I need lessons on taking pictures of furniture…

Maybe I should talk to my sister, Cindy on how to take nice pictures of furniture! She could do a much better job than what I’m about to show you, but I do have a couple of excuses. First of all, it was very cloudy and my house seemed dark inside when I got around to taking my pictures. Second, I just received a new phone for Christmas and I’m still trying to figure it out! But I’ll go ahead and show you 2 things I received for Christmas.

I’ve been wanting a different end table/cabinet to go between 2 chairs in my living room. I’m can’t even remember where this end table came from but it was too big and too long and “not right” and so I just “lived” with it, but I didn’t really care for it. My hubby wanted me to paint it and I couldn’t even muster up the desire to do that… It seemed hopeless and I just longed for something new (or used) and cute and pretty! This was the old one…

Well, Christmas morning, I was opening a gift at the table and Rebecca secretly carried the new cabinet she had found behind me and set it between the chairs…(This is the WHITE thing I was telling you about…)

Kristoffer’s girlfriend, Alexis, asked me to get something out of her coat on the chair… I turned around and got her coat, but never even saw the cabinet. They all said, “Look mom!” and I about fainted when I finally did see it… It was so beautiful sitting there…how could I have missed it??? I just kept gasping and jumping up and down and going, “Oh, Oh, Oh… I LOVE it!” I think they all knew it was a keeper! It’s really really pretty!! Did I say “Really” pretty? I couldn’t have picked out anything I liked any better myself. I took a picture of it and showed it to Kristoffer. He said, “MOM… you just got a phone with one of the best camera’s and that’s the best picture you could come up with?” SO… Alexis took this picture…

Then we moved it over by the tree and took this one…

I’ll have to figure out how to decorate it or what to put on top later, but for now, it’s sitting there with the RED thing on top… Let me tell you about it.

My hubby and I went to a nearby town last Saturday and hit 2 antique stores. The first one he went in with me; the second one, he decided to sit in the car while I looked around. I took a few pictures of a few booths and a few things I saw that I liked…

Right inside the door I saw these stenciled windows… loved them…

Upstairs I found this glass MAIL box… but at $75, it was going to stay there!

This was one of my shots… a fun red metal tractor hauling a Christmas tree on the side…

Well, long story short, my hubby told Kristoffer about that red tractor and he decided to go get it for me… It’s so detailed and really fun… my hubby loves it too…

So I took some pictures of it on my new cabinet…

Sort of silly, I know, but I liked it so now it’s mine! See what I mean about taking pictures of furniture? Of course it was dark outside when I trying to finish up this post…

So I’ll leave you with a night shot of my Christmas tree with the lights on…

I’ll try to work on my picture taking skills with my new phone…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, what lovely surprises you got, Jeanne!! I, too, really love your new cabinet!! It’s a much nicer size/shape than that old table–but I bet someone else might love that old table as much as you love your new cabinet, so I have a feeling it will find a new home along they way somewhere!

That tractor with the Christmas tree is such fun! Looks like it’s in pretty good shape, too!! What a terrific Christmas you had!!

I do have a question about the Jewish Coffee Cake recipe from yesterday’s post. What size box of pudding do you use? I know there are two sizes (as there are of Jello), so I was wondering which was the right size. I’ve copied the recipe on a card now, and will leave it out until I see the answer. Thanks!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on my new cabinet. I just love how it looks in my living room
The pudding is the smaller box…oh, I hope you like it…it was so moist…
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh gosh, Jeanne, you sure did score some WONDERFUL surprises, and I do mean surprises! Lots of times, we have an inkling of what will be under the tree, especially when someone asks what we want, but you certainly WERE thrilled to be truly surprised! I love your new table! It fits right in with the farmhouse vibe, and certainly with your new kitchen, which I see in the background of one of the shots. It’s amazing what one piece of furniture can do to a room !

The tractor is adorable! It’s such a nice size too, not a little dinky thing. That is a popular theme now. Why, my table setting for Christmas had a lantern with trees and a red pickup truck hauling a Christmas tree inside of it, and the plates matched that too! And yes, they were paper plates at that! I even used my good silver with it! I just love that theme, and everyone was taking pictures of it on their phones!

Your last Christmas picture was just beautiful, and it matched the love surrounding you with your wonderful family! Have fun with your new “toys”!

    1. Yes, I did see Cindy’s reply from yesterday. No wonder I don’t see black ones, since I never am in the men’s section of Walmart!
And thank you for the anniversary wishes!

      1. Hi Linda,
Yes, talk about being surprised!! I had no idea about the cabinet! Rebecca found it at Target and I’d never seen it…that’s the best part…it was a total surprise and I loved it as much as if I had picked it out myself!!! SCORE!!!

I bet your table was adorable…any pictures of it to share?

I love the size of the tractor and might be able to use it for a prop for Navi or Ten Ping!! Double duty!! :o)

        Congratulations on your Anniversary!!!
        Blessings,Jeanne

  3. Love the tractor. And I like it better than the car. Displays well too. Kind of goes with my 50’s fire truck. 🙂 Great present.
After seeing that old sorry end table, I too tried to envision its transformation. But, that is a tough one. I wonder what Cindy would do? I guess if you changed out the handles and painted it black, it would be a definite improvement. Maybe it would work as a bedside table? Black goes with everything. 🙂
The new cabinet/table is adorable. Love that cottage look. And it looks so nice with the tractor visiting on top.
You have me with that glass mailbox. I have never seen one before. Very interesting.
I think the photos were great. Enjoyed seeing everything.
Hopefully, the drain cleaner guy comes today. Another household problem has occurred. Washer backing up into the kitchen sink. Oh and the ice maker is toast. And the floor is warped from the water heater leak. And the dishwasher is making strange sounds. But, we do have glorious heat. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I’m glad you like my tractor…me too! You probably like your firetruck more, but that’s okay!!! We both love our “toys!”

No…Cindy was in my camp…the old table was too dated and needed to go. It was a pretty nice fix…who would have thought the perfect cabinet was at Target?

Don’t you just love that glass mail box! It really caught my attention! It was the only thing in their whole booth that I liked…maybe they’ll have a sale in their booth soon…

I so sorry about all the home hiccups you as re having. It seems like one thing leads to another…
      Stay warm!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What a lovely end table from Rebecca, Jeanne! It’s perfect and I can’t wait to see how you use it besides the fact it’s an end table. The glass front is perfect for displays. It looks great in your living room.
Also, the red tractor hauling a Christmas tree is so cool. What a find and so nice of Christopher to go back and get it for you.
Well, your brunch is out of this world ! Looks so yummy!!
Thank you for sharing! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas !

    1. Hi Paula,
It was so nice to get a little tractor that I really loved and then to be totally surprised by a new cabinet that I really wanted! Both my kids hit the nail on the head this Christmas for me.

W did have a very nice Christmas, and I think I might have another brunch next year! I really enjoyed doing it.
I hope your Christmas was nice too Paula..
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. The new cabinet is beautiful — and you didn’t notice it? I once walked into my parents’ double garage to see something my dad wanted me to look at and missed noticing his newly finished 1914 Model T. It was bright red. So don’t feel bad. Besides, it was so much fun for your family, and it already has a story of its own.
I think that the old end table, repainted, maybe with advice from Cindy or maybe inspired by a new location, could be as pretty as most of the things in Cindy’s house. It looks to me like it has real possibilities.
You’ll enjoy that tractor forever, just like your new square platter. I also liked the red car in that shop. My dad’s car, the one I didn’t notice, was redder than that one. When 200 of us drop in for a surprise visit, you can take us to antique stores like that and we’ll buy them out.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I can’t believe we both missed wonderful objects in the room because we weren’t expecting them… me and my new white cabinet and you and your dad’s new red model T Ford.
I’m sure I might be able to find someone who would like the end table… it was too long…m to use 32″ long…if it had been square, I may have tried to paint it.
Oh yes. wouldn’t it be fun for all of us to go on a field trip to those antique shops!! Just one requirement..bring your credit card!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Dear Jeanne, well you are right, it wasn’t earrings (chuckle). I love the end table/cabinet. It is very cheery! I would love to find one about 6 feet tall in that style to use as a place to display my dolls.
I love that your family surprised you.
The tractor is adorable. I can see you using that all year round as the tractor can pull different items at different times of the year.
The antiques shop had a variety of nice objects and was very nicely arranged. I loved the doll-sized “fainting” couch. I also like the little dolly in the chair.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
A taller version of this cabinet really would be nice to display dolls in!! I love that idea!!

I was kind of rushing through the 2nd antique store knowing my hubby was in the car… it’s more fun to take your time and go slowly taking it all in…
That little velvet fainting couch was really adorable! You never know what you’ll see there.
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What a lovely new end table. I can imagine you will find fun things to put inside it. The red tractor looks cute on top. You certainly had a few nice Christmas surprises.
That antique store looks like a fun place to visit- lots of different items. I agree with Dorothy that the fainting couch is adorable. Depending on the price, I might have snagged that one.
I wanted to comment that Reuben is so cute in his sweater. My kitties got a few Christmas toys- a moose wearing a Santa hat, two mice with Nordic design bodies and felt ears, and a catnip toys shaped like red and green starlight mints. Hope everyone else had a nice Christmas.

    1. Hi Laura,
That fainting couch was a child’s size and may have been a Salesman’s sample…it was quite expensive…$395! Yikes!!!
I bet your kitties liked their toys better than Reuben liked his sweater…we need to give him another haircut…maybe it will be easier to get on him when he has a little less hair!!

I hope your household is a little better by now.
I’m waiting until after my sister and brother come and go before I take my Christmas things down.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
