If you were wondering about pictures from everyone…hold on to your hat… I’ve got some.
I’ve been so busy since Thursday I haven’t been able to answer any emails, but wanted to get these pictures out before it was “TOO” late… when you see them, you’ll understand!
Susette sent these 2 pictures of her girls dressed up… See if you can guess who they are!
If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.
Here is a fun picture from Susette. When she was 15 years old she went to a Halloween as a flapper and this picture was given to her about 12 years ago. She didn’t know her mom had it. Doesn’t she look stylish? She wanted to make it clear that her “cigarette” was only rolled up paper! :o)
I think this is on her patio and it’s obviously a Halloween themed grouping of her ceramic houses.
She also told me Ivy had a Halloween party and invited all her friends to come in their favorite costumes…Do you recognize anyone? How cute!
Ten Ping is sad because in China, they don’t celebrate Halloween… Susette told her she could go to the party in her Valentine’s Day dress. I think I see a slight smile on her face. :o)
Here are 2 more of Susette’s girls as Flappers. I see Kit but don’t know who is on the right…
Linda recently took a short trip down to Branson Missouri and on to Silver Dollar City. She shared some beautiful pictures and I’d like to share them with you all…I remember going there and loving it! It looks like the leaves are turning beautiful colors there!
Oh…and here’s one from me when we were stationed in Italy. My brother Bob was a hobo, and I think he was 2 years old. I was a clown and I think I must have been 4 and Cindy was 5 and was a witch. The only thing I can remember about it was my dad cutting big cardboard pieces that had socks slipped over them and my feet flapped on the ground when I walked. If you click on the picture and see it close up, it also appears that “I” did my own makeup! *wink* (I never saw this before but it looks like a big (probably silver foil covered) robot is being carried behind my brother’s head.) :o)
Just a quick note… one of the ladies who reads my blog has been in Hospice and just lost her son 2 weeks ago. She hopes to participate in the Sew-a-long but can’t get to town to buy anything. I am going to send her some tulle and lace tomorrow, so if you don’t mind, we’ll do the sew-a-long as soon as she receives her stuff. I’ll send it priority so she’ll get it quicker.
I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love all the pictures, Jeanne–thanks to you and all who shared them!!
Of the two flapper dolls, I’m thinking the one on the right was the first Asian American Girl (“girls of today”) that was made. I also have her (mine is named Abby).
I’ve never been to Branson (or Silver Dollar City, either, for that matter) so enjoyed the pictures from there. Everything looks so festive and lovely!
And the picture of you and your brother and sister….so cute!!
I found a clown costume I made for one of my AG dolls years ago; I think that April will wear that when we meet Marika and her doll Annie for lunch on Wed. Will try to remember to take my camera!
HI Charlotte,
I’m so glad you enjoyed all the pictures today. Aren’t they all wonderful?
Silver Dollar City is a fabulous place to visit. It truly is like stepping back in time and so many fun things to see.
Yes, don’t forget your camera. We want to see you and your dolls at lunch!
Blessings, Jeanne
What a fun and varied post today, Jeanne! I enjoyed seeing Susette’s dolls dressed for their Halloween party! She does such a wonderful job of fixing them up and making little scenes! I do recognize most all of her dolls, and Charlotte hit the nail on the head when she said that one doll next to Kit is the now retired #4 AG doll, their first Asian doll. She is new to Susettes’s house. Isn’t she cute?
Susette made a lovely flapper girl too! She was a beautiful teenager, and is so lucky to have that photo!
We really enjoy going to Silver Dollar City several times a year, but fall is very special there, with the trees turning, and the emphasis on the cute scarecrows, pumpkins, the scents of pumpkin, spice, and apples wafting through the air. You could almost lose yourself there and go back to a different time. We had a wonderful day there!
Oh, your picture of your Halloween costumes with Bob and Cindy is just so cute! I see that your parents had that imaginative and creative streak, and now you all have it! Love the originality of the costumes, especially in a time when costumes were mostly homemade. Those are the best!!
Yes, you HAVE improved in applying make-up! When I saw you this past spring, your makeup looked NOTHING like the picture above!! 😉
HI Linda,
I enjoyed seeing the pictures from Susette and especially enjoyed that everyone else enjoyed them too!
Your pictures of Silver Dollar City brought back so many memories. I love that place.
Yes homemade costumes were always what my mom and dad did…no store bought ones for us.
You are way too kind to me Linda!!!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
So sorry about the reason for postponing the sew along. Thank goodness for Hospice for your Dear Reader. We send pictures along for you to share when plans change or life gets in the way.
I was going to the church Halloween Party in a head-to-toe authentic flapper ensemble in 1956, on loan from a neighbor whose aunt wore it in the 1920s.
Love seeing Linda’s beautiful pictures, and the ones of you, Cindy and your brother are how I remember Halloween even when my children were small.
HI Susette,
I mailed off some goodies to my reader and they said it’s supposed to get to her on Friday. It looks, like maybe we’ll start the Sew a long on Monday… I don’t think I want to start it on Saturday.
I think you looked “Fabulous, Dahling” in your dress and fur! Thanks so much for sharing that picture.
Blessings, Jeanne
Thanks for the picture show today – all are lovely and really enjoyed seeing your Halloween pics.
Condolences and God’s Blessing for our fellow blog reader. How thoughtful of you to send her supplies.
Thanks Leigh,
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures that were shared today. I enjoyed them too…and it’s fun to look at them again and again…seeing new things each time.
The slight delay will just allow everyone to gather everything they need…
Thanks Leigh,
Blessings, Jeanne
Susette is the star today! What a wonderful photo with fun memories. Those heels look so high. Hopefully, there were no accidents. Love the Halloween house and graveyard. So festive. And all of the big girl AG dolls are amazingly dressed. Love all of the costumes. Is that Felicity back there in a mermaid? costume? Lots of fun.
Linda’s fall travel photos are a feast for the eyes. The colors and subjects quite amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Great memories photo of Jeanne and siblings all dressed up. I had to laugh, when you look at the photo background, there is a mom all dressed up wearing heels and father in his suit taking their children somewhere? Maybe it was a Halloween party? How times have changed.
Looking forward to the sew along whenever your reader received the materials. My thoughts are with her and family.
Yes, Joy, Susette is the Flapper star for sure today. Love that picture. I was born the year she did that which let’s me know some of the things seen that year. I thought those heels were very high too!!
I need to have that picture of us blown up…it’s just a little bitty 3×3 picture. I looked at the surroundings too and did some wondering about everything.
We’ll probably do the sew a long start on Mnday. Her stuff is supposed to get there on Friday…
It’ll be just a few days late.
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m joining everyone else with thoughts and prayers for your reader.
The Halloween pictures are wonderful. I especially love Kit in her costume this year. She wears flapper clothes with exceptional flair. I recently acquired a #4 (Asian-American Girl) but she’s not one of the early ones, though I’ve been told they all have the same head mold. The PC ones seem to me to be special, maybe because they really were the first. Like Kit, Susette wears flapper clothes with flair. What a lovely outfit. You were so lucky to be able to borrow the real thing and have it fit so perfectly. (I’m so glad to know the cigarette was fake. I remember when I was 15, my classmates thought that holding a cigarette looked “sophisticated.” We looked silly, but Susette pulls it off with style.)
Great make-up, Jeanne. I wonder how long it took to get it off. You look like you are looking into the sun. We have so many family pictures like that, with all of us trying not to look blinded by the sunshine. I’ll bet at least half of us have memories of trying to look happy while we tried to smile and not blink.
Lots of nice memories today. Thanks for all the pictures, especially Linda’s. When we don’t live in an area, we don’t know how beautiful it is.
Thanks Marilyn,
I think the pictures were so fun today…a little bit dolly, a bit sophistication, a bit of beautiful scenery, a bit of nostalgia…something for everyone.
I’m glad you enjoyed them.
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, thanks for posting these photos from the blog family. I love to see other folks’ memories.
The dollies all looked like they were having fun times in their photos.
HI Dorothy,
It truly is fun to see things from others. I am always thrilled to see what others have going on.
Glad you enjoyed the post today!
Blessings, Jeanne
Super , super late tonight to see what is going on. I’ve been so busy I don’t get to see the blog until really late the past few days. Love Susette’s picture as a flapper… fantastic costume. You hit all the right things- feather boa, cloche hat , long string of pearls. All your dolls look wonderful as well and the party set up is great.. I enjoyed your pictures, Linda. I would love to make it to Branson some day soon. Your clown costume is really cute , Jeanne.
HI Laura,
Better late than not at all. I’m so glad you enjoyed the pictures from today. I agree with you about Susette getting her costume “just right!” I think she looks wonderful!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Laura.
See you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne
Happy Halloween! That’s the benefit of checking in late… I get to say it on the 31st. I enjoyed the blog post and photos today. Your comment on your clown costume photo made me want to check where you were stationed in Italy as my father was also stationed in Italy with the Army. I graduated from high school in Vicenza, Italy, and have very fond memories of the town and people I met there.
