If you like blog posts about home decorating and challenging projects, you will MOST definitely enjoy this post from Victoria Elizabeth Barnes. My sister, Cindy, sent it to me and I was laughing and almost crying as I read through it.
Sometimes I see things like this at yard sales or along the road… (well, not quite this big along the road) and my hubby turns to me and says, “Do you want to stop?” But of course! We just did it the other day when I spotted this really ornate looking table along the side of the road by someone’s driveway. He passed it, but then I think he realized he was supposed to ask me if I wanted to take a look at it. He turned around and I hopped out and looked at it. I think it was an Indian coffee table. It was beautifully carved in the front but the actual top was like an inlaid marble or fake marble. One of the legs was missing so it was kind of laying over on its side. I thought, “bummer” but then I spotted the 4th leg underneath. I tried to tip it forward and I couldn’t budge it. It was VERY VERY heavy and I realized we would never be able to get it in the car by ourselves. So I got in the car and said, “It’s kind of an interesting piece, but I really don’t need it. I need to finish my kitchen cabinets and that claw toed table upstairs, and blah, blah, blah.”
I would like to have just pulled Victoria’s post up so you could see the whole thing as soon as you saw my page, but instead you’ll have to click a link. I don’t think it will be too much trouble.
Victoria has quite her own style of writing and it’s very entertaining. She likes LARGE things and if you read this one and enjoy it, you’ll have to read her post on the Kingdom Mirror she found on Craigslist. It’s a riot!
If you click the link below, you can get started laughing!

Blessings to you on this Saturday!
See you Monday,

That is just Too funny! I’m sure my husband would be really glad (if he read this) that all I buy is fabric and dolls!! (Because I KNOW there is not a big enough wall in my house for that thing!! LOL)
HI Charlotte,
I haven’t shown this to my hubby yet… he’d probably be on the man’s side! I’m sure he would. Then the next time I spied something by the side of the road, he’d give me that look!
:o)
Thanks Charlotte,
blessings, Jeanne
Ha ha ha! I looked at the headboard being lifted to the roof and into the house first. That was funny in itself. And then the Eastlake piece. A lovely piece if your home provides large walls to accommodate. Really too bad it didn’t fit in the kitchen, but leaving out the center to allow for the window was a great compromise. Thanks for sharing.
Your table by the side of the road reminds me of our dumpster diving days. Immediately made me wonder that if the marble piece was removed it shouldn’t weigh as much. 🙂 I wonder if it is still there?
We’re in the market for a new mattress. Has to be natural latex with no off gassing etc. Other person likes Casper and me Avocado Green. Anyone bought one lately and have a recommendation? Definitely not something you’d find by the side of the road. 🙂
Have a fun weekend.
HI Joy,
That was quite a job doing all that wasn’t it? I don’t know very many hubby’s who would put up with that, but I think it’s her business, so he goes along with her. But it’s a LOT more work doing that than just saying to my hubby, can you hold Reuben on your lap so I can use his picture for my blog, or can you cut these pegs off so I can make a dolly bed and show it on my blog… :o)
We used to go Dumpster Diving all the time and LOVED it! Things were different though in the 80’s…not so dangerous as it is now… you never know what you might find nowadays!
The table at the side of the road stayed there about 2 days and then one day it was gone…
I don’t know anything about those 2 mattresses you mentioned….except I heard Casper was a good brand.
I worked on Patsy’s set today and thought maybe I might get it listed, but alas…no!
Thanks Joy, We got poured on most of the day, and kept watching for leaks in our ceilings… so far nothing.
Thanks again,
Blessings, Jeanne
That was funny reading about Victoria trying to get her husband to get the furniture apart to get into her house! Something I could never get Michael to do, but by looking at the pictures of her husband, he looks a lot younger then mine!
But at the same time, I could never picture something like that in my smallish, suburban house! Actually, I don’t really like things like that, it just creeps me out to have something like that in a house! We do have beautiful old fashioned houses, mansions, really, in St. Louis, built around the time of the 1904 World’s Fair. My heavens, such huge homes, with high ceilings, carved dark woodwork, stained glass windows, and on and on. They have house tours of these homes, and try as I might, I could never imagine myself living in those houses! You had to have maids and such to cook, clean, answer the door, among other things. Who can afford that now? And dark woodwork is kind of like a haunted house would have, at least for me!
I wonder what that piece actually is, where they have that tiny sink in the middle? Seems like it would be for children to use, but then again , the mirrored side pieces don’t look like something for a child’s room.
I do think if she is going after things like that, she needs a new house, rather an old house! Thanks for the funny start to our day!
HI Linda,
I just told George about the post I shared today and he said he’d look at it later. I don’t think I could get him to do that either… Michael isn’t alone!
I know what would come out of my hubby’s mouth first…” Are you going to paint it?” He loves natural wood and I do too, but I also love how painting it makes the details pop!
I think she needs a big mansion so she can put all her projects in different rooms. Maybe just have one room for “collectables” and such! :o)
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my goodness, that was so funny! I do like her writing style.
Hmmm, I wonder if she would allow folks to “visit” her finds. She could charge admission, like an amusement park does. Oh yes, and that could fund her next acquisition. I think she is here in PA. Let me see if I can find her on Craigslist.
HI Dorothy,
I’m glad you enjoyed the post today…even though it wasn’t mine. She is hilarious in many of her stories. I think the Kingdom Mirror and now this one are my favorites. I love a good story teller! :o)
If you can’t find her on Craigslist at least find her something to buy! :o)
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, what an amazing piece. I could fit that on the family room wall. I actually like Eastlake, just not on quite so grand a scale. I have a lovely glass door Eastlake bookcase with carvings and the extra backpiece. The glass is the old wavy glass and the key to lock it had not been lost when we bought it many, many years ago. I also have a Victorian hall tree. I really like those old carved period pieces as well as the old furniture painted with flowers or inlaid with flower designs.. A Victorian Gothic style house is something I love… that kind with the curved church style windows and I adore gingerbread.
I’m a firm believer that just because your house might not be your ideal on the outside, you can certainly choose furniture and decor to make it your ideal on the inside.
HI Laura,
Well, if she ever sells it, you can be first in line to get it since you have room for it… :o)
Swoon… I love wavy glass!
We are out of room for more antiques, but I LOVE looking at them… fancy, plain, and everything in between.
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
It sure was fun to see the dismantling and renovation of the piece to fit Victoria’s home. I’m with her on the excitement of finding such a piece of furniture. I think the sink in the middle may indicate it was used as a bar. Thanks for the tip about her website. Funny Lady.
HI Susette,
I’m glad you got a chuckle out of Victoria’s blog post. I thought it was too good to pass up. It would have been better if I had used in right in the middle of my kitchen remodel!
I should ask Cindy about what that piece actually was used for. I’m sure she’d know!
Blessings, Jeanne
Well, that was wonderful. Her husband has known her for some time, so he must know what to expect from her and be accustomed to her choices. He seems mostly upset that he didn’t bring the right tools. Do make sure George sees this.
We’re still working on the computer — most of it sometimes works.
HI Marilyn,
Yes, when your spouse can recognize your “Craigslist footsteps” they know you pretty well!
I am going to make sure George sees this. I’d like to get his perspective. I do have a picture upstairs that is huge… a big floral thing. It was going to be taken to the dump and I said, “Oh, I’ll take it…” I was remembering the Kingdom Mirror post when I saw it, and thought I could always use the frame for a big mirror, but my hubby said it would cost a fortune to get a mirror cut that size. He’s probably right, so it sits upstairs.
I hope your computer continues to be “good!”
Blessings, Jeanne
