Fabric Gift Bags with a sweet treat inside…

HI everyone,
Big news!!! I made it into my sewing room today! Hooray! I’m sure you said it too! A few posts back I mentioned that I always bless my top three doll dress buyers from the previous year with something for helping my business out! I usually try and get these gifts made and sent out in January. (sorry winners!) I’ve made lots of different things in the past few years, usually trying to make something using the fabrics of the doll dresses they bought from me. I wanted this to be a surprise to the winners, but now they’ll know they are the winner when they recognize the fabrics. But, I decided to go ahead and show them… “just so you’d know I DO remember how to sew!”

I was looking on Pinterest for a fun “fabric gift” and these little bags caught my eye. She had a tutorial for them, so I modified them just slightly for the size I wanted. You can see her tutorial HERE… I was going to take pictures of the steps, and I might show my own version one of these days, but I was trying to get them done this afternoon so I could get them out in the mail tomorrow.

Here are my bags. I won’t tell which one is for the #1 buyer, or the #2 buyer or the #3 buyer… and will leave just a little bit of “mystery” for the winners!

They were fairly quick to make and it’s a great way to use up scraps you might have. They are lined and the drawstring pulls up the opening and stays closed.

Now, do you want to see what’s inside?

Instead of my Brownies in a Jar… I made some “Brownies in a Bag!” They are just the same as the ones you see HERE. It’s also a tutorial on how to make them…

They are all packaged up and ready to be taken to the Post Office tomorrow…

Thank you again to my top 3 buyers in 2017! I appreciate your (and everyone else’s) business and hope you’ll enjoy your brownies!

See you when I can,
Blessings, Jeanne

Yup, I said (well, thought, anyway) hooray, too, when I saw you had managed to get back in your sewing room!! And didn’t that feel Good?!

Your bags are lovely, and the brownie mix is a great idea–in the zip lock bag, it should travel quite well.

Congratulations to the winners–and to you, Jeanne, for getting some sewing done!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
It was a small sewing project but I really enjoyed myself back at my machine!!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a clever and thoughtful idea, Jeanne! I do remember some of the fabrics that were made into dresses, and it is amazing that you were able to piece those fabrics together for the people who bought those dresses! I love how you decorated the bags with trims and pieces of lace! What lucky ladies they are!
The brownie mix in a bag is a wonderful gift too, and it doesn’t matter what time of the year you get it………..it is just right! You could also use Christmas fabric for Christmas gift giving, with the brownie mixture inside, patriotic fabrics for the 4th or, Memorial Day, Halloween fabrics for Oct. and fall. Of course there are many other possibilities once you get to thinking about them. I wonder how big the bags are that you have made. Do you have the dimensions?
Thank you for sharing what your top three buyers are getting, and that you made it back to the sewing room, if only for a little bit!

    1. Hi Linda,
It’s much easier to ship the brownie mix in the quart size zip lock freezer bags instead of in the glass quart jars. The fabric pieces I cut were 9 x 12″ with about half of one piece being the “decorated” part.
They would be great gifts any time of the year and for any occasion.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I know it felt sooooo good yo gee back into your sewing room! Mine is my escape from the outside world.. if only for a few hours:!
Your little gift bags are adorable! Ill have to check out thr tutorial:)

My granddaughter turned 15 last week. I have been
Teaching her to sew for over a year, whenever she’s able to come for a sleepover. This time i wanted to surprise her with something already made. She loves floral printed linens so I made her a long torso semi circle skirt and shopped for the perfect tee/cami/tank knit tops. All in shades of greyed blue, silvered sage and pale aqua to go with the tones of the skirt. Her daddy (my son) is picking it up today.. can’t wait to see her wearing it!
Quite a change from doll fashions & 1/4” seams:)!

    1. Hi Shara,
I’m like you in that my sewing room has always been my escape from the rest of things going on in my life, but lately with my kitchen needing my time and getting ready for my hubby’s upcoming surgery, it’s been hard to get in there. It did feel nice to be at my machine though!
How sweet of you to make your granddaughter a fun skirt. I’m sure she’ll love it…send me a picture if you feel comfortable with me showing her in it. We’d love to see what it looks like and see the smile on her face.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Your kind gesture to thank the top three winners each year is admirable and certainly very generous on your part. How fun for you to be able to step back into your sewing room and make up these beautiful bags. I think these gifts are so heartwarming….gifts that emphasize your’s and many other women’s hearts-fabric/sewing and food beautifully combined.

    Blessings.

    1. Hi Becky,
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the fabric bags I made for a few ladies. It was fun finding the scraps from each dress…some of those pieces are the only scraps I could find…. and then putting the bags together.
I LOVE to give handmade gifts so this was right up my alley!!
      Thank you Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Oh what a lovely gift idea. I can see that useful bag filled with socks and undies all ready to tuck into a travel bag. Would be perfect so that they wouldn’t become lost in the depths of a suitcase. Or maybe a place to stow dolly essentials like hair clips, brush, and bands. I’m sure there are hundreds of other ideas of how to use your gift bags. Great idea.
I believe that July 4th will be upon us quite soon now. Perhaps it will be possible to make one of your girls something to celebrate the day or summer in general. Looking forward to your next sewing adventure.

    1. Hi Joy,
You’re right…the bags could be used for quite a few different things…you had some great ideas!
I’m looking forward to my next sewing adventure too!! Don’t know when or who will be the fortunate recipient of it, but one of these days I’ll have a surprise!
      Thank you Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The bags are lovely! What a sweet idea. I’m glad you had a chance to do some sewing.
Hope you have a great day!
    Take care —

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing my latest sewing project…even though it was just a small thing…
      I did enjoy it!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Those fabric gift bags are very pretty and once the treat is gone the bags can be reused to store something in. It’s so kind that the top three buyers get an extra something and who doesn’t like brownies. I saw a brownie pan awhile back that was made in a zigzag pattern so that each brownie had two chewy edges. The corner pieces are always my top pick.
I bet it felt nice to get back into your sewing room even if for only a small window of time.

    1. Hi Laura,
It did feel “normal” and “right” to be sitting at my sewing machine again. I did enjoy myself!!

I’ve seen those brownie pans and I like an edge piece too! Isn’t it funny to have a special pan just for that? :o)
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. These are so cute and useful, too. Thanks for showing them to us. I made some for Christmas with a kind of net fabric with snowflakes on it that you could see through. Drawstrings are tricky so I’ll take a look at the instructions. I just winged it.

    1. Hi Susette,
I think I’ll show a tutorial on my bags sometime because even this lady’s tutorial wasn’t as detailed as it could have been. The bags do make wonderful and practical gifts…even by themselves!
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing them…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne
