Everything seemed to be in my favor today. I had most of the day to myself, the sun was coming and going, the skies were blue with puffy white clouds, I finished a hair bow for Emmie’s hair, then gathered some paper flowers for her bouquet, her hair was rebraided and better than before, and I was set to take pictures…
Enter the WIND!
It was blowing so hard so I had to search for the best place in my yard to get her pictures taken. I wanted the sky to be in the background so there was no laying on the ground or sitting on a stool. I had to have her up higher to catch any blue skies…
After searching and searching for the best clearing in the trees and the best area with the least amount of wind blowing, and nothing distracting in the background, I settled on a place just outside the garage door. The sun was too bright to have her out in the direct sunlight…it made her and the dress look all washed out. So I started grabbing things in my hubby’s garage… a box, a piece of wood, some cardboard, a little plastic tub and a tall stool… I’ll show you the set up in a minute, but here’s one of my pictures… I used my new “moss” and made it look like she was in the grass. Sorry, it was so windy I absolutely HAD to use this stand or she’d of blown over the minute I let go of her to hold my camera. Her hair was blowing all over the place as it was…I took 97 pictures and ended up with 25… Some of my pictures still have strands of hair in her face.
These were my blue skies… pretty huh?
This is what you saw in the pictures on Ebay…
In reality, this is what it looked like if you stepped back 6 feet…
Silly looking isn’t it? I had to have a clamp to hold my moss on the piece of wood and a heavy hammer on the other side. The wind was whipping up my moss and I was afraid it was going to throw Emmie off the board… I was a bit nervous…
I didn’t want to show all my Ebay pictures on here, like I usually do, so I took a few of her later on to show you more shots of her…it actually calmed down just a little bit and I took a few with her standing alone…no stand! Yikes!
It was pretty bright out so I had to find a place that was a little shaded but still had some light.. the bricks where I’ve taken pictures before, was just too bright…
So I moved to the fountain area in the courtyard… better…
…and one more…
Now… who wants to see the listing?
You can find it by clicking on the picture at the top right side bar… or click HERE.
I hope you enjoy my outside pictures…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
The whole outfit just came together beautifully, Jeanne! Love her hair bow, and her bouquet of flowers, too.
But, wow, the things we do to get a good picture, huh?! It was fun to see the set-up you arranged, in both the close and distant pictures!!
By the way, my doctor called this morning, and I do Not have another broken toe, so that was good news! My shoulder is still achy and sore, but improving–in response to a couple of comments on your last blog entry.
Charlotte, I am glad that your toe is not broken. I hope you have a gentle rest of the month.
Thanks Charlotte,
I’ve got to figure out something sort of like what I did, but just easier to set up… and not so rickety… it was a bit scary to put Emmie on there with the wind blowing like it was.
Good news on the “non-broken toe!”
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m up early today! There is a big storm outside, and tornado sirens are blaring! Our state, (Missouri) is in the crosshairs of a tornado, and it has hit the capital of the state, Jefferson City, so Michael and I are now in the basement. This is getting old!
Oh, that dress is just adorable, and I love how you turned it into a sweet jr. bridesmaid dress, without all the frills, ruffles and bows! My kind of a dress! Emmie is just adorable in it, and how fun to see how you set up the scene! I was thinking you might have included the gazebo in your pictures, and maybe you did, but they didn’t make the cut. It would have been pretty all decorated, ready for a wedding, but of course, the wind, and it might have been too much trouble for a background.
I love the sweet bow in Emmie’s hair, just the perfect touch! Jeanne, you never disappoint in the “extras”! Let’s just say, you never disappoint, period!!
So glad to hear your news, Charlotte! Keep healing!
HI Linda,
I just saw pictures of Jefferson City…what a mess… I hope you didn’t have too much damage to clean up this morning.
Thanks for your compliments on Emmie’s dress. I have to say, it is truly one of the sweetest sets I’ve ever made… it’s just adorable in person… and on her too.
I probably could have gotten a picture of the gazebo in the background but didn’t turn that direction…oh well, another time… :o)
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
The outfit is charming, but the photos almost outdo it. They are brilliant. Emmie could not look sweeter or cuter. I love it when the doll looks like a real live girl, and you’ve done it. Congratulations on a great job and on avoiding the worst of the storm.
Hi Marilyn,
If the wind hadn’t been blowing it truly would have been s perfect day…the sky was gorgeous.
Thank you for your kind words about Emmie…she is a very sweet little girl.
Blessings, Jeanne
Yes, there is much that goes into picture taking as you’ve shown us Jeanne. Your photos turned out beautifully and Emmie is just lovely, lovely, lovely in her ensemble. Thank you for the joy of seeing your creations another day….it’s always an honor.
Blessings.
Hi Becky,
Thank you so much. This wa a delightful dress set to make and the outside pictures were the icing on the cake as far as I was concerned. If it hadn’t been so windy I would have taken a few more different angles, but I just played it safe…and moved her arms and head mostly…
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
Your photos turned out fab! What a trooper little Emmie is to survive the wind and that precarious perch too. Very ingenious. 🙂 I love the last three photos. Couldn’t pick a favorite.
And now we have members reporting in at 3:46AM from the basement during a tornado! Oh, do hope it blows far away from you Linda. I can tell you, I won’t be posting during the next earthquake here. Hope you can update us later with news that everything is a-okay!
Happy Thursday!
Joy, we are fine, although we did have quite a morning! Looks like our state capital was really hit hard, but yes, this is getting tiresome having storm after storm!
So glad to hear you are okay. Never been in a tornado nor do I want to be. I’ll have to check the news.
Hi Joy,
Emmie wasnt nervous at all about being on top of that stack… me? Not so much…it was pretty precarious…
I noticed Linda’s time on her post before I read it and thought that was pretty early, even for her…then I read her comments…yikes!!
I do hope you never have to post during an earthquake!!!
Blessings, Jeanne
Wonderful pictures ! Emmie looks just beautiful in her dress! I like how you brought out her beautiful blue eyes with the beautiful blue sky behind her. Great pictures Jeanne.
We have arrived home again for the summer. I can’t wait to get unpacked and organized so I can get into my doll room. AND….. see my new Swifter redhead doll too!
Hi Paula,
Thank you for the compliments on Emmie and her new dress. The blue skies were the perfect backdrop!
Welcome home and give that little redhead an extra hug from me… :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
I looked at the auction posting yesterday and was trying to figure out how you did the set-up where it looks like Emmie is standing in the grass. David and I were discussing it and thought maybe you had her on a railing. I can’t wait to show him the actual set-up. He’ll love it. One of my problems with picture taking is I need more patience for the set-up and perhaps some ingenuity. I recently bought a winter backdrop for 18″ dolls. I actually like it better for my smaller dolls. So maybe there will be some winter pictures later this year – or early next. Little chance of getting any real snow pictures here.
I loved all the photos on ebay. I know this ensemble is going to sell quickly. Emmie is definitely the perfect model to sell this. She looks so sweet.
I’d forgotten Linda D. lives in Missouri. She is really in the cross-hairs. I was worried that you, Jeanne, might have had some really bad weather when I saw the news this morning. It looked like the whole area through Missouri and Illinois was in serious trouble. Prayers for everyone’s safety. We have no relatives left in Kansas, but I’ll be checking in with my farmers to see how things are going. I think mostly there’s been a lot of rain. Just pray we don’t have hail. The wheat is nearly ready for harvest and that would not be good.
Your yard is so perfect for picture taking. Mine not so much. I’d have to pack up and go to the park to get good pictures.
Hi Barbara,
I laughed at you and your hubby trying to figure out my set up…it was kind of strange to say the least… I need to figure out something better.
Maybe you could use your new backdrop for some Christmas in July pictures!!
Yes, the stormy weather missed us and went north…poor Linda and everyone else in its path.
Our grass is really green right now and the moss sheet works pretty well…I’m not so sure it’ll work when it comes July and August and the heat burns up the grass and it turns brown…
Thanks Barbara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, oh my goodness every picture you take of Emmie is sweeter than the one before. She is such a beautiful model. She seems to be saying, “Mama, pick me up.” I don’t know how she is going to part with that dress. She looks so divine in it.
Thanks for showing the “behind the scenes” photos. It helps me (as a budding photographer who still cuts off people’s – and dolls’ – heads) to envision how to set up a shot.
Hi Dorothy,
Emmie really is a very pretty girl…and this fabric was MADE for her. I’m going to hate taking it off her.
..probably as much as she’s going to hate taking it off.
I couldn’t resist my “behind the scenes” picture….it’s kind of like a magician giving away their secrets! : o)
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Poor Missouri! Glad you are safe Linda. So glad you have a basement to go to. More clean up ahead for Jefferson City!
Emmie is as cute as I’ve ever seen her. Do you ever send any pictures to Dianna Effner ?
She would love to see them. Kind of like seeing cute pictures of your kids.
The listing looks wonderful..just the right amount of close ups and your yard in the background looks like a park.
A top ten dress for sure!
Hi Kathie,
The storm went north of us and all we got was wind and rain. Poor Linda and all the Jeff City people…
When I first got Isabelle, I did send Dianna a few of my pictures of the dresses I made her. I did post a picture of Emmie in her new dress and a link to the Ebay listing on the Our Little Darlings doll forum. Thanks for all your compliments!
Blessings, Jeanne
Yay for uninterrupted sewing time! I hope to have some soon, but we’ll see how things work out. Oh my, I’m impressed with the photo of Emmie standing in the “grass”. That’s a smart solution. Your doll photos are always beautiful, but this is really nice. I can’t tell it was windy. It’s been very windy here; I had to stop and get gas, and my hair was blowing all over my face. One good thing about the wind, is that it doesn’t feel so hot. Low 90’s today.
Hi Carolyn,
I enjoyed my day of sewing…not any today, but it was nice while it lasted…I hope you find some sewing time for yourself.
I don’t think it got up to 90 today…but I think maybe 86….it was hot enough.
I think summer has begun!!!
Thanks Carolyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Emmie is just adorable in her sweet, little dress That fabric is definitely one of my favorites!
You certainly have to think of ingenious ways to take pictures, but they all turned out so well. We’re having blue skies today here in Ohio, too.
So glad you are safe, Linda. I’ve been thinking about you, but haven’t been on as much of late, too many family responsibilities I hope you haven’t sustained any storm damage. I do recall many weeks as a child that the tornado siren went off every night it seemed and “living” in the basement does get old very fast. I recall eating dinner and doing homework there. You are a trouper to post from the basement, but I guess it passes the time.
This has been a strange spring so far. We fluctuate from the 40s into the 80s and the farmers haven’t been able to get their crops planted yet. To get a harvest they have to be in by June 5th.
Thank you Laura,
The fabric has become one of MY favorites too… I just wonder how many different dresses I could make out of it… all differently styled? I only have 1/2 yard…that’s all they had at the antique store I got it at… but the next time I go by there, I’m definitely stopping.
It’s been too wet here for farmers to get their crops out… it has been strange weather for everyone it seems. I like it when it’s in the 70’s with just a slight breeze…my favorite weather! :o)
Thanks for checking in Laura…and thanks for the name for Emmie’s dress…
Blessings, Jeanne
