Today is finally the day I’m going to reveal the bonnet for Rebecca’s dress…
But first, let’s take a look at what we have seen so far…
…the pantalettes…
…the ruffled petticoat…
…both of them together…
…the dress…
…and finally, the bonnet…
…remember it was cut from a dress I found at the Goodwill…
…and this is how it looks now…
I went to Hobby Lobby in search of some silk flowers to use for decorating. It was a pretty limited selection of flowers to match the fabric, but I found some aqua colored roses, however nothing else to go with them. I was a bit disappointed, so I went to the section in the store where they have all the paper flowers and paper cut outs.
I had a scrap of my dress fabric and a scrap of the bonnet fabric and when I saw this box of aqua colored paper roses, it seemed like a no-brainer. The color was a PERFECT match!! I mean I couldn’t have found anything better if I had searched in 10 different stores. So I put the silk roses back and bought these.
They are pretty chunky and a little hard to sew on, but I don’t think they are coming off… They are on there to stay, just don’t get them wet! I already had the green ribbon and the little wavy leaves.
I pre-tied the bow on the side and made it so the strap under her chin straps onto the inside of the bonnet.
I decided to leave her hair down since the bonnet fits pretty closely to her head… it was nice and curly since I have had it up in a bun for a few months…
Here are a couple more pictures of the bonnet and the dress…
I hope it was worth the wait… now if I can just get some Ebay pictures taken, I’ll get it listed!
Thanks everyone,
Happy Friday to you all…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, that bonnet turned out just beautifully!! I love the roses (as you said, perfect color!), and also the softer green of the bow and smaller leaves on the other side, which picks up one of the colors in the print. It really pulls the whole outfit together!
Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you like the bonnet. I think it might be one of my favorites, but it could just be that I love the colors so much.
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Very sweet little bonnet, Jeanne! I love the paper roses, remember that Marie Osmond song? The bow is the perfect touch and the color gives contrast in a mostly aqua color scheme. Cool looking too! Doesn’t it feel good when everything just “clicks” together?
From the beautiful underpinings to the adorable cap, this outfit is a winner in my book!
Hi Linda,
I do love it when everything comes together as this one has. I have enjoyed every day as I worked on this one.
Rebecca is looking slightly sad and I think she’s beginning to realize this dress won’t be hers to keep.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
It was actually Connie Francis who sang “Paper Roses” first–in the 1950s (yes, I am OLD!! LOL), and then Marie Osmond sang it in the 1970s or early 80s, I think Both were nice, but Connie had a little different quality to her voice that made it extra-special, I think.
The bonnet is so sweet and the paper roses are perfect. I love the color of the ribbon and that you pre-tied it. I love paper flowers and have many metal dies to make my own as I make greeting cards and mixed media. I have a huge faux mason jar filled with purchased one.
I love this outfit. The colorway is so sweet.
Hi Sandra,
I have a pretty serious love affair with paper flowers too…and was thrilled to find the exact color combinations I needed for this bonnet.
I have a pretty big tub filled with mine. I had “little” aqua flowers but not these big rose’s like I used.
Thanks for your sweet compliments,
Blessings, Jeanne
The whole outfit is luscious, Jeanne….your bonnets/head wear always make me melt. This bonnet is so very, very pretty…wow…your work is outstanding and I feel like I’m in luxury lane whenever I see your work. I’ve certainly enjoyed the process of this and every outfit you make. Thank you for taking us along. The winner will be thrilled I’m sure.
Blessings.
Thank you so much, Becky,
Your compliments are over the top and what make me try harder every time I make something new.
I’m so glad you enjoy my sewing…and so glad you enjoy following along as I do it…
Blessings, Jeanne
Well now, with Rebecca all dressed, where will she go? Picnic? Band concert in the park? or maybe invite friends for tea on the veranda? Guess we’ll check in for the next episode to find out.
N. CA weather update. Weather has been in the high 70’s, clear, sunny, no humidity and today we’ll get into the 80’s. Perfect weather for the mole that has been tearing up the front lawn. Yesterday, we were stomping down tunnels when we actually saw the earth move as the little guy was scrambling away. Other person running after him with his shovel poised was pretty funny. What was that great movie, Caddy Shack? Pretty funny.
Hi Joy,
I haven’t yet decided what the storyline will be for this dress yet, but it will come.
Oh this icky moles…we have them too. I hate it when you are walking in the yard and all of a sudden your foot goes down in a hole and you realize it’s a mole hole.
Hope you catch yours!!
Blessings, Jeanne
Ooooooh yes! That is so beautiful! It is just so detailed and there couldn’t be a better color match! That makes such a complete ensemble and so summery .
You sure gave that dress a whole new life.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you Kathie,
It’s a very summery dress and I’m so glad you like it. I’ll be sad to see this one go. These colors are some of my very favorites.
Blessings, Jeanne
I hope you have a box of tissues available because Rebecca is going to need them. Her outfit will be sold before she’s ready to give it up. It is a lovely ensemble. Every part of it is totally special. I love the bonnet. So sweet. And her hair is so beautiful hanging lose out from under the bonnet. The hoop petticoat is a wonderful addition. And the pantalettes, well they are absolutely lovely. The person who wins this auction will be a lucky person, as will the doll that gets to keep it.
Thank you Barbara,
I think I have seen a few tears on Rebecca’s cheeks. Maybe even heard a few sniffles!
I love seeing the dress set on Rebecca as she stands on my cutting table.
Thanks you for all your sweet compliments.
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, what a lovely bonnet that turned out to be. The whole set is just beautiful and summery looking I’ll bet Rebecca is already feeling sad about having to give this one up. I can imagine her going to a summer picnic I would love to see it on Caroline as well. Well, I’ve been running since early this morning and now have to get on to dinner. Have a wonderful evening.
Thank you Laura,
If this doesn’t look like a cool summer day, I don’t know what does! I will be as sad as Rebecca to see this one go. I have loved seeing this fabric on my shelf and it’s no more… :o(
You’ll be thrilled to see that I used Caroline and even picked one of her for my Gallery picture. She looks very pretty in it and my hubby said her liked her best in it.
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
