You’ll probably look at this dress and think, “that’s all she has finished on it?” But I have an excuse, and a good one too… I was rescuing a guinea pig from a young girls science class so he didn’t have to spend Thanksgiving break all alone! Now, isn’t that about the best excuse you’ve ever heard… and it’s TRUE too! Peanut, the guinea pig at Sara’s (my little Columbian friend) school, needed to be taken home by some student so he could be cared for over break… well, guess who volunteered? Yep, Sara… She couldn’t bring him home on the bus because the cage was too big, so her mom called me and asked if I could pick Sara up and bring Peanut and her home. After all, it’s not every day you get to transport a guinea pig, is it? So that was my first excuse for not getting more sewing done…
My second excuse was I was helping my hubby with his sawzall… he was trying to replace the switch and needed another hand. Can you tell what this means?
Me neither… (that’s a diagram of all the wires he was replacing)… so I was mostly there for “moral support” and “holding the flashlight” which is a VERY important job! :o)
My third excuse was we decided this morning that it just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without friends coming over, so Wednesday evening (because my kids were off then) we are having them and Edgar, Alba and Sara over for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner… I was in the kitchen most of the day and probably will be tomorrow too… We are having Jean and Bithar over on Thursday for a Thanksgiving Dinner. I was doing things in double batches today… I made 2 double batches of corn casserole, and 2 Sweet Potato Souffles, plus did some prepping for tomorrow. This is my menu… Turkey, Corn Casserole (their favorite!) Sweet Potato Souffle, Green Beans, Company potatoes, Salad, Rolls, Kristoffer is making a Red Velvet cake and I’m going to try and make some cookies (in my spare time)… :o)
My fourth excuse was I had a zillion dishes to do from all the cooking I did… that took me quite a while.
Well, I guess you’d probably like to see some pictures now, wouldn’t you? I have the basic part of the dress all finished, it’s hand hemmed, and the snaps and buttons are sewn on the back.
I received the sweetest , daintiest, most delicate and sheer piece of embroidered batiste, (that I think must have come off a child’s dress), from Kathie a while back. I have wanted to use it on something special and I think Lian’s dress might be “it.” I haven’t cut it the right length because I wanted to make sure I was going to use it… before cutting into such a special piece of fabric. I think I’m going to make a sweet little pinafore for Lian’s dress. Then I’m thinking of having a separate lace belt that can be worn if the pinafore isn’t worn… just a thought…
Here’s one last look… I’m loving this color on Lian. Marilyn said something in her comments about Cranberries and Snowflakes…and as soon as I saw that I liked it, but I wouldn’t have enough spaces in my title on Ebay to include “Christmas” and “Red” (which needs to be added when someone is searching), so I just changed the Cranberries to Christmas… I think it works…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne! Lian’s dress is coming along nicely, and looks so festive! I’ll be anxious to see it finished. (Ten Ping wants to know if you’re going to make a Christmas dress for Her next!!)
No, apparently those pictures of Sara and Peanut didn’t load, at least not yet. It’s 2a.m. PST, and they haven’t shown up. I’ll check back tomorrow night.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
It’s 24 hours later, and the pictures of Sara and Peanut have magically appeared!! Cute!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Lian looks so pretty and elegant, Jeanne, in that beautiful red dress! I had mentioned previously about having some of that lace on the skirt, but oh no, not with that beautiful piece of batiste you have! The certainly don’t make things like that anymore, so you are very lucky to have that! Kathie is so generous!
You certainly HAVE been busy, maybe more than busy! What a story about the guinea pig! Jeanne Marie to the rescue! Who could have turned that down? I’m exhausted just reading about it your day, and hope you get a lot of help for all the help you give to others!
Have a good time with the family today. You all have much to be thankful for!
I think you did a great amount of work on the dress given everything else you were doing. It is looking quite lovely. It was very nice of you to chauffeur Sara and Peanut. Your thanksgiving menu sounds quite yummy.
Hope you have a good day. Happy cooking!
Take care –
I was happy to see the longer cuffs on the dress as I had left them long on the matching dresses I made for Riya and her dolls two years ago. Beautiful fabrics and Lian always looks wonderful in any color but especially in (Chinese) red. A pinafore sounds extra special in the lace Kathie gave you. Have wonderful two more Thanksgiving dinners, having already had one last Saturday. That must be a record! One guinea pig is very thankful this year. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Having thought of buying a new temperature gauge at Home Depot for the heater/air conditioner when the old one failed and being the helper on the job, I know what that is: How to reconnect the different colored wires. Otherwise you’re looking at it not working and that’s the least of the possibilities. It saves so much money to do things like this yourself.
The dress is so cute on Lian. I hope you have 2 wonderful dinners with friends. Our Thanksgiving was in October, so it’s business as usual here. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! 😀
Hi Jeanne – Oh Boy – 2 Thanksgiving Dinners? You never cease to amaze me. I think of you as the Energizer Bunny! And on top of all that you’ve had time to sew on Lian’s beautiful dress. Hope you have some time to enjoy too.
Wishing you, your family and blog friends a blessed Thanksgiving.
Oh Jeanne, this dress is so sweet. I love anything “snowflake” and the batiste is just beautiful. This will be the perfect dress for Christmas and winter. Lian looks great in red too. Can’t wait to see the pinafore against whatever else you do with the dress.
It’s fun to hear all about your errands. You don’t ever need to explain why you can’t work in the sewing room. You are a busy angel fluttering about with important tasks!
Doing two Thanksgivings is “superwoman” strength. Both celebrations will be wonderful and I know everyone will appreciate your efforts.
May you, Jeanne, and your family and friends, and all your wonderful, sweet readers, have a blessed Thankgiving.
Well, that was a happy post! Such a great photo of Sara and the pardoned pig taking a ride in the car.
I some how knew you couldn’t stop at making one special dinner. Great idea to combine the troops. The menu is perfect. I’ll be making just two items today, your corn dish and the broccoli cheese. Sounds easy peasy, but you never know.
I thought Lian’s lovely dress was over the top, but when you showed that embroidered batiste, it has become an heirloom. The special piece is a perfect addition. Looking forward to seeing it in completion. Such a wonderful use of a vintage piece.
Have fun tonight with family and friends and tomorrow too. My motto, “Eat turkey!” 🙂
I wonder if the GuInez pig will like turkey?? Sara looks older already…she will have fun with Peanut..thanks to You!
Fixing traditional Thanksgiving food for your new American friends is such a nice thing to do. I wonder if they will think our traditional food is as delicious as we think it is? Watch their plates and see what disappears first.
The red of that fabric is so rich…and glad the white fabric will work..I remember you said you liked the way the lightweight fabric worked.
Hope you get help with all the dishes !
Eat lots of turkey everyone!
The dress is coming along so nicely. I don’t see how you get everything done that you do! You are a marvel (smile). I wish for you a wonderful Thanksgiving and send a second wish out to all of your readers. Gobble, gobble, Dorothy
Hi everyone,
Just checking in…my hubby decided he needed a haircut… (perfect timing, I’d say….ugh) my turkey’s in the oven, the corn casserole and sweet potato Souffle are both baked, the green beans and the company potatoes are in crock pots. The cookies are baked, my table is set, my floor is swept, I’ve gotten a shower and I’m getting ready to make a salad…
Now I can do some extra stuff…wish it was sewing…but it probably won’t be…
Thanks everyone…
Happy early Thsnksgiving to you!!
Blessings, Jeanne
