Thank you, thank you, thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes. I certainly didn’t plan on not answering the comments today, of all days, but we worked on our floor most of the day and finally called it quits about 8:30. I wanted to answer you, but will have to do it another time… You all said the sweetest things and I’m so glad you liked my birthday dresses that I showcased…
A wonderful thing happened too… I got up and put some chicken in the crock pot and was going to make chicken fajitas for dinner. Well, a friend from church came over at 6:00 with Bolgogi… a Korean dish, so we had it instead. Now I have my dinner all ready for Wednesday night…That worked out perfectly!
It really doesn’t look very impressive, but we worked so hard to get a ridge out of the middle of the living room floor and 2 different vents sealed up. George was “Sander Man” and I was “Putty Girl.” Plus, I was “Vacuum Girl,” “Hand Me Screws Girl,” “Hold the Flashlight Girl,” and “Pick Up Nails Girl.” It was dirty and dusty work but we have the floor pretty well prepped the best we can….except for the one register area that he moved by the wall. It still has to be leveled out somewhat. Our floors were awful and the people who put down the plywood…”had no business with a hammer and nails!”
Here are a few pictures of the work we did…
…another register to be closed off…
… planing and sanding and planing and sanding…
…oh, and here’s some work from “Putty Girl!”
While I still can’t give you too many hints on the hats…here are a few more pictures. I worked like crazy in the living room today, but every time my hubby stepped outside to go to the garage for something, I dashed into my sewing room to add a few more flowers to the hats. Here they are, all done…and with some matching fabrics… Maybe I can get this “secret” finished in the next day or two…
Sorry, my pictures aren’t the greatest.. it was 11:00 at night when I took them.
Well, I hope you enjoyed looking at my hats!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Belated happy birthday, Jeanne!! Sorry I didn’t get to post last night, but I was having some trouble with wifi, and everything was a battle!
I love seeing all your pretty hats and coordinating fabrics. You’ve got some lovely combinations there!
Happy day after, Jeanne! I see real progress on the floors! I think you will feel very proud of yourselves when the final plank gets put down. You and George have both invested your time and talents in this new floor, and that is what is going to make a difference for you in appreciating it.
Oh, the hats! Now there are 5 of them? You know what I was thinking? Since you have almost one for every day, you could use the little rhyme, “Monday’s child is fair of face”, and on and on for each day of the week. That could be your inspiration for these sweet outfits!
By the way, what is in Bolgogi? You are really lucky to have a husband who eats most everything you serve him! Mine is strictly a meat and potatoes guy, not adventurous at all when it comes to food. No Chinese, no Japanese, no Mexican, no Italian for him! Funny thing, I never noticed that before we got married!
The floors are looking great! Prep work always seems long and without reward but it is so important.
Your hats are so pretty!! I wish you made full-sized ones for us.
Hope you have a good day.
Take care.
In case Jeanne doesn’t get to today’s Comments, bulkogi is Korean barbecue, served by itself or with rice and vegetables, delicious any way you can get it. My sympathies on the “No Foreign Food” rule, Linda, even Italian?
The floors will be wonderful. You two are certainly earning it with a very thorough job well done.
Love the little hats. These are ones you made, right? Can’t wait to see the dresses that go with them. Endless creativity.
Not even Italian, Susette! Although I will say he does eat pizza, very plain, and not much on it except cheese and pepperoni! I think he has had hamburgers and French fries in just about every restaurant we have gone to! Going out to eat is NOT fun!
Marvelous work on both the floor and the hats. My, we are in for great wonders from yours and George’s hands with all the work that you two do. The hats are gorgeous and the fabric-luscious! Can’t wait to see the end results of all of your labors. And, what a splendid gift in the Korean food on your birthday evening..and the added blessing of food ready for tonight!
Blessings.
You are one busy lady! I wish I had some of your energy. Can’t wait to see what your floor will look like when it’s all finished. I know how much work you and your dear hubby are doing. I also can’t wait to see what your next creations will be. Those hats are adorable! 😀
Magic! And then there were five! That green hat with the white background rosebud print is tugging at me. Love it. And the other two companion pieces too. It is going to be so much fun seeing the dresses progress.
And wow, that plywood is going to be history soon. Nice work! So do the heat vents that you are closing off have to be reworked in the basement too? I noticed at my parents old home that a vent had something that fit inside it to stop the heat in a utility room, but the vent is still there. I think that works if you don’t want the vent to disappear. Not sure who did that though. Will all the changes require resetting the furnace zones? I know there are several vents that will need to be moved at that house to accommodate furniture, so just curious. And are you using a long level or long straight two by four to figure where the floor dips/rises? Didn’t see in the photos. I used those when laying bricks for the patio, but you may just have those ridges to deal with.
How soon in the future is the actual flooring due to arrive? So excited to see it go down. Have you decided on a color/style/brand? Haven’t looked yet but need to.
Glad you had a productive birthday and dinner all ready for tonight.
Hi again everyone,
I woke up this morning and my hubby had already started without me…well, moving all the furniture out of the way, that is. It’s in my sewing room, in the kitchen, down the hallway and back in the sitting room! It’s really a mess around here now, but give us a little time and things will be BEAUTIFUL! I can hardly believe it.
Joy, we ALREADY have the flooring AND some of you have already guessed…WE are going to do it ourselves… it’s not laminate, or hardwood, or peel and stick, or glue down, or click and lock, but something totally different. It’s PERFECT for IMPERFECT FLOORS! I can’t wait to share it with you. The guy gave us a 10 % discount because I told him I’d do a review on my blog…
Gotta go…the Master is calling me…
Blessings, Jeanne
Ya got me there! Something self leveling maybe? We could use that here for sure. Excited to see it.
Guess you’ll have to use your gazebo to entertain for awhile.:)
Perhaps it will be cork tiles? I was just looking at some by Globus Cork that come in planks and other shapes. But, perhaps you are going to paint after all? Can you tell I can’t wait to find out?
10% off because you’ll review the floor here! And you will, and we’ll ask questions. There are a lot of uneven floors in the world, and having you find a solution will help other people.
What better way to spend your birthday than working with George? What a match that was, and who can tell in advance? You are a wonderful team.
And five hats — I expected three. But it sounds like no sewing today, with the sewing room already full. That’s ok, it’s time for the floor to come first. This is when all that preparation pays off. Tomorrow is going to be lovely on the blog. Tomorrow is probably when your muscles are going to be very tired, but it’s worth it. I hope everything is going very smoothly.
I can sympathize with the hard work of putting down new flooring! I have been the ‘helper’ many times. lol The good thng is that you will enjoy it for years to come and you can tell everyone ‘you did it yourselves’. Love the hats and the fabric you will be using is luscious. I am wondering where you find the pretty roses and flowers you use. I am just getting started with making hats – what a job. Sure it will get easier to more I make.
Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday and many more to come. Blessings
Oh happy, happy Birthday! A new floor and redecorated living room are good things. As Miss Putty you are a great helper. I wish you a normal year full of wonderful days.
You probably already have your flooring but in case you don’t… remember the darker the floor the more the dust shows…ask me how I know ?
Your fabric stash is amazing…every color combination known to man! This will be a very interesting week!
