I thought I would share a few pictures of the debut dress I made for Isabelle back on January 5th, 2010! (I can’t believe I’ve had her for 8 years!) These were some of the pictures I found in my archives when I switched over to Windows 10. I had completely forgotten about this dress…and unless you were following me on Ebay, it will be new to most of you too! Isabelle was a Christmas gift from one of my doll customers back in 2009. I was absolutely crazy for her and started sewing right away… with many, many dresses to follow.
I looked up the template that was used when I listed it and the name for this one was “Old Fashioned Charm.” This was my fabric…
I was over the moon in love with her and looking at my pictures, she even looks younger to me. It’s probably her hair. Dianna Effner cut it to shoulder length and curled it under with a special low temp curling iron. It still curls under to this day, but it’s not as tight of a curl as it was back in 2010.
I couldn’t resist looking up what I wrote about this dress too. Here is the description of the dress I used on Ebay back then…
Isabelle is making her Debut in this old fashioned DRESS made from a ”watercolor-like” blue print with roses all over. She is such a beautiful doll and I wanted her first dress to be very special.
The DRESS is just a simple girlish style, with a few extras!
A textured linen fabric has been used for the sweet peter pan collar, which has been lavishly silk embroidered in colors that match the fabric.
Sweet ruffled sleeves are just the cutest addition decorated with tiny burgundy silk ribbon bows.
A tea length hem, with a row of heirloom lace, will ensure another year of wear for this beautiful dress. It opens all the way down the back for easy dressing and closes with snaps.
Also included, the winner will receive the sweet HAIR BOW and the tiny PUPPY in her arms.
Enjoy my pictures!
I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane… I did! :o)
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
These pictures remind me of pictures of you when your children were little. Isabelle is and was such a beauty. I always love to see her. Every time you show us a set of pictures, I want to see more. More Isabelle pictures, please. More coats. More Little Darlings. Isn’t it a good thing you have so many pictures?
Hi Marilyn,
It’s fun to look back and see what I was doing 8 or 10 years ago… I guess pretty little girls dresses will ALWAYS be my favorites… along with a few coats every now and then1 :o)
It IS good to have lots of pictures… I’m glad you enjoyed todays group!
Blessings, Jeanne
That is, indeed, a sweet dress on Isabelle. I love the ones where you add a touch of embroidery–not appropriate on every style or for every doll, but when you do, they are really special.
Congrats–I see your coat set already has one bid!
HI Charlotte,
I like the dresses and jackets too, where embroidery touches are added… It does seem to make them more special…
Yes, Janie’s coat has a bid! Yay!
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a sweet little dress, Jeanne, for a sweet little doll! I love the colors of the dress, and it reminds me of one that I made for my daughter back in the 70’s. It was one of those pinafore dresses, with a ruffle at the armhole, and it had roses on a blue background, just like this! Jennifer must have been all but three years old, but I have always loved that little pinafore dress! She had a white puffed sleeve blouse underneath and it looked so cute! I even had white lace on the skirt like Isabelle’s dress! I wish I had saved that!
Exactly, what is the difference in Isabelle and Janie? I know you change wigs, but do you change names when you change wigs? How many LD dolls do you have? I get totally mixed up when you show them!
HI Linda,
I wish I had pictures of everything I made when I was younger… I’d have a never ending supply of pictures for my blog. I used to make something every single day… almost! The dress you made sounds very cute and I bet it was!
Isabelle and Janie are the same face sculpt… but they are just painted differently… I might have to do a post on my four girls…showing the differences… I have Isabelle, Janie, Lian and Emmie.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Isabelle looks so cute in this little dress. All of my favorite colors too. The embroidery on the collar is such a sweet touch. Her eye color is pretty amazing. My latest LD, Kai needs a photo, because she has similar hair color and eyes. Haven’t had any free time to play or take photos, but when I do, I’ll get one off to you. I would also like to see Marilyn’s new Jess.
Any snow headed your way?
Thank you Joy, for your sweet compliments on Isabelle’s dress. It felt really special when I made it so many years ago. I was just ga-ga over Isabelle… and I still am. My sister, Cindy, thinks she looked like a real little girl.
I hope you get some pics of Kai soon… so we can all oooo and aaahhh over her.
Yes, we have an 80% chance of snow starting late tonight, but mostly tomorrow… I guess we’ll see… Janie is hoping for snow…me? not so much! (Party pooper…that’s me!)
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
This is another stunner, Jeanne. It is indeed an honor to view your creations and I so appreciate your sharing them with us.
Blessings
HI Becky,
Thanks so much… This was my first pattern attempt for the Little Darlings and I was “almost” there… needed to work on the sleeves somewhat… and maybe it’s a bit long…
But thank you for your kind compliments. It’s MY pleasure to share my past (and present) creations with everyone.
Blessings, Jeanne
What a beautiful soft color on Isabelle. It brings out the color of her face/eyes so well. It is indeed a very special 1st dress for her. It just speaks feminine, delicate and pleasing to the eye.
It would be neat to see all your Little Darling girls. I’m still waiting to get mine. I’d like her to look like Lian. Lian is just adorable and looks wonderful in all the dresses she models. The name I have chosen for my LD is “Kei Kei”. Pronounced Kay Kay. It is similar to Joy’s doll name Kai in spelling, but I don’t know how Joy pronounces her doll’s name. Hope we get to see a picture of Joy’s new LD. I chose it a long time ago and my Asian American Girl doll is also named that because they will be the same person, only in different categories.
How is your Mom doing? I hope well and that she is enjoying her beautiful apartment.
Paula, I hope your Little Darling comes soon. I am on a waiting list for my second one. Are you in our online ning group? We have a “waiting room” where folks post comments while they wait.
HI Paula,
Thank you for your kind words about Isabelle’s new (old) dress! I remember being so excited to make her first dress… and I agree, she looks feminine in it… that was what I wanted. That’s really what I want for all my girls… :o)
Do you know how much longer you have on the wait list? You ordered from Magalie, didn’t you? I hope it’s not too much longer.
My mom is doing fairly well adjusting to her new apartment… it’s not so much that she misses her old house… she really doesn’t talk about it that much, but it’s her memory that’s causing her troubles… she can’t remember how to take her pills from the pill dispenser I loaded for her. It dispenses them everyday, so she can’t over take them, but she calls me every day wanting to know how to get the pills out… I ask her to tell me what is the day that is showing in the window and when she does, I tell her if it’s empty, she’s already taken them… But she doesn’t remember that she did…
Boy, oh boy, your memory is just about the most important thing you have!!! When it goes, you are pretty much lost! :o(
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, Oh my but she is adorable. I admit that I am partial to the Little Darlings (smile). The dress is perfect on her.
Yes, please do a photo shoot with all of your Little Darlings. I would love to see the sisters together.
HI Dorothy,
I think I will get some pictures of my 4 girls all together… and talk about them a little bit…
Thanks for asking…
Blessings, Jeanne
Little Darlings seem to be adorable in whatever they wear! That dress in floral really brings out her personality. Glad you have found all the old pics! Would hate to lose them!
Stay warm!
HI Kathie,
It’s a long slow process for me, and I’m hoping to find even MORE pictures… I sure wish I would find some of really early pictures… That would be wonderful!
Thanks so much…
I’ll try to stay warm, but they say the snow and ice is coming…
blessings, Jeanne
Lucky you to own such a gorgeous. I think if I did I would die and go to heaven.
Isabelle’s dress is fabulous, the print and colors are perfect for her hair and skin color. Nothing is more adorable than a girly dress. You did an amazing job creating her outfit.
Stay warm and have a great day!
Sandra
Thank you Sandra…
I am truly blessed to have 4 of these Little Darlings in my possession! They all have a story and I love them dearly! Thanks so much for the sweet compliments on Isabelle’s dress. I had forgotten all about, so it was wonderful to see pop up!
Blessings, Jeanne
Adorable!! What a sweet looking dress. I’ve never seen this one. Wow, to receive an LD as a gift must have been very special.
Hi Laura,
It was an incredible gift and so sweet of my friend… I was flabbergasted and tried to say no, but she wouldn’t hear of it…
Blessings, Jeanne
Isabelle is such a pretty doll, and I enjoyed seeing her first dress. You must be so happy to have found your old pictures. The dress is really perfect on Isabelle.
Thank you Carolyn,
Yes, I was thrilled to have found a few of my older doll pictures… I didn’t miss them because I had forgotten all about them, so it was really special when I saw them on my screen!
Thanks for thinking Isabelle’s dress was perfect for her… I thought so too!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh dear, I’m so late to the party today! Isabelle is just as pretty as a picture in “Old Fashioned Charm,” Jeanne. Her debut dress has a lovely vintage quality about it, and yet it is a timeless classic as well, sweet and delicate, the best kind of little girl’s dresses. Ten years later, you still sew them that way, and may it always be so! How special for you to rediscover these pictures and share your walk down memory lane. Thanks for always gifting us with something wonderful to see! Blessings for your weekend.

Thank you Anne,
You might be late to the party, but I’m still up… listening to the freezing rain hit my window. I’m not sure what we’ll wake up to in the morning. Rebecca has to work at the hospital, but George and I can just stay inside where it’s warm and toasty!
Thank you so much for your sweet comments on Isabelle’s dress. It is kind of neat that after so many years ago, I’m still making my dresses the same way, same style, same pretty fabrics, etc… I guess I just know what I like and just do it without even thinking about it.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend too…
I WILL choose to think on the lovely things…thank you!
Blessings, Jeanne
