JUST A REMINDER: My “Is it Spring Yet?” dress and coat set listed on Ebay ends this evening. You can see it HERE or click on the picture at the right side bar. Thanks for taking a peek!
I received some fabric in the mail today and I was wondering who might look best in it. It is SO pretty and the pink squares are 1-1/8.” It is absolutely incredible to touch… like the softest, lightest fabric ever woven! It’s not a Lawn, but it sure feels like one…
I was hoping it would work for the Little Darlings, but it might be just a hair too big. I think it was Laura who suggested Molly is making a comeback with a new release and a new dress for her might be wonderful. I picked her to show the fabric against so you could see the scale…
I also have a piece of cotton lace that would make “something” to go with the dress. The fabric is pretty white, not like how this picture came out…
So, what do you think? Yes, no, maybe, mew? I’m open for suggestions!
Short and sweet today… I’m going to bed!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Yesterday I expected the beginnings of a new dress and got a messy floor. Today I expected the ruins of the church kitchen and got pretty fabric.
I never think of Molly in pink, but she does look pretty in pink. I was thinking I hadn’t seen Emmie for a while. I may have the wrong name — she modeled Victorian Elegance. They look a lot alike so what looks good one one would be pretty on the other.
This is Groundhog Day, or Candlemas, or Imbolc — winter is half over. While other people look to the official groundhog, in my family we’ve always checked to see if my sister Linda sees her shadow, since this is her birthday. A new spring dress made from your lovely new fabric will be a wonderful way to celebrate that we’re moving toward a new warmer season. In Colorado, in the past, winter was cold and March and April were snowy, followed by a rainy May, but with the changing weather, who knows? We had snow last May and rain in April. Whatever,we are on our way to spring.
I forgot to say that I think this would work for Molly, and then I looked again and thought, “Kirsten — that might be a beautiful skirt or apron for Kirsten.” You do have lots of choices on this lovely fabric.
Also, a friend reminds me that today is called Candelaria in Mexico. That’s a pretty name for it.
Hi Marilyn,
Gotta keep you guessing…dresses or demoliton? I had to get back to my first love…fabric!
It is Emmie, and she was actually who I was thinking of when I ordered this fabric. It just seemed so dainty and delicate and she is both!!
It would be pretty on Kirsten…u might need to check that out with any coordinating fabrics I might have.
Tell Linda Happy Birthday from all the ladies on I Dream of Jeanne Marie!
Blessings, Jeanne
Marilyn, I think the earth is spinning too fast for you today!! Just kidding, but in all fairness, things are quite topsy turvy now! And no, I’m not the Linda that Marilyn is talking about, but Happy Birthday to Marilyn’s sister, Linda!
That pretty fabric would look good on a lot of dolls, Jeanne. Yes, Molly is one of them, and a pretty Easter outfit would thrill her, I’m sure.
So the “official” word from the groundhog is six more weeks of winter! Not looking forward to THAT!
Hi Linda,
I know you are quite partial to Molly, so if you think it might work, I’m game!!
6 more weeks of this???? Ugh! It was so cold yesterday, I could hardly stand it…a little better today because the wind has died down.
I guess wintery outside makes it perfect for sewing inside!! :o)
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my goodness, yes the fabrics look nice together and would nice on Molly. I think it would be a nice little promise of springtime.
Hope you have a good day!
Take care —
Hi Charlotte,
Oh good, another vote to use the fabric for Molly!!! Maybe if I make pretty Spring dresses, Spring will come more quickly!! I hope so…
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Lucky you to be gifted such gorgeous fabric and I just love the printed. Scale is everything as we know and your correct it would be too large for your smaller dolls. The lace is so pretty and a perfect match. You know I am not familiar with many of the AG dolls but I think it would work for those with the paler skin. I think it would look adorable on Molly with her hair and skin color…and those eyes maybe with a lovely shrug or caplet type jacket.
Groundhog day here in the US. I am super happy with his prediction. I love winter. The colder it is and the deeper the snow and I am a happy person. I live on the east coast, ironically at the beach, so it rarely gets super cold and most years 2″ of snow and people here treat it like a blizzard. We had 17″ two weeks ago and I was in my glory.
Hi Sandra,
Thanks for your thoughts on the fabric…it really is pretty and could probably work for just about any doll in my collection! It’s a good thing I bought a yard of it.
You might be outnumbered on here for hoping for more snow. I hope you get your wish, but I hope it stays up north! Sorry, I’m not a cold weather person and where there’s snow in Illinois, there’s usually ice…not at all my cup of tea!
Thanks Sandra,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love the fabric! I believe any of your larger girls could wear that print. It might even work for the Wellies and LD’s. Would a little simple jacket made from the lace work? You know to ward off a spring chill. The photos might be a rose garden setting or your nice background folding screen with a few flowers entwined. Can’t wait to see what unfolds with the new pretties.
I tried to find a pattern somewhat like that lovely pink dress you made for Addy, but have not had any luck. I think that pattern would work for this fabric too.
Hope you weren’t coughing too much last night. I was. Now we’re on to cleaning out the old garage at husband’s parents place. Lots of dust, spiders, and general crud there.
Would love to see a photo of the completed church kitchen when done. Love those before and after pictures.
Hi Joy,
It’s really a pretty piece of fabric and you’re right. ..probably any of my girls could wear it.
I think it might even make a beautiful Regency gown.
I did make up Addy’s pattern that you saw yesterday…it’s easy to do…just make an overlay of whatever shape you like.
I didn’t go in to help my hubby today. He was doing all the “unseen” stuff…plumbing and electrical, and I couldn’t do much to help him. I was on the computer looking for cabinets that are already prefinished…I really don’t want to paint or stain the cabineys….also looking on Craigslist for something that we can just put up!
Have fun on you “project ” as I know stuff multiplies in garages!!!
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Joy,
I didn’t have a chance to comment to you the other day when you mentioned getting Nanea’s ears pierced. I, too, dislike the big holes that AG makes. I did my custom’s ears ( she’s a Nellie re-wigged with #33 wig) using a pushpin. I warmed her ears slightly with a hairdryer after marking the spot with a pencil. It was a piece of cake and now the choice of human earrings is endless. Best of all, when she isn’t wearing earrings the holes basically don’t show
Laura
Good to know! I’ll pass that on to daughter and grand.
Thank you!!
How dainty and sweet your material print is. Right away I thought of this pink print dress my sister made for my Scarlett O’Hara doll, although is was a different pink design. Even though I can see Molly in a dress made from it, I immediately thought of the Civil War era. like in the “Little Women” gowns. Even though the material used back in that era was mainly darker in color, it just reminds me of the young girls doing their studies in the garden or having tea lessons in the garden, entertaining guests in the garden …. something along those lines. Just a thought.
Marilyn: that is so cute and original that your family looks to see is your sister Linda sees her shadow!
Jeanne, hope we see pictures of the church kitchen being updated.
Hi Paula,
Oh, my, a Civil War dress from this??? Be still my heart. It would be very pretty I think…. maybe I should have just “asked” who would you like to see in this dress, instead of showing it on Molly.
Oh, you will see updates on the kitchen, but it’s in the ugly stage right now, and not much new to show, plumbing, electrical, measuring, figuring, etc. going on.
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Happy Candlemas Day, everyone. Yes both our Buckeye Chuck and Punxsutawny Phil predicted six more weeks of winter. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Ugh! Of course, it is entirely dependent on whether there is sun or not. It’s cloudy here today, but yesterday we had sun, go figure. When my daughter was young we had the tradition of lighting a number of candles to signify Jesus as the Light of the World because today is the day the Jesus was presented at the temple according to tradition. We used to have crepes for dessert . Love that, Marilyn, about if your sister sees her shadow. What a cute family tradition.
Yes, I was the one to suggest Molly. She’s coming back this month. I’m hoping kirsten will comes back as well as she will be the only one to have archived and not returned of the PC girls. I think with the Queen’s Treasures LHOTP items there could be a market for a pioneer girl again. I think the fabric is very pretty and would work for Molly. It looks like trailing flower vines on a lattice. I do agree with Paula that this would make a beautiful Civil War dress. Reminds me a little of Scarlett’s green picnic dress. It would look very springlike. The pink reminds me a little of crepe myrtles, definitely a southern plant. Now I really want to see a Civil War dress. You could choose something else for Molly because of Valentine’s and use this next up for Civil War on Rebecca or do you have another dark haired doll without bangs other than Eden? I don’t recall.
HI Laura,
Well, I have already gotten started on a Molly dress, but who’s to say I can’t turn right around and make one for our Civil War dolls. I’ve done it before… :o) The more you talk about it, the more I can see it.. so dainty and pretty and beautiful on Rebecca…with her hazel green eyes picking up the leaves just a little bit…
Oh dear, Laura,
Maybe I can cut out two at once… :o)
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’m in love with that floral check…did someone send it to you or is it available somewhere ? It probably is too big for the little darlings….but it would be sweet on them.
The pink lace is great with it…time will tell us what you come up with. Wonder if you could use fabric stiffener and make it a hat?
I have always looked forward to Ground Hog day…and it took me a long time to realize 6 weeks isn’t that bad and there are usually a few nice days in that 6 weeks …and only twice do I remember we didn’t see his shadow and spring was NOT any sooner??
Enjoy your weekend ??
Hi Kathie,
It seems you were smitten with this fabric like I was. I got it off Etsy and it came from Singapore. It has taken almost 2 1/2 weeks to get here, but I think it wad worth the wait. It has such a nice feel to it and I bet gathers will pull up very nicely on it.
When I got it yesterday and took it out of the plastic bag, it had an awful smell, so I was going to wash it this morning. When I woke up this morning and took it to the laundry, I couldn’t smell a thing… I think it was the plastic bag I was smelling.
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
SPRING AT LAST
A soft pink fabric, so dainty and sweet
For a dolly design that will be such a treat
Molly, or Emmie, or Kirsten? I think
Most of your girls would look darling in pink
No matter the era, whoever you choose
A lovely Spring dress helps cure “winter blues”
With ribbons, or trims, or some pink cotton lace
The model you choose will wear it with grace
So surprise us, Jeanne, just sit down and sew
For whatever you make, your girl will just glow!
We’ll follow your progress and enjoy what you do
And when you are finished, we’ll all say, “Oooooh!
Happy creating, Jeanne!
Wow Anne! What a lovely poem.
You are the poetry winner for this years talent show for sure.:)
HI Joy,
Anne ABSOLUTELY wins hands down!
Thanks, Joy; you’re too kind. All the talent on Jeanne’s blog sometimes motivates me to comment in rhyme!
Would like to see pics of your 10-ers and the clothes you make sometime, as I have 10-ers, too. The ones you sent awhile back of the “ugly” sweaters were amazing! Always like to see other collections.
Thank you, Sweet Anne, for your words, oh, so kind
As far as the dress, I haven’t made up my mind
But I’m thinking dear Molly would cry if I switched
to another dear dolly… She’d probably be miffed
So for now, it will be a dress for Miss Molly
I’ll hurry along to make it for dollies
Who lived in the forties and tried hard to save
I hope that you like it and hope that you rave!
Thanks so much, Anne,
I LOVED your poem!
Blessings, Jeanne
Wonderful poem, Jeanne! Don’t know how you have time to craft a rhyme amid the sewing and everything else that you do. I am in awe! Thanks for liking mine, too. 😉
Even though it’s the end of the day (or beginning of the 3rd, really), I’ll comment.
I love that fabric–it’s just gorgeous!! You are right–too large for Little Darlings–I use the dolls hand as the guide for the size of the print (or repeat), and this is definitely bigger.
My Molly (who went with me to AG Place for lunch at the Bistro with my friend Marika and her doll Callie) says that, although she thinks Kirsten would like it, it just isn’t right for her (my Molly), as she is a red girl–well, she also likes navy blue and green, but basically the somewhat deeper tones, for the most part. She’s also Very fond of a red/white/blue theme, being a patriotic girl from WWII! I tried making her a lavender dress when I first got her, and she tried it on once, but just wouldn’t wear it after that. She said, “Lavender’s Your favorite color, mom, not mine!” LOL
My Molly is quite outspoken about her likes and dislikes, as you can see!! LOL
