I’m still asking questions instead of sewing or showing my remodeled kitchen… no time for either lately… and I’m probably going to be busy even at home for a while. But I’ve got a few more questions that I thought of and hope you’ll play along a little longer. I hope you’ve enjoyed the answers everyone has given. I’ll be back when I can…
This question has to do with fashion… “What is a fashion trend you are really glad went away?” Perhaps it was the mini skirt or bell bottoms, or maybe it was big print dresses? Maybe you disliked sweater dresses, or cowl necks, or caftan dresses? There are a million things that have come and gone… and some of the goners were dreadful… let’s hear what you think…
One of these days I’ll have a post with a doll in a “fashionable” dress on and won’t we all smile??? :o)
I’ll see you when I can,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a fun question for today, Jeaane! There are several fashions I’m glad went away!
1–the polyester leisure suit (for men)–weren’t they awful?! The gaudier the plaid, the better, it seemed at the time!*
2–maxi-dresses. Wearing floor-length dresses all but special/formal occasions was impractical and even cumbersome!
3–Corsets and bustles. I’m glad I came on the scene long after these were gone! I’ve heard about all kinds of health issues those corsets caused, and of course they both caused a highly unnatural-looking shape!
* I have to confess that, as a newlywed in 1974-75, I made my husband a leisure jacket of green, patchwork-printed polyester doubleknit!! And he Wore it!!! Wasn’t he styling?! LOL I may still have a little of that fabric somewhere….UGH!!
Oh, yes, polyester plaid anything was just awful, in my humble opinion too! But those leisure jackets were so easy to sew, since they didn’t really have to fit like a normal suit jacket would. I guess we thought we were saving money and being “crafty” at the same time!! Thank heavens that went away!
And those horrible shoulder pads that made everyone look like a football player!! It was always my mistake that one of them was folded in two, making me look lopsided, and not really noticing it until I was out someplace, then how to fix it discreetly without anyone noticing?? That and those clunky looking shoes, although I am thinking clunky shoes now are the thing to get for comfort!!
I’m still in a happy place after meeting you, Jeanne. You are the sweetest person and have the cutest smile! Oh, I do hope you and George get to go home today, where you both belong!! How exciting it will be for the two of you, and I can’t imagine how excited Rueben will be when he sees you both back again, if not today, surely soon!
Have a safe trip back and take your time. Wouldn’t that be wonderful if all of us were waiting for you as you pull in the driveway cheering you on? We will be with you in spirit, if nothing else!
Glad to hear that George is doing good and I continue to pray for you all!
As for your question, bell bottoms are gladly gone. I think those and the big lapels on shirts and jackets of the 70’s are just atrocious!
Bell bottoms and clogs and large lapel jackets and shirts. I didn’t like them then and I still don’t like them even though I had a pair of jean bell bottoms myself. It seems like in the 70’s, everything was a statement. Some of the TV shows from back then certainly filled the screen with those styles: The Brady Bunch, Columbo.
Glad to hear that George is doing well. Hope you can both go home soon.
This question really makes me think. And I’m drawing a blank! All those fun styles from years past are running through my head. I don’t think there were any that I didn’t enjoy at some point. And how I love the vintage stuff. From 40’s hats to the 20’s bead work bags. All possible because something new came into fashion. I love seeing Jeanne’s photos of vintage styles that she often includes in her posts. I guess you might say that I love fashion, even though you might not be able to tell as I pull on my jeans, t-shirt, and Nike’s, my daily garb.
Looking forward to Jeanne and George returning home. I’ll be standing there in the driveway along with Linda and everyone else waving, holding up big signs, and cheering.
Hi Jeanne,
I’m so happy to hear of George’s excellent progress and it’s wonderful to hear you may be able to go home today. Fingers crossed for you!
I feel bad I haven’t played along with your fun questions. You know I love your blog and never miss it. I read all the comments too mostly when there’s a quiet moment. Babysitting takes a toll on this old Nana! Most evenings after he goes home I am to pooped to even move. Today I’m having my tea with you and the ladies here before he arrives. I’ve watered the garden and all my potted plants and tended to Harley (my lab) and Madison (my cat) needs. I just remembered I need to run the vac before he gets here so I’m off in a minute.
I agree with Charlotte on Corsets… I couldn’t imagine having to wear one just for that cinched in waist that all women coveted back in those days. No wonder women fainted LOL
Continued prayers for you and George
Hugs
Ingrid
I’m so glad to hear that George is progressing. Going home will be a big step and I am sure you both will rest better there.
Fashion that I am glad is gone — parachute pants. Enough said about those.
Hope today is a great day!
Take care —
What a fun question. It had me remembering all the styles I have worn during my lifetime. I think I will have to agree with Joy and say I enjoyed all of them when they were fashionable. The styles that look so tacky to me now looked awesome to me when I was the one wearing them. The only styles I have found truly objectionable were those showing too much skin, for instance, the bare midriffs or anything too low cut, whether at the waist or at the neckline
There is a current fashion trend I hope will go away soon… The tops that ladies/girls are wearing that have the shoulders cut out. They have sleeves, but the shoulders are bare. What’s up with that? Sorry if I offend anyone who is currently wearing one, or owns one… 🙂
I hate them, too, Theresa–I think they just look dumb! It’s called the “cold shoulder” look–and it sure leaves me cold! LOL
