40’s girls are going to a parade and Betsy McCall is lifting up her slip so you can see her new “sparkle” slip!
There are a few others that look pretty patriotic too. I LOVE that dress on Felicity, Linda! So pretty!

Julia (aka: Jillaurellia) sent this picture of her girls… aren’t they sweet? I saw that pattern in the pattern books and love how it looks made up. Well done, Julia!

Barbara sent me a few of her girls too and some explanations of the pictures.

This is Gracie…she is wearing the outfit that was in the Silent Auction a few weeks back. Barbara said she took her sailor hat off while she was putting the bows in her hair and forgot to put it back on. I think we’ll just have to wait for another picture with the hat on, don’t you agree?

Barbara is learning about the pitfalls of using props and posters for her dolls. Fallon and Claire didn’t want to stand on their own so Barbara leaned them up against the poster but…it created a gap… I know how that goes, Barbara… you’ll get it right next time, I’m sure. The scenes on your posters look wonderful and very summery! Barbara told me she even tried ironing the creases out of her posters… YIKES!

Another picture is of Claire in the slip Barbara bought from me and I love how she made the dress to “showcase” the slip! Creative, Barbara! Then Fallon wanted to get in on the action since Claire was, so Barbara included a picture of the two of them.

Barbara also sent a picture of Cleo Patrice (derivative of Cleopatra which didn’t seem to fit her). She came when things were happening with my mom so she waited till now. I’m glad you decided to show Cleo to us, Barbara. She is a sweetheart…oh and yes, as the Paola Reina dolls do, she smells like vanilla! Barbara said she is wearing Claire’s last-year’s Easter dress which fits and looks adorable on her. Barbara said she had been visiting relatives in Spain and while there the family decided to take a side-trip to visit Paris where the picture was taken. Her mommy is telling her she can smell the pretty flowers but she cannot pick them. :o)

Susette sent me this picture of a dress she made for Molly. You can tell she’s one of Susette’s girls… by looking at the little patio houses she has.

Thanks everyone for such sweet and charming pictures!

Now for something a little bit different. Susette also sent me this link to a neat way to look at fashions being morphed from one design to another. I think you’ll like this. If you have a laptop or a desktop, it’s best viewed larger. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched it.

Fashions Through the Ages

Hope you enjoyed that!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Thanks to everyone who shared pictures of their dolls in summer/July 4th finery! Such fun to see how everyone did their displays, with accessories, etc. The video was fun, too. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
It makes me wish I had more time for more ted, white and blue dresses.
Yes, wasn’t it video fun to watch?
Glad you enjoyed the pictures today!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. How fun to see how other people “do” the Fourth, Jeanne! I do have to apologize for the pictures of Scarlett, Ivy and Betsy. I didn’t have anything “cute” by them, just them standing there with flags! I was meaning to add something, but my time was limited, and I had other things on my plate. They are just standing on a shelf, and there isn’t much room for much else there.

I love how Barbara hiked up Claire’s dress with a bow to show off her slip, and I almost did the same things with Betsy! That slip is just too pretty to be hidden! Cleo is so lucky to be vacationing in Paris! Imagine the life those dolls have! And Gracie looks like she is ready for some Fourth of July fun!

Julia’s girls are just darling! Love the dresses, and props! Susette’s Molly is perfectly dressed, waiting for the parade!
Yes, seeing other peoples dolls gives us all inspiration and a cheery way to start our day!

    1. Hi Linda,
Your pictures were Just Fine…Scarlett and Ivy and Betsy didn’t need anything beside them…they were so cute all on their own.

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us today!! When everyone adds a few it makes for a fun viewing!!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. It’s so neat to see everyone’s pictures of their girls celebrating the 4th of July. Linda, Julia, Barbara and Susette’s pictures are always fun to see. I like the background pictures Barbara used. Perfect beach pictures. I wish the toy market sold more background pictures for our dolls. I’ve asked American Girls to consider making some but to no avail. It is fun to be creative as seen in the pictures above.
    Thank you for sharing!

    1. Hi Paula,
I wish there were more background scenes for the dolls too. I’ve looked on Ebay and there are some but nothing that made me buy them.
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the pictures today!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Wow, that was fun! Such wonderful photos. I love that wrap dress in Linda’s first photo. So cute. And Julia, Barbara, and Susette’s girls are all so finely attired and staged. Really enjoyed seeing everything.
I should have known that the fashion morphing would be from the Rijk’s. Thanks Susette. I loved that place when we visited years ago. Especially, the doll houses in the basement.
My kids are very jealous that they aren’t all dressed for the holiday, but we just don’t have enough outfits for everyone. Maybe in the future. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
So I’m wondering if you have gotten a dress on Emily yet? Maybe something red, white and blue?
Just wrap some ribbon around the ones who are “clothes-less.” :o)
Glad you enjoyed seeing the dolls all dressed up.
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, what lovely dolly photos. I will be keeping my girls away from the computer or they will be screaming buy us some new dresses (laugh).

It was interesting seeing how the clothing changed from era to era. It makes me wonder what might be coming next for us.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
It was very fun to see the dresses everyone has their dolls dressed in. I’m glad you enjoyed looking at them (by yourself) with no girls in the room!! :o)
It looked to me like dress that ended the slide show was from the ’60’s…I think they need to add a few more decades !!!
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Now I’m in real trouble. After seeing Linda’s Betsy, my Betsy wants a slip too. She also wants Betsy’s dress. Did you make that Linda? It is sooooo cute! The other outfits are wonderful too. The last of your pictures is great! So patriotic!

I love Julia’s picture. The dresses are really sweet and I like the way the sparkle slip shows from the bottom of the dress. I like the props too. Who is the doll sitting?

Susette’s dress for Molly is adorable. And her little fairy houses are the cutest. I don’t have a patio to decorate but wish I did. What a wonderful photo studio it would be.

Thank you Susette for the link to the fashion morph. It was, to say the least, amazing! I do wish the video would have indicated the era. I have a book of fashions through the ages, but I’d have to go look them up. I bought it for research for writing so I never became really acquainted with the looks of each fashion era.

One day I will submit pictures and not have to apologize for what I see in what I thought was the finished product. I get so caught up in trying to make the dolls look animated, I forget other important things. There’s one I took of Claire to the left of the walkway to the beach and it actually looks like she’s running up the walk. I found the posters in a package I bought a long while back showing how to photograph dolls. The posters are for 18″ dolls, but I find they actually work better for the smaller dolls like LD, H4H, etc. As for ironing the posters, I iron paper all the time. My biggest problem with the posters was I didn’t want to ruin the ink so I didn’t spend much time on it. Hopefully keeping them flat between some other things will help. Can’t believe I forgot Gracie’s hat. It’s so cute and looks really great on her.

I haven’t looked yet but Wal-Mart and other places have posters. Some of them might be good for doll photography. There is also a website called allposters.com that has some really beautiful posters of different sizes at pretty good prices. I saw one poster that looks like it would be great for 18″ dolls.

  7. Hi Barbara,
I’m glad you, like everyone else, enjoyed seeing the dolls in their patriotic outfits!! It was fun for me to share them.
Just to let you know, Hobby Lobby has some great posters and they are usually 50% off
I used to have quite a few but can’t seem to locate them anymore so I must have gotten rid of them…unless I packed them away somewhere…
Thanks for sharing your pictures with us..it added to the fun post today.
    Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Everybody’s girls look wonderfully dressed for the 4th. I always enjoy seeing all the different dolls everyone has.
Thanks for the video, Susette. That was really fascinating!
