Yesterday, a crinoline…today a lacy bonnet!

If you are reading this post, it should be Wednesday. I am still working on getting my posts back on the right day. Sarah just emailed me with some more information. If you are new here, I have been having troubles getting my posts out on the day they are supposed to be. If you haven’t done so already, my webmaster suggested everyone go to the form at the right and re-subscribe. If you get a message that says you are already a subscriber, you’re good! Hopefully this will be resolved soon! :o)

Okay now for that bonnet I mentioned. I saw an illustration in one of my Civil War booklets of a bonnet from Godey’s Lady’s book that caught my eye. It wasn’t too fancy, but I thought it was just right for this dress. Instead of a full blown bonnet out of fabric, I liked this picture of a lacy bonnet. It would have been nice to have had some pleated lace, but I improvised and used what I had. It’s sort of like a day bonnet or a cap, if you please.

This is what mine looks like flat.

The ribbon was satin and didn’t want to stay in a bow, so I pretied it and fastened it to the bonnet, then the ribbon goes under her chin and fastens with a snap. It’s much easier and a lot less fussing with getting the bow just right.

It also has some loops across the top. That was something new I had never done on a bonnet before.

Flowers accent the left side.

This is what it looks like so far all together… YAY…it’s almost done!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, Jeanne, I hate to tell you this, but I only got notification of the pantalettes blog post, and it arrived Sept. 4 at 3 a.m.! However, tonight I was looking thru the spam file and found all kinds of things that should have gone to my inbox (mostly notices of Facebook posts and such), but amongst them was a notice from your blog to update my profile, so now I have done that, and we’ll see if things improve.

I might suggest to those that are having trouble, to check their spam file to see if there is any such notice that got sent there. It says, in the subject line, “I Dream of Jeanne Marie Updates; Update Profile”.

Well, I’m caught up on your posts now, and I must say, the pantalettes and crinoline to add a lot to the under-structure of this dress, but that hat is literally the “icing on the cake”!! I love the look of the lace gathered up like that, and those loops of ribbon just add so much dimension and elegance to that hat! It’s a winner for sure!!

  2. Oooooh, pretty, Jeanne! I love the lacey bonnet, and it adds just the right touch to the outfit! Now, where could Miss Rebecca be going in that darling outfit?

Well, nothing showed up for me today, at least not at 5:38 CDT, so I just got onto one of the older blogs that I kept, and saw that a new entry was for today, and clicked onto that. So I guess there are still problems. Is this problem happening with only subscribers you have had for some time, versus the newer ones? Maybe we should unsubscribe and then subscribe again?

Sorry I typed my email address wrong a couple of days ago. I’m not a perfect typist by any means, and when I use my iPad, look out! I much prefer the desk top to anything!

  3. It’s 4:30 am and I have accessed the blog easily. I’m not registered and don’t get notices, I just do a regular search for idreamofjeannemarie.com and get the blog, though recently I can’t always access the entry of the day. This morning, obviously, I can. Not long after midnight, I could not. On the whole, for me, I’d say things are looking better and I’ll keep checking, just to be sure.

The green leaves in the dress fabric go well with Rebecca’s eyes, don’t you think? And the new bonnet is just right. Now to see what you do with Rebecca’s hair. I did want lace gloves, but now I think they’d be to much. You may be reaching perfection already.

  4. Lace gloves would be perfect if she wasn’t wearing the sleeves on the dress, Marilyn, you’re right! Maybe they’d be a nice extra piece? No blog came for me today. Hope everyone has a great day!

  5. Please tell Sarah that re-subscribing at the right does not work! It comes up as already subscribed so you can’t re-subscribe. And today for the first time, I did not receive any posts. Not the day late one or the current. So, I too like Linda went to an old post and found that there was a current post. But, receiving an email with the post is so much nicer, and that way I don’t forget to look. Please ask Sarah if we should unsubscribe? and then resubscribe. Maybe that would work? But, I don’t want you to have a bunch of unsubscribes either.

The bonnet is lovely and goes so perfectly with the dress. I like the flower on one side the the bow on the other. Very cute. And not having to fuss with tying it on is a bonus.

I keep forgetting what day it is because of the Monday holiday, but that day, I went to Joann’s for their fat quarter sale. Always find fun things, and all of their Halloween was a big sale too. Came home with a bunch of cute fabrics. Always enjoy that. Now, if I can actually locate the right pattern buried here somewhere. 🙂

Hope the rest of your week goes smoothly.

  6. Oh I just knew you would come up with something stunning and you did not disappoint!
It’s just perfect – the coral ribbon really sets it off. I truly agree about tying the bow, they can be so finicky so your idea of a snap with the flower on one side is a wonderful design.

FYI No post in my mail box today but like I said previously I just type your name in so no problem just letting you know.

  7. The bonnet is adorable and I remember my sister making ones of those to complete a civil war day dress she designed. Her sewing skills are amazing. I think it’s the perfect hat for a walk in town or a picnic.

The undergarments are just the perfect touch and that gauze fabric is perfect for warm weather. It has always been one of my favorite fabrics.

As far as emails I don’t have good news. I have been missing posts or they are a day or two late. I tried to subscribe but it states that I already follow. I wonder if unsubscribing would help with the issue. Can’t hurt to try.

  8. Hi Jeanne – I know you asked that we let you know if the emails are working correctly, but since so many are letting you know what’s NOT working correctly, I thought I’d jump in.

I didn’t previously subscribe to your blog, I just had you bookmarked and kept up with you every day that way. Last Sunday, September 2, I decided to go ahead and subscribe. It told me “thank you”, and I got a confirmation email that I was subscribed. The only email I’ve gotten since then was dated Tuesday 9/4/18, 5:04 a.m. The email showed your post from 9/3/18. Then I went to your website and saw that you had a post for 9/4/18. And today you have a post for 9/5/18, though the only emails I’ve gotten are the confirmation one and the one on 9/4/18 for the 9/3/18 post. Something definitely still not working right.

    Theresa

p.s. Even though I don’t have any American Girl dolls, I really like the little lace bonnet!

  9. Dear Jeanne, how adorable. She will be the belle of the ball! All of her sisters are going to want an outfit just like hers.

  10. Well, I never received the post on the crinoline or today’s post. I think I’m going to just go directly to your blog from now on and if there’s a post I can read it. I used to do that about half the time anyway instead of going through the emailed one.
What a sweet, delicate bonnet. I love the lacey look of it and the loops of ribbon are perfect. This dress set is becoming so very beautiful. Rebecca’s been wearing this dress so long that she’s probably forgotten that she isn’t going to keep it. I think she’s going to be upset when the time comes to take it of. LOL
Thank you for letting me know the kind of boning you use. Oh, yes, please, I would love a tutorial on the crinolines.

  11. I keep thinking that it’s easy to do what I do — just go to the address bar and put in the address of the blog. After the first time, all I had to do was type in “i” and I got there. But if we use my method, you have no record of the number of readers the blog has. I see now that it’s best if we do subscribe, even if the method is temporarily faulty.
You can see that I don’t follow enough blogs.

  12. The bonnet is lovely. It is so interesting to see your development of a piece.
    Today is Thursday though.
I hope you have a good day.
    Take care —

  13. Hi Jeanne,

What lovely, lovely things you make. Rebecca’s outfit is another stunner. Someone will be very pleased with it…the bonnet is beautiful.

I was receiving your posts a day late also. I did re-subscribe and at this point, the posts are still coming a day after posting….as you said, let’s trust it will work itself out…not matter what, I ALWAYS enjoy your posts whenever I read them.

    Blessings.

  14. The bonnet is so pretty! This outfit is gorgeous- love the orange/peach accents.
Happy Anniversary yesterday in the 5th!

  15. What an unusual and sweet bonnet! It is so cute…love the pleats and loopy ribbon and the lace. It is a keeper.
My message came a day late after I resubscribed. Maybe I should have left it alone?
Looks like she still needs to make some changes. How frustrating for you.
