I worked like crazy this evening to get Navi’s Christmas dress set finished. You’ll be happy to know I DID finish it… her set includes the sweet but simple dress, a fun lacy slip, her red Ultrasuede shoes and a clip on hair bow…AND it’s almost Christmas, so Navi wanted to send the winner some candy…Turtles!
Navi is an adorable 6″ Twinkles doll by My Meadow Dolls. She is pretty new to my doll collection and she ended up winning my heart for the last dress of the year.
Since it’s so close to Christmas, I’m going to list it on the Meadow Dolls Fan Club site…that’s a doll forum specifically for those who have the My Meadow dolls. Hopefully someone will snap it up and I can ship it right away. I’m selling this set for $59 with FREE shipping to the lower 48 United States.

What a perfect little dress for Navi! I’m glad you kept it simple, because too many details could easily overwhelm her. I love her little hairbow and her petticoat–and of coruse, what girl doesn’t love red shoes?! I agree with her on the choice of Turtles for the treat!!
I see she insisted on at least one pose on her new couch, too!! 😉
I’ve been sewing like crazy, too–pillowcase for the grands, nothing as fun as a dolly dress!

I like “simple” most of the time more than fancy…as long as you have nice fabric and one or 2 pretty details, it works.

I think every year I’m going to get more done and every year I don’t. If I was smart, I’d start working on Easter dresses right now… but I love Valentines dresses in between there.
I discovered if I used that super thin microcheck fabric on the bottom of the shoes, and wrapped it up on the sides, it made the bottoms of the shoes look much nicer and finished off.

Aw, so cute! Love Navi’s red wig and her new outfit as well. Did you run the slip lace up and down? Something is different and it is a very cute shabby chic look. This is a sweet dress that can be for the holidays and into the New Year and beyond as well.

The slip is made from some lace I found at Hobby Lobby. It’s like little strips of lace all sewn on a band. I thought it might make cute tiny slips and I believe it does!!
I’m glad to be finished with most of my Christmas commitments…I still have to bake some cookies and put them in little bags to attach to mommas cards for the other tenants at Liberty. I did sign her cards for her yesterday and she stuffed the cards into the envelopes. Well put them together and pass them out next week hopefully.

After seeing the gorgeous Christmas dresses you’ve done, I can’t wait for Easter. Hope you do at least one for that. That’s my favorite season to sew for. When the season arrives, I’ll take a picture of my dolls in their Easter attire. I probably need to do a few more outfits so no one feels left out. I love Navi’s dress. To say it’s precious is an understatement. I love red shoes too. All my dolly children have a pair – well some share.
You have certainly achieved more sewing this season than I have. Not a Christmas dress in sight. Oh well, there’s always next year. My sewing at the moment involves hemming two pairs of pants for my hubby. Definitely a labor of love since it’s not my most fun thing to do. I had three pairs of corduroy pants that begged to be hemmed for about two years. I just folded up the bottoms and wore them that way, but they were always coming undone. Takes all the discipline I have to do any kind of alterations and repairs. One year my oldest stepdaughter bought me a dress she purchased at the local thrift shop and wanted me to turn it into a “southern belle” type dress. It had perspiration stains under the arms among many other issues. I found a matching fabric and lace and literally took the thing apart and remade it. I would have rather started from scratch and made her something as I had another year, but she thought she was saving me money and I didn’t want to hurt her feelings so I did it. It actually turned our lovely.
On that subject, when my daughter was small we used to buy her Martha’s Miniature dresses. They were so lovely and affordable in the smaller sizes. As she grew, the dresses got more expensive so hubby decided I should start making them myself. I told him it would not be cheap. The dresses were full of lace and ribbon, not to mention the fabric. But I took him up on it and made one for her similar to the one I liked he thought was too expensive. By the time I was finished the dress had cost twice as much, since there were no discounts for me. I told him that these days sewing was more about creativity and little about saving money. I had fun making the dress and she looked adorable in it. I made a point of not saying “I told you so” although it was tempting.
Now that your have-tos are finished I guess you can just relax and enjoy the holidays. Just joking. You sound like me. There will always be something that needs doing. A creative mind becomes restless without something on the drawing board.

I guess we are both busy with “hubby needs!” I was busy darning socks last night while I was waiting for pictures to upload. I used to do alterations and didn’t care for it much either… I try to turn down as,many jobs as,I can because it just isn’t creative enough sewing for me.
I still have plenty to do and without sewing I have to come up with something else to talk about…

I’m pretty used to sewing for her now…these were the first set in sleeves for her, so I had to figure out which sleeve size to use. The thinner the fabric, the easier and nicer the gathers turn out.

Navi’s dress is just darling and I love her red shoes. Red shoes are perfect for little girls/ dolls , especially for Christmas. The Turtles candy is sure to be a hit as well. That candy instantly brought back memories of dining at Bill Knapp’s in Cincinnati in the 1970’s when I was visiting my grandparents. We would go there after church for lunch. When you paid the bill there were two dishes filled with Turtles or small York peppermint patties and you could buy one for a treat. I still remember there kid’s menu with the funny names. You could order the lion, the bear etc and it would be a hamburger, scrambled eggs, grilled cheese etc.
Saw your comment on darning socks. Nice to know someone else knows how. My grandmother did all kinds of handwork and besides teaching me to crochet and embroider etc, taught me to darn socks. I have the wooden mushroom darner she used. the handle comes off to store your needles. The bottom has a stamp saying made in Yugoslavia. pretty neat. As to your comment yesterday, yes, I love old things.
