I didn’t have much sewing time, but I did find time to make the bonnet for Rebecca’s dress. I toyed with the idea of making her a brown straw bonnet and decorating it, but I didn’t have a hat mold. I thought maybe I could find a bowl or something round-ish to work as a mold, but nothing quite conformed to the shape of her head. She got tired of me trying every bowl in the house on her head, so I finally gave up. I just decided to use my old standby pattern and make her bonnet from a piece of the fabric.
(I see a few stray threads in my pictures so don’t look too closely. I’ll get them off…)
I added a strip of the white lace across the fabric and then decorated the sides with some flowers. Rebecca could hardly wait to try it on.
I fixed her hair in some curls at the back but they don’t show up as pretty in my pictures as they do in person.
I did make something else for her today…it’s a prop…I’m not quite finished with it and still am debating about whether or not to make a boned crinoline or just a pretty petticoat to make her dress stand out.
So bit by bit and day by day, this dress is coming along and is actually almost finished. I’m still debating on the name and might get my hubby’s input on that.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Wow, Jeanne! Rebecca’s outfit gets prettier by the day. Your work is astoundingly gorgeous. I’m fascinated by your designing skills and always look forward to reading your blog postings. May you have a lovely day.
Blessings.
Thank you Becky,
It’s always fun to hear what you have to say about my dresses. Thank you so much for your kind compliments.
Blessings, Jeanne
Darling hat, Jeanne! Just the perfect touch for the dress! Is that a blue ribbon underneath the lattice part of the lace? It certainly does dress up the outfit and Rebecca looks just lovely! I like the way you tie the ribbon to the side so that the cameo shows.
Some kind of slip would be nice too for making it stand out, but it doesn’t have to be a net slip either, a lovely cotton one would do the trick without making it go out too far, but give it something underneath for support. Maybe put a pretty cotton lace around the bottom of the slip and it would go with the outfit so well.
Whatever you do, I’m sure it will be perfect!!
Hi Linda,
Yes that is a piece of steel blue grosgrain ribbon that’s under the crosshatch part of the lace. I thought it brightened up the bonnet just a little bit and added an extra touch.
I usually see if I can tie the ribbons on the side to keep from interfering with what’s going on at the front center of the neck.
I think I will make some kind of a slip, not sure exactly what out of, but I think it needs something to hold it out just a little bit and make it a little dressier.
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
What a refreshing morning surprise. Love the little bonnet. Perfect. I think Linda’s idea of some lace peeking out from under the skirt hem would be delightful.
Pixie Faire has a neat little blazer jacket pattern today. Would be perfect with a skirt or jeans.
Weather here is quite fall like this morning. Better start searching for the electric blanket that was so carefully stowed away last spring. Can’t believe it was 110 just so recently.
Hi Joy,
Yes, I think a slip is definitely in order for Rebecca’s new Civil War dress.
I haven’t looked yet at the new Pixie Faire jacket pattern yet, but I plan to. Just what I need…another pattern to add to my stash.
It’s pretty warm here today too. Last time I checked it was 83 degrees. I had to go to town to get some caulk for George, and I saw lots of leaves turning on the trees already, so Fall is just around the corner I’m sure.
Thanks Joy

Rebecca looks lovely, as she always does. I like the blue ribbon and flowers on that hat to go with the cameo and embroidery on the dress. Just another day or two and this outfit will be ready for Ebay. I always hate for them to disappear, which is why I’m so grateful for the pictures that make the dresses accessible forever.
I do like that you have fabric enough and names enough to get you through fall sewing and auctions. I wonder what you’d do with the blazer pattern. Since jeans don’t interest you, it would have to be something different. It’s very classic. I’m wondering about a boot skirt and boots, of course, and a lace trimmed blouse. It could be quite Julie with a midi-skirt. It’s something to think about while you sew your way through the lovely autumn fabrics from yesterday. Lovely autumn. We need to enjoy it while it lasts. Sometimes it does.
Thank you Marilyn, for your kind comments on Rebecca’s dress. I can’t believe I had those blue flowers that went with the print of the dress…the print color is sort of a blue-gray and I wanted to highlight that a little bit. I thought the flowers gave it just enough interest when I added it to the bonnet. I was hoping to maybe get it listed on eBay tonight but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. I have too many things pulling at me today.
I haven’t looked at the new Pixie Faire pattern yet, but I’m going to. Who knows maybe I will make a pair of jeans one of these days and add that jacket to it. I am ready for Fall, not so much Winter that follows, but I sure do like Fall.
Thank you Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Good Morning Jeanne,
Happy Friday to you! The outfit is beautiful … Fall Fancy even ; )
I agree with Linda D, a cotton slip would be a very cute addition.
Have a lovely day!
Hugs
Ingrid
Hi Ingrid, and happy Friday to you too!
I think I better get started on that slip! Thank you for your sweet thoughts on my new dress. Blessings, Jeanne
I love her hat, Jeanne, and the flowers are the perfect touch!! Looking forward to seeing the whole outfit!!
I think adding the blue grosgrain under the bottom edge of the bodice lace might look nice too.
