I’m sorry I didn’t get to answer your comments yesterday. I did read them when I had a few free moments. We worked at “the house” for our friend and got home too late. We finished… and she said I could share pictures with you so that will be coming soon.
I actually did something to my lower back when I was up hanging the curtains and the pain is running down the front of my thigh and down my sciatica (I think) in the back. It’s kind of limited me to standing… so I’m going to have to do something quick for a post. Poor Molly is just as she was last night.. dreaming of the skirt for her dress. Hang on sweet one… I’ll be back to it hopefully tomorrow!
Marilyn was playing super sleuth on Ebay yesterday and discovered one of my older dresses being sold by the seller. It was on an Ann Estelle doll and the doll and the dress set were being sold together. This is the link to the listing… you’ll have to click the little picture of it up in the left hand corner as it’s already sold. It’s the one with the buttons not the blue dress.
I made that back in June of 2014 and thought you might like to see my pictures of it when I listed it with Patsy modeling it. This was my story line and the title was called “Sewing Lessons!”
“Patsy wanted to learn how to sew today… and she wanted me to make her a dress so she could watch how I did it. I told her I started out making things for my Troll dolls when I was about 5 or 6. She said she could learn…So… we set off on this fun adventure.”
So what happened with Patsy and her first sewing lesson? This is what I wrote at the bottom of the listing!
“Okay, let’s get to Patsy’s sewing project: ”to make a dress for Trixilla…”
“I told her when you first start out, things don’t always look as nice as they do when you practice for years… so I just had her lay out her fabric and cut out two armholes… and then stitch up the back..
NOW… lest you thought my sewing projects were always the way they look now, I thought I’d share with you a few of my treasures that I’ve kept for 50+ years. YES, these are actual things I made when I was little. I made my troll clothes the same way I showed Patsy to do it. I think these were for Skipper and the one with the darts was when I was learning to make ”fitted” things for Barbie. Quite a stroll down memory lane for me!”
I think I’ve come a long way, baby!
Gotta get to bed… see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, dear, I do hope your back/leg will be better soon, Jeanne! Sciatic pain (that is, pain in the sciatic nerve) is never fun! Maybe the heating pad will help!
Patsy Tonner looks darling in that dress. I love the colorful buttons on the front, too–and Patsy’s efforts at making a dress for her troll!
Hi Charlotte,
I think I may have just pyahd myself the last few weeks. My lower back had been feeling a little weak but yesterday stretching up to the curtain rod was just too much…my back said enough!!
I’m just taking it easy today.
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Jeanne, sciatic pain is not fun at all! I know, because I had it too, and yes, a heating pad does help!
Patsy looks so cute in that cheerfully colored dress, with the multicolored buttons! And the hat is unmistakably a Jeanne Marie creation! That’s for sure!
Oh, how cute those little “dresses” were! Little did anyone know what would lie ahead! I vaguely remember sitting on my bed, when I was small, trying to figure out how to make a doll dress by hand! I never, ever made a dress for my dolls with a pattern, just figuring it out as I went, no worries about anything not fitting right! Those were the days!
Take care of yourself, Jeanne, and I hope you can get back to Molly soon!
Hi Linda,
I used heat last night…this morning I was using ice…
I’m so glad I saved some of my early doll clothes. I wish j had saved some of my own clothes… I made SO many things for myself when I was younger. I can’t even remember what was the last thing I sewed for myself.
I am taking it easy today…watching Sewing with Nancy for starters…it was on quilt bindings.
Thanks so much Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
You definitely have my sympathy on your sciatic pain. I’ve had that enough to know how it feels. I get it when I bend over and stand up continuously for awhile. Like when I’m doing my village and have to take things out of the box or put them back. Hence the reason it takes me so long to put up my village. I need to rest my sciatic nerve – a lot.
If I hadn’t just bought my Sofie I would have put in a bid for Patsy and her adorable outfit. Since Sofie only has two outfits to her name right now, I’m not sure she was ready for competition from another dolly sister, especially one the same size.
I can’t believe you still have outfits you sewed as a child. I made a lot of clothes for my dolls and loved to design them, but my mother never saved things so my first endeavors were either given away or thrown away. My sisters had the first Barbies. Once they outgrew them my mother gave them away. I’m actually the only one in my family who keeps things.
I know you’ve been busy but I was wondering if you had a chance to see what the Accuquilt Go Big is. Mine came yesterday. Today I will be spending my day reorganizing my sewing room so I can find a place for it. Actually excited about doing it. It needed some attention, since after my hubby made my cabinets I just put things where there was room without much attention to how, what or where. Just wanted to have access to the room again since I’d been out of there for several weeks.
Hope you get to feeling better soon. Sciatic problems can last forever it seems and show up when you least expect it. Really tiresome.
Hi Barbara,
I’m watching Fons and Porter now and they are discussing cutting out quilts. I bet they would love your Accuquilt Go Big cutter. I read about it and if you make quilts I bet you love it. I think my aunt Bonnie might have one…
I’ve made about 6 or 7 quilts but cut mine out the old fashioned way.
I wish my back would cooperate and let me work in my sewing room. Sitting is the worst but I could accomplish a lot just standing…
Thanks Barbara….have fun with your organizing.
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, the Sciatica rears it’s ugly head! Best lay on your back with a bent knee and pull one at a time across the chest to the opposite side. Stretches work. Doctor recommended. Other person does this every morning and it really helps. 🙂
New dolly is in the mail and hopefully arrives soon. 🙂
Get well soon.
Thanks Doc Joy…
I’ll give the stretches a try…
A new dolly???….we can’t wait to find out who she is…
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Ebay lets you save searches and will notify you when something of interest shows up, and I have a save on IDreamofJeanneMarie. I was so surprised to see a dress I wasn’t expecting. First I thought, “Hmmm. That looks like a Jeanne Marie hat.” Then I decided the buttons were right, then the pantalettes. It was the dressed-to-match troll doll that convinced me that it wasn’t a fake.
Today my house looks like your gazebo did the other day. It should stop by about 11, which is good since I have an appointment with the eye doctor at 1:00. It’s cold enough not to melt, but at least there shouldn’t be ice. For appointments, I prefer 50 degrees, but so much for me. At least I probably won’t be sitting in a roomful of people with flu.
The nerve pain sounds nasty. Keep an eye on the blog today for more advice while you sit or lie on the heating pad. I hate to say it because you want to be sewing, but what about lying on the couch while you watch a movie and the slow cooker makes dinner?
Hi Marilyn
You are too funny….”I” don’t even have a search for me!!! It was fun seeing it on Ann Estelle and I did remember the buyer.
Our snow us all gone but we are informed a few days of super cold temps the next few days. I’m staying put!
I HAVE been laying in George’s recliner with an ice pack watching TV. I learned about quilting and bindings.
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Good Morning Jeanne,
I’m so very sorry to hear your back is bothering you. I’m sure you already know what helps but it’s nice to hear what helps others. I love my heating pad and Ibuprofen for inflammation. I’m praying for you. I like Marilyn’s suggestion of dinner in the slow cooker and movies while relaxing on the sofa.
What a cute dress you made for Patsy and story to go with sweet as well. Hope the new owner enjoys their treasure.
Take care and get well soon!
Hugs
Ingrid
Thank you Ingrid,
I’m being a lazy girl today…just vegging out…
I’m going to try and get a soup or something like that in my crock pot….then more vegging.
Thanks for the compliments on Patsy’s dress and thanks for your prayers…
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, hello. I am so sorry you have sciatica. I have found that massage helps.
I love your first dolly clothes. You mean that’s not the best way to make a dress? That’s the level I am on (laugh).
We are marching toward the end of January. Wow, we just celebrated the new year.
Hi Dorothy,
Yes…apparently it’s my sciatica nerve that’s giving me grief. I’m hoping for a quick recovery…
I can’t believe its almost February either…my goodness…2019 is marching right along.
Well, we all have to start somewhere for sewing.
Thanks Dorothy
Blessings, Jeanne
