I don’t have a lot to share with you today, but it’s a start. I was going to ask your opinion on a few fabrics I was thinking of, but I laid this navy and kind of a taupe/faded gold print on Noel and did the same with a few others. I just kept coming back to this one. I remember one time making a little girls dress in this fabric and it had lace at the bottom as well. It was such a sweet little dress and I decided to replicate it the best I could with such a small doll.
Noel is only 10″ tall, so she’s pretty little. I think this print works fine for her since it’s only a two-tone print. It looks great with her blonde hair… but I DO have to do SOMETHING with that mane of hers before pictures.
I managed to get the bodice constructed. It’s lined with a white cotton and will close in the back with snaps.
The skirt will be fairly full and come past her knees. I used a piece of vintage lace and sewed it close to the hemline. I bought the lace at an antique store down in Kentucky a few years ago. It looks really nice on the navy print, but my pictures aren’t that great right now…
I found a piece of taupe-like wool felt in my stash and will probably make her a little jacket.
I have a piece of Ultrasuede and will probably make her a pair of shoes to go with this dress…
See, I have a plan and it’s coming along already…
Stay tuned to see the next steps I take…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
It’s looking good, Jeanne!! The fabrics and trims are coming together nicely.
By the way, I’m a night owl, not an early bird, and out in Seattle area we are in the Pacific time zone, so probably 2-3 hours behind you. It’s 12:26 a.m. our time when I’m writing this!
My sinus infection got suddenly worse today so I spent the afternoon sleeping. Poor Nyla (my Boneka) is not much closer to a new dress, although I did look thru my stash of patterns and found several for 10″ dolls that Might work. We’ll see!
Thank you Charlotte,
I’m hoping to get some more done on this evening…
I thought you were a late night owl…me too!!
I hope you are feeling better by now…if not…just dream of what you can make for your dolls. ..
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Looking very pretty, Jeanne! I love the way the colors blend together, nothing too jarring or glaring. What beautiful lace too! Do you sew it on by hand or by machine? With my luck, the machine would probably jam up and tear the lace! It works perfectly with the dress material, and I love the soft colors of the jacket and shoe material also. It does look very “autumn” to me! Another winner for you!
Yes, you do need to tame her hair, but I hope you do so and leave the sweet ringlets there, since it gives Noel such a unique look.
Ok, Charlotte, now I get it! Being a night owl, and living on the west coast, it makes perfect sense that you are the first to comment!!
HI Linda,
This vintage lace had quite a bit of body so I pressed it and was able to stitch it on with my machine without any problems.
I’m thinking her wig might be able to be washed and then let dry…I thought maybe if I scrunched it it would calm down a bit.
I’m a little chicken to try it though…I like her wig so much…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh she looks so pretty. Your fabric choice is spot on. Your plans sound just perfect (as usual). I’m looking forward to seeing how everything comes together.
Have a good day!
Take care —
HI Charlotte,
I’m glad you like Noel’s dress so far…she does too and wants me to get busy on it so she can stand upright…
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Noel will be beautiful in that outfit, Jeanne. Despite the fact that her hair needs “taming”, I think it goes so well with the material you’ve chosen for the dress. This will be another fun outfit that we’ll get to see the outcome of shortly.
Congrats on the quick sale of Nyssa’s ensemble. Happy winner!
Blessings.
Thank you Becky,
I think blondes look so pretty in navy blue!
I’ll get her hair under control to match her dressy new look…
Nyssa’s dress certainly went quickly… it was a surprise to me and just a spur of the moment thing for me to do… I guess it paid off.
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
Such pretty fabric! It will be lovely on her:)
I usually rewigg my Bonekas with braids or a bob wig.. perhaps you could braid all those curls!?
HI Shara,
I think it WILL be pretty on Noel…she’s been waiting a while on a new dress…not as long as Nyssa, but a while…
I’ll get her hair figured out…so it’s not so over powering. .. braids might be cute…
Thanks Shara,
Blessings, Jeanne
I like the wild hair look myself. Maybe just a ribbon around the head with a flower on the side would hold it down a bit.
Love navy and the details you are adding are perfect.
How are those cabinets coming along? 🙂
HI Joy,
I kind of like the long curly look too, but it needs to be tamed a little bit…
Maybe a hat would hold the curls down a bit.
The cabinets? They are still waiting for me to get back to them…maybe soon…
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
It’s 9:30 here now and I can finally get to today’s blog entry. What a lot of progress, and what beautiful fall colors. You are good with hair — you’ll think of something that works well with Noel’s wild curls. Maybe tie back the top layer with a ribbon and a flower? All the curls are lovely for spring and fall and probably for Christmas too.
Nyssa’s picture is just below where I’m writing. She still looks upset about losing her dress so quickly. I loved the picture of her wearing both hats at once.
Someone asked yesterday how tall Anneke is — 16 1/2 inches. I put more information about her and my other favorite (but un-owned) Lawton doll on yesterday’s blog comments at 10:30 last night, with a link to pictures of an unclothed doll so that you can see the wood.
HI Marilyn,
I need to Google mohair wigs to see what is the best way to get them back to looking nice.
That picture with the 2 hats on Nyssa’s head was just a silly picture I took. Glad you liked it…
I saw your comments but I might run what you said again because I bet a lot of people missed it… I’m glad you put that link in…
Thanks for showing us how unique Wendy’s doll’s are.

Dear Jeanne, she is adorable! I think that Bonekas are such cute dolls. I am biased, though, as I have four!
Is that the Ellowyn Rose wig? I have one on one of my Tuesday’s Child dolls. It looks like you are well along to finishing the outfit.
