Surprise, surprise! No hats again, but some “trip” pics…

First of all, thank you so much for your kind anniversary wishes and the compliments on our new flooring. We really are loving it. My hubby told me this morning, he was too tired last night to enjoy it, but this morning, he said he just went in the living room early and sat on the couch and looked at it and thanked the Lord for blessing us. They say “good things come to those who wait…” They did…and we did!

My hubby decided to wake me up and ask me if I’d like to go to Cape Girardeau, Missouri… Are you kidding…say “no” to a trip? So I was out of bed fast as The Flash…(well, not really…I was pretty tired and still sore from all that scooting around on the floor…), but I managed to get dressed reasonably fast.

I asked if we could stop at that RM COCO place where I went once before and got that fabric by the pound? I wanted to see if I could find something to line my curtains with. We went and I found a few things. They have expanded their store and it’s a sewer’s delight… here are a few pictures and the $1.00 I spent on a few pieces of fabric. I did find some fabric for my lining, but it was $2.00 a yard… and I forgot to show you…It’s just a sheer like lining… so nothing special to see…

This is a fun room to dig around it. You can find just about anything you like for making pillows…

I spent $1.00 and got this… 4 panels for pillows, a pieced of smocked-like brown silk, a piece of pink raw silk and a Christmas fabric in red and gold.

Then right down the road is a quilt shop that’s one of my favorites… The Golden Needle. I just hit the clearance table and found these few things… they’ll make some pretty little dresses… (they’re just fat quarters ~ 18″ x 22″ )

I also found 2 remnants that had a little more on them…

WE had a nice lunch at an Italian Restaurant and then went next door to a fun antique shop… we always start in the Bargain Basement… my hubby found a tool table right away…

You never know what you’ll find down there…

…and we both found a treasure. George found an antique planer… and wanted to fix it up… I forgot to take a picture of his… I found a spinning wheel that I’ll use as a prop for Felicity maybe… It had a light bulb and a cord attached but my hubby already took that off for me. I haven’t cleaned it up at all, but think it’ll be cute. I’m not sure how big a spinning wheel was supposed to be…Is that the right size, anyone?
Maybe if she was sitting down?

We went across the street to another antique shop and wandered around in there. I found 2 chairs in the half price room… $35.00 each… but I decided to pass…although they were very comfortable. They would have made a great project… but I talked myself out of them BECAUSE I HAVE TOO MANY PROJECTS TO FINISH ALREADY!

My hubby found this white lace piece for me…it’ll make 2 sweet collars for dresses…

We went to a few other places and then we started dragging… our 10 days of prepping the floor and then putting it down was catching up with us. We decided we were too tired to shop anymore. So we just enjoyed the ride home listening to music in the car…

So that was my Anniversary day… not too exciting for you, but wonderful for me!

I’ll try to see about rounding up those hats for a post… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Looks like a very fun anniversary trip to me! The fabrics are beautiful and the spinning wheel is too cute!! I’m glad you had such a good day.
Have a good day today too!
    Take care.

    1. HI Charlotte,
It was a very nice day that we got to share with each other. Yes, aren’t those fabrics just something to look at?
I did have a good, productive day today… so thanks!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. It sounds like a very pleasant day, and those fabrics are going to be wonderful to use. The brown silk may be the most fun. Will the top remnant make a Felicity dress?

The best part was reading about George sitting on the couch admiring the work you both did. That’s what makes it the best — you both did it.

    1. Thank you Marilyn,
It was such a pretty day yesterday and then to be with my sweetie… it was perfect!
That brown silk was just too neat to pass up… and the pink? I’m not sure who’ll get that!

Some men came over for a meeting tonight and they didn’t react to the floors like I expected them to. George said, “men don’t care about those kinds of things… you need to invite some women over!” I think I just might!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Christine,
There’s no one I’d rather be with than my honey… so whatever we do, it’s always fun just being together.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Sound like fun to me. I would have had to talk fast to get myself out of there without those two chairs at that price. No room at my house for them, though. I really like the prints in the fat quarters. Bottom left for Ten Ping, top right for felicity, top middle Addy? You’re the master at those decisions, so I’ll bow out. The spinning wheel is just darling. Glad you two had such a lovely day.

    1. HI Susette,
I know… those chairs were really nice… AND comfortable too. I have a pair of them up in the attic, but they don’t have as big a seat as these had, and they aren’t that comfortable… just mostly for looks. Those tan chairs would have been something people would enjoy sitting in.

I see you’ve already got my fabrics planned out, huh? The fat quarters will have to be for my littler girls as they are only 18″ x 22″.
Glad you liked the spinning wheel.
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Wish we had a place nearby for upholstery fabric. Used to years ago. Great finds. The fabric you chose from the Golden Needle reflects your special eye for perfect small prints. And the antique shops basement reminds me of all the work we have been doing at husband’s parents old home. Too bad you aren’t closer as George would have a hay day in the garage. Tons of vintage tools including planers there. I’m glad you passed on the chairs. We probably have at least seven in the garage at the other house in similar condition. I think ours will go for probably five bucks. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your anniversary day with us. Loved it.

    1. HI Joy,
That fabric outlet place is just incredible… and it’s a good thing it’s about 45 minutes away… or else I’d be there all the time… We used to have a bridal outlet not to far from here and I went there a few times… got some great bargains.

I’m glad I passed on the chairs too… too much pressure to get them done, but too many projects ahead of them… and it’s a good thing we don’t live close to you, or George WOULD be in your garage…rummaging!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Your day sounded greatly wonderful, Jeanne. I’m so glad you got to top off all of your hard work with your anniversary and spent in such a fun way for both you and George.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
It WAS a very nice day and we enjoyed doing a few different things than what we’d been doing the last few weeks… NOT WORKING was the best thing of all!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I can’t believe I missed commenting! I always read your blog first thing, but then I must have just gone onto something else quickly and forgot to say anything!

I don’t think your choices of where to go were anything close to what we went to when we were in college! In fact, probably all the so-called antiques were probably new back then anyway! I’m not sure where you and George manage to find all these things, but you sure do find them and have fun in the process! I love all the material you bought, and what a bargain! The chairs were lovely, especially at that price, but if you have no place for them, it really isn’t worthwhile.

The spinning wheel is cute, and maybe it would work as a child’s spinning wheel, because I know regular ones had huge wheels on them.
I guess tomorrow will be a “hat” day? Whatever, Jeanne, just so it is by you!

    1. HI Linda,
Since we had just bought the flooring, our day was mostly “window shopping” and trying not to spend too much money. The chairs were just a “thought…” although my hubby said if they were $20, they were pretty comfy… they might have to come home with us. Good thing they were $35.00!

Yes, tomorrow WILL be a hat day.. I was productive today! YAY!
      Thanks Linda…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi Jeanne,
I’m so glad you and George had a fun day celebrating your 36th. The fabric by the pound place looks like a sewers gold mine. The spinning wheel is a very cute find. I love antiquing… there is a place called “Antique World” near us the place is huge, Always an enjoyable time looking for a treasure to take home.
Fabric stores, antiquing and lunch sounds like a perfect day to me.
    Have an awesome Wednesday
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
Yes, fabric stores, antiquing and lunch does make a perfect day…at least for me! Throw in a few places that have tools and my hubby thinks it’s a perfect day for him too!
I did have a great day today… hope you did too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Hi Jeanne and everyone else, I am FINALLY back. What an ordeal these past week plus has been. My computer crashed, my car had a flat tire and some family issues to deal with. I actually have the laptop that was originally mine back. I had let my daughter use it and then had to wait for her to find time to take all of her bookmarks etc. back off of it. My mom bought her a new one so I could have this one back. My mom has a BIG grandchild spoiling gene. Moral, never give away what you might one day want/need back. I am catching up on the old posts I missed. I love your new flooring. It has a seafaring look to me. I’m sure you are delighted and probably keep looking at it and walking across it.
I’m so glad you had a lovely anniversary, Jeanne. How fun to go on a trip and see some new antiques. I love the spinning wheel for Felicity, I have actually been on the look out for one every since someone on PT commented that they found one. I can’t wait to see a dress you create for Felicity that incorporates the spinning wheel into the story line. Maybe Felicity could be spinning Posie’s wool and be making yarn to weave for a new dress, rug etc. Anyway, I’m glad to be back.

    1. HI Laura and WELCOME BACK!
We have missed you, but I know how sometimes “life” gets you sidetracked. I’m glad you have your old laptop back… All yours now! :o)
We DO love our new flooring and I’m like a mother hen, picking up every little speck I see on the floor, dust mopping it again and again, and enjoying it in the different lights!

Oh, I’m so glad you think Felicity’s spinning wheel looks okay to use as a prop. When I was down in that basement of the antique shop and found it, I wondered if you thought it would work… Now, we’ll have to see what I can do with it!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
