I can’t say things have slowed down any, but I’m getting things checked off my “to-do” list and in a few days it will all be forgotten… then I can get back to showing you dolly and sewing things.
I made over 125 chocolate chip cookies today for my favor bags… Not too exciting, but I can’t sew “all the time!” (unfortunately!)
Not a very good shot… but here they are…25 favor bags with cookies, mint cookie bark and some candy in them.
I wanted to show my angel tree topper in some better light this time. My other pictures were a bit vague. You can see her a little better in this picture.
Someone got a couple of new dolls a few days ago.. Joy received Yvette (Vette) and Haviland (Havi). They are both My Meadow dolls… in the Dumplings size (11″). Joy found their sweater (ornaments) at J.C. Penney’s and cut down the back and added snaps. (or will) Aren’t they adorable?
Okay, okay, so you want to see who gets the last dress of 2018?” I already had a pair of little red suede shoes so I decided I would make a teeny tiny dress for Navi. I would love to have made a Civil War dress or one for my Little Darlings, but this one would be the easiest to get finished and sell in time for Christmas. I only have the bodice finished but it won’t take long to get the rest done.
This was the tiniest sleeve I have ever put in… it’s tiny!
I may list it on the My Meadow Fan Club forum and not bother with Ebay… we’ll see…
Well, plodding along making progress every day… hope you are too!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
You cookies and goodie bags look wonderful, Jeanne!
I love your angel! Thanks so much for giving us an even better picture of her. She was pretty before, but now we can see some real details!! I’m thinking it might be a fun way to use some lovely piece of embroidery and a crocheted doily, at some point in the future. I enjoy making cloth dolls, so this is a bit of inspiration to me! I do have one cloth angel, purchased the year my mother died. It’s made of a piece of salvaged old quilt, all in pale blues (mom’s favorite color), and as soon as I saw it, it made me think of momma, and I had to have it! She’s all stuffed, though, and wouldn’t work on the top of a tree like yours does.
Congrats on your new additions, Joy! They are just as cute as can be! Somewhere I have some little sweater/ornaments from Michael’s a few years back, waiting to be made wearable (for my Little Darlings). I don’t think that’ll get done this Christmas but maybe by next year?
Well, of Course Navi had to have a Christmas dress to go with those red shoes!! (What little girl doesn’t love red shoes?!) My, that IS a tiny sleeve!! Can’t wait to see the rest of the dress!
My current project is pillowcases for the grands. I have all the cutting done, and some preliminary pressing and pinning; hope to sew tomorrow!
Thanks Charlotte,
I should have put a picture of the body of the angel too… silly me… then you could see how she looks under that sweet dress of hers.
Joy is certainly blessed to have 2 new dolls this close to Christmas, isn’t she? (Maybe she bought her OWN Christmas presents this year!) :o)
It certainly WAS a tiny sleeve and I have already gotten an email from someone wanting to know how to put in such a tiny one… I guess after you’ve put in as many sleeves as I have in my lifetime, size really doesn’t matter so much. It was a tiny bit tricky, though,.
Do you make your pillow cases using the Burrito way? Just wondering…
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
HI Jeanne, when I am making a lot of pillowcases for charity and want to get them done quickly, I use the burrito way. For these, I do it in such a way that the SAs of the cuff and trim are all enclosed, and the only SAs you see on the inside are those of the pillowcases themselves. It’s a little more time-consuming, but I like the results!
Yum, chocolate chip cookies! Who doesn’t love them at any old time of the year? That is the one cookie I make every year, and maybe a couple of others, but the chocolate chip cookies are the one that go fastest! Your snowflake covered bags look so festive with them all snuggled inside!
Oh, now I see the details of the beautiful angel, and yes, I do think she was once a pretty hankie! Thanks for that close up, Jeanne!
Oh, those Little Dumplings are just adorable, Joy! I love how you dressed them in their new sweaters, and I too, am finding more and more of the little sweaters in the ornament departments! I even found one that fits my Betsy McCall! The sleeves are the main problem with them, but I managed to stretch out the sleeves on one of them, and they fit now, but barely! My goodness, all that GREEN behind them—-it’s all brown here!
Navi will enjoy getting a pretty, new Christmas dress, well, posing for one! I do think posting them on the My Meadow site might work best for this. Not everybody has one of those dolls, and that site should have more of them.
Have a good day, Jeanne!
HI Linda,
I totally agree….what could be better than Chocolate Chip cookies. I’ve been making them for years and nobody’s ever complained that they were tired of them…
I think you are right about my angel being dressed in a hankie… I’ll try and show her body tomorrow… one of these days we’ll have all the parts of this angel tree topper covered.
I totally agree about the Dumplings being adorable… they are totally addicting… it’s a good thing I have no money… because I’d have one of each!
Navi is waiting patiently on her new couch for the rest of her dress. I hope I find some time today to get it finished…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
So many cookies!!! You are such a generous lady with your time..You must be itching to get back to those little girls waiting for you in the sewing room!
Navi looks so sweet.. such a tiny model 🙂 please offer her on the Meadow Fan Facebook page and save those eBay fees.., you will find a ready market there❤️
Thanks Shara,
I AM itching to get back to sewing….I’m much more organized with it than I am with all the stuff I have to gather up for this party. My house is a disaster…every tub is pulled out, every roll of wrapping paper seems to be on the table, etc…
Then Rebecca is in the middle of baking doggie biscuits.
I am going to offer her dress on the Fan Club…there’s not enough time for Ebay…
This time tomorrow night I just might be able to breathe!
Thanks Shara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, yummy cookies! Love how you have them in those festive bags.
And I love the dress color and design size on Navi. Shoes look so cute too. I also learned a new trick from you. Gather the sleeve top and sew to the bodice and then pull up the elastic on the bottom edge when ready to sew the side seam. I was wondering how to do that. Such a small little piece to work with. You are the master! 🙂
Havi & Vette are still waving this morning and are enjoying being the center of attention around here.
I’m sure you will collapse on Friday after all of the party prep. Are you making the main dish too or do you have some helpers?
HI Joy,
I wanted to tie pretty red bows on my treat bags but they came with little silver ties so I just used them…
Well good…I hadn’t really planned my picture about that but if you do leave the bottom edge and gather it up last, it really makes it easier to put the sleeve in.
I’m glad you are still crazy about your dolls… they must be fun to have around.
Yes, I’m looking forward to Friday…nuff said!!
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Those cookies are making me hungry. That’s a lot of baking, Jeanne! ‘‘Tis the time of year!
My niece told me she is making my absolute favorite cookie from one of our old recipes. Ginger snaps and they’re not crunchy but rather chewy. They are the best! The recipe is from an electrical store that sold appliances years ago in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They gave away these wonderful Christmas cookie booklets and the gingersnap recipe was in one of those recipe booklets.
Joy’s little girls are adorable. Love the sweaters. Joy, you are so resourceful.
Jeanne, the Christmas material for Navi’s dress is beautiful. I hope you have more of it next year so one of the AG can have an outfit in it. It’s just a gorgeous print.
Glad your buyer received the dress set too!
HI Paula,
It’s funny how we get hooked on favorite recipes and only those will do. Your chewy gingersnaps sound wonderful.
Rebecca is baking some peanut butter doggie biscuits and they smell divine…Reuben was the guinea pig and loving it!!
I don’t have but a few tiny slivers of the fabric for Navi”s dress…that’s why I picked her to use up the few pieces I did have of it. It is a very pretty fabric…bright, clearly printed and not too too Christmasy…
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, forgot to mention- I think for some odd reason I’m not getting your posts. I usually go in on your last post and go into “blog” in order to read your new post. Not sure if it’s on my end or yours.
HI Paula,
My sister in PA said she’s getting my posts late in the afternon so clearly something is going on.
I’ve got to find someone who can help me…
Thanks for letting me know, Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my, those cookies do look good. I think chocolate chip is on everyone’s favorite cookie list, and they are easy to make, so a hands-down winner for any party. Those doll sweaters are really adorable! That was such a good idea to adapt ornaments to fit the little dolls. Congratulations to Navi for getting the last holiday dress this year—that sleeve does look tiny!
HI Carolyn,
Yes, chocolate chip cookies seems to be a no brainer…most everyone loves them.
Navi is patiently waiting for me to work on her dress some more. Poor thing…
Thanks Carolyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Yum, chocolate chip cookies. I don’t bake as much as I used to when my kids were home. My son and daughter-in-law love to cook and bake, so I don’t need to do it for them. I really don’t need to eat the fruits of my labors so I just don’t do it. Too tempting. I’m so glad to see your angel close-up. She is totally precious.
Ornament sweaters for wearing attire! I never thought of that. Got to start looking. I have one that would fit my 8″ dolls right now. I like to think of ways to add to my dolls wardrobe but never came up with this one. I’ve taken preemie and 0 – 12 months onesies and made them into dresses for Build-a-Bear animals. I cut off the snap part and add a skirt and ribbons, bows, etc. They turn out really cute. I have a few to do right now – if I can ever get back to my sewing machine. I was going to make some of these leaving the snap part on for my grandkids, but two were boys and my daughter-in-law just preferred the onsies without all the bells and whistles.
Those “Dumpling” dolls are the cutest. And I like the size of them. I wouldn’t mind a Navi either. My list of dolly “wants” just keeps getting longer and longer. Navi’s new dress is going to be lovely. I really like the fabric.
I’m having the same problem as Paula with not getting your posts or they show up a day late. But I’m doing okay going into a previous post and pulling up the current one, so on my part you can put that at the bottom of your to-do list.
HI Barbara,
I was pretty proud of myself for baking all those cookies and I never took one bite of the dough…not one taste…and when they were all done, I let myself have two!!
I’ll have to maybe show my Bitty Beth any doll in an ornament sweater… there just might be a run on ornament sweaters… :o)
My dolly list is long too, like yours, but we can at least dream about getting new dolls!!
Thanks Barbara…
Sorry about the post issues tou,are having. I’m going to get this figured out one of these days.
~ Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, what cute little dollies! They look so festive.
Navi’s outfit is going to be adorable. How do you manage to make such teeny tiny dresses? It’s amazing. She definitely is working the sofa. It was made for her.
HI Dorothy,
Thanks so much for your sweet comments about Navi. She really is such a little cutie and yes, she DOES love her new comfy couch.
Blessings, Jeanne
I think chocolate chip cookies are a year round favorite. My grandmother started baking her Christmas cookies the day after Thanksgiving. She made all of our German favorite- linzertorchen, spitzbuben, stollen (my grandfather loved this), spritz, almond crescents, hazelnut crescents, lebkuchen, pfeffernusse- but, she always made a batch of chocolate chip fro those who didn’t like the others. It was the only time of the year I didn’t eat chocolate chip because I loved and still do all the German cookies Then there were bars of Niederegger marzipan (the ONLY kind as far as I am concerned) .
Your angel tree topper is really sweet. i think most of us have a special tree topper. Mine is the German wax and stiff glittered paper one my parents used for their first Christmas. Her face and arms are wax and she holds a violin. She’s 56 years old this Christmas. I love seeing all the special German wooden ornaments that were my grandparents come out of the bookcase cabinet. They bring back such happy memories of going there for Christmas and the nativity set that I remember playing with and rearranging as a child.
What sweet new dolls you have, Joy. The sweater ornaments were perfectly. They both look so happy to have joined your doll family.
Navi’s new dress is really cute. I can see why you went with something small and easily finished. That fabric is gorgeous. I love gilded fabric for little girl dresses and dolls can wear them forever. That means a Civil War dress will be the first dress of the new year, right? 😉
HI Laura
Wow…that’s quite a lust of German cookies…your grandmother must have been a wonderful baker.
Your Christmas traditions put me to shame…how nice to set up and bring out old family favorites…
Well, I’m certainly in favor of that Civil War dress…so maybe it will be!! Thanks for being my favorite Civil War fan!!!
Blessings, Jeanne
