These new fabrics should keep me busy this Fall…

Hi everyone,
We are back home and had a wonderful time at Gloria’s! In fact, it was GLORIOUS!! We worked, but we played and laughed more than we had in I don’t know how long! It was good for the soul!! My hubby accomplished several things and it was a blessing to be able to bless Gloria! She also made some fabulous Italian spaghetti and sent the leftovers home with us! :o)

When we first arrived there on Friday, we dashed off to a fabric shop as I had already scoped them out on the internet! It was called Fabric Plus and it closed at 4pm on Friday. When we went in I had 20 or so minutes to shop…ever feel the pressure to pick out fabric when everyone’s waiting on you? I did, but the fabrics were too pretty to mind it too much… I found a few things and the lady said she enjoyed watching me! She was seeing what caught my eye and which fabrics I touched.

Well, there were NO sales in the shop, so I just bought a few 1/2 yard pieces… but they will make wonderful Fall dresses. The shop mostly carried Civil War prints… RIGHT UP MY ALLEY! I found 6 pieces and thought YOU might like to see what I fingered and ended up buying. They might be labeled as Civil War prints but I’m not going to say for certain that they will all become Civil War dresses…

They are all the right scale for my dolls… the little ones and well as the big ones… (Well, maybe not Navi or Ten Ping, but most everyone else!)

I never showed a few prints I bought when my hubby and I were in Cape Girardeau, MO, a few weeks ago. I went to The Golden Needle and found these prints 50% off. I love fabric shopping… *sigh*

OK, now SOMEBODY better get on the stick sewing! I’ll try to get Navi’s dress set finished and show you tomorrow…

I’m going to bed soon! Sweet dreams everyone!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Those fabrics are just so….”Jeanne”!! I know you will do something wonderful with each one!

My favorite is the yellow tiny check; I know someone who might like a dress made of that! [Ten Ping is whispering, “me!”]

    1. HI Charlotte,
I was searching for tiny little prints in Fall colors, but didn’t see too many…so I just decided to get the ones I really liked. The one you think is a little yellow check is really an olive green toned fabric. I got that one as a coordinating print for a dress set…
      Glad you like my fabrics!
      Blessimgs, Jeanne

  2. So happy to hear that your little trip was a success, in more ways than one!
You certainly have the “eye” for fabrics, Jeanne! It looks like a certain somebody had better get going on some pretty Civil War dresses!
In spite of the rain we had over the last few days, wasn’t yesterday glorious? And to think, we are in for more days like this! Yay!

    1. HI Linda,
Today is very beautiful and I could do this kind of water all the time…on the cooler side just a bit but the sun is shining!!!
Yes…I better get busy on some dresses…Civil War and everything else!!!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What beautiful fabrics! They are so inspiring. I can just imagine the beautiful autumnal outfits you are going to make. It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend.
    Have a good day!
    Take care —

    1. HI Charlotte,
I think if I worked in a fabric store again, my paycheck would be spent before I even got it!!!
We did have a great working/visiting weekend.
Now it’s time to get busy here!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. So glad you had some good fun with Gloria, good work and good shopping….yes, your fabrics are luscious….and like the rest of the ladies, I will be eagerly awaiting to see how you incorporate them into some beautiful ensembles. Your work is more than charming….it has an essence of elegance and care.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you, Becky,
I need to spend a little more time in my sewing room than in fabric stores…but it was fun to go to this one with Gloria… she hadn’t been to it…
Thank you for your kind words, Becky.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a feast for the eyes! The fabrics are lovely. My favorites are the two companion pieces in aqua and orange/red from the Golden Needle. Wouldn’t sister or twin dresses be pretty using those pieces? Get on it Jeanne! 🙂
Happy to hear you had fun and good food at Gloria’s. You both definitely deserved some down time even with some work involved.
    Have a wonderful week.

    1. Yes maam, Joy!
I’ll get right on it!!! Those 2 pieces you picked out really are beautiful in person!!
Working isn’t so bad with a little laughter included… :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hurray! The email connected to the post for, 9/10/2018, today, second day in a row!

I like the fabrics from The Golden Needle best, especially the blue one. I had to look very closely as I thought the ovals looked like there were beetles there, and sure enough, there are. How cute! Can’t wait to see a dress made of this fabric. Lots of great dresses in both sets of fabrics. Thanks for sharing and so glad you had a great time.

    1. HI Susette,
Well, you certainly spotted something I didn’t notice when I picked the blue one out. I had to go check and see if the name of the print was along the selvage. It was… the print is called “Letters Home.” Now there’s something to try and figure out!
      Thanks Susette….I’ll get busy!
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I couldn’t leave it alone! That fabric is from the Letters Home Club 2015. Legacy Club 1840 for RJR Fabrics. Somehow, it is about a Love story between Lizzy and Ian. The fabrics depict postage stamps? or something like that. I’ll see if I can send the pic of the quilt made with the fabrics. I don’t think they were supposed to be beetles, but they do look like them.

  7. You really picked some lovely fabrics! My favorite is the last one., the cranberry flowers with the sage green leaves.. hope you will make that one up soon!!

    1. HI Shara,
The fabric was the first one I picked out at The Golden Needle…it is really a nice fabric!!
Ok…Susette wants the blue “beetles” one first and you want this sage and cranberry one made up…I’ll have to remember that!!
      Thanks Shara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Oh, no. I can wait on the non-beetle fabric. The cranberry for a Civil War Dress should come first as your faithful followers have waited long enough.

        1. Congratulations to Joy on researching the fabric. I wouldn’t have known where to start. Now I know: Ask Joy!

  8. I have to go with Shara, and I think that fabric would be beautiful for a colonial dress. My other favorite is the brown plaid with the lilies of the valley, but then I’m always fond of brown. Congratulations on your shopping. I went fabric shopping on Saturday with a couple ideas in mind and finally found something I liked for a Civil War Era party dress after 45 minutes of looking, and when I got outside it sparkled — the flowers were outlined in silver, which didn’t show up inside. Very inauthentic. Maybe it can be a modern dress.
I am so glad you had such a nice break, though after your good news from the doctor, maybe even a hurricane would have seemed like a delightful adventure.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I love that lilies of the valley print in the brown too. The pieces I bought were folded up in 1/2 yard bundles. But they had the lilies of the valley print on the bolt there, so I could see it by the yard…and it was really eye catching. It was the 2nd bundle I picked up!
It was perfect that the Dr visit was first and with such good news we could really enjoy ourselves with Gloria.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Dear Jeanne, I am so happy that your weekend went well and that you could celebrate your good news!
    The fabric is all lovely.
Someone in my local Doll Club (UFDC) offered to help me put together my presentation on Civil War dolls. It won’t be until next year. I will keep you in the loop. Thanks for your encouragement.
    Happy sewing today!

    1. HI Dorothy,
Is your Civil War presentation going to be done with display dolls? I mean are you dressing up your dolls and then talking about the fashions of the time, or just the Civil War in general…tell me more…
Oh wait, I just reread your comment and remembered, it’s about the dolls that the children had in the civil war, right?
      Thanks, Jeanne

      1. Dear Jeanne, hello.
Right now, I am just working on the concept in my head. I will do a Powerpoint presentation using photos of dolls. I will also have a few dolls on display; ones that are already dressed in appropriate attire because you know I can’t sew (laugh).
So far, I have a handkerchief doll and a small china headed period doll. I saw a larger china headed period doll on etsy and purchased her.
I know that there were topsy turvy dolls at that time but I am not sure I will use one of them because, for whatever reason, they are a little scary to me.
        Thanks for asking.

        1. Very interesting Dorothy,
I bet you will have fun doing the research for this… it sounds like you have a pretty good idea of where you want to go with this… I still need to look in a book that I have that might have some dolls in it…
          Blessings, Jeanne

  10. My daughter and I would rather shop for fabric than anything. We are fabric addicts and hoarders. She actually never realized how much fabric she had until she moved a few weeks ago and had to move 25 years worth of fabric. Yes, we both sew but fabric is our drug.

My favorite shop is now long gone, it was in Pennsylvania and called The Eddystone Mill and if you couldn’t find what you were looking for in there, it possibly wasn’t ever made. They had the most glorious fabrics and the prices were crazy low. I love, love the brown with the Lily of the Valley print. They are all perfect for Civil War dresses but that one just is gorgeous and it is the perfect shade of brown.

Sounds like you and George had a great time with Gloria and were able to really enjoy yourselves after receiving the great news about his health status. *Yeah! This post came on time*

    1. Sandra, I just did a Google search to see where the old shop was located. It looks like it was near Philadelphia. That’s not too far from me. I don’t buy fabric, as I don’t sew, but friends who do, shop a Jo-Ann’s. I like to go to AC Moore and just walk around.
