I absolutely HAD to do some housework today! It wasn’t a matter of “wanting” to, it was a matter of necessity…(you know… no forks, no spoons, no glasses…that kind of necessity!) I hadn’t done any dishes since Saturday, (EEP!!) because I was busy with the party. We’ve been going full throttle; both of us, and today I had to put on the brakes… I had to take my mom to a doctor visit, and a few places, but when I came home… it was work, Jeanne, work!
The only problem is, now I have no post, because I didn’t sew anything to show you, I didn’t buy anything at Joann’s to show you, and I didn’t find any treasures anywhere to share. But, I will be brave and show you my sewing room… not in all its glory, but in all its messiness! …and really, I shouldn’t! When we moved my mom, my sisters said, “here, take this, here, have this,” and I ended up with lots of sewing things… bobbins, thread, pins, elastic, etc, but the stuff is still sitting in bags all over my room. It’s pretty messy, But here goes…
So… since your fearless leader is cleaning house, I have a question to ask you today. We’re almost to the end of 2017 and I was wondering:
What has been your favorite thing you’ve learned or liked on my blog this year? I just wanted to see what everyone had to say…
Rebecca and her dad are working on her car tomorrow, but I’m hoping to work on the doll fashions slide show too… I’m lost trying to do it on my own…but it’s coming! I promise!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Well, Jeanne, this is taking some thinking on my part, but since your blog is basically a sewing blog, I like to think of it as a fabric–a fabric of life, and each one of us is a thread that makes up this wonderful fabric! We are all so diverse, from different parts of the country, and maybe even the world, and we have different life situations, but overall, we are the parts of a whole and we hold each other up to become one wonderful fabric of life. It’s caring, doing for others, crying, laughing and sharing our hopes, fears and joy. It’s the wonderful feeling of being with a group that genuinely likes one another, and to feel a kindred spirit among us! And that’s what I LIKE, more importantly, LOVE, about your blog!!
Do what you have to do today, Jeanne, we certainly understand!!
HI Linda,
I’m very late getting to comments today, but at least wanted to acknowledge your kind comments and tell you how much it means to me that you enjoy your visits with me so much! I love your analogy of us all being threads in the fabric of life… How sweet! I’m very flattered and blessed by your kind thoughts! It is just as wonderful for me as it is for all of you!
Thanks so much, Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love your tutorials… especially the one showing how you make your tulle slips:) Even though I’ve sewn for many years, I always enjoy learn something new.
I slso love your sense of humor.. reminds me if ine if my favorite bloggers ( although she was ahead if her time)..Erma Bombeck:)
Merry Christmas, Jeanne❤️??
HI Shara,
What an honor to be lumped in with Erma… she was a riot when she wrote! Loved her books.
I’m glad you like to tutorials… I guess I need to do some more! :o)
Thanks so much and Merry Christmas to you too, Shara,
Blessings, Jeanne
I loved just seeing the picture of your sewing room (this isn’t my favorite thing but I wanted to add it). It may be a little messy but I still find it interesting to see how you set things up.
My favorite specific activity are your tutorials but my favorite thing about your blog is the connection, the friendship among everyone. You so often seem worried about entries that are not about sewing and yet our lives are filled with many things that are not sewing related. Your blog is a life blog with a sewing theme. Through that approach, we all learn so much about you (your family and neighbors) and each other. It is that fellowship is my favorite thing.
Have a good day!
Take care —
Thank you, Charlotte, for your very sweet comments. I’m glad I can write about other things besides sewing and everyone still seems to enjoy them. Wow… a life blog with a sewing theme.. . I like that!
I like the fellowship part too! :o)
Thanks very much Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my, the girls above said it all. Linda, Charlotte, you wrote beautiful messages and they are so moving and that expresses how I feel about Jeanne’s post and I bet many others feel the same. The friendship and camaraderie… such a blessing.
I also marvel at your beautiful clothes and how they go together, Jeanne. I can barely sew a button on but I surely enjoy watching your talent and creativity. I also love your home renovations because I love doing the same thing. I even love organization in drawers and cabinets, so I like the work you have done in yours.
Blessings to all ! 5 more days till His birthday!!
Thank you Paula,
Again, I’m humbled at the kind things you have shared. I am so glad to have this blog to connect to each and every one of you! It used to be just about the sewing, but now it’s become more about the friendships!… of course, with the sewing still on the side! :o)
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
I believe the most favourite thing was seeing you hubby laying on the new floor with Reuben and watching tv. It was just an endearing and precious photo. 😀
HI Christine,
Yes, that was one of my all time favorite pictures too. I really should have that one blown up!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love your sewing room picture, doll stands on the floor. It’s real and not a staged, at least for today. 🙂 So much to do and so little time.
Your blog, The Soap Opera of Life, keeps me coming back each day to see the next episode. Such a wonderful variety of happenings and hearing from your readers too. I never know what awaits each day as open the mail. The variety of topics covered is quite amazing. I know your brain never sleeps coming up with new ideas. Love it all and your readers too.
Now onward and tick off that long list of awaiting objectives towards that big day Monday.
HI Joy,
Yes, that picture was as real as it gets… unless you saw the pile of dishes in my sink… I wasn’t brave enough to show that. You all might run and hide!
I love that I’m the Soap Opera of Life to you… I think that’s a compliment… even though I don’t watch soaps… I know what you mean.
I never really intended for my blog to turn into a kind of Saga, with people coming back daily to see what was happening today, but it has and I guess that’s okay… if I was losing readers I might have to rethink things, but so far it’s going well!
Thanks very much Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
What beautiful sentiments in the Comments today. Linda pretty much says it all with backup from the rest of your readers. I loved making new friends through your blog this year. I would never have all the interest in dolls that I do if I hadn’t been seeing the wonderful outfits you make for the dolls and the sewing techniques you share. Following your life story is so interesting, hearing about you holding things together and sharing your goodness with so many people. And pictures of every thing from chickens to Baby Gaterah have been interesting. Thanks for every word.
Thank you, Susette,
I’m so glad you are one of my readers… so glad you found me, clear out there in CA and yet, somehow we connected… What a blessing it is to have helped increase your love of sewing for dolls! I’m thrilled that that happened to you!
It’s very fun for me to see what everyone else is doing these days and read about their lives too…
Thanks for all the ways you contribute, Susette!
Blessings, Jeanne
Dear Jeanne, it’s definitely meeting new friends. As I have noted, I don’t cook, I don’t sew, I don’t do crafting but I LOVE dolls and meeting new people. You have created a place in which I can do both.
I enjoy just reading about what you are up to. Blogs are the living biographies of our times. I am delighted to be part of your life and the lives of the other readers.
Also, I joined when you posted about the Secret Santa Swap. I know that couldn’t happen. I stayed on because everyone is so caring. As you know, I joined Little Darlings ning, which is doing a Secret Santa, so I got to do it there. What fun!
HI Dorothy,
Well, I hope you’ll stay around for a long time! We all seem to enjoy the friendships the most and I have the friendliest readers of any blog I know of, so you are in good company when you stick around here! :o)
Thanks for being a part of this little group, Dorothy!
Merry Christmas,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh Jeanne there is so much I love about your blog but I think the others have just about summed it up. I, too, really enjoy the tutorials. You are so creative and inventive, I just love seeing your projects. Yours is the only blog I religiously read – sometimes a day or two late but I love following along. I liked the way Charlotte described your blog “a life blog with a sewing theme” – that’s great. Enjoy hearing from other readers and have learned a lot from them too.
You and your husband have inspired me to be more giving of myself to help others in need. I marvel at your fellowship. I have to say my favorite post was when you shared the good health news about George.
Thank you very much Leigh,
I am so blessed to have the readers I do! Everyone is so kind and thoughtful and caring… it’s just the nicest family we have here! I’m so happy you like coming to visit each day… I enjoy it too!
I was thinking about what I was thankful for this year and my hubby’s good report was at the top of the list!
Thanks so much Leigh,
Blessings, Jeanne
I love Joys description as “The Soap Opera of Life”…your life is way better than a soap opera but you are so much fun to follow….sewing…designing…teaching….assistant Carpenter…floor layer…mom…wife..daughter…sister….friend….church member…follower of Jesus….no wonder you are one busy gal! My favorite may be the floor laying saga but I did love the lesson on slips. (Where do you find stretchy lace?)
Hope you get time to enjoy yourself a little bit!
Hugs….
HI Kathie,
I loved your comments! Thanks so much for being so kind in what you said! I’m super glad you enjoyed the flooring post… I did too and I just LOVE the floors… STILL! They are wonderful!
Stretchy lace? You can find it on Ebay.. just type in Stretch lace and it generally pops up. Hobby Lobby has some stretch lace too (2″ wide) … on rolls, and it’s usually 50% off…they just started carrying some that looks to be 4″ wide, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Etsy has some stretch lace too!
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
What wonderful comments. Linda, Charlotte and Susette summed it up. Naturally, I love the sewing and seeing the pretty dresses you make and the tutorials, but mostly it’s having gotten to know you and all the other wonderful people. It’s funny that we have the doll connection, but we seem to have so much more in common.
Love the sweet picture on your sewing room wall. Hope you got your house all tidied up.
HI Laura,
Well, my house isn’t totally cleaned up, but it’s getting there! Thanks for being a part of this group, Laura. I am thankful for your knowledge of the dolls and appreciate when you share things I have no clue about.
We all do have that “doll connection” which has turned into the “friendship connection!” I’m so blessed to call of you my friends!
Thanks Laura,
Blessings, Jeanne
There are many things I love about your blog, Jeanne, but I especially love the wonderful close-up photos of the things you make. They are so clear, we can practically count the stitches! I like that your photos show true excellence in sewing–as a sewer myself, I really appreciate your attention to detail–and, as the winner of one of your outfits (Ten Ping sends greetings!), I can say for a fact that in person they are just as exquisitely made as your pictures show!
I know I’m late getting to this, so you may not ever see it, but, for what it’s worth, that’s what I like best. (And my sewing room is in a Lot worse shape than yours! LOL)
