Anyone who has followed my blog for any length of time knows how much I LOVE making Civil War dresses. I’m practically in heaven when I get a chance to sew one. I’m not exactly sure why I feel that way… maybe it’s because there are so many possibilities with the designs. I just enjoy seeing how realistic I can make them turn out. It’s my biggest thrill when I make one and show it to my hubby, and ask him, “Can you guess what era this is from?” When he guesses “the Civil War?” I practically get goose bumps! “Yep! That’s right!”
Well, the other day, Laura mentioned something about showing some Christmas Civil War gowns and I am thrilled to oblige! I don’t have all my pictures located yet, but Susette suggested I just use my “search box” and find them that way…I will and I did! Hope you enjoy the slide show! They are some of my very favorites!

This is my all time favorite Christmas sign! I found it one time when I was visiting Deb… I should have bought it, but I just snapped this picture. It makes me laugh every time I read it!
Well, those are the only Christmas Civil War dresses I could think of and find. I’m sure there are more, but I’ll have to wait until I have my pictures all in order…

Those dresses are so beautiful. I’d be happy with any of them and happier with all of them. I think the universal favorite will be the first picture of Rebecca with that lovely cap. You could sell those in your Etsy store too, though coordinating the two pieces is the best idea.
I am so glad the search box idea worked. A new computer is a mixed blessing, and any function that does what you need it to is a wonderful thing. With all your pictures, some really good means of organizing is a major necessity. You’ll have to add “computer storage” to the “filed under” section of yesterday’s blog.
The candy yesterday looked so good, and the variations sounded so good. How have you managed not to sample so many that you have to make more? These will be real temptations in the face of your sugar-free diet.

When I read your comments about owning all of them, I had a thought… wouldn’t it be fun to have one big picture with all my dresses in it? Like a big collage or a photo shopped picture of everyone standing beside each other… oh how fun that would be for me…
I did like Rebecca’s hat… the one you are referring to… It took a bit of doing, but I did it, and love how sweet it looks.
I’m in the kitchen again this afternoon and evening and it’s been very tempting… I try to box them and bag them up as soon as I get them made… I won’t lie…. I have sampled a few of them… just to make sure they were still as good as I remembered… They were!!! :o)

Marilyn just took the words out of my mouth, yes, I love the second picture with Rebecca in that lovely gown and cap! The last picture of Addy looks very similar to the one that Rebecca is wearing, but on further checking, it does have several differences. Both are very pretty! Are these made with the same pattern?
I also love the Little Women dresses! It reminds me of the year one of my sister’s gave each of us a Little Women doll, mind you, we were adults! We got the one whose birth order matched ours, so I got Meg. Little Women has always been a favorite of mine.
I’m wondering, are you still on your sugar-free diet? How do you manage to not eat all that delicious candy you are making? And George too? And how are the birds?
What a windy day yesterday! The power went on and off several times, but luckily, not for long. I’m ready for a little, teensy, bit of snow, just to make things look pretty and Christmasy!!

Yes, we are still going no sugar, but as I told Marilyn, I’ve cheated a few times… it’s hard and I have to be strong. George is much better at resisting than I am…
We have a new little Fantail… I have been so busy I missed taking pictures of him (or her) when it was just little bitty… I’ll share my pictures soon.
Well, I hope you get your teensy, weensy, little bit of snow… I just hope it stays up in St. Louis… I want it after Christmas… I have too much to do before Christmas to deal with snow… unless it can just snow on the grass and not the roads! :o)

All your Civil War dresses are beautiful. I think my favorite is the plaid. I have a special place in my heart for plaids.
We’re busy digging out from the snow storm here (mid-Michigan). It packed quite a punch (7-8″ of the white stuff).

I am still searching for that fabric… I have a tiny piece left, but it’s too big of a plaid for my smaller girls and not big enough of a piece for my larger girls… I did see it in a pretty blue and might have to settle for that color… it’s very pretty. Thanks so much!

Love the Civil War dresses., especially the Little Women gowns. Maybe you could do a series of Little Women dresses through-out next year? Each girl having a “Christmas Eve” or ” Christmas Day” dress. The story is such a beloved classic and their dresses and wraps and bonnets were so neat.

I can see why the civil war dresses are your favorites…they showcase your talents from head to toe! The headpiece on the second one looks so authentic!
I hope you get to try a second batch of the nut clusters using the white almond bark and like the less chocolately flavor.
That Santa message is a hoot…and we would probably all like that!

I had to go to town for a few things today and actually let myself stop in Joann’s for a few minutes… guess what I was looking for? A new Civil War print for a Christmas dress. Yep, I still think I can squeeze one in, if I do a 3 day listing… I didn’t find any prints that grabbed me so I thought I’ll have to check at home again and see what I already have…
If I let my dishes go and didn’t sweep my floors or make my bed, I might be able to pull it off… I know it’s silly, but I really wanted to have more than ONE measly dress for Christmas this year… worst year EVER! But it was a different kind of season…

Yes, I do recognize the two you created for Rebecca. I don’t know how I forgot those. I didn’t see the creation of the other ones. I do know now why I thought you hadn’t done any Civil War Christmas dresses and that is because I didn’t remember a Christmas one with Addy as the model. I love the Little Women gowns and the last one on Addy, but they are all beautiful. I never tire of seeing Civil War clothing. i actually have a picture of myself when I was about 12 and when to the Ohio State Fair, They had a photo booth set up that year and dressed you up in Civil War clothes. I went with a friend of mine and her mom and we all had pictures taken.
Love Paula’s idea about Little Women dresses for next year. I love two movie versions of Little Women, the one with Elizabeth Taylor and the one with Winona Ryder.
