If I were ever to publish a book…it would probably be a “Look Book…”

Laura was commenting the other day, when I showed that slideshow of Christmas dresses, how much she liked the picture of Rebecca in “Christmas Rose”… a dress from 2016. I took a second look at the picture and had to agree, even telling her if I ever did a book, the pictures of that photo shoot might prove to be worthy of being on the cover.

Do you know what a “look book” is? Actually the definition pertains to fashion… “The purpose of any fashion lookbook is to show off a model, a clothing line or a style, through a collection of photos. A model’s lookbook will act as a portfolio, while brands will use their lookbooks to promote a seasonal collection or a clothing line, and to give styling ideas.” I’ve seen lots of bloggers selling “Look Books” showing off their style of decorating. SO…IF I ever were to publish a look book, 3 guesses as to what mine would be about? Dolls in dresses! Makes sense, don’t you think?

Marilyn thought of the name, “Christmas Rose” and it was perfect! I just loved that dress and loved the photo session with Rebecca almost as much… I hope you don’t mind but I thought I would share all the pictures I used from that listing. I believe it was one of the prettiest dresses I’ve ever made and hope you don’t mind seeing it again… see if you think it’s “Look Book” material!!

Let me introduce Rebecca in her Regency dress called “Christmas Rose.”

If you click on many of the pictures, they will enlarge.

I Hope that’s enough to hold you over till tomorrow! :o)

Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, yes, Jeanne, that was really an exceptional photo shoot! So many details in that ensemble, it needed some good, close-up pictures to show them all, as well as some distance shots to show off the whole effect. And, really, I think Rebecca looks well pleased with that gown. I’ll bet she was reluctant to let it go to the new owner!

I haven’t sewn for my dolls for a bit–making pillowcases for the grands for Christmas at the moment. I have the two done that have to be mailed; two others are partly done, and two more need to be started. We have 5 grands, but our son has a new girlfriend, and she has a little boy….

Hope you had a restful and joyful Sunday!

Thank you, Barbara! I’ll try to remember to email pictures to Jeanne after Christmas (they aren’t all made yet!).

This is something I’ve done for the grands for a number of years now. Not last year–ran out of time!–but other years. And once or twice I’ve done fleece blankets for them, which was also a hit!

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I think both Rebecca and I both were sad to see that one sell. It was just such a pretty set when all the pieces came together.

Yes, Charlotte, we would like to see those pillowcases you’ve been working on… :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh, yes, Jeanne, that would be a beautiful cover photo! I’m sure it would grab anyone’s attention to see what was inside the book! I can’t get over how much it takes to get it all in, with the overall views and close-ups! The beading—–just wonderful! How many hours did that take to just get the beading done? I can’t get over how you even did beading on the bottom part of the sleeves! While scrolling down I thought, oh goodness, Jeanne has some threads hanging from he sleeve! I went back up and saw that the so called”threads”, were actually beads! You certainly have a lot of tricks up YOUR sleeve!

The reticule is just perfect, again all those beautiful beads! I’m sure your Rebecca made the necklace, and she did a wonderful job!

I was thinking, since I got married the day after Christmas, this dress would have been perfect for my bridesmaids, if I got married back in the Regency days. How pretty would that be with Rebecca holding a little nosegay of red roses and greenery?

I hope to get started on my cookie baking this week, since I have to wait until the last minute or there will be no cookies left by Christmas time if I start earlier! 😉

    1. Hi Linda,
I don’t remember how long this set took me, but I do remember liking it so much as I was working on it and I wasn’t in any big hurry to rush the finish.

Bridesmaid dresses in a similar fabric and style could have worked for your or anyone’s wedding.

I hope to deliver the last of my cookies to the clerks at my post office tomorrow. ..I gave some to the mailman today and the trash man will get his tomorrow too.

      Thanks so much Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. It was a wonderful photo shoot. No wonder you enjoyed it.

I’m thinking of a variation on your proposed book. Put one dress pattern in the back, with three lengths of skirt, a pantalette pattern, and a reticule pattern. The rest could be photos of various of your Regency dresses to inspire “lookers” to make their own. I want people to be able to see as many of your dresses as possible, and you do have beautiful dresses and beautiful photos. Why not share with a wider audience.

Charlotte is of couse right about the closeups for the lovely details and the pictures that show the complete effect. It would be interesting to research potential publishers and see what interest is out there. You already have everything you need except an introduction. People would love to see your hair styles.
Screenwriters use look books too, to show what the movie might look like and create interest.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Just even considering or even dreaming about a look book makes me excited…maybe someday.
Thank you for your sweet compliments on the pictures of Rebecca. I’ve said it before and I think it’s so true… Rebecca is one of American Girls prettiest dolls ever.

Something to dream about for the future…

I had one inquiry about Navi’s Christmas dress, but the lady changed her mind saying she shouldn’t be spending money on herself…
I lowered the price hoping it might sell…but if not, I’ve got my first dress for next year. I may take her slip and shoes and go ahead and sell them separately…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Oh gosh, what trouble I am having commenting on your blog, Jeanne! I have tried 4 times now, and just nothing works. I really need to get going, have lots to do, but will try one more time.

Oh my goodness, yes, this dress would be a wonderful cover photograph for the book! Who doesn’t love Christmas, Regency dresses, and pretty dolls? This outfit has it all, and I love all the beautiful beadwork on it, plus that sweet reticule! Love, love, love it!

I was just thinking how pretty this dress would have been for my bridesmaids! I got married the day after Christmas, and it would look so sweet with a red rose nosegay!

Well, I do have to start my day, and this is late for me! Cookie baking is next on the radar, and they had better last until Christmas! 😉

  5. I have no idea what happened, but like I said I was having trouble with getting my comment to print, but now several hours later, I see that it did………somehow! Sorry about all the mix-up!

    1. Hi Linda,
I don’t know what happened either…but I will try and find someone at church in IT who might be able to help me figure it out…
Sarah and her family took a trip back to Kenya until February…
      Thanks for commenting…”twice!”
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. This outfit is definitely a perfect holiday dress. Love it and the sweet hat too.
The heat is coming, the heat is coming! Or at least I hope so. New heater and a dwindling bank account is due to arrive today. Keep your fingers crossed for us. 🙂
Have you had a moment to shop yet? Hope so. The big day is almost upon us. 🙂

    1. You have my sympathy about your heater problems. Last December we had some frigid weather come in that included snow (rare for my part of the country). Our heater stopped working. Our son fixed it, but we had to wait for him to fix others first before he could get to ours. Brrr! We have an electric fireplace that has a heater, but with no doors on our living room it was better than nothing but not much. Made me think of winter in the pioneer days where the only heat was very close to the fireplace.

      1. Oh yes, me too on the pioneers. How did they ever survive? And I’m sure they had to use their woodpile sparingly to last the entire winter.

    2. Thanks so much, Joy,
Yes, I have one thing bought…every time my mom comes over she asks me where I got my turquoise clock in my kitchen…she then says every time she wants to get one…so I bought it for her…I hope she’ll love it!
      But that’s it for me…you?
Oh, I forgot, you’re getting a new heater…there probably goes “your” Christmas money!!!

      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Absolutely beautiful dress! The whole ensemble is gorgeous. I needed the close-up to see the bodice well. Truly lovely. The reticule is perfect and I just love, love, love the little cap. So feminine. I probably would have bid on this one myself. It may be a Regency dress, but in my book it’s so today. I love seeing girls dressed up, but you rarely even see that at church anymore except for maybe Easter Sunday.

    1. Thank you Barbara,
I think Rebecca’s dress is such a girlie dress and so feminine…just the way I like them.
Thank you for the wonderful compliments on this dress set.
      Blessings,Jeanne

  8. It truly is a beautiful dress. It’s so crisp and colorful looking. Rebecca is so pretty in it. The reticule is perfect and so is her headpiece. It was one I always wished I had.
It was neat to see all sides of the dress in your pictures. How do you catalog all your outfits? Are they listed by dress with the name of the doll wearing it? You have made so many outfits, your cataloging must be quite large.
So Linda is a Christmas bride. How special and yes, Rebecca’s dress would be absolutely lovely for bridesmaid dresses!! Back in those days, the dress would have been eloquent enough to be the bride’s dress!

    1. Hi Paula,
I hadn’t counted how many pictures I used until I just now counted them…26!! I hope they weren’t redundant!!
Thank you so much for your sweet comments on it.
I actually just have my dolls listed by their name…and sometimes I include if it’s a special dress for a certain period…like Regency or Colonial or Civil War. Most everything else is just listed by the dolls name.
      Thank you again, Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. What a nice Monday morning post. That was a darling dress. My eye went right to the hat…I’ve seen that vintage trim with the velvet ribbon in it. It’s from ‘when’ do you think? I can just imagine you rooting through your stash of trims and your eyes zeroing in on that particular one with a smile on your face.
Have you ever visited the Shutterfly website? You could make yourself a marvelous quality hard cover book with all your favorite dresses in it. It takes a bit to do one but it is so much fun and you can stop and start and save it until you have time to work on it again. My son has one he is giving his wife this Christmas that has all the memories of the trips they took in their RV over the years. They were picture takers so it is going to be just amazing.
There are lots of places that do these books but the technical help and the quality of the pages are excellent from Shutterfly. …and since I’m Going on and on Shutterfly does so much charitable giving….if you ever watch “Ellen” they are the ones giving generously to those who have had awful things happen to them or support needy charities.

    1. Thank you for your sweet thoughts about Rebecca’s dress set.
I bought that green velvet trim in Hobby
Lobby I think…and just love it…I also have it in a rose color too.
No, I’ve never visited Shutterfly but a friend of mine put together a book of some church events and my brother made one of his twin boys when they were very little.
I’ll have to check them out after your glowing report on them.
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings,Jeanne

  10. So lovely, Jeanne , to see Rebecca’s “Christmas Rose” dress again. Every single detail was exquisite, from her dainty Juliet cap with the velvet ribbon to the trim on her pantalettes. I love the little reticule with all the beading as well as the little arch of bead on the dress sleeves and the satin ribbons hanging down the front. Whoever the lucky winner of that dress certainly has one to treasure. I often wish I had had money to bid on it. It would indeed make the perfect cover photo for a book.I guess “Godey’s Lady’s Book” would have been considered a “look book” in that day to showcase the day’s fashion. I have a framed cover of an old issue of “The Delineator” and have seen a couple of their magazines in the antique store.
How special to be a Christmas bride, Linda. I bet the church was stunning.

    1. Thank you for noticing all the tiniest details on Rebecca’s dress set. It was one of my favorites and seems it was yours too.
I have 2 Delineator magazines from 18__ something and I do use them as look books… I love to try and duplicate the dresses I see in there…
You should buy those Deliaeator magazines you saw in that antique store…you’dove the articles and advertisements as much as the fashions.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
