HI everyone,
I’m sorry there hasn’t been a post for a few days… it’s been a little crazy around here. I was going to do a post for Saturday, but as I was walking to the computer Friday night, I just turned around and went to bed, telling my hubby, “I just can’t write anything… I’m too tired.” Without going into too much detail, my hubby woke up Thursday morning in horrible pain and had me get his walker from the attic. It’s the only way he can shuffle his feet along and go about the house. (he spends most of his time in his recliner… it’s just too painful to walk) We had a home health care nurse come by on Friday morning and when she saw how much pain he was in and how he wasn’t able to walk on his own, she called and got him an appointment right away. I had to get a wheelchair for him for the CAT scan… The doctor called us that evening and told us that it was a large hematoma and could take up to 6 weeks to go away… UGH! My hubby is miserable… pain from his surgery, pain from the stoma site, he’s having to give himself shots in his thighs to prevent blood clots, and now he’s got this horrible groin bruise that he’s having to deal with… We go back to St. Louis on Wednesday, and hopefully we’ll get some answers and help…
Someone bought a pair of my fingerless gloves and it got me to thinking…in light of all this miserable-ness, I decided it was time for something pretty and fun… and decided to show something I don’t think I’ve done a post on before. I’m sure many of you have seen these pictures before but this time I’m going to showcase as many as I can of dresses with fingerless gloves… I figure you’ll all be happy with anything dolly related… I’ll just make this like a slide show… I hope you enjoy them…
Okay, you know I have to ask… do you have a favorite?

Oh Jeanne, I am so sorry to hear about this setback! I was so hoping everything would just fall into place perfectly, and George would be in tip-top shape in no time. After seeing him last week, it certainly looked like that would be the case. He looked wonderful! Well, I guess life stepped in and there are still hurdles to overcome. Prayers have been and still are coming for you both. Stay strong!
You fingerless gloves are so pretty, and I had no idea you made some in colors. Maybe those were the ones that come with the dress when you sell it? The first lavender pair are just beautiful! My favorites are the first and sixth pictures, both Elizabeth, in Regency gowns with the gloves.
I have bought several pairs of gloves from you, and they certainly do provide the finishing touch for Cecile and Felicity’s gowns. They are so sweet and delicate, reasonably priced, and give the outfits the perfect look! What more can I say?
So sorry to hear about George’s problems. Please don’t hesitate to be seen at an emergency room sooner if necessary. Wednesday is a long way off. Not to even think about the blog when things aren’t going well. We’ll still be here and hoping for the best.
I would never have thought to share this story except for your excitement which makes ours seem extremely tame, which it was to begin with. My son and family just moved to Texas from WV. We are visiting to help out. My grandson came into the kitchen and said, “There’s a frog in the toilet in your bathroom, Nana.” Of course I had trouble believing he was serious as he sometimes jokes as five year olds do. I was picturing a bullfrog at least the size of my fist. Fortunately it turned out to be the tiniest thing that could possibly qualify as a frog, a little green guy less than the size of a quarter, clinging up under the rim. We suppose he got in when the movers had the doors open all day, bringing things in and found the closest water source. Not in any hurry to top Jeanne’s story the other day.
Hi Jeanne, Sure hope George is much better than on Thursday, was so sorry to hear about the pain he is in. Praying every day is an improvement and one step closer to complete recovery – and for you too!
I agree with Susette, you have so much going on right now please don’t worry about us. We will be here. Don’t forget to take care of yourself, it’s so easy for the caregiver to get worn out / down. Take some time for yourself when you can, even if it is a short trip to the store by yourself. I well remember that time is so important.
Loved your slide show today. I have always thought the gloves are a very important part of the Regency period. So happy to see pics of Elizabeth, my favorite. Since you asked, I like # 1 and # 4 the best, although I love them all.

I’m so sorry to hear George is dealing with so much pain. Prayers certainly continuing on this end. Hopefully his Wednesday doctor appointment well find him feeling better.
The dresses are all so lovely it’s very difficult to pick a favorite. I have a proclivity toward white dresses so #9 with #15 a close 2nd, love the bonnet!

Sounds like George’s old football injury is acting up. Did he ever play football? Just kidding. Nothing like another glitch added to all that has occurred. It is already Monday so your journey back to St. Louis will soon be here. That will be a long drive for him. Are you driving or a friend? And a big good job to George’s home nurse. So glad she was able to get an immediate appointment for him.
Elizabeth is her radiant self as usual. Love that #1 lilac on her.
Just more trivia, but your posts are still not arriving in my email like they used to. I have to remember to go looking to see if you have posted.
Hope your week goes well and George’s pain subsides.
I agree that if there’s time to be had, taking some for yourself is necessary, but that’s what you just did. You took a break to look at some of your beautiful work and enjoy it and share it with us. I’m so happy that you did.
You also realized that on Friday night you were too tired to write and you didn’t. I think you are showing excellent judgement under circumstances that are very painful.
You might tell George that my very independent father, who made his own cement blocks and milled his own lumber to build our house, said that his walker was one of the best investments he ever made. When you need one, nothing else is half as useful.
I’m very fond of the tiered dresses with ribbons. I also really like the one that looks like beige and white checks and may be a fabric that’s woven to look that way. The trim is perfect on that. My very favorite is the last one. I’ve never seen the black and silver, and the black gloves are perfect for it. There isn’t one that, if you reproduced it, I wouldn’t bid on.
Dear Jeanne, I like Addy’s pink dress ensemble the best.
I am so sorry to hear of the latest challenges. Being uncomfortable is awful being in pain is worse. Our prayers continue.
Don’t worry about us. We are sitting on the sofa just talking. We are waiting for Susette to tell us what happened to the baby frog.
I’m still praying for both of you. Poor George! I feel for him as pain can be hard to bear.
I love the dolly slide show. There were a few I don’t remember seeing befor, so that’s always fun. Gosh, that pink ensemble with the bonnet that Cecile is modeling is sure pretty. I think it’s my favorite although second place would be the ninth picture—the white dress with the embroidery detail.
Dear Jeanne, so sorry to hear of George’s pain and trauma from the surgery. Hopefully, the doctors will have something better to manage it with on Wednesday.
The dollies in their dresses are just lovely. Naturally, I love “Springtime in the South” which I will forever recognize. I also really like the all white Regency gown on Elizabeth, but I think the last one is my favorite. Blue and white is so cool and refreshing. We have had the hottest May on record, yet today it’s only mid 70’s.
I asked Susette what happened to the frog. The house has a lovely garden and one of the braver guests carefully captured the frog and transferred it to the flower beds, where it was last seen happily cruising and probably looking for dinner.
Thank you so much Marilyn for the frog followup. I was hoping for that ending.
I was, too. Susette has a lovely fairy garden with all kinds of houses and accessories, so now she has a “fairy frog” to live there as well. 🙂
When you asked about favorite, I immediately thought of the white with pink ribbons, but when I looked back another time I realized I liked them all. On a scale of 1 to 10 all but 2 are 15’s! And those two were just because I really liked the others more. Your attention to detail, accessorizing, and embroidery/sewing skills really make your sets stand out. And now they make me want to sew for Elizabeth (and Addy, Josefina, and Felicity). (I was also trying to figure out which doll was the model for the black and white outfit near the end because her hair and hair contrast is lovely.)
PS My husband had prostate surgery 5+ years ago and was given an “all clear” in January. I’m sorry your husband has these extra burdens which can be really painful with everything you two have to deal with in the first place. However, there can be / will be some wonderful future times coming around the bend. I hope they arrive soon!

I think all the outfits are lovely but I am especially taken by the second to the last photo with the black and white dress and the pretty little black gloves. They look so lovely on her pale skin and I just really like the overall look.

It’s Wednesday — time for your return to the hospital where we hope you and George receive good news. This part of the adventure hasn’t been fun, but I hope the medical people can tell you that George is doing even better than expected. No one has had more love, better care, and more prayers, and that should have some results. It’s going to be a long day. You’ve made it through the first week, and surely that’s the hardest one. We’ll all be thinking of you.

You did exactly the right thing Friday night, by going to BED instead of staying up to write in your blog! We all understand those “can’t do another thing” times, so don’t think a thing about it!!
I am so sorry George has yet another challenge to deal with! Thank goodness that nurse took some action so at least you know what was causing the pain, and how long it might continue to be a problem. Prayers continue.
Now, as to favorites, my favorite all-around is #12, the lilac print; I also love #4, the all-white regency gown. My favorite GLOVES, though, are on #13–they are long, and have fingers/thumbs! So very elegant!
It is now Wednesday, and I am not sure if you will be reading this, Jeanne, but we are still with you, if only in our thoughts, as you make the trek back to St. Louis. You and George are both such an inspiration to all of us, and we wish you a good visit with the doctors as you complete your first week of post-surgery. It can only get better, right?
