Thanks so much for the “Welcome Back” wishes… I missed you all!
Yay!!! She made it back in her sewing room again…not for very long, but long enough to get this cut out and arranged. This was supposed to have been Molly’s Valentine dress, but my getting the flu has now changed this into Molly’s soon-coming Easter dress! :o)
It’s one of those dresses where you’ll have to use your imagination again. It will look pretty cute, I think, if everything goes the way I think it should…
Here are a few pictures to get those imaginations moving….:o)
The plan is to make the dress with the white collar…and have the jacket as sort of an overlay jacket. It will all be one piece but look like two. There’s not much to photograph when this is all I have…so here’s another shot!
So how about a close up…
…and a little closer still…
Molly doesn’t know if she likes it yet because she hasn’t gotten to try it on yet, but I assured her that she’ll like it…
Just for something extra….
Linda sent an email of a cake recipe for a Red Velvet Cream Cheese Bundt cake… It looked so beautiful, I decided to pass along the recipe. I think she was going to give a red velvet box cake mix a try instead of doing the cake part from scratch…
Red Velvet Cream Cheese Bundt Cake Recipe
Thanks everyone,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a simply darling dress for Molly, Jeanne! She will be the prettiest girl in the Easter Parade, for sure! And, what could be cuter than a pretty straw hat, fashioned by” Jeanne Marie Originals” in pretty pink to match the lace, or even white, adorned with pink roses? Nothing could be sweeter! I see that it is a one piece dress, but it could be a sleeveless dress too, with a separate jacket.
You can have fun deciding on the accessories, Easter basket and eggs, flowers, bunnies and chicks too! Best of all, you have the luxury of TIME to get it right!
Oh, I’m glad you liked the cake recipe! I thought it would be nice to make for my hubby for Valentines Day, so though it would be good to pass along to others. I have made red velvet cake many times, but not with a filling and I thought it might be something “extra” to try. Yes, I plan on using a cake mix, I’m just not that fond of being in the kitchen THAT long, and maybe not turn out as nice as if I used a mix. I love bundt cakes, since they don’t need gobs of icing all over them, and you can just swirl some over the top and add sugar crystals to make it look special.
I’m so glad to see that you are recovering nicely, Jeanne, just don’t overdo!
Hi Linda,
More than a few of you suggested I make a little jacket instead of attaching it to the dress…I just might have to consider it…thank you for your sweet comments.
I think everyone is loving that Red Velvet cake…it sure does look delicious and I think bundt cakes are great too!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
You know, Jeanne, seeing that fabric laid out that way, with the lace as a bolero and a white collar….well, yes, it really IS more of an Easter dress than anything, I think!! And it brings to mind the Easter dress my mom made for me, around 1954 or 55 (I know I wore it when I was flower girl for my grandpa’s wedding–and Grandma had died when I was 7, in 1953–and he married my new grandma a year or two later) It was a high-yoked dress with a princess-line, flared skirt, in a dimity or voile with little blue rosebuds on it; there was also a light blue linen bolero with short sleeves, shaped much like what you have there! I think I wore some kind of a petticoat underneath it, as the skirt kind of flared out some.
My new grandma and I hit it off right away (after all, *I* was her flower girl!), and we remained close until her death in about 1996, at the age of 97 or 98. (Yes, I had a grandma until I was 50!) She was my last surviving grandparent. My brother and all my cousins referred to her as “grandma Lu”, but to me, she was just “grandma”, and I loved her. We enjoyed spending time together, and she and Ron’s mother got along very well! Good memories.
Hi Charlotte,
I love it when I post something and it makes someone remember something from the past. What a neat story you remember about your grandma and the dress you got to wear in her wedding. It sounds beautiful and lovely to look at. Thanks for sharing!
Blessings, Jeanne
That cake looks wonderful. If Linda tries it with a mix, I hope she tells us if it works out.
Then there’s the dress Charlotte T. described. Keep track of the date so you can come back to this in May or June and make one like it for a June wedding.
And then — there’s Molly’s new dress. Is it more pink and white or coral and cream? I love the collar fabric, which goes so well with the sweater fabric design. The dress material is so pretty. I nearly always like trellis designs, and the rose design is so delicate. I think this is going to be a beautiful dress, and prettier for Easter even than for Valentine’s Day. Linda’s wish for a pretty straw hat with roses is nice — or — who remembers a favorite Easter hat from the right time? We might have some very good ideas right here.
With the right hat and this print, you could use a title from Louisa May Alcott’s list — Rose in Bloom.
Thanks Marilyn,
The fabric is just slightly off white and pretty much a warm baby pink. It’s a very soft color combination. I originally thought it was pink and white, but it’s not.
I’m like you..I love those trellis designs…and the daintier…the better! I think you’re right…this will make a beautiful Easter dress. Now to get it finished.
Blessings, Jeanne
Beautiful dress! I agree witj Charlotte that it looks more Easter than Valentine’s Day. I am looking foward to seeing it on Molly.
Hope you have a good day.
Take care.
Thank you, Charlotte,
I am fortunate that Easter follows Valentine’s day. …this dress will work out just fine.
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
How sweet is that dress! Wish the jacket could be separate for another look because, it is perfect for Easter as is, but wouldn’t it be fun for a summer picnic too? Lunch outdoors on a colorful quilt with some friends. Maybe a picnic basket and some treats for props. This dress is so demure. Love it.
And that cake photo from Linda wants me to run to the store and find Red Velvet mix. I can just picture other person and I staring at each other with red teeth. 🙂 I can remember all of the kids in my class doing the same some years back when those Red Velvet cupcakes were brought in for a birthday.
So glad you’re back!
Hi Joy,
I’m rethinking that lace overlay and it just might become a separate jacket…you weren’t alone in suggesting it…
I guess everyone does the red teeth thing when eating this cake. We did the same thing when Kristoffer and brought over his version a few months ago!! :o)
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Thanks, Joy, for the best wishes for fighting the bug. Lots of coughing but not getting worse. Thanks for the tip about sitting up from one of your readers. It does help.
The dress will be darling. Love the lacy bolero jacket.
Hi Susette,
I hope your cough is better. Mine is still hanging around and seems to come on like gangbusters at night. I hope you follow all the advice everyone sent my way.
Take it easy, Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Molly’s pink dress is so sweet and luscious pink. Love it, Jeanne. Her pink lace jacket will be the perfect finish. Molly will be all set for Easter.
All of Molly’s outfits made over the years by you certainly gave Molly a wonderful closet of clothes!
Oh that red velvet cake looks scrumptious…I have to laugh at Joy’s mention of red teeth!! I too want to run out and by a red velvet cake mix. Yum !!
Glad you are on the mend, Jeanne!
Hi Paula,
Thanks so much for your kind compliments on Molly’s dress…and it’s barely even started!
I think we all laughed at Joy talking about their red teeth …probably because we’ve all done it! :o)
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, I love the pink shrug (is that what the top is called?) I like the idea someone mentioned of it being detachable but either way the outfit will look nice. I bet you will be finished with it in no time!
Hi Dorothy,
I’m thinking of making the jacket/shrug separate…it won’t be any harder to do, and it will be a mix and match piece then.
Thanks so much, Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
I lovelovelove this! But I’d need it in Kaye Wigg size for my Nelly or Layla. 🙂
Thank you Melody,
I’m glad you like this set…and maybe, maybe, maybe I’ll get something made for the Kaye Wiggs dolls one of these days.
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my…that dress is already one of my favorites! Of course loving pink helps but that combination is going to be so freaky cute!
Glad you are better…be careful for a few more days
Suzette..hope you are better..darn coughs are so annoying.
Thanks so much, Kathie,
I’m glad you like the dress so far…I hope you like it when I’m finished!
I’m trying to be careful…but this cough is really getting old!! I’m ready for it to leave!
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Magic minutes is what I would call them! Just a few magic minutes in your sewing room and we are already in love with the beginnings you’ve laid out, Jeanne! Such a dainty print, so sweet and delicate, and oh oh oh, the pattern on the little Peter Pan collar adds such a special touch. Love the full skirt, and the lace overlay jacket is perfect for Easter. Hope being in your studio was good therapy as you continue your recovery from the “crud,” and hope you will have more magic minutes each day until you are back up to full speed. Looking forward to the progress on Molly’s holiday dress as you are able. Although Easter is early, you have plenty of time for this creation and more.
Thanks for sharing the recipe for the red velvet bundt cake, Linda. It looks very festive and delicious! When shall I come by for Valentine tea and cake?! 😉
For Jeanne and Susette and all those with the flu, I have found that continuing the steam twice daily well beyond the worst of the illness helps with the cough and improves lung function. Blessings for wellness, everyone!
Hi Anne,
Well, I could certainly use some magic minutes for this dress. My day was spent helping my hubby with electrical work in the church kitchen. I might have to alternate sewing and “kitchening” every other day.
I’m adding some medicated stuff to my vaporizer…every little bit helps!
Pick me up on the way to Linda’s house…we’ll surprise her for a slice of that cake!! :o)
Thanks so much, Anne,
Blessings, Jeanne
You are all welcome to come by anytime! Not sure if there will be any cake left though! ;-0
