I was typing my title and put Coral “Charades” EEK! Another time, another dress! :o)
As I promised, I wanted to show you this coral/watermelon colored dress on Nellie. I told someone in my comments, I think this fabric is one of those that can be worn by just about anyone; any skin tone and any color hair. See what you think…some of the pictures are without the sash so you can see the waist a little better.
Isn’t Nellie adorable? I’m so glad she’s in my collection!
Well, that’s it…short and sweet today! I did get Patsy’s dress cut out but that will have to wait until I get something done on it.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Definitely add a Nellie photo in this dress to your listing. She looks darling in it!
Hi Christal,
I might have to see if I can figure out how to add a few pictures in the listing. I tried once before and messed up my auction, so I’m a little gun shy…
Thanks Christal,
Blessings, Jeanne
That really is a good color on Nellie!
I remember years ago, reading in a book on color and line, that there were a few colors that actually just about anyone could wear, and “watermelon pink” was one of them! So, showing the dress on 2 or 3 dolls might be a good idea, in this case!
Thanks for all the nice comments and prayers on my behalf. I’ll be having an orthopedic consult on the 13th. My shoulder is letting me know if I do something it doesn’t like, so I’m trying to be careful!!
Hi Charlotte,
Look, I like that name best…”watermelon pink” and I bet the book was right…it does look good on everyone.
Be extra careful so your dolly’s don’t have to wait too long for their dresses!!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, Nellie looks just adorable in Samantha’s dress, Jeanne! I think that she thinks to herself, “This is MY dress”! You had better keep an eye on those two! Yes, the color does go well with both light and dark haired dolls, and I love the way the bow also can be worn with a side part. The dress looks just as cute without the ribbon, but I think the bow dresses it up, and gives it a more youthful vibe for a girl, like Nellie and Samantha. Just darling!
I was going to say that although that color is very becoming on so many different dolls, it might make an older doll with faded coloring look washed out. I do see dolls that are like that, mainly older Pleasant Company dolls. But I do think it would be a good idea to put Nellie’s picture in the listing, unless it is too late for that.
I am more than ready for a warm up here! We never got out of the teens yesterday! surely the sun is giving off heat SOMEWHERE, just not here!
Hi Linda,
I think Nellie looks pretty cute in the dress too, and I think the color looks really nice on her too. I’m glad you like it…
I’m going to see if I can put a picture or two of Nellie in the listing…maybe I can preview it before I actually hit the save revision button.
We have the sun shining but the windchill is still only 14 degrees.
Thanks,
Blessings, Jeanne
Nellie is so very charming in this dress. She is a beauty, isn’t she?
I really like how you’ve got the skirt made…a bit full to help draw down the eyes after those puffy sleeves. It works so nicely together with those lovely ivory colored pieces of lace and sash which I assume matches the light color in the “watermelon/coral” fabric. So charming.
I’m glad the sun has been shining more recently, despite the never-ending-feeling of winter chill and arctic blasts. It seems like we’ve gotten more than our share of it this winter. Your beautiful outfits give us a wonderful chance to balance out the white and cold we’ve experienced. Thank you so much, Jeanne. I appreciate you greatly and look forward to many more of your beautiful creations as the days continue.
Hi Becky,
Yes, Nellie is a real beauty. She has such a sweet face.
I love how circle skirts hang in folds as they come over the hips. I think they are so flattering.
It does seem like this winter has given us a lot of snow and ice. Thank you for your sweet compliments about my dresses being something to give balance of it all. When life gives you snow…stay inside and sew!! :o)
Blessings to you Becky,
~ Jeanne
Good idea to put it on Nellie…she looks pleased as punch in it too!I think Charlotte is right…that color is pretty on everyone.
Hope it does well for you! Today is baking day because we are getting company coming for a funeral. At least they will have some yummy things to snack on while here.
Keep warm!
Hi Kathie,
What are you baking today? One of your pretty pies? I saw one on Facebook that was beautiful
I should have commented on it!!
I’m trying to stay warm, but this windchill is making it very difficult!
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Nellie is adorable. She can definitely wear that color. I’m one of those who cannot. I must be the older doll with faded coloring that Linda mentioned. 🙂
The weather will decide what we do today. Prune more bushes or run errands.
Keep warm and dry everyone.
Hi Joy,
You ARE NOT one of those who is faded out…
You’ve sent me a picture and you are very pretty. Put on more blush! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, Joy, how funny you are! I think most of us are on the “faded “ side too!
Oh Linda!!
Oh, Jeanne!!!!
I love this dress on Nellie and the arrangement of the hairbow is very nice. While I like the blow at the waist, since I really like bows, it was nice to see the actual waistline treatment. One thing about the “Gibson Girl” look is that it always made the women look like they had tiny waists. I know the younger women probably did, but I’m sure the more matronly did not, but they still looked like they did. Maybe we can bring the style back.
I saw yesterday where Carolyn was talking about the weather in south Texas. Where? All of Texas is finally getting some winter weather now that we are looking forward to the arrival of spring. It was 30 when I got up this morning and my hubby says it was 28 when he got up. Haven’t looked recently, but it is windy outside so, while the sun is out, I’m sure the air temperature hasn’t changed much. Sunny and cold. I can live with that.
Hi Bsrbara,
I have studied the style of the Gibson Girl dresses and the illustrations are so hard to understand…from a seamstresses perspective. It looks like the dresses are stuffed in the front.
Maybe Carolyn will mention where she lives in TX. I’m not sure… It seems we are all getting some kind of weather to talk about doesn’t it?
Thank you,
Blessings, Jeanne
I was at a costume convention and saw an odd piece made of lightweight metal. It looked like a too long necklace with an elongated triangle of large mesh suspended from it. The triangle was quite large and the lower edge was rounded. The costume historian held it up to herself, showing how she had tried to make it fit somewhere. She finally figured it out — it was worn under a Gibson Girl blouse to keep the bloused-out part between the bust and waist hanging neatly. I don’t think this was an invention that “took” since none of us had ever seen one and if they’d been common, all of us would have known it.
