Something for snow lovers AND Valentine’s Day lovers!

I received a few pictures from some of my readers and thought I’d share them today. It’s supposed to be super cold the next few days and in the morning it’s supposed to be below zero. Brrr… speaking of cold weather, when the snow fell in St. Louis last week or the week before, Linda sneaked outside and placed Scarlett in her snow suit and on her ski’s. I thought it was cute… Linda said she checked to make sure none of her neighbors were watching… she said she had never taken one of her dolls outside for pictures… :o)

Here’s Scarlett…

…and here’s Susan, Molly and Ruthie in their adorable snow suits!

Kathie sent me some Valentine pictures of her girls. They are beside the Valentine tree. She told me Charlotte Trayer made the flannel nightgown and it was her Swap gift to Kathie for Christmas. Thanks for the pictures Kathie… now we all should be in a Valentine mood after all that pink! :o)

Thanks ladies… I’m cleaning in my sewing room, and it’s a disaster… so these pictures saved the day for me!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

    What a fun post!!!

Linda, your Scarlett looks adorable out in the snow like that!! Good for you, for getting her out there and taking that picture! (You need to hang out with my friend Marika and me–we take our dolls to lunch with us!!! We have also taken them to the beach to take pictures! We no longer worry about what anyone thinks!!)

Susan, Molly and Ruthie look adorable in their snowsuits, too! I actually have Molly’s red snowsuit, and I think I have one like Susan’s, also! I need to get my girls dressed up and pose them again…but, alas, we have NO SNOW!! (Seattle area)

How lovely to see Kathie’s girls, and her beautiful Valentine tree! I love that idea!! And what a surprise to see one of her girls in the nightgown I made! I’m glad you like it.

Finally, thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes on yesterday’s post. (I am usually on of the first to post, so I like to go back later and see what everyone has written. Often others spot details I have missed.) That was a lovely surprise, added to a very nice birthday all around!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you enjoyed today’s post. It was colorful and had lots of details for everyone to look at.
I say dress up your girls in their snow suits and stand them up on some batting!!! Pretend!!!
Glad you had a nice birthday…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a cute……….and surprise post today, Jeanne! I was kind of surprised to see my dolls but thank you for showing them, and thank you to Charlotte for the compliments! I do think that first picture looks overexposed, but it was a bright day, and with the snow, I tried to edit it, but to no avail, but Scarlett just loved her ski “trip”! My other girls were slightly jealous that they had to stay in, so I tried to fix up a winter wonderland inside for them, and they seemed to like it, and even built a snowman!! LOL!

Oh, Charlotte, you take your dolls to lunch? I have no friends that collect dolls, and even my granddaughters have outgrown dolls, so it’s just me, myself and I, and I’m not going anywhere myself with a doll!! LOL

Kathie’s dolls are darling, and why not, since they are called Little Darlings! That tree is a cute idea! I remember at Christmas time, Hobby Lobby had trees of every color, but they are not out now, so I missed that opportunity. Your dolls are dressed so well, and have the cutest faces! I see that you have all three molds of LD dolls. That’s a sweet little nightgown, and to think Charlotte made it! Lucky you!

Although I would love to stay in today, we have to go out to an eye dr. appointment, so I had better bundle up! Tomorrow will be even worse, yikes! This will certainly be a winter to remember!!

    Stay warm, Jeanne and everyone!

    1. Hi Linda,
A happy, very cold day to you!!! George had a dental appointment but I stayed inside where it was warm!
I love seeing Scarlett on her skis in the snow.

I always feel a little strange taking my dolls outside….and I live in the country! I need to be more bold like Charlotte!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What a wonderful post! The picture of Scarlett skiing is great and shows up fine on my laptop. Just tip the screen until you like what you see from a lighting standpoint. Love all the details in Linda’s pictures: The tiny snowman, the hats on the dogs and Betsy is just the right size to be the little sister. Kathie’s dolls are truly Little Darlings. How sweet to have the nightgown made by Charlotte. The tree is such a great idea. Thanks for sharing the pictures for the post.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm and at home during the terrible cold you will be experiencing in the Midwest. I visited the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden in Pasadena (japanesegardenpasadena.com) on Sunday where my daughter-in-law was demonstrating Chinese Brush Painting and exhibiting her paintings. It was 70 degrees but there was snow on the mountain in the background. I do wish we had more varied weather where I live a few miles back from the Pacific Coast. We get excited when it rains a few times a year.

    1. Hi Susette,
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures today… you probably liked seeing the snow pictures. When was the last time you had snow in CA, where you live? Or have you “ever” had snow?

We’re supposed to really be in the deep freeze tomorrow. The high temperature is supposed to only be 10 degrees! Yikes…that’s cold…

      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I loved seeing Linda’s Scarlett zooming down the bunny hill! Snow photos can be difficult with all of the reflective lighting, but this one is great. And those AG snow outfits are so fun. I see little Betsy is sporting a Wellie outfit. We have that one too. I do believe that we are long lost Missouri cousins. I too look over my shoulder when I lug my dollies outside for a photo. If we were closer, we could take the group to that beautiful botanical garden in St. Louis for a photo shoot. We would have Charlotte fly in from the northwest for moral support. 🙂
Kathie’s Valentine tree with the so well dressed LD’s is beautiful. My kids peeked over my shoulder and now they want a pink tree too. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for one next year.
Hope everyone stays warm in the Ice Age.

    1. Hi Joy,
I have one of those snow suit patterns from So Adorable patterns, but I’ve never used it…I should have made something this year and taken outside pictures. (With Charlotte coaching me on that is!)
Thanks Joy…. how is Conrad today?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Thanks for the nice comments on the Valentine tree. It’s an Angel tree at Christmas in my 1950 pink bathroom with Margaret Furlong Angels on it…and my Granddaughter loves it with hearts on it so it stays up for awhile.
The current pink dress you made would be so cute with it! ? The headband and the felt purse are perfect with it.
Charlottes nightgown looks so cozy…gottakeep warm this week! I got out my own big flannel nite gown this week!
    Stay warm!

    1. Hi Kathie
Thank YOU for the fun pictures of your girls all dressed up for Valentine’s day! They were so cute.
We just had a friend drive to Omaha last week but I haven’t talked to her about the weather…I saw on the news that it was pretty awful there.
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I do wish we all lived closer. Then we could do dolly teas, luncheons and photo shoots. I would love to share some of my clothing endeavors rather than just having them sit on a shelf day after day. Why make a “tea” dress when there is no tea to go to. Sadly my seven year old granddaughter is not much into dolls or we could have a dolly tea party.

I don’t know how old everyone is (I just had my 72nd birthday), but once you have gray hair I think you can get away with anything. They think we’re in our dotage anyway. I live on a corner and my property is very exposed so I’m a bit self-conscious to take my dolls on outings. Guess I’ll have to take my own advice and just go for it. Unfortunately there will be no snow pictures here, especially this year. It’s rain, rain, rain. But then I do have patterns for raincoats, boots, etc., so maybe I’ll go for that. When I was reorganizing my Christmas things I found a bag of “snow”. I bought it for my village but then decided I didn’t want to have to clean it up. I thought maybe next year I’d spread it on my worktable and take some pictures of my dolls doing snow angels. Afterward I can just brush it off into a container. But first I need to make some snowsuits. They’re in short supply around here.

Linda, I love your pictures. Dolly skis. I’ve never seen them. Scarlett looks like she’s quite the expert. Don’t want to go into my experience with snow skiing. It was on my honeymoon 39 years ago. Haven’t been since. Let’s just say I’m much better at water skiing.

Kathie, I love your Valentine tree. I decorate for Christmas, Easter and Halloween. I need to think more about adding Valentines Day.

Jeanne, I giggled a bit when I read your reply to my last comment. In addition to my passion for sewing and music, I also love to write. Something you said or did reminds me of something and then I think of something else and then after I post my comment, I realize it’s a bit longer than I intended. When I am commenting on something online I always exceed the amount of characters allowed. I have to write it on my Word so I get a character count, edit it until it works and then copy and paste it. I do have two books nearly finished, but life intervened and I haven’t got back to them. Maybe someday.

I’m smiling at your cleaning your sewing room. There is definitely something therapeutic about it. I’m down to the last part. I got the big stuff done and then I just went around the room and gathered up all the little things that got put here and there and put it all on my worktable. I will find homes for all these little things one way or the other, hopefully by the end of the day.

I got a surprise the other day when I was cleaning one of my cabinets. I found a bag that I had no clue what was in it. When I opened it there was a stack of straw hats of every color, for 18″ dolls. I bought them back when I was planning to sell doll clothes – before I heard more than once from mothers that their daughter needed clothes more than her doll did. I remember the days I felt like that, but it stifled my creativity somewhat.

I love seeing everyone’s pictures and it does give you a little downtime.

    1. Hi Barbara,
It really would be fun if we all lived closer together, but none of us would probably get anything done because we’d all be having too much fun with outdoor dolly shoots and tea times with our girls!!
I’m still working in my sewing room..
I exchanged places for a cabinet and a shelf so I’m trying to get things finished up…but every time I open up a drawer I think, well, I better weed this out too. Its taking time but sometime soon, I hope to be done. I don’t think I ever showed a picture of my room after I got things weeded out and that was probably 2 years ago. Yikes!!
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Charlotte Trayer

Barbara, I just turned 73 (on Monday), so we’re pretty much the same generation. Still waiting for gray hair, though! I started with white-blonde hair, and it’s gradually gotten darker, and is now a dark blonde or maybe light brown. My dad had a cousin who lived to be older than I am and she never went gray, so I guess I got some good genes!

So….I tell my son I can’t blame him for gray hair, but he’s responsible for at least half the wrinkles on my face! LOL

  7. I enjoyed reading everyone’s messages. What wonderful ladies you all are. It’s nice to hear about things you do whether it’s about sewing, dolls or everyday events and plans or stories of old. Jeanne has given us all an outlet to visit in one way or another.
It’s always a fun pleasure to see pictures of the various dolls and scenes the girls send in.
Barbara it would be neat if we all lived a bit closer for doll teas etc. I seldom run into anyone who collects dolls so it’s nice to hear and see Jeanne outfits and her stories as well as the gals who write in. Thank you everyone !

    1. Thanks Paula,
I too, enjoy hearing from everyone…all about their dolls, their weather, their hobbies, their advice on things, what’s going on in their lives, where they’ve been, …it’s a way for all of us to see and hear about things we never would have otherwise known about.
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Dear Jeanne, what great photos – from snow to Valentine’s Day. All of the dolls are adorable.

I hear what folks are saying about not having close dolly friends. It is great when you can share your love of dolls with another person. There are United Federation of Doll Club (UFDC) chapters throughout the country. Perhaps there is one nearby. If not, you can get in touch with the regional director (that’s all on the website) and see if there is interest in your area. Maybe you can start a club!

As for taking photos of dolls in public, I say go for it. If anyone says anything, you can just say that you are a doll photographer (which in fact you are).

    1. Hi Dorothy,
Before I started this blog I never knew there were so many people out there who collected dolls and took pictures of them and redressed them and loved to chat with other ladies about their girls. Wouldn’t it be sad to have your dolls and dress them up and have no one to share them with or have others see them…

I’m glad you mentioned that part about being a “doll photographer!” I never thought of it that way!!
      Thanks, Dorothy,
      Blessings ,Jeanne

    2. Dorothy is right…There are UFDC Clubs all over ! if you go to their website there are lots of ways to see wonderful Dolls. They are located in Kansas City MO right near the interstate and have a wonderful Museum and welcome visitors year round.

  9. Always fun to see other friends doll pictures. Linda, you girls look lovely and weather appropriate as always. I had to laugh when you said you checked to see if your neighbors were watching It’s funny that we feel self conscious about our dolls. I though about bringing a doll for scale reference before one of our antique stores closed recently, but decided against it. Your snow scene is adorable. I love that even the furbabies are bundled up against the cold with hats.
Kathie, your dolls look so sweet in their Valentine finery. The red gingham dress is darling. I love your bright pink tree covered in hearts.
We’re getting to negative 3 tonight, but the worst thing is the high winds that are coming through. Stay warm, everyone. I’m going to be snuggling under fur, the kind that purrs. 🙂

    1. HI Laura,
I wish I had a kitty to snuggle up with… there’s nothing quite as sweet as that. We’re supposed to get the super cold weather tonight and tomorrow… 12 for a high tomorrow. Brrrr…that’s too cold for me.
I’m glad you liked the pictures today. I enjoy seeing what dolls are wearing everywhere.
I sent you an email… (well, I thought I did) but I can’t find it now… it was about a Caroline doll… I wanted your opinion. Maybe I’ll try again…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
