My first Christmas dress of the season…

Well, sort of….it’s not entirely finished…actually, hardly started, but it’s going to be a sweet looking dress.

There were several things that kept me busy today, so sorry I never made it to your comments. It sounds like everyone is going to have a wonderful time whether they go anywhere or stay home. I love your traditions and the special things you all share with your families…thanks so much for sharing!

I guess you can see I got my computer fixed!!! I tried calling my satellite company and never could get through…so “who ya gonna call???” Kristoffer…that’s who!!! He helped me over the phone and I got back online!!! That son of ours is quite talented!!!

Would you like to see a few pictures of the first Christmas dress of the season? I asked who wanted the first Christmas dress and everyone shouted, “I do, I do,” but Lian just had a look on her face that won me over…it also helped that she looks so adorable in red!

I only have the dress cut out and the bodice and sleeves worked on. It’s pinned together but I hope you like it! I’ve had this snowflake fabric for a little while and think it’s so pretty. I was wondering who might end up with it… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Glad to hear that you got your internet back. I always get very frustrated when mine goes out.
Beautiful dress beginnings! It is such pretty fabric and I love the double-edged lace. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the dress!
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care —

    1. HI Charlotte,
I’m able to get on the internet, but something is still wrong… I can’t print out my labels and it’s terribly slow getting from one page to the next. Fortunately, Kristoffer is coming over for Thanksgiving tomorrow night. Rebecca is off and so we’re doing it tomorrow night…
I’m glad you could see some hope for Lian’s dress. It’s barely a start but I still wanted to share it with you all.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Jeanne, what can you expect if Kristoffer has genes from George? So happy he got it working again!

That’s going to be a darling dress, and it will work for Valentines too, since that is in February, and snowflakes work then too, at least here! The lace echoes the snowflakes perfectly and maybe some more on the skirt? I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us with this darling dress!

    Have a good day, Jeanne!

    1. HI Linda,
Yep, I think I’ll keep that son of mine… he’s pretty handy… almost as handy as his dad! :o)

I hadn’t thought about the red dress working for Valentine’s Day, but you’re right, it would.
I hope I find some time this week to do a little more on it…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. New dress is lovely on Lian. She’s going to want to keep it! So, looks like you self lined this one. Do you usually do that? Just curious.
Busy next few days. What are you and family doing for Thanksgiving?

    1. HI Joy,
Actually the bodice is lined in a white batiste, no the red fabric. Ever since that one black velvet dress I made with a black lining, and it stained a lady’s doll, I’ve been trying to use white for the linings or the fabric if it’s a lighter colored fabric. I learned my lesson the hard way on that! :o(

We just decided this morning we are having a Thanksgiving dinner with our kids (my mom was picked up by my brother yesterday), along with Alba, Edgar and Sara tomorrow evening. It was what worked for that group…
Then on Thursday, we are having another Thanksgiving dinner with Jean and Bithar and the kids… couldn’t do them together, because of everyone’s schedules, but this will be fine. I am getting ready to start cooking…UGH! I’ve got a boat load of things to do…
Then my sister Deb, Cindy and Tom and my brother will be coming back with my mom…
We are hoping something is happening this time with my mom and a move…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. About the lining, I guess what I meant was I know you always line, but this time, the neckline and back were turned and then every thing else stitched. Perhaps, that keeps everything from shifting? And I suppose when seams are sewn and pressed, the white lining of the seams would be doll side preventing that staining. Hadn’t thought of that as I usually make a separate lining and turn. I guess just another way to try. Good Jeanne idea.
Guess we should look at all of that pre cooking/baking as a great way to shed a few pounds before consuming the ultimate dinner. 🙂

        1. Hi Joy,
Yea, the bodice is just stitched along the edges to keep them in place, after stitching up the back and around the neck and turned.

I have done too much nibbling as I was in the kitchen today….I should have put tape over my mouth…
          Thanks Joy,
          Blessings, Jeanne

  4. You are right about Lian and that fabric. The color is perfect for her. Cranberries and snowflakes.
It looks like we may have rain today — in November. It’s so reassuring to be told that climate change isn’t happening when you are looking at unseasonable weather.

I guess you are going to have to keep sewing.

I hope you are creating a slideshow of Thanksgiving themed outfits for Thanksgiving. I don’t think you’ll have lots of extra time this week. I know you are already thankful for Kristoffer’s computer skills, as are we all.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Isn’t Lian beautiful in that fabric? I just loved it next to her skin!! You’ve given me the name of the dress…. I can’t decide on 2 things though… “Cranberry Snowflakes” or “Christmas Snowflakes” but I think it will be one of those…

I’ll do my best to keep sewing, (Jenny), and I’ll see what I can do about another red dress for you.. There is a little of the red snowflakes so maybe 2 in a row from it… :o)

I might have to so some slide shows this week just to give everyone something to look at… my week is looking to be busier than I expected… Oh well… friends and family… my 2 favorite things… (*next to dolls*) :o)
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. The combination of the check and snowflakes is so unusual but it really works. Lian looks good in almost any color but red is her friend! It will be adorable!
    Starting cooking today..busy,busy ?

    1. HI Kathie,
I have that dainty piece of embroidered batiste you sent me in a card one time, laid out and pressed and I’m hoping to use it on this dress… I hope it works…as I absolutely love that piece… It is exquisite…and I do mean exquisite!
My baking is starting right now too! Have fun in the kitchen!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Jeanne,
I’m just about ready to throw this new pc out the window. Two comments just disappeared one after another and no way to retrieve them . I’m beginning to think it may be me because the last pc didn’t give me this many problems. Oh well just one more try… love the dress! I’m eager to see it completed. Have a wonderful few days celebrating Thanksgiving. Sounds like lots of work but wonderful company which is the best blessing!
Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and to all the readers reading this.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Hi Ingrid,
Does your new computer have Windows 10? I’ve heard lots of people were going crazy with the 10 version…
I’m just about ready to call it a day in the kitchen….the rest I can do tomorrow. I’d like to work on Lian’s dress and see what else I can get done on it.
      Thank you Ingrid,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What beautiful material! I can’t wait to see the finished item.
As I am on the waiting list for my LD, I just love staring at them. I feel like an expectant mama reading the baby books (smile). I am so happy I get to see you create this outfit for a LD.
    Gobble, gobble, Dorothy

    1. Thank you Dorothy,
Waiting is so hard, but all I can tell is…just wait!!!!! You’ll be so thrilled when she arrives.
Now to switch from baking to sewing.
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Dorothy!! Hi Jeanne!

Dorothy, it’s Never to soon to start building your prospective LD a wardrobe! After all, eventually she Will need a Christmas dress!! 😉

  8. I just knew the first Christmas dress would be a LD one. Lian does look wonderful in red and the fabric is so cute. she could even wear it in January. The lace on the sleeves is a perfect addition
Tomorrow will be very busy for me, so I’ll wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving today.

    1. Hi Laura,
It has been a really long time since Lian modeled a dress, so it was time!!!
Linda even mentioned it could be worn for Valentine’s Day too… :o)
The rest of my week is going to be crazy, so I’ll have to somehow keep my wits about me…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. I wear clothes with snowflakes on them all winter long, so yes, she could wear that dress in January and even into February! (BTW, I have one of my snowflake t-shirts on today. It’s one of my “wishful thinking” shirts–as in, I wish all this crumby rain would stop, and we’d get some snow!! LOL

  9. The dress will be so cute. The snowflakes almost look embroidered. You and Linda have inspired me to sew a dress for Kit for Thanksgiving and I’m sending a picture. Molly will be wearing one I made a couple of years ago.

Sounds like you’ll have a very busy Thanksgiving with many dinners! There’s no point in suggesting you not wear yourselves out, is there? Very thankful Momma is almost there in progressing in life’s journey. Have a wonderful few days.

    1. Hi Susette,
Oh, I’m so glad you’re going to sew something for your dolls this week…nothing like adding a little bit more to your week to make it even busier!!! :o)
I hope things go smoothly when my brother brings her back…
      Thanks so much Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne
