Ten Ping’s “second” Debut dress is finished…

I can’t believe it took me all afternoon and evening to get Ten Ping’s dress set finished…but it did. When I look at this tiny little purple dress, that is no more than 5″ long, and the slip that has a waistband that would fit on my wrist, and the thigh highs that would slide over popsicle sticks, and felt shoes that could set on the end of 2 of my fingers, and her hat that could sit atop a golf ball, I wonder how did it take so long?

First let me just look at this sweet face one more time… If you missed that post, Ten Ping was repainted by Lana Dobbs a little while back and this is her first dress with her new “face colors!” If you want to see her “original look” you can see that post HERE. I think she looks BEAUTIFUL now! Her skin tone was changed from being too orangish to a pretty soft pink color.

Here are two before shots and then the new look…

So what took me so long today?

To finish her dress, I had to sew the lace onto the bottom and then hand hem it… then finish off the edges. Then press.

Three sets of snaps and 3 buttons were sewn on the back. I should have straightened out my buttons before I took this shot… they look crooked…

Her slip was made from a purple tulle and it became a little wild, so I had to serge it and make it a little shorter… I think it looks cute on her tiny little body…

A pair of teeny tiny thigh highs were made.. seriously they could easily slide onto my pointer finger, I think…

I couldn’t remember which of my pattern pieces I used for the shoes AND the hat…so it was trial and error for a little while as I figured it out…A tiny bow was made for her hat, with some beads on it as well…

I need to tighten up the straps on the shoes, so that will have to be redone…

Ten Ping wanted her bear to have a ribbon around her neck, and some beads, so I did that too…

So, that’s why it took me as long as it did… I hope you approve! I didn’t get it listed on Ebay, but I will as soon as I can… maybe Wednesday evening… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, gosh, Jeanne, that turned out sooooo cute!! Of course, purple is my favorite color, and I’m afraid my Ten Ping is soon going to think it’s hers, also!! LOL I’d better keep her busy so she doesn’t sneak over and use the computer while I’m occupied elsewhere in the house!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Thank you so much for your sweet comments on Ten Ping’s dress. I like it very much too and she looks fabulous in this purple color! She thinks she’s the bees knees!
Keep a watch on your girls…it’s pretty tempting! :o)
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a lovely little outfit! Everything about it is so sweet. Knowing how small it is just makes it all the more precious! Working in such miniature explains the time it takes to complete. Tiny things are so much harder to sew. This outfit certainly celebrates Ten Ping’s beautiful new coloring.
    Have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. HI Charlotte,
It is so sweet to see such a tiny little dress laying on my cutting table… It just makes me want to go “Awwww!” I think tiny things really do take more time… I had to fix her shoes today and I modified my shoe pattern just a bit and then threw away all the other patterns I had tried out, so I wouldn’t get them mixed up anymore! Good move, Jeanne!
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Oh my how absolutely darling, Jeanne! She certainly is all ready to go someplace with her little friend and to charm the socks off everyone! The little hat is the perfect touch for the outfit, and that darling slip is the cutest thing ever! I love the way it flips up around her! It would make a cute little tutu for a ballerina—–a LITTLE ballerina!
Oh gosh, the lace around the hem of the dress really makes the purple colors pop! Those tiny shoes and thigh highs are so cute and yes, when sewing things that small, that’s what takes time! You must have tiny little hands to be able to do these smaller outfits. My fingers are too big to comfortably do that! Well, I’m 5’9″, so not a tiny person at all!

This is a darling outfit that Ten Ping is NOT want to take off!!

    1. HI Linda,
Well, Ten Ping is certainly all dressed up to go someplace, but not very far from home! You’ll see! I thought I had goofed on the slip, but when I serged the edges, I loved it that way too! :o)
I do have tiny hands, and I think that does help somewhat when I have to stick my fingers in the shoes or in the armholes or the sleeves of the dress. I’m glad it’s finished and wonder who will be next… it’s already time to start thinking of that…

Yes, Ten Ping “thinks” this one is hers to keep… sorry child, maybe next time… :o)
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I sent your eclipse pictures to various people who, like me, weren’t in the direct line of the eclipse. Rebecca, a friend in California and the mother of my goddaughter Bella, wrote that Bella’s class had not been permitted to go out to view the eclipse but that your pictures had made up for it. Many thanks from both of us.

I love Ten Ping’s slip and stockings. They are both extra special to go with her beautiful new dress. Good luck getting Ten Ping out of this one.

    1. Thanks Marilyn,
I never dreamed my pictures would be good enough for others to use them and forward them to friends.. that made me happy! :o) I’m not the best photographer, but I can stand still and take the same shot over and over again, with the light changing… that seemed like a no-brainer to me… glad you enjoyed them.
Ten Ping has never looked sweeter and I’m so thrilled to have her in my collection!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a cutie Ten Ping is in the detailed outfit you made for her. I know why it took so long-because with carefulness at that scale, it does take awhile…even when the outfits are larger, there still are so many details. I especially like the little petticoat. Perhaps it shows a bouncy-ness underneath all of that quiet demeanor that Ten Ping shows us? She’s beautiful.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
Ten Ping’s slip is one of my favorite things about this outfit too! Who knows what wild antics Ten Ping does when I’m not in the sewing room! :o) All the girls want twirly skirts now!
She IS beautiful, and thanks for telling me! :o) :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I love Ten Ping’s shoes! Am I correct in assuming that the uppers are one piece, which are then glued to a sole? I have made doll shoes before, but there has always been a seam to sew down the center back. I like the idea of no seam better! Is this your own pattern, or did you purchase it somewhere? The whole outfit is adorable, but the shoes are my favorite!

    1. HI Angela,
Yes, Ten Ping’s shoes are made from one piece…my own pattern… but my seams are on the inside of the foot, instead of the back at the heel. I have them glued to several layers of stacked sticky felt to make the sole.
I have tweaked this shoe pattern a zillion times and even did a little more tweaking today… it’s been quite a challenge to get them to fit and now I’ve almost got them totally mastered… It’s been a long journey… but I’m happy and more confident in the fit for Ten Ping than I ever have.
Thanks so much for the compliments on my shoes… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. The little slip is adorable. Lucky Ten Ping. She is adorable in purple, and I heard through the dolly phone loop that she is quite envied by her peers. Can’t keep those dollies away from their phones. 🙂
    Have a tiny day.

    1. HI Joy,
I’m not sure which phone you heard it from, but MY girls can’t have phones until they turn 16! :o) They’d be on them all the time and I’d never get them to model for me if I let them have one…
I did have a tiny day…and it was good!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. What a sweet little dress and I love the purple shoes. When I was a teenager I used to have shoes in all kinds of colors -gray, mauve, light blue, dark green, lavender. Now as an adult I only buy practical, versatile colors. Probably why I like dolly shoes in wild colors. found the most adorable pair of kitty shoes on eBay the other night, they are white maryjanes with black kitty faces on the vamp and the kitty tail on the side. I seem to recall you have a substantial dolly shoe collection. LOL
Ten Ping is more versatile now as well. With her face up she can wear a great variety of colors. The dress is five inches long? Good grief, that would be very difficult to sew I would think.
So, what do you think of Nanea and her collection? I will read her book because with the historicals I always do. Her dog is cute, I wish one could buy the Remember Pearl Harbor pin separately and for some reason I think the Holoku dress would look good on Julie, but now that I’ve seen her whole collection and don’t have Julie, I think everything is a pass and poor Felicity received nothing! I don’t get bringing back the dolls without a collection, kids who never had her won’t be interested and us who remember her would expect to see something new.

    1. HI Laura,
I DO have a lot of dolly shoes…and whenever I show anyone my doll shoe drawer, they almost always gasp! I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a gasp of “Oh my goodness, what is she thinking?” But I’ll keep my shoes…and not worry about it. I used to have a lot more shoes when I was younger too… loved to have colors to match whatever I was wearing…
I’m like you, the practical side won out now!

I did see a nude Nanea on Ebay the other night… I haven’t had too much time to look at her things, but I’m with you, in what’s the point of bringing back a doll without anything new to celebrate her… It’s kind of like me getting a new doll and then never making her anything new to wear… Duh???
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. How adorable! Those little thigh highs are really sweet, and the shoes and hat are special too!

    1. Thanks for your sweet compliments on Ten Ping’s new dress set, Carolyn, It was a bit tedious to make but I love how it all turned out! She looks so pretty in this purple!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. I just found an article about the next solar eclipse. It’s in 2024, only 7 years away, which gives us time to plan, because the next one is going to be total in Carbondale, so all of your readers can start planning to come see you then. It will go from Texas through Maine, but Carbondale is now the Eclipse Queen City of the US.

    1. Marilyn, so glad you mentioned the eclipse coming through Carbondale again, as I forgot. Don’t you think Jeanne should be out there collecting all of the used 2017 glasses to resell at a profit, of course, in 2024? Maybe not. 🙂

      1. HI Joy,
I also heard on the news last night that they are collecting the used Eclipse glasses to send to countries who can’t afford them to protect their eyes from the eclipses they have in their countries…
        I guess there goes my profits… :o(
        Thanks anyway, Joy,
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Marilyn,
We are supposed to be at the “crossroads” of the next Solar Eclipse in 2024. Last night on the news I saw where they were discussing how to make the next eclipse even better than the one a few days ago. It was reported that we had about 50,000 visitors to Carbondale, but there were about 200,000 visitors in the surrounding areas. I think the townspeople thought EVERYONE was coming to Carbondale, but they chose to go to the smaller towns around us.
Anyone who wants to come see me… CAN! :o)
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Seriously Jeanne..between the new facial coloring and that darling dress Ten Ping has a whole new personality. She’s just adorable and has such a sweet way about her. The purple probably wouldn’t have been as pretty with her original coloring but looks awesome on her now. You are getting really good at the shoes aren’t you ! Super cute. Good luck with the listing?

    1. Thank you Kathie,
I appreciate your very kind words about Ten Ping and her new dress. She is such a little sweetheart … I do love her more than ever now! It’s amazing how a little rosy cheek color can change her looks.
Her shoes are actually fun to make and if I keep working at them, I should get much faster…it’s all in the pattern…I tweaked it a little bit more today…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
