I did a few things in my kitchen today, but they are too boring to show. I painted the trim boards that will go up on the ceiling…boring to show those! I painted the bead board sheets that are already on the ceiling…another boring picture. We fixed 2 areas up in the corners that had to have a piece of shiplap cut and fit in the hole. A third boring picture.
So I decided to skip all the boring shots and go for something pretty… how about another dress you might not have seen before. I made a list of the ones that I saw when I was transferring my pictures over to my new computer, and this one was on my “never shown” list. I hope I’m right and I hope you enjoy it.
Addy’s dress was made in April, 2007… a long time ago! You can see I needed to learn a few things about taking pictures! But I hope you enjoy it anyway. This was my description of the dress on Ebay when I listed it.
Addy’s momma had made her a new dress because she’d been asked to sing a solo in the choir at church. Addy was so excited but she was very nervous. What if she made a mistake…what if she forgot the words…what if nothing came out of her mouth…
If you click on the pictures, they get really big!
This darling dress is made to look like a two piece suit, but it’s really just one.
(The red fabric isn’t quite as red as the pictures make it appear. It’s a clear crisp print, but red is very hard to photograph.)
It looks very 1860’s. The bodice has the typical scoop yoke and is embellished with a pretty white lace. A wavy black trim finishes off the edges. Three tiny black buttons decorate the front and a black bow is nestled right in the middle of the bodice.
White lace stands up next to Addy’s neck and her short puffed sleeves have a cuff. The dress is fully lined and closes in the back with snaps.
This original design of mine features a lovely curved peplum which is trimmed with the same black trim as the bodice. It gives Addy’s figure some girlish curves.
A full gathered skirt peeks out behind the peplum. It is just the perfect length for Addy.
The peplum continues around the back of the dress and curves up into the bodice. There is a tie belt to cinch up the waist.
Of course, there had to be a bonnet…
I hope you enjoyed seeing Addy in her church dress…oh, and I heard Addy sang just beautifully! :o)
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Very pretty! You always excel at the little details.
Regarding the kitchen — any progress is progress. Everything doesn’t necessarily have wow power. It’s all good.
Have a good day.
Take care –
What a pretty dress for Addy! I love your attention to detail. I think my favorite part might be the hat–it looks so nice on her thick head of hair!
I hadn’t seen this dress before. Addy always looks good in red — and any other color. She’s a great model. I especially liked the shot where you pulled back and we could see the reality behind your setting.
Charlotte A is right — progress is progress, and all of it matters. Whether it seems dull or not, we love hearing about what’s happening in your kitchen.
Yes, I too am very happy to hear about your kitchen progress. Those boring steps are blessed gifts to get completed to move on to more boring stuff and then…the cosmetic “top coats”. How nice to be getting this done before Spring really moves into our lives.
Addy is stunning in the original outfit you designed for her to wear singing at the church. The details and carefulness of your work always make for a splendid outfit for your dolls. I’m entranced by the beauty of the fruit of your labors.
May your day go well in and out of the kitchen!
Blessings.
You accomplished a lot yesterday. Painting the trim boards and the ceiling as well as filling in the spaces with beadboard takes a ton of time. I wondered how you were going to fill the missing areas. So, did you pull the cabinets to see if the old shiplap continued to the floor? Have you made any decisions on finishes? And your sewing space will become available in due time. Until then, so enjoying your remodel.
I heard Addy singing all the way here in CA. She has an amazing voice.
Addy looks so pretty in her outfit, Jeanne! I have never seen that before, but then I wasn’t into AG dolls that much for me. It was all about my granddaughters! Addy looks so pretty in red and I’m sure she looked lovely at church!
So things aren’t that earth shattering to show, but we know it takes time to make it all come together in the kitchen. I hope George isn’t too miserable with a cold, but my hubby has one too and maya be in a few days they will be feeling better. It’s nice to take some time off after a flurry of activity!
Addy’s outfit is very pretty and perfect for her to wear to sing in her church service. Your story is a sweet story. It’s neat how you made it look like a young lady’s suit from that era too. The material choice is so pretty with the black trim and I love her bonnet.
Hope you get lots done in the kitchen today !!
Addy looks so excited to sing …she’s the right age for the story your auction tells.
I’m so glad your kitchen is coming along.
It will really be a breath of fresh air when all finished. Our farm house was that same age when we lived there so I know about all the ” interesting” things that show up when you are remodeling. ??
Your dolly posts leave us anxious for more kitchen posts, and vice versa. Very clever, Jeanne! What dreamy and delightful dolly designs you’ve shared with us this week, and what a pleasure it is to view them. There is a quote that says, “The details are not the details. They make the design,” and your creations demonstrate just that. There are many outfits I had never seen before, which I think is a good reason to explore that book idea Joy keeps mentioning. 😉 (Just a little something to think about while your kitchen is in the midst of a remodel. Oh well, creative minds never sleep)! Blessings for whatever the day may hold, Jeanne.
Of course Addy sang beautifully wearing a dress like that!! Red is such a charming color on her. The whole dress is lovely and the peplum really adds a sweet detail. The bonnet is just beautiful.
So glad your kitchen is coming along. You will be so happy when it is finished. Painting my kitchen is going to be a spring project as well. I always use the no VOC paints, but still I’m waiting until it’s warm enough to have windows open. The weather here is very interesting, cold than a little warmer and then cold again. Today we had a snow shower the stuck, but then the sun came out and burned it all off. I’m more than ready for spring!!
Dear Jeanne, this is such a pretty dress. Addy is lucky to have you as her designer!
