What is your favorite room in your house?

Hi everyone,
We are back home again and it feels wonderful! We got home about 5:30 this evening and it’s been non stop planning and unpacking and getting things in order. I don’t mean with my house…but with medicines, and bandages, and instructions and food. My hubby is glad to be home but we’re going to have to figure out how to do things around here as he isn’t going to be allowed to do more than pick up a gallon of milk for the next 6 weeks. He’s very sore and slow moving right now. We are both very very tired and hope to catch up on some much needed sleep over the next few days.

Rebecca has been holding down the fort while we’ve been gone and she did a great job. But she’s tired too… It’s all Reuben’s fault! He likes to go out late at night to p–p and he likes to go out early to p–. She’s been doing both…sometimes getting awakened at 1:30a.m. to go out and then at 5:30a.m. I think she’s as tired as we are. She told me she’d take the morning “shift” if I could do the “night” shift… I agreed so I had to take Reuben out this evening at 11:00p.m. The later we take him out the longer he sleeps in the morning.

Anyway, I’ll share more later, but now I’m just looking to get to bed. We go back to St. Louis next Wednesday. UGH!
I’m glad to be back but I’ll go ahead and let my last 2 scheduled posts run… I just added this at the top of Wednesdays post.

Thanks for all your fun responses about the fashions you talked about. I really enjoyed reading them and saw a few that I had forgotten about…shoulder pads and leisure suits! EEK!!! I have wide shoulders so I really didn’t need to wear shoulder pads, but I did wear my fair share of them…I remember cutting them out of things when they went out of style and they were in a big bag… I’m sure I was going to use them for something, but I think I finally took the whole bag to the thrift shop.

Yes, it’s still “question time” for a bit longer… I hope you haven’t minded… and I hope you’ve joined in…

Today’s question is… “What is your favorite room in your house?”

I bet you know my answer! Yep, my new kitchen…it’s not even finished yet, and it’s already my favorite. Maybe it’s because it’s new, or maybe it’s because I waited almost 14 years for it to be remodeled, or maybe it’s because it “really is that pretty” and easily a favorite. Whatever the reason… at least for now, it’s my kitchen!

I hope you have a favorite room in your house… we’d love to hear about it…

See you when I can,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I’m so, so HAPPY to hear you are home, Jeanne! I was thinking about you all day, and figured that you would be driving home, so said a little prayer every once in awhile during the day. I wonder if you got caught in the rain? We didn’t have much here, but it did get cooler, although still humid. Anyway, I’m just glad that you are home and so is everyone else, I’m sure!
My favorite room? I would say my kitchen too! That’s where I spend most of my time, although my doll room is a close second. I have almost all windows and sliding glass doors on one side of the kitchen, where we can look out to our yard, and it is like a big park, because other yards all meet together. We can see wildlife, the change of seasons, the sunset, can see if a thunderstorm is approaching, and my flowers I plant.
It’s the place where company gathers, since the dining area is combined with the kitchen, where we have had birthday parties, graduations parties, and just visits with friends. In fact, I think it looks just like a “grandma kitchen” should look, friendly and cheerful!

  2. My big wide open kitchen with an island cook top and a pantry wall full of cabinets. It looks south to a wall full of windows out into our back yard and at night you can see the lights of town.

  3. So very glad to hear you are finally back home, I bet your own bed felt like heaven. You both need to take your time and rest and fall into your new routine. I, like many others, have enjoyed your thoughtful posts.

Well, they say the kitchen is the heart of the home and although it’s only me and my husband now it still is my favorite. I love to garden so out the “front” I can see the flowering trees in spring, then the perennials and we have bird feeders & a bath there so we are always entertained by our feathered friends. Out the “back” window is the patio and the small bay and more flowers. We love watching the ducks and migrating water fowl. The views are wonderful but also remind us of work to be done although I can tolerate a few more weeds then I used to. Sewing / craft room comes in at a close 2nd but right now it Really needs some attention but it will have to wait for a rainy day.
Say Hi to George and God Bless

  4. So happy to hear you are home. Get some much needed rest! My favourite room is our converted living room to my sewing room. Our house has 2 living rooms. One upstairs and a den downstairs and I’m the only one who uses the upstairs one so we made it into my sewing room with lots of big windows and natural light.

That sounds heavenly, Christine! My best friend’s sewing room was created over their two-car (plus extra space) garage. It’s absolutely fabulous! It’s my “home away from home”! LOL (yeah…..2000 miles away from home. )

  5. Welcome home! I’m hoping you both get the needed rest/respite you deserve!
My favorite room isn’t where I spend the most time…. I end up staying in the living room with mom, most of the time – but, when I can – I ‘escape’ to the sewing/doll/dulcimer family room downstairs. All my ‘favorite things’ are there, and I enjoy my time there SO much.I am working on making an outside patio area off the sewing/doll/dulcimer room, tho…and expect to make some good use of THAT soon! (hopefully!)

  6. So Jeanne, as you and George pulled into the driveway did you see all of us waving! What a wonderful day. So happy to hear you made it. Now, to get organized and get some much needed rest. If you have some jobs for friends, please let them help and not try to do everything yourself. Lots of adjustments, but being home is delightful. I’ll bet Reuben turned himself inside out when you both arrived. Those crazy critters.
Enjoying the descriptions of favorite rooms. I would simply love to see photos of each one. We’re still piled up with boxes around here with no place to store them. All the things from mother in laws home. We’re dealing with realtors now, and when that is complete and we don’t have to maintain extra homes, we will be able to make our house presentable once more. My favorite room is our deck. Outside, sitting and watching the birds at the feeder and taking in the view of the hills.
Make sure George doesn’t do to much today even thought he may want to and delight in your lovely new kitchen.

  7. Easily, my favorite room in the house is my sewing room! Nobody else goes in there..just me, the dolls, my sewing equipment, props, bins and bins of fabric…its definitely my HAPPY PLACE where I can shut out the world for a few hours and just be me..and create:)

Glad you and George are home for a few days! It will be a big adjustment for awhile, but you’ll both find your rhythm and pace, and life will resume as normally as possible:) Continued prayers for both of you!

  8. Yay! I’m really glad you both got to come home. There’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed and having all your own things around you.
My favorite room is my sewing room. It’s often a mile-high mess, but it’s where I go to de-stress and do my own thing. Funny thing, after reading other people’s comments, I think the kitchen is my least favorite room. I knew when I bought the house that I would never love the narrow galley-style kitchen, but I didn’t realize at the time just how much I would dislike it. Unfortunately, there is no way to reconfigure it so I am living with it.

  9. So glad to hear that you are back home safe and sound. I’ve read all the posts and fun answers, just been too busy to comment on many of them
As for my favorite room in the house- it would be a toss up between my bedroom and the sunroom. My bedroom is the one room that I can have decorated etc just the way I want and that where my dolls are as well.
I love the sunroom because it is the room of perpetual summer- periwinkle blue and white with my antique Victorian loveseat and rocker ( special birthday gift from years ago ) and antique wooden table and chairs where I can enjoy breakfast with the sun streaming in all the windows. It also in the room where I can craft and create, although I do have to put things away afterwards.
Prayers for George on his road to recovery.

  10. My favorite room is my living room. It has a cathedral ceiling with a large balcony loft above half of it. There is a sliding glass door to the trellis-covered patio where the orchids, fairy gardens and Japanese maple trees live with no curtains on the window, just the fence 12 feet out for privacy. Some of the pictures I send sometimes show one corner of my living room below another window onto the other side of the patio. Lots of light in the morning but protected from the heat in the afternoon.

So glad you are home. I know Reuben is one happy dog. George, too. Jeanne and Rebecca, too.

  11. Hi everyone,
Well, it seems like the kitchen truly is the heart of the home with many of you, followed closely by a sewing room if you have one. My sewing room is definitely one of my favorite rooms…it’s just that my attention has been so focused on the kitchen lately.
We are trying to catch up on some rest so we’ve mostly been laying around…it’s nice!
My hubby is moving slowly around the house and getting stronger each day. There truly is no place like home.
    Thanks everyone,
    Blessings, Jeanne

Like Shara said, my sewing room is MY happy place, too! It’s a mess, but it’s MY mess, and I’m the only one who looks at it! It’s where I go when I’m happy, and when I’m not. Sometimes I just go in and pet fabric, other times I do something specific. After my dad died, I had a “dry spell”, and sometimes just going in there to iron something was soothing.

I’m so glad you are both home again, and I hope you are having a good sleep in your own bed right now! Step one of the recovery-from-cancer process is completed; on to step two. Prayers continue.
