A few days ago Linda, one of my readers, sent me some of the sweetest pictures of her girls dressed up for school. Linda painstakingly set up the cutest props and had her girls posed in the most darling ways. It seems like Summer shouldn’t be over yet, but it’s dwindling down fast. It’s that time of year again and things are pretty busy everywhere… Walmart, Kroger, driving in town and at the mall. Everyone is getting ready for school and each of those places has something to offer.
I hope Linda’s pictures bring back memories of the start of a new school year for you. If you ask most kids around here, they are all ready to go back and the MOM’S are really glad! I searched and searched for a letter Rebecca wrote on the first day we started home schooling. If I find it I may just have to share it…
Molly is definitely in “Teacher Mode,” don’t you think? Her adorable dress was made by Jonilynn, of Kindred Threads Etsy shop.
Ivy and Betsy look pretty sweet in their outfits too…
Linda was pretty excited to buy this smocked dress for Betsy! Isn’t it darling?
Well, I finished all the painting on the walls and just have some minor painting to do. I pushed my blue cabinet back, and dusted everything in it, I moved my furniture back in place and things are starting to look pretty nice in here! Thanks for being patient with me while all this was going on. The floors aren’t down yet, so we still have that hurdle to get over, but for now, I’m a pretty happy camper!
See you tomorrow…
P.S. If you like free patterns, you should check out the link at Pixie Faire… They have a free pattern download every Friday if you want it…
I would give you the link, but it’s not early enough Friday morning to post it.. just google Pixie Faire and you’ll find it…
Blessings, Jeanne
Linda’s girls look fabulous, all dressed up for school!! I recognize the lunch buckets and Molly’s desk in the first, but where did you get the chalk board and maps, Linda? They are perfect! And the pointer?!
I also seem to recognize Molly’s school books, but the pencil box isn’t ringing a bell. Was that possibly Kit’s?
I’m glad you were able to get your painting about done, Jeanne; now to get your house back in some kind of order, at least temporarily. When is the flooring going to be installed Once you’re done with that, everything else will fall into place.
Hi Charlotte,
I’ll just be helpful and tell you the school box is Kit’s. If you don’t have it, you need it. I have and love Felicity’s, Addy’s and Samantha’s PC school supplies, but Kit’s first release one is amazing. The pencils are real,, the crayons are real wax and it has a real gum eraser.
The pencil box itself is super cute and the Geography book is also. They are my favorite of the AG era school supplies, so much so that I needed two set of them..
Thank you Laura!!
Oh, Laura, thank you for letting Charlotte know that yes, that is Kit’s pencil box. It is the original one with the real pencils, crayons, and erasers. I just love it!
Thank you, Laura; I wondered if the pencil box might be Kit’s. Since I’ve never gotten her or her things, I wasn’t quite sure. (I do have all of Molly’s school things, though!)
I’ll have to see if I can find one on ebay or something, I guess! I’ll also take a look at the AG store and see if there’s anything comparable.
Funny thing, even though I wasn’t born until 1946, I seem to remember pencil cases rather like that, and I know I had a school bag similar to Molly’s!! Mine was red plaid, I think!
Hi Charlotte,
I just LOVE looking at all the little goodies in Linda’s set ups. There’s always something you missed the first time you looked at it!
All I know is with the walls all painted, the flooring is just that much closer!
Thanks Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Linda’s girls are darling! And the accessories are great! They do remind me of school when I was young.
Congratulations on completing the walls!
Hope you have a good day.
Take care.
Thanks Charlotte,
Both of my Charlotte’s with back to back comments! I’m glad you both enjoyed seeing Linda’s dolls set up for school. It does bring back a flood of memories, doesn’t it! They are so cute!!!
Thank you, Charlotte,
Blessings, Jeanne
Goodness sakes Jeanne, my pictures again! I am happy to share, and really do love setting up these little scenes for your enjoyment!
Charlotte, the map, chalkboard and pointer are part of Maryellen’s School supplies, that I recently bought on sale from AG. I wasn’t too hot on the regular price, and just waited for a sale, and then it came, so I got it. Maybe it is still on sale, since I got it a few weeks ago. It includes the stand to put either the chalkboard or map on, but I wanted both there in the classroom, so put the chalkboard on an easel stand I had. The set also includes flip cards, but they are not pictured. I wish I could get my flash to stop flashing on the picture in the background, but, oh well. Jeanne takes MUCH better pictures!
Thank both of you for the compliments!
Jeanne, now we want to see some pictures of your room! Isn’t it nice to look at it from a different place in the room, to see it all at once? I remember painting all of our trim white, and as I went along, it didn’t seem like I was doing much, but standing back and taking it all in at once really did make a big difference!
Thanks Linda,
I’m SO glad you shared your pictures with me…so I could share them with everyone else. Everyone just loves them!!!
Oh, you’ll see some pictures…my hubby just hung up the curtain rod that I’ve had for probably 5 or 6 years! I’ve got some fabric draped over it, just to get some ideas…
Just with the rod up, it feels like an entirely different room!
Thanks Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Linda’s pictures are wonderful and her scenes are even more wonderful. Thanks, Linda, for sharing, and thanks, Jeanne, for letting us all see them.
I checked out Kindred Threads on Etsy and got handwoven things and yarns and a different owner. I must be doing something wrong. Linda, can you give us a link?
Like Linda, I really want to see pictures of the room now. I can’t believe how much you have managed in so little time. I also want more baby pictures, and I hope you find Rebecca’s note. You also have to shop quickly before the eclipse tourists decimate the grocery store. What a weekend you are in for. No rest at all for you. How do you feel? You were sick and then hit the ground running fast instead of making a nice moderately paced recovery.
The new Pixie Faire free pattern is very cute — besides, how can you lose with a free pattern, a look at some other cute patterns, and a chance to win an American Girl doll? There are a couple of really nice skirt patterns for modern girls. Thanks for the reminder, Jeanne. And have a very good day.
Hi Marilyn,
Her’s Jonilynn’s etsy shop. I thought I’d just share with you in case Linda didn’t see your question. If you’re on PT she shares her latest creations as she finishes them.

Hi Marilyn,
I just had to share Linda’s school pictures since the schools around here have started this week. It put me in a Back to School mood!
I see Laura gave the link…thanks Laura.
My mom called and said she needed some groceries and to go to the bank. They were setting up gobs and gobs of Porta potties in the downtown area. I guess a couple wouldn’t do for 50,000 extra people. I bet the Porta potty people were thrilled to get that order!
I’m working on the rooms still…but I’m loving it!!! You will get pictures…I’ll probably have to restrain myself from taking too many!
Thanks Marilyn,
Blessings, Jeanne
Fond memories indeed, of starting the school year in days gone past…thank you Linda (and Jeanne) for these sweet photos of your dolls ready to sit in those seats and learn many new things.
Oh, I’m so glad for you Jeanne, that you’ve got the walls painted. You are indeed a powerhouse of energy. So glad you’re feeling better.
Blessings.
Hi Becky,
If I hadn’t gotten the flu, I may have been done by now, but that’s okay… I felt the best today of any day so far, so I think it is all out of my system.
I’m glad you enjoyed Linda’s pictures too. I loved the simpler times of school, instead of the way it is now… it’s too bad the 40’s and 50’s didn’t stay around forever…
Thanks Becky,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, so glad the painting is pretty much done. With your things back in place, it’s probably a good feeling. Happy for you ! Pretty soon you’ll have the floors done. Yippee!
Linda, if you’re girls aren’t just too cute! What a darling scene. Molly looks cute in her school dress as well as leading the girls at the head of the class. I think that’s what’s fun about our dolls- creating scenes.
Those were exciting days at the start of each school year – to this day I have always loved the smell of the freshly cleaned school floors…the printer’s ink on papers, and pencil and crayon scents throughout the school building. That’s what Linda’s school scene portrays to me.
Hi Paula,
Things are getting back in order…at least until it’s flooring time! It IS a good feeling!
When I see Linda’s scenes set up, it makes me wish I had more room in my sewing room to pull out my props and leave them out…of course my girls would all be nudies…so that might not work.
I loved your memories of the new school year!!
Thanks so much, Paula,
Blessings, Jeanne
Darling photos. Thats the way my mother dressed me for school. I always had matching bloomers underneath so i could play on the monkey bars and swings at recess:)
Hi Shara,
I remember wearing shorts under our dresses so we could play on the monkey bars…nowadays, probably very few little girls wear dresses…just the shorts…:o (
Thanks Shara,
Blessings, Jeanne
Love Linda’s school scene. All the right stuff just makes it perfect. I remember the pointer! Used to be so much fun to have a turn playing teacher.
Glad the painting is becoming a distant memory. At least for now.
On to all the eclipse rah rah sis boom bah! Hoping the fog is out Monday morning.
Hi Joy,
Do you school scenes all set up for your 10er’s?
It really was fun to see Linda’s girls…and yes, I remember the pointer…
The paint smell is fading too…I’m glad!
Oh yes, Eclipse mania has hit..it will probably be insane in town tomorrow. I took my mom to the bank and to get groceries. I told her to make sure she got everything she thought she might need because I didn’t plan on getting out in it by myself until Tuesday!
The out of town drivers is what’s so bad. Rebecca almost got hit 3 times today. Some guy was in front of me driving along…then he stopped and put his car in reverse…I had to move over to the side to go around him!!!
Yep, it’s time to stay home!
Thanks Joy,
Blessings, Jeanne
Linda, your girls look adorable. Molly’s dress is so cute. I love Jonilynn’s creations when she shows them on PT. Love #21’s red and white saddles and Betsy’s smocked dress is darling. Always enjoy when you share your scenes. 🙂
I just love smocking on little girl’s dresses.. How cute that by having Molly’s, Kit’s and Julie’s lunchboxes you have enough for everyone. and Kit’s school supplies are pretty timeless. I use the crayons and nib pen for Samantha along with her own school supplies because crayons came out in 1903. I was complete enamored with those little real wax crayons, and real pencils. I ended up needing two of those sets.
Yes, Jeanne, we are all anxious to see pictures of your newly decorated room I’m sure you’re happy to be getting things back in order.
Pixie Faire patterns are wonderful. I downloaed and printed the Piccadilly Peacoat jacket one they had a week or two ago and I’ve collected a few more, don’t know when I’ll have time to make them though.
I thought I’d share for anyone interested. I love when I can get free things or items I can make inexpensively to add to my doll scenes.
Check out American Girl Ideas for free printables and easy thing you can make. Rudy makes her own version of many AG items as well as a host of other things and they are free to use.
Oh, one more thing. If anyone would like doll sized colored pencils that really draw, lovvbugg on ebay had a sweet set a year or so ago when I bought mine along with a 13 star flag for Felicity. They are very nice.
These are the ones, but from a different seller and the very last one.

Hi Laura,
It sure is fun when someone shares their doll set ups and we can enjoy them. It must be extra fun for someone who recognizes all the little props and who they were made for and what came with the set. I admit, I’m not familiar with them. Cindy sent me about a dozen of the historical catalogs years ago and I loved looking at all the accessories in each set, but finally sold rhe catalogs a few years ago. It’s probably the one thing I really wish I had kept. They were great reference books.
Thanks Laura…gotta get some dinner made.
Blessings, Jeanne
