Well, my computer is giving me fits again… it’s a bit frustrating to be at the mercy of a computer, but it seems it’s winning this time. I have been waiting and waiting for 6 or 8 pictures to load and so far nothing… just a spinning circle in the middle of my computer.. I’m not sure if they’ll ever load… It’s too late to write about anything else, so you’ll have to use your imagination and “pretend this is radio” I guess.(Read it out loud and imagine what you “should” be seeing!) If my pictures pop up in the middle of the night, I’ll load them in the post tomorrow…Sorry!
I think a new computer is closer than I had thought was necessary. I can’t keep doing this… all the waiting is driving me a little crazy! Ugh!
UPDATE: Kristoffer to the rescue!!! Lookie… pictures!!!
I had this brainy idea of making a sweet little cap; sort of like a bonnet, with a tiny turned up brim…very little girl-ish! I used a plastic clear ornament that fit perfectly on Lians head to try and draft a pattern…(I accidentally deleted the picture of the plastic half of an ornament on her head)…it seemed like a good idea, but it was a flop…
I tried a few other ideas for a different style hat, but everything seemed to look so ordinary.
I made a nice brim and started with that for about my 6th try.
I added a band to it and decided I’d make a sort of muffin hat but with that brim turned up, surely it would look cute…well, it looked like this…okay….maybe… but not exactly the look I was going for…
If it were silver, it would look like a jiffy pop pan! :o(
Lian said “M-o-m-m-m… I look like a wreck… you’ve had me try on so many hats…and now my hair is a disaster…”
SO…I remembered what several of you said about a pretty hair bow and decided to just cut the shape of one out and laid it on her hair…
…that was it…the look I was hoping for…simple, sweet, little girl adorable…so tomorrow I’ll make a hair bow… :o)
See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, dear, Jeanne–yes, it does sound like you need a new computer sooner, rather than later! I hope your pictures eventually loaded! I’ll check back later on.
It’s funny that you should mention the radio–being “over 70” I, of course, well remember the days when it was radio or nothing! TV was in big cities, and for rich people!! When we finally did get a TV, it was a little screen in a big floor model–and I think we had two channels!! Not only that, but the channels acutally went OFF THE AIR late at night! Nothing but the test pattern!! (Anyone remember that?!)
Keeping on the radio theme for a minute, I’m enjoying, via computer, some lovely Christian Christmas music on familyradio.com. You can click either “west coast feed” or “east coast feed”. We used to have a Family Radio station here in the Seattle area, but a few years ago, they lost the location for their tower. I haven’t heard if they have a new one or not. We loved that station in our cars–so nice to drive to (and sometimes sing along with) their traditional Christian hymns and gospel songs!
Hi Charlotte,
Well, no pictures came up in the middle of the night…so I refreshed them again and I’m hoping….. ugh!!!
I do remember when the TV channels went off the air at night too…and I remember that test pattern. I’m not that far behind you, Charlotte!
I think I’ll put on some Christmas music today and sing along too…it sounds better than growling at my computer!
Thanks Charlotte, for reminding me of what REALLY matters!
Blessings, Jeanne
I feel your pain, Jeanne! Who hasn’t had computer troubles, though, it’s a fact of life now…..and so frustrating! And then when you ask for help and get it, you can’t understand what they are talking about!
I’m happy that you decided to use a pretty hair bow! Simple and sweet!
Yes, Charlotte, I too am over 70 and remember the early days of TV. Yes, the Indian test pattern! Although I will say we did get a TV in the late 40’s, only because my mother’s uncle had a radio and TV store, and he put ours in. All the kids in the neighborhood came over after school to watch Howdy Doody! We were the only people with a big antenna on top of the house too!
I loved the radio show I called The Cream of Wheat Show, where they read fairy tales, or rather had actors read the parts. I don’t know if it was a local show or not, but I loved it and can still remember the song about Cream of Wheat they sang!
The memories you bring back Jeanne, due to your computer problems!!
HI Linda,
I have some pictures loaded now… YAY for Kristoffer! The hat’s a bit silly looking, but the bow will be much better, I’m sure!
While Kristoffer was here I showed him the Indian Test pattern… he had never seen that before and thought it was quite unique… I hadn’t seen that in years and it brought back memories to me too…
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Linda! Our neighbor across the street had a TV long before we did, so we were often invited to go over there and watch The Lawrence Welk Show each week–and possibly something else, I suppose, but in the parsonage, evenings are often taken up with church activities–choir practice, council meetings, etc.
We got our first TV in 1957, I think, when I was 11. My brother and I watched Howdy Doody, The Mickey Mouse Club, and of course the Roy Rogers show and the Gene Autry show. Then, summer of 1960, we MET Gene Autry! What a thrill, and purely coincidental–we were all at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (as it was called then) and his publicist approached us. Mr Autry even posed for pictures with us!
Yes, I remember test patterns. I’d nearly forgotten. We went to the neighbors to see TV — I remember Flash Gordon there, and at my grandfather’s on Saturdays, there was the show about the circus boy — maybe that was it’s name. When we finally got a TV, our favorite show was The Thin Man. My most memorable TV experience was when our 2nd grade class got to walk across the street to the house of a classmate to see Eisenhower become President. I’ll bet the room full of little kids, with the girls in their dresses, was too cute for Mrs. Hahn to ever forget and I’ll bet she’d be happy to know that some of us remembered it all these years later.
I do hope you can get your computer problems solved. The most important thing is not speed but being sure you keep all your pictures. You have a major treasury online and asking everyone who ever bought from you to send the clothes back for new pictures is a complete fantasy. But wouldn’t it be fun to see all of them again?
HI Marilyn,
I think we’ve all taken a trip down memory lane today… I’m wondering if the circus boy show was Toby Tyler? Wasn’t that with Kurt Russell when he was little? I might be wrong, but that was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read your sentence…
I remember the name The Thin Man but not the show…
Ahhhh…what sweet memories you had… I love it!
Kristoffer was here and I now have pictures on my blog post! Yay!
I told me the same thing… I can lose anything EXCEPT my pictures and my blog posts! He did good! :o)
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
I checked Wikipedia. Circus Boy was called Circus Boy and the lead was played by Mickey Braddock who became well known again as Micky Dolenz of the Monkees. The Thin Man was based on a book by Dashiell Hammett and starred Peter Lawford and Phyllis Kirk as a couple who solved mysteries. My family loved Topper too. And the Man from UNCLE.
Nice memories, but it sounds like it’s time for you to have a new computer and a Civil War Christmas fashion show.
I’m so sorry about your computer issues. It is frustrating and scary. Do you have an external back up system? You can schedule your computer to back its files up every night to another source like the cloud or a separate hard drive. That way you won’t ever lose more than one day’s worth of stuff. I’m sure your son could help you set it up. It provides peace of mind.
I like the idea of a bow and am looking forward to seeing pictures soon.
Hope you have a good day.
Take care –
HI Charlotte,
I do have an external back up system, but it’s almost full… I’ve had it being loaded with all my pictures since 2009! EEP! That will probably come next!
A bow it is! Thanks so much, Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
It looks like Santa will be coming to your house early this year. The little bow sounds great for Lian, my favorite of your dolls. The apron is darling and so special having been made with the special gift fabric. Maybe the giver will buy the dress! Wouldn’t that be funny. I’ve been having “fun” with an invisible zipper. Be sure to press the zipper as per the instructions on the package before putting it in. Experience is the best teacher and I’m glad it was a salvageable mistake I made. Good luck with the computer.
HI Susette,
Those invisible zippers can be a bit intimidating, can’t they? I got your email where you said you ended up putting it in by hand… I did that once too, on a little girls dress… I’m so glad you were able to save the dress… it was too cute to mess up on!
Thanks Susette! I can’t wait for Riya to get her dress… she’s going to love it!
Blessings, Jeanne
We had computer problems all day yesterday too. A friend in Seattle and one on the east coast also had problems so it may not have been just your computer. Anyway, hoping it can be fixed for you.
We also had an early tv about the same time as everyone above. My dad installed it. We of course, had the roof antenna but because my dad was a HAM, we also had a 50ft tower in the backyard. I so remember the test patterns. Especially, one New Years when I was babysitting and all of the channels went off at midnight. Bad. Loved the story of the 2nd graders. Since my dad was an engineer and owned a wholesale electronics supply store, we also had the first color tv in the area. Everyone would gather at our home to watch Bonanza. The color was a bit iffy in those days, fortunately the quality has improved over the years. All the old shows were so fun. Howdy Doody was a definite favorite for me too. I also like Winkie Dink where you drew a map on a plastic thing that went over the picture tube and Saturday Sky King who flew an airplane called the Songbird. Oh memories! See Jeanne, we don’t need pictures at all.
Can’t wait to see the finished outfit and bow. I imagine is will be lovely.
Hope your computer problems are resolved today. Ours are this morning and I even visited ebay and found something very cute and about 13 inches tall. No not a LD, but she is cute. 🙂
HI Joy,
I think my computer was in a class all of its own with the troubles it had… it was too full of pictures and too full of everything else. We’ve had it since 2009….
Wow…how fun to be the first to own a color TV… you must have been the envy of the neighborhood!!! Seriously!! I was just watching an episode of Bonanza at my mom’s yesterday when I was killing time before my haircut.
Ben and his sons had come from a cattle drive where they had made $30,000 for their sold cattle. It just so happened that a bank had been robbed and $30,000 was missing… The sheriff and some guys of his were in on it, but they had Ben and the boys put in jail and were planning on splitting the money. The Cartwrights were found guilty and were going to be hung the next morning. Somehow Little Joe escaped and rode out of town and was clearly going to be the one who saved the day. I had to leave and don’t know what happened… Anyone remember this episode? Silly, but I’d like to know how it ended…
Oh Joy, you’ll have to share your new 13″ treasure! I can’t wait to see her!
Blessings, Jeanne
Uh, I think all of the Bonanza episodes had a happy ending. That was my kind of show! 🙂 And mostly the only kind I was allowed to watch.
As to the new 13″ dolly, she has red hair! Won’t be here for awhile though.
Oh, yes, Joy–I LOVED Winky-Dink! I can still remember a bit of the theme song!
We watched Sky King, too! Thanks for the memories!
Oh good. Glad I’m not the only one. 🙂
Remember when i had computer problems not that long ago? It so aggravating when they don’t work and remember when we all lived happily without them. I never saw one until I was in college.
The hair bow sounds sweet and perfect. Bows are the perfect accessory for a Christmas dress. Looking forward to pictures.
You might be able to make one more dress before Christmas and I’m voting for a Civil War one. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t recall your making a Civil war Christmas dress that I would have seen.
I did a slight modification to my custom Moriah (Nellie base with #33’s wig) about two weeks ago. I pierced her ears using the pushpin method. Piece of cake! Now she can wear human earrings. I don’t care for the big holes that AG’s piercing leave. This way the holes are so small they don’t show when she is in eras that pierced ears wouldn’t be accurate although I will take liberty with that I think. Now compared to AG, my choices are endless. I got a nice set at Walmart that has tiny roses, rhinestones, pearls, gold hoops, little gold stars with blue bead dangles and a few others.
We got our first snow today, maybe 1/2 inch, but enough to cover things and make the Christmas lights look, oh, so beautiful.
HI Laura,
You can’t remember any of my Civil War Christmas dresses? I have a few that I can think of… I might have to do a blog post on Christmas Fashions during the Civil War…I’m really hoping to get another dress made besides Lian’s! I was worried that my camera wasn’t going to let me load my pictures… I was just sick about that… until Kristoffer figured it out!
Moriah sounds like she has lots of earrings to pick from and what fun you’ll have figuring out which ones to put with which outfits!
My sister, Cindy, got snow in PA too!
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, your computer problems have given us a change to stroll back memory lane.
Joy, my dad was a gadget guy so we had all the “cool” things. We also had the first color TV set in the block. Remember the “color” TV idea with the strip of tri-colored plastic that you stuck to the front of the TV? We had that also.
My favorite TV show was Rocky and Bullwinkle! I also loved Perry Mason and Father Knows Best. And let us not forget the Mickey Mouse Club!
So Jeanne, sorry for the computer problems but thanks for the memories (smile).
HI Dorothy,
I never dreamed a “picture-less” post could be so much fun… I have loved learning about everyone’s favorite TV shows when they were growing up… I LOVED Perry Mason too, and Father Knows Best… 2 really good choices!
I’ve enjoyed the “memories” as much as anyone here!
Thanks Dorothy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Yay! For now, at least, we have pictures. Thank you, Kristoffer. The hat doesn’t work with the pinafore, but check to see what it looks like with just the dress. It might work as a variation. Don’t throw it away — it might be a nice extra thing for the auction winner.
Lovely to hear Laura talk about the snow.
Also Yay! for Perry Mason.
Now we’ll wait to see if everything works tonight to see if you can show us your day as well as tell us about it.
HI again Marilyn,
I thought I’d just throw in the hat too…maybe it would be cute with jeans or something… but just not the dress Lian’s wearing…
Oh…another Perry Mason fan… Do you like Colombo too? I do! He’s such a classic!
I hope to be ready for anything on Monday morning!
Thanks so much Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Sorry you had to go through the frustration of the dreaded computer problem. I always breathe a sigh of relief when mine comes on and is running at a decent speed. Santa will surely give you a wonderful price on one??
I had a totally wonderful day with my friend who is a regional director for UFDC. She needed company to keep her alert as we went to Lawrence KS and back in one day. She visits the Doll Clubs in her region. This visit was the Over The Rainbow Doll Club’s Christmas Party. Oh my what a wonderful group of ladies. Their Club Doll is Elowyene(sp?)
They exchanged the loveliest dresses or accessories for her. Everyone contributed to the lovely lunch and the long table was decorated in Bleuettes dressed in Christmas dresses. A heavenly dolly day! Wish you all could have been there!
HI Kathie,
Oh my, it sounds like a fun day!!! One we all would have liked to tag along on… Did you take pictures? It sounds like a really fun day and I would liked to have seen the Bleuette’s as the centerpieces!!! I can’t even imagine how sweet that must have looked!
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Maybe the hat needs less “muffin” how about a pom pom pulling it down in the center?
HI Christal,
I already did pull it down in the middle and stitched it in a circle to pull out some of the fullness…I think I just made the muffin part too big… I may take it apart some day, but not today… it’s just a little too goofy looking to suit me…
Thanks Christal,
Blessings, Jeanne
