I may have had a busy day, but I still managed to find time to make a lacy mob cap and a ruffled petticoat for Felicity. She was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to get back to working on her dress. (She wasn’t the only one!)
I cut out a circle of some dainty lace I had and added an edging of vintage lace to it. Then I stitched a row of 1/8″ elastic about 2″ from the edge. I made it loose enough that it just sort of grips Felicity’s head but still has some “puff” to it. She likes it! :o)
I like how you can still see most of her red hair instead of it being all covered up with a round eared cap…
Here is her petticoat… lots and lots of ruffles. I decided, even though it wasn’t authentic to the 1700’s, to make it with a stretchy lace waistband to accommodate those differences in the waistlines on the dolls.
You can see how easily the skirt ties over the lace waistband…without adding any extra bulk…
…AND, it’s pretty easy to recognize that Colonial “bump.” The nice thing is, the petticoat doesn’t require a bum roll… the ruffle around her hips does it perfectly!
I needed to wait until I got the petticoat finished before I hemmed it.. Now that can come next!
Here’s another shot of Felicity…
I hope you enjoyed these 2 new pieces… slowly but surely this dress is getting finished!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh my goodness, that is just gorgeous, Jeanne! I love the lacy mob cap, they way it encircles her face with the lacy ruffles, and her pretty red hair shining through! It works both with and without the straw hat very well.
Wow, that petticoat! So pretty! I was thinking if anyone had an old fashioned dolly mirror on a stand, that would make a cute scene of her getting dressed! Well, maybe not, since she doesn’t have anything on top, but maybe pull the slip up a bit.
The whole outfit is just amazing, and your Felicity is going to be mighty upset when she has to take it off and send it away!
We spent all day yesterday raking leaves in the backyard, and guess what? They are back today, almost just as much too, and I have to be a grandma today and watch Willie. Well, they sure aren’t going to go anywhere, and will be there tomorrow!
Thank you, Linda,
I’m glad you like the looks of Felicity’s mob cap. It’s just enough lace to add some “prettiness” but not be overpowering.
I could maybe figure out something to show her looking in the mirror… but being decent too! Yes, I’m afraid Felicity isn’t going to take it very well when this set has to be sent off! :o(
We had a ton of leaves fall the last few days and then today with all the rain we got, it’s one big soggy mess… oh well… nothing can be done about it until they dry out…
Hope you had fun babysitting! :o)
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Felicity’s outfit is coming along nicely, Jeanne!! I like the ruffled petticoat–did you sew all those ruffles on yourself, or did you use some of that fabric that has the ruffles already on it? Whichever, it worked out really well!!
I’m coming along on Pearl’s smocked dress. Once I get it done and Pearl into it, I’ll take some pictures, and send you one.
Have a good week!
HI Charlotte,
Heavens NO…. I didn’t sew those ruffles on a piece of fabric… it comes that way…on a roll at Hobby Lobby. If you need it shorter, just cut off the ruffles where you need them to be.
Yes, please send us a picture of Pearl’s smocked dress when you are finished… Smocking… I need to do that….:o}
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Great idea, Jeanne–I wouldn’t have thought to use that ruffled fabric for a petticoat! Thanks!
I like it very much. The little touches you give an outfit always make it extra special.
Sorry this is short. I’m just a little rushed.
Hope you have a good day.
Take care –
HI Charlotte,
I hope your day didn’t stay too busy… mine was!
Thank you for the sweet compliments on the dress set! As soon as I saw your words… “Little Touches,” I thought that would make a nice title…so I wrote it down… maybe someday I’ll use it!
Thanks,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne,
I really love this ensemble, especially the hat and lace cap! Thanks for the inspiration!
Have a great day!
Thank you Marla,
I think this might be your first comment??? If so, thanks so much for taking time to let me know you liked the looks of this set….and I’m VERY happy to inspire you!
Thanks so much,
Blessings, Jeanne
Great idea for the mini lace cap. I’ll be interested in the answer to the question about whether the ruffles are premade or if you had to do them from scratch (Yikes!). It’s a beautiful ensemble, especially the color with Felicity’s coloring.
HI Susette,
I might be ambitious, but not THAT ambitious… The lace comes that way… sewn onto netting and about 10″ wide I think. It came from Hobby Lobby.
I’m thinking this is truly Felicity’s colors too… she’s going to be upset when this one comes off!
Thanks Susette,
Blessings, Jeanne
I guess most of us want to know about those ruffles. They do make a pretty slip, and if the women of Felicity’s day could see that stretch elastic, they would have used it too. If it had existed and had been affected by the Stamp Act, the revolution might have come earlier.
That’s a lovely lace cap, and it goes nicely with the lace on her straw hat. I especially love the colors in this outfit and they way they are working together. Your progress may seem slow to you, but it’s nice to have time to appreciate every step.
I’m also looking forward to seeing Charlotte T’s smocked dress.
HI Marilyn,
The lace comes sewn in those ruffles already… (Hobby Lobby).
You are SO right about that stretch lace… IF ONLY those women had had it back then… it would have made wearing those dresses and corsets much more enjoyable! :o)
I feel like it’s taken me forever to get going on this dress but it’s almost done… a few more details and one day it’ll be ready to list on Ebay!
Me too… on Charlotte’s smocked dress! She made me want to do some myself!
Thanks Marilyn, (Do you have snow? Cindy was getting sleet in PA this afternoon.)
Blessings, Jeanne
Felicity’s mob cap is perfect- not to heavy looking or flimsy. Love the lace you chose Her ruffled slip holds the skirt out just right. The whole outfit is just beautiful. Makes me wish I could wear clothes like that and swish my skirt as I walked under the shade of the green hat. All your special touches make your creations so unique, Jeanne.
Have a blessed day!
P. S. Hard to believe we are rolling through November. Soon to be Thanksgiving and then onward to Christmas. I love the season of Christmas – going to get my wonderful Christmas music and movies out.
Thanks so much for your compliments on Felicity’s dress, Paula.
I think it’s really pretty on her too… Sometimes the colors are “just right” on a doll and I think this is perfect for Felicity.
I can’t believe how fast November is going by too… already one week gone and now you are right… Thanksgiving and then Christmas will be here very quickly! I’m not ready!!!!
Thanks Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne;
I just love the lace mop cap. When it was being discussed earlier, I have to admit that I didn’t think the outfit needed it but now that I see what you have designed it really does add the right touch.
I think Paula nailed it – this outfit does transport you back in time so congratulations on achieving that. I too love the way you made the slip and will also be interested in hearing how it was constructed. Everything about the outfit is wonderful, your choice of fabrics, laces, straw hat color and trims and now the cap.
Thank you Leigh,
It’s fun when I make something and you can recognize instantly what era it is from. I think this one does that… YAY! Thanks so much for all your sweet compliments on it… I truly appreciate that!
Blessings, Jeanne
Felicity could easily blend into the colors of the season today, couldn’t she? Her smile, sweet laces and flowers would give nature a human touch as she strolled through her town in her day. It’s a beautiful ensemble, Jeanne.
Blessings
HI Becky,
Aside from the wet leaves outside, if Felicity was standing outside in my yard, she’d probably get lost… She’s definitely my “Fall Fancy” girl!
Thank you very much Becky, for your kind words about this set.
Blessings, Jeanne
Such a fancy slip. Lovely! Little Felicity looks like she will happily stroll through the city and gain admirations of all who view her stunning ensemble. Love how her pretty necklace hides that body seam so well too.
CA weather report: clear, crisp and rain on the way tomorrow.
Hi Joy,
If the fabric for the slip was just a little bit thicker, it could almost have been used as an under skirt and if she had a split skirt she could have worn it another way… but alas…it’s a slip!
I finally realized this necklace was perfect for the set… simple but the right color…so why mess with anything else.
Thanks Joy,
We’ve got more rain coming too.. Today was quite dreary and depressing!
blessings, Jeanne
* Joy: So glad to hear your area will get rain tomorrow. Now, hoping not a lot at once – just even paced. So unfortunate the rain couldn’t have helped out with the devastation of the fires.
That broke our hearts for the people of California.
Very sweet of you Paula. There has been a lot of fundraising so that looks good, but when you drive just about anywhere the burnt hills and standing chimney skeletons are a sad reminder of lives and homes lost. And then there are the pets. People tried to grab pets as they ran through the flames to evacuate, but so many could not be gathered in time. Many are working tirelessly to reunite found pets with their owners. A lot did not make it, and there are still quite a few cats/dogs and even horses burned quite badly who are at UC Davis in burn treatment. Local vets too are caring for some and all being done free of charge. Pets keep turning up everyday, some miles from home, so that is heartening for those still looking for a beloved one.
HI Joy,
What a kind thing to do for all the pets hurt by the fires.. Those people need a standing ovation! I’ll start….. *clap* *clap* *clap* (I’m standing! :o)
Blessings, Jeanne
How very pretty! I love the mob cap–it is the perfect thing to wear under a colonial era hat. And all those rows of tulle on the petticoat make it the perfect accessory for a full skirt. I am making some half slips for my playpal dolls, and I’m finding it pretty tedious. I need to persevere and get it done!
HI Carolyn,
Thanks for your compliments on Felicity’s new slip and mob cap… She likes them and thinks she’ll be in this dress for a long time… (Sorry, Felicity, that’s not the way it works around here.)
I hope you get your slips mastered… I did a 2 part tutorial on slips… if you didn’t know it…
just go to the search box and type in slip tutorial and they’ll come up…
Blessings, Jeanne
