Hallelujah! The floor is finished!

Things are looking up! The floor in the church kitchen is now totally laid AND I answered all of your comments from the last post! I was determined to get both done today!

Cutting around all the door frames and laying those planks seemed to take forever today. I had much less to do today, but some of the pieces were a real challenge. But it looks very pretty in there…and clean…and bright! Here’s the floor from one shot…(I didn’t want to show too many pictures as I’m sure this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea!)

My hubby picked out this sconce for the wall all by himself and I think it’s so pretty and really makes that side of the kitchen much brighter! He got it at Lowe’s and said it was the cheapest one there!

It makes me excited to think that my kitchen will be next, but I can honestly say, I think I need to take a little break before starting mine…and rest assured, when I start mine, it won’t be a decorating post every day for a month…I’m going to spread it out and put some sewing in there too…after all, isn’t that what I’m supposed to be writing about?

We moved the cabinets into the kitchen to get ready to level and secure them tomorrow! I think they look so pretty in there…I AM DEFINITELY not a decorator, but I think the Lord picked out the colors that worked best for the whole kitchen… the floor goes with the cabinets, which go with the brick board, which matches the granite counter tops perfectly and the wall color ties it all together. It’s pretty much a miracle if you ask me!

…and here’s one more shot from the left side…

All the outlets and switches were finished up today and the thresholds were put across the 3 doorways. Lots of little things were done that will never been seen or noticed by anyone, but it’s all part of doing a job and doing it well. Plus it gave me lots of practice for my own kitchen.

Well, I better get to bed… the mornings seem to come earlier lately! :o)

Thanks everyone…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

It is looking really very nice, Jeanne, and I’m glad you had a chance to respond to posts yesterday, too! Soon you’ll be back at your sewing machine!!

  2. This room is just lovely. I think George’s wall sconce is elegant. The black ties in the the gray in the floor. I wonder about black fixtures for the sink. The only thing not new is the curtain and I’ll bet you washed that. I’m waiting for Cindy to transform George’s sawhorses into a stunning kitchen island, but I suppose he needs the sawhorses more than I need the island.

When you are working on your kitchen, you’ll be at home. Much more relaxing. It’s time to design an Easter dress or two.

I checked last night to see if you’d managed to answer us all. Yay — you had! It made me think that the project was winding down.

  3. What an improvement in that kitchen, Jeanne! Everything matches up so well and it will be a joy to cook and bake in there, for sure! I am wondering about those lights underneath where the cabinets would go. Are you putting cabinets up there too? How would that work? The sconce light works out very well, good job, George!
Don’t tell me that you and George are going to cut and put on the granite countertops, unless it’s not really granite, but some material that resembles granite. Well, you do amazing things, but this would really take the cake!
Do you think you will get Molly’s outfit listed this weekend? I can’t believe how we just seemed to zip right through February, although your back might not agree!!
Today is my neighbor’s 100th birthday, and she is still going strong, so the rest of us have something to look up to and emulate!

    1. Hi Linda
Happy 100th Birthday to your wonderful neighbor. It sounds like she is an amazing woman and an inspiration to many.
      Leigh

      1. Hi Leigh! Yes, my neighbor is working today at a local thrift shop, like she does every Wednesday and Friday. She quilts too with her church group, and until a few years ago sang in their choir, but gave that up because they had to sing on risers, and it was too difficult for her. We, in the subdivision are having a birthday party this Sunday for her.

  4. Hi Jeanne
Steady progress on the kitchen and it looks great. I agree George did a great job picking out the wall sconce, I can’t tell if it’s black or the antique bronze? You must be exhausted. Hope you and George might get some time off this weekend but you are both probably chomping at the bit to finish up?? Hope you have a great weekend either way.

  5. Well, that is the photo I wanted to see. Love how everything looks together. Congrats on a job almost done.
The foxwood color is lovely, but I think you chose the right one for your home. I like the gray tones.
Celebrating grands 5th birthday tomorrow so need to wrap and finish a dress for her AG Nanea. Always late around here.
    Let the sewing begin.

  6. Everything looks beautiful! I especially like George’s sconce. The cabinets look great with all the other finishes.
I’m very much looking forward to the posts when you do your kitchen. I think it will be great to come along with you and George as you make it all pretty.
    Have a good day!
    Take care –

  7. Everything about that kitchen is so attractive! It won’t go out of style and should be easy to keep clean. I’ve never seen that SS sink that comes clear to edge of the counter…will be interesting to see how it fits together.
Enjoy your weekend …hope you won’t be getting the rain/ice/snow we have been enjoying ?

  8. Looking forward to this project being finished for your sake, Jeanne. You two have really blessed your church family. It’s all so nice looking.

I hope you have a chance to have some time for yourself this weekend. Upcoming projects (sewing and otherwise) should be well-looked forward to.

    Blessings.

  9. The kitchen really do look fantastic. The sconce George choose is really lovely as well.
It will be a wonderful workspace for anyone to prepare church dinners or meals in.
Congrats to both of you on a job well done!!

  10. There’s light at the end of the tunnel now, Jeanne! You and George must have a tremendous sense of satisfaction in all that you have accomplished. It’s wonderful to see everything in place and how nicely the colors work together. It’s a beautiful space, and you know all the details are finished well. Go ahead and pat yourselves on the back a little bit. You deserve it! I hope you have some R&R planned for the weekend. Your knees and back will thank you!

  11. Hi everyone,
I’m just going to do one group comment tonight.
The kitchen is close to being finished…the countertops still have to be measured and cut and put in, the toe kicks still have to added under the cabinet fronts, a new door still needs to be out up, the cabinets still need to be hung on the other side of the kitchen, a new curtain needs to be made…and probably more, BUT we got done what was asked of us…the walls and trim got painted, the floor was laid and the cabinets are secured… so we are glad it’s almost done, and after this 30th Anniversary weekend, the rest of the stuff can be done on a much slower timeline.

Marilyn, you mentioned the black/bronze sconce color and now I’m thinking maybe black countertops might look nicer in here with black color in the floor…

Linda, there are only going to be cabinets on the left side and NO. we aren’t cutting the granite…thank goodness!

    Leigh,
The sconce is an oil robbed bronze and is really pretty. All this work has been done getting ready for our church’s 30th Anniversary. There are all kinds of things going on all weekend but we are so tired I don’t think we’ll make them all.

Thanks for your compliments on the kitchen…and MY grayish floors. I like either, but since mine are already down I think I’ll keep em!
I hope you got your sewing for your grands finished… sewing…what’s that???? :o)

    Hi Charlotte,
I don’t I’ll start my kitchen right away…we both need a break. But when it does start, I’ll keep everyone posted. Thanks so much!

    Thanks Kathie,
The kitchen turned out prettier than I ever dreamed it could…and hopefully it will stylish for years to come. The sink goes all the way to the brick wall and has a ltitle channel that the granite will slide in the ends. I’ll show you a closeup when it gets put in.

    Hi Becky,
This weekend is going to be very busy around with all kinds of Anniversary activities going on, but we just can’t make it to all of them…I’m sort of interested in a good night’s sleep!!!
    Thanks Becky.

Thank you Laura…this has been 3 long weeks and I’m glad the kitchen is almost done too!!
    I’m glad you like it!

    Thanks Anne,
It does feel good to be almost finished and also to have done the best job we could have. It really is a pretty kitchen and I think everyone will enjoy cooking in there now. It’s a busy weekend but I’m going to try and make it as stress free as I can and just enjoy seeing some alumni.

    Thanks everyone!
See you on Monday…hopefully with something dolly or sewing related!
    Blessings, Jeanne
