“Bohemian Black Beauty”…modeled by Nyssa

It was too late by the time I got to your comments yesterday to comment on them…sorry…another busy day! I appreciate ALL the kind words you wrote about Nyssa’s new dress. Whether you are a fan of the Bohemian style or hate black dresses, Nyssa just loves this one and told me it was the most “un-cutesie” dress she’s had on in a long time. Truth be told… it’s been the ONLY dress she’s had on in a LONG time…

I was happy with how quickly this one came together…(compared to the Civil War dress that ended this evening! It took more than a Month of Sunday’s to complete.) Ugh… Thank you to the winner of that dress…I appreciate your winning bid!!

Okay, so yesterday you saw the dress as it was in the basic stage. I had to add some dangle ties and a lace flower at the raised waist to finish it up completely.

Nyssa has soft ivory tulle slip underneath the dress with a stretch lace waistband that makes it easy to slide up her legs.

“My” Rebecca thought the dress needed a choker so I made one from a piece of black velvet ribbon that has a ruffle on both sides. I sewed a few pearls at the center and attached a tiny piece of Velcro at the ends of the choker to hold it in place.

I first made the cream hat as a draft to see how the pattern worked and it was so cute I decided to go ahead and decorate it with a bow similar to the one on Erica’s pattern picture.

The black wool felt hat was decorated with some floss in a design that mimics the flowers in the dress fabric.

I’m not sure which hat I like best… but one definitely took LONGER than the other one… maybe it’s my favorite! :o)

My pictures are fairly decent this time, but I’d really like to see what it looks like in natural daylight! I might have to give it a try…

Don’t you think Nyssa looks pretty and grown up and sophisticated and a bit country and a bit of a gypsy all wrapped up in one? Somehow I do!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Oh, yes, it’s just Perfect, Jeanne!! Love the waist accents, and both hats! So cute!! Someone is going to be Very happy with this outfit!!

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I’m glad you think it’s perfect! You aren’t sline…Nyssa is right there with you!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I love your dress for Nyssa. She does look sophisticated, bohemian, and country. The black and cream suit her coloring and style.

    1. Thank you Lynn,
I’m very pleased with the way Nyssa dress turned out…sophisticated, country, bohemian? Whatever…it suits her just fine!
      Thanks Lynn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Wow, this outfit turned out just wonderfully and fits Nyssa’s personality so well. Jeanne! I love black and white to begin with, but thinking about it, I don’t have any black and white for my dolls! Funny!
Oh, the flower around her waist just takes the cake, but wait, there is the darling choker, which is the cherry on top! The hat is just perfect, although, for Nyssa, because of her dark hair, I think the cream hat shows better on her. A doll with light hair would show off the black hat better. That’s a plus! Love them both though, and both do work well. This one is a winner!

    1. HI Linda,
It’s funny, just about every dress in my closet is black and white! :o) I REALLY like black and white on ME and my DOLLS!
The black hat doesn’t show up great in my pictures but in person it does. I’m glad I finished the cream hat too, as it does look sweet with the dress.
Thanks so much for your compliments Linda…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I’m so glad that Nyssa got a new dress, since Kaye Wiggs dolls are the only ones that I collect and sew for anymore. You are so lucky to have Nyssa! I bought that dress pattern recently and now I am inspired to try it out. Just need to go out and find a couple coordinating prints. The black works so well with your Nyssa and the two different prints work well together without being confusing or busy. Your additions today make everything complete and just lovely! I like both hats but maybe the white one a little better with the outfit. The choker is a nice touch, especially with her long and lovely neck. Kaye Wiggs doll bodies are so nice to sew for.

    1. Thank you Mary,
It’s been so long since I made anything for Nyssa, I’m ashamed of myself. She is such a lovely doll and I totally agree with you about Kaye’s dolls having the nicest bodies. I love the feel the smooth resin on Nyssa!! Thanks for your compliments on this set. I hope to get it listed soon.
      Thanks so very much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Jeanne, you amaze me with your detailed eye for all of those wonderful additions you add to your ensembles for the dolls. Your skill surely shows on this ensemble (as well as all of the previous ones you’ve made). Wow, as Linda said, this is a winner, but then again, in my opinion, all of your outfits are. I so enjoy seeing your giftedness come through your creations and what a joy that you share them all with us. You make life so nice for those of us who get to share it with you.

    Blessings.

    1. Awww Becky,
You are too kind with your compliments. Thank you very much and I’m so glad you enjoy seeing my creations come to life. It’s so much fun for me to be able to share them with you.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Your creative finishing touches have made this one perfection. Nyssa will be putting up a big fight to keep it. Both of the hats are so cute with the dress. I’m extremely partial to the cream one though with the dark haired wig. I can just see the black one with jeans and a top for another look. Hope you have a pic of the crown of the hat too. Hard to see the finishing detail on top. And the long tailed waist tie with the flower just ties it all together. 🙂 That choker is a perfect addition too. Even if Nyssa isn’t running in the meadow, your photos are wonderful. A big wow on this one. Can’t wait to see the listing. You have been very busy.

    1. HI Joy,
Thank you, too, for your compliments on Nyssa new dress aet. It was fun trying out Erica”s new pattern.
You might be right about Nyssa not wanting to give this one up. She really likes it a lot!!

The heat index is supposed to be 95 degrees today but I’d like to at least get a few pictures outside..just to see what natural light looks like.
      Thank you, Joy…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Dear Jeanne, what a lovely dress. Nyssa looks divine! I like the cream hat best.
You had so many nice “touches” on this dress. I am beginning to see that details make things nicer. I guess it’s like crown molding. (I watch way too many decorating shows. -laugh)
I can’t wait to see your next creation.

    1. HI Dorothy,
Thank you for your kind comments about Nyssa’s dress. I really love looking at her in this set. It’s been too long since I sewed for her and I need to keep her in my regular lineup!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Love Dorothy’s comment about the extra touches being like crown molding…that is sure the truth. All the little extras make this one of my top 10 favorites. The hats are perfect…how are you going to choose?
Will be interesting to see how the daylight affects the black fabric in pictures.
    Enjoy your day.

    1. Hi Kathie,
I just listed this dress on Ebay…or rather “scheduled” it to go on about 8:35… so you’ll see how I solved the hat dilemma! :o)
I started to take some outdoor pics, but a wind and rain storm blew up…so I had to move back inside.. the pictures turned out okay.. I used a trick Susette told me about.. .put something sheer over the lights I have to block the glare of the light on her skin… she looks so pretty and grown up… where is my “little girl Nyssa?”
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I just bought several of the “Bohemian” clothing patterns for different size dolls from Luminaria. I love the look. Nyssa’s dress is absolutely beautiful and you did a wonderful job on it. I love the contrasting fabrics and all the added accessories.

    1. Thank you Barbara,
I enjoyed using Erica’s pattern this time… It fit Nyssa really well and I will definitely make her another dress from it. I’m glad you liked the looks of all the fabrics together… well, actually just 2 fabrics… :o)
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Jeanne I love the outfit. I am partial to the black hat-I don’t know why. I think they are both lovely and having both the hats makes the dress look different-they give it a different vibe. It’s beautiful. I like it on Nyssa. God bless

    1. HI Carole,
I’m so happy everyone seems to like this dress on Nyssa… she does wear it very well, I think! I was drawn initially to the black hat, until everyone said they liked the cream one.. I don’t know which one I like best now.. maybe both! :o)
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments,
      Blessings to you, Jeanne

  11. You’ve certainly come through again with wonderful details. The hats are just great. You really are a very accomplished seamstress and designer. You really should think about offering patterns, especially for the hats. Six gores instead of four really make the hats very professional. You are right as usual by not overdoing the lace. What a lucky person it will be who wins this ensemble.

    1. HI Susette,
Thank you for your kind comments about Nyssa’s dress. I enjoyed making this one a lot! I used your tip about putting something over the lights to diffuse the brightness against Nyssa’s slick resin skin and it worked pretty well. I went outside, but it was too windy and then it started raining…ugh… So I moved inside and tried to take good pictures. It’s going on Ebay this evening…
The hats actually have 7 gores to them…not 6… It does fit very well on Nyssa’s head.
Maybe one of these days I’ll offer patterns….maybe… :o)
      Thanks so much Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Oh yes, that sash and flower on the waist are perfect. The accessories all make this dress extra special!

  13. Another winner! This is a beautiful dress. I looked up the pattern too — it comes in all kinds of sizes, and it would be too bad to make just one, now that you’ve figured out the directions and a few new tricks as well. I think your black and cream is prettier than any of the other versions of this dress, and the choker is such a wonderful touch. I’m on the black hat team — I love the embroidery. The cream hat is a great alternative and probably nicer for spring.
I think this is going to be one of the favorites for all time.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Yes, Erica’s pattern does come in a variety of sizes for just about any doll imaginable! She must have some kind of a program that resizes the patterns from one doll to another!

Thanks for telling me how much you like this dress, Marilyn. It just might be one of my favorites for Nyssa… She certainly deserved a pretty dress after living in her box for at least a year or more! Poor baby! I really should sew for her more! Really I should!
It was hard to know when to stop on this one.. I could have made arm sleeves out of lace, and then leggings for her… she could have had a long strappy bag too… but I had to stop and get it listed…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Hi Jeanne!
Actually I do the resizings on Adobe Illustrator by scaling up and down and then I take a long time to tweak them so that they fit perfect. I am a fit freak so I won’t take automatic resizing! 🙂

  14. Nyssa must be so happy to get out of her box and be dressed in something so beautiful. She will not want to go back in and I see a fight over her new dress being sold and putting put back in there. I have a feeling she just might win.

The dress and all the attention to details is gorgeous. I am very partial to black and white also and it’s my go to color in clothing and decorating. She looks beautiful in the color and print. Both hats are adorable but I think I like the black one best and the embroidery is so pretty. The entire outfit looks like sophisticated bohemian if there is such a thing.
