Today was pretty special! When I got up this morning, my hubby announced that we were going to have another family join us today. He helped them get a bed on Monday (they had been sleeping on the floor) and found out they weren’t doing anything for Thanksgiving. They are from Nigeria and I met them at the BIG Thanksgiving Dinner from church the other night, but I didn’t realize until they walked in the front door that they were the same couple. What’s a few more mouths to feed with as much food as we were having… His name is Wally (that’s what we call him) and her name is Ololade (pronounced “Oh-Lola-Day”) and they have a little 18 month old daughter named Flourish! We had a great time getting to know them better. They had already met Jean and Bithar (from Haiti) at church, so it was an easy mix today.
Including us, we had 6 adults and 4 kids and baby Gaterah! The food was just as delicious as yesterday and we had plenty! The big hit again, was the corn casserole! I thought I’d share a few shots from today!
Here’s the table before my company arrived…
Before anyone got here, I found Reuben on the couch without a care in the world… I though it was sweet…
It seems like my hubby ended up in all the pictures I took…
Here are some sweet pictures of Bithar and Gaterah…
My turn to hold her…
We had a really nice time and I think the kids did too… one of the things that warmed my heart was seeing the kids scoot around on my new floors in their socks… that never could have happened with the plywood floors we used to have. My hubby and I both noticed it!!!
Okay, now here are some other pictures from today… Rebecca bought Reuben a new Thanksgiving toy…a turkey… my picture isn’t too clear as he was licking his chops like crazy in anticipation of getting it… His tongue was going wild…
Five minutes later it looked like this…
…and five minutes after that picture, both ends were chewed off. I think he thought he was “supposed” to eat it!
Later in the afternoon my brother sent me a text… “Me after dinner!”
Then my sister, Deb, sent this picture of Wink…
Reuben didn’t quite know what to think of all the kids… he was in my hubby’s lap when I snapped this picture…
I hope your Thanksgiving was as enjoyable as ours was… We were blessed with new friends and stories and (probably 3 new pounds!!!) :o)
My brother is bringing my mom back from his house Friday afternoon and my sisters are coming in too… YAY… I can’t wait to see them, but we have some “business” to take care of while they are here… I’ll try to be around, but no promises…
Sorry, but no sewing for a few days…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I loved to hear about your second day of Thanksgiving, Jeanne! It’s almost like the “12 Days of Christmas”, but you have 10 more to go!! I’m sure you have had enough Thanksgiving though! Everything looked so nice and George was quite the host!
Oh my goodness, that adorable baby! She gets cuter every time I see her, if that’s possible!
Rueben is quite a character, and that turkey—maybe he thought it was the real thing!
I am exhausted today even though our company was here only a few hours. The meal was good, but whether you are cooking for 2 or 15, you have to pretty much stay in the kitchen all day preparing a Thanksgiving meal. The best part, is today—-leftovers!
Writing today to tell you that the corn casserole and the sweet potato souffle were a hit and everyone really enjoyed them. Definitely a keeper for the future. Best part was that I made them as sides and took them to our dinner. I have always thought that it was the best idea to share the cooking; one person do the turkey, dressing and mash potatoes and everyone else bring the sides and desserts. It certainly was a wonderful day. You and your husband offered the best in hospitality and looks like it was enjoyed by everyone. The pictures and the people are just wonderful, especially the baby; she is growing very fast. Enjoy your time with your sisters.
Glad you had such wonderful meals. Everyone looks so happy. Your sister Deb’s cat is the identical twin to our cat Razzle. LOL 😀
What nice pictures of both your Thanksgiving Days with family and friends. Your table looked wonderful and the food scrumptious. Our corn casserole was a hit too among other things.
Enjoy your weekend with the Siblings and relax and have fun!
It sure is fun to share you days! It looks like you and George thrive on the company. Your table looked lovely. I second everyone’s comments above about the lovely families and hospitality you offered them. A wonderful Thanksgiving Day for al. Good luck with the rest of your weekend and hope all will go smoothly.
Oh, forgot. That turkey for Reuben was a scream! Gaterah is just adorable and growing fast. It was nice to see George in the pictures hosting and it looks like everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.
Loved the pics of Reuben! What a handsome little guy he has become.
Looks like everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your fabulous table and food.
We had a long round trip drive with tons of traffic both coming and going, but seeing everyone was a lot of fun.
I added a CA twist to the corn dish. And I might add, yours is delicious, but I can never leave a recipe alone. I have no idea why. It just happens. I added one yellow or maybe it was a white onion chopped and cooked making about 3/4 of a cup and one can of mild chopped chilies. It was delicious and there was only a tablespoon leftover. I also used Trader Joe’s cornbread mix which has corn in the mix. The kids even tried it. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
Should be wonderful having your family in town. Hope all goes well. Be thinking of you.
I’m sure we will brave the crowds and hit some stores after reading the newspaper ads from yesterday. I was astounded at the stuffed parking lots we saw in the malls as we drove home. Guess Thanksgiving shopping is alive and well.
Double the good times for you and your family! So everyone liked the corn casserole but did they like stuffing and turkey too?
Could that baby be any more adorable? She needs to model for a doll. So sweet and happy.
I need to finish putting up the trees…it looks like Christmas threw up in my living room right now . Maybe I can work off too much stuffing and pie
Hope you get some well earned rest today?
How wonderful to open your home and your heart to others! I believe that is what we all should do. What a lovely and festive time you had. Thanks for sharing the joy.
Sounds like a wonderful second Thanksgiving. I’m sure everyone enjoyed themselves. Bithar’s little girl has certainly grown since we last saw her, so cute.
Aww, Reuben looks so sweet laying on the sofa. My little Yorkie and now the kitties love to lay on the sofa seat or back and soak up the sun. Wink in cute on her back. My kitties like to lie on their back as well and have their tummies rubbed, Love Reuben’s “seasonal” toy. My kitties got two “Christmas” mice and a moose wearing a Santa hat as new toys. Got to keep the furbabies entertained.
Hi everyone…
My brother is here, and Deb just arrived!!! Oh boy!!!
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures today. We sure enjoyed ourselves with our friends….hope you are all either out shopping or at home resting from your Thanksgiving day!
Thanks everyone!
Blessings, Jeanne
