I’ve always wanted a platinum blonde wig…

Wigs are pretty expensive though… I’ve been looking on Ebay recently for a nice long style and the last one I looked at was $25!

Oh, wait! You thought I meant a wig for ME? Oh, heaven’s NO…for my dolls! Fooled ya, didn’t I? :o)

After looking at them and seeing the different styles, I remembered one I had in my stash. Yes, I have a wig stash…It was really long and I have never used it. I put it on Nyssa once and even as tall and slender as she is, it just was too long…

Even though Emmie has darker eyelashes and eyebrows, I have wanted to see what she looked like in a really blonde wig and I thought, well, this is my chance to try it out on her.

See what I mean about it being REALLY long? If I stretch it just a tiny bit, it touches the floor when she has it on.

It’s not an expensive wig, but one of those mod acrylic ones, that sort of feels good, but they tend to have a mind of their own as far as the waves and curls go. One side can be stick straight and the other side will be flipped out. Generally, you can’t do anything about it.

I was determined to see if I could tame this wild thing! It was as long as Rapunzel’s wig, I think…

I tried braiding it… nope!

I tried piling it up on her head… nope! You should have seen how much was in the back!

So I decided to cut it! Surely it could be made into a workable wig for my girls.

When I got it to the length I wanted I tried it back on Emmie and it was so flyaway and again, wavy on one side and flippy on the other. So I decided to wet it and see what might happen…

I have a really low temp curling brush that doesn’t blow much and it still was determined to not lay smooth…

Then I remembered Rebecca had a ceramic flat iron that she sometimes straightens her hair with. I knew it could fry the hair if I turned it up too high, so I set it to a safe temperature…. 1… it was just barely warm, but after a little while of coaxing it to go under and become smooth… it happened!

This is actually a better picture of the color it is… it’s pretty platinum…and very sweet on Emmie!

Here’s the side and the back…

SO… I cut and styled a wig! What did YOU do today?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. It looks like maybe Emmie’s up next. A lot of blondes have darker eyebrows, and I think she looks great as a blonde, though I think she’d look great in a wig of any color. She is a lovely doll, and I think Lana did a beautiful job on her face and on her fingernails. You did a fine job on that wig. It looks better than the one that came with my LD.
Which comes next — the fabric or the design for the next dress? Someone yesterday suggested, if I remember correctly, a Little Bo Peep inspired dress, so I looked up “Greenaway little bo peep” on Google images and got lots of inspiration — Greenaway’s Regency period (including a mouse Little Bo Peep, I think by Wright), colonial Little Bo Peeps, and a pretty Victorian Bo Peep, and all of them would be lovely in Easter colors.
While you are thinking, a nice review of some of your LD spring creations would be good thing, and I’ll bet everyone would agree with me.

    1. HI Marilyn,
How right you are! Emmie IS up next… and I’ve already got a head start on her dress. She really is a pretty doll and I should have made her something else already by now! Bad mommy I am!
The fabric came first and then the design… I’m still not certain of how it will look in the end, but it’s pretty on her already!
I would like to do a Little Bo Peep dress sometime… along with some other storybook characters… maybe some day!
      Thanks Marilyn,
You’re always on my side! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Yep, Marilyn, it was me who mentioned Little Bo Peep! I had a sweet little story book doll from my grandmother, she was porcelain and dressed oh, so sweetly, plus she had blonde hair. It was way too fragile for a 5 or 6 year old, but then what are grandmothers for? She had the most darling pastel colored dress, with some sort of print I can’t quite recall now, hey, that’s a LONG time ago to remember that, so it’s a bit fuzzy!
That wig in the first couple of pictures had me laughing, Jeanne! The poor doll is overwhelmed with hair! But you did a great job of styling it, and I think it will work wonderfully! It certainly does bring out her beautiful eyes!
What did I do yesterday? Pretty much blew my nose and shivered! I think a cold is a’comin!

    1. HI Linda,
I bet you cherished that Little Bo Peep doll, didn’t you? She sounds adorable.
Yes, that wig is a bit too much hair for any doll… It’s much better now and I think I’ll just it at this length!
Oh, I’m so sorry you have a cold… a friend of mine has one too and is kind of miserable!
      Hope it goes away soon!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Oh my gosh Jeanne, you did an excellent job “taming the mane” on this one! I wasn’t sure how I felt about platinum hair on any doll, but after seeing DMM Creations on eBay, who has a little model with short flippy platinum hair, and your work on this sweet wig, I am sold!
These adorable LDs are my newest obsession, I just can’t wrap my head around the price tags on eBay for one. I’m on an email list for Magalie Dawson, but I’m not holding my breath. Sigh…

    1. Magalie is completely worth the wait and a lovely person (at least by her emails) besides. I can’t imagine that you’d be sorry.

    2. HI Linda,
I think I have this mane under control now! It’s a much better style and Emmie likes it very much! I love seeing “real” little kids with platinum blonde hair!
The Little Darings on Ebay ARE pretty high priced and it’s nice that you are on Magalie’s list. I see there are 2 for sale on Ebay painted by her. I hope you get yours soon… It’s awful to wait for a doll, but these are worth it! Trust me, I know!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks Christine,
I’m glad you like Emmie in her new blonde wig! I think it suits her perfectly! :o)

    1. Hi Shara,
I’m glad I REMEMBERED I had a blonde wig like this… it was just what I was looking at! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Wow – a carpenter, painter, sewer, and a hair designer. Your talents are endless. Kudos for the great idea and execution. The wig looks great on Emmie. Can’t wait to see what you are going to cloth her in 🙂

    1. Hi Lynn,
Well, if I can get a little more done on Emmie’s dress tonight, you’ll get a glimpse of it tomorrow! I hope you like it!
      Thanks for your compliments!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hmmm The first pic reminded me of a blond Kanani AG wig. I have the same problem with a wig around here. It is long but not wavy. I just don’t want to end up with stick straight ends. I’d like a curve to them. I’ll have to look around and see if daughter left behind that flat iron thingy. You can tell I have never used one. 🙂
    Looks good.

    1. HI Joy,
It IS like Kanani’s wig… I’ve never seen a Kanani doll in person, but I’ve always wondered about her hair…if it was a nice as everyone says!
I hope you found the flat iron and were able to curl the ends under a little bit.. I was just happy to get the curves and waves out of Emmie’s!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Wigs are fun and it seems there are so many different ways the strands feel. You can curl them with curlers that can withstand boiling water. Next time I work on a wig that needs curling I’ll take some pictures for you to share. It’s fun to do.
So does this mean the next dress is going on Emmie?
    Have a good weekend!

    1. Hi Kathie,
YES, I’d love to see what you do to wigs sometime! Maybe I can do a feature post on it? Send me lots of pics! :o)
Yes, Emmie is up next… and I’m working on her dress tonight when I get done with these comments! :o)
My sister, Cindy, is coming…. I’m sure I’ll have a great weekend!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Keepers Dolly Duds on Etsy is having a half-price pattern sale. The patterns can be downloaded for instant gratification. There is a new 1920s one that would be useful for small amounts of leftover favorite fabric, and someone told me there was a short-sleeved summer version included, though I didn’t see it on the pattern picture.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Yes, I’ve been drooling over Eve’s patterns… trying to decide which ones can go the distance for me and my dolls! I saw the one you are talking about…it’s adorable!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. I took a look at the patterns too. Very tempting. I like the one for Kit with the two front pleats. Is that the one you mentioned?

  8. Dorothy in PA

Dear Jeanne, I love this wig on her! I have been looking for a wig for my little Boneka so I know how challenging it is to find just the right wig. I think she looks adorable. I can’t wait to see what outfit you will create for her.

    1. HI Dorothy,
I love to change my dolls wigs so having a new one will be fun for my girls! I think Janie can wear this one very well too! Hope you find the perfect one for your Boneka doll.
I’m hoping to show Emmie’s dress tomorrow… at least what I get done tonight! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Charlotte Amaro

Oh, she looks so pretty! Great job on the wig too. You always show that sticking with something brings good results. Emmie has such a pretty face! Maybe the next dress should be for her. Since I am writing so late, I will wish you a
    Good evening!
    Take care –

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Well, I did have an ulterior motive for finding a wig for Emmie… she IS the next model for a dress! :o) I’ve got it started but not too far along… hopefully more to show tomorrow!
      Thanks so much Charlotte,
My sister, Cindy and her hubby are coming in tomorrow, so I’ll have a great weekend, I’m sure!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. I’ve always been amazed with your hairstyling talents, Jeanne. (Another potential career option for you, should you ever decide you’d like a change! 😉 ) You did a great job transforming this platinum wig. The length is much more manageable for an LD, and it looks so cute on Emmie. Silky and smooth, too. And lucky Emmie will soon have a new spring outfit as well as a new hairdo! Looking forward to your creation for her. Bet it felt good to be back in your sewing room again!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend with your sister, Jeanne, and trusting Cindy will have some fantastic ideas for your kitchen remodel. Enjoy!

    1. HI Anne,
Oh, yes, the wig is MUCH more manageable now! It was just way too long and overpowering on any doll I tried it on.
And yes, again, Emmie is the very blessed doll who gets to be next! I’ll have a picture of her dress in tomorrow’s post!
Oh, I’m hoping too, that Cindy can help me nail down some ideas for my kitchen. I trust her completely!
Thanks so much and I hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
      Blessings, Jeanne
